Beautiful browns. I guess this is a rail fence variation, but also it’s gonna be an optical illusion quilt if it works 🎉
Seriously though, 28 strip units comprised of 3 2.5”xWoF takes a lot of tedious stitching. At least I can watch Law and Order at the same time for enrichment lol

Ralph Lauren
Fall/Winter 1982-1983
NOSTALGIA 1. A wistful or sentimental yearning for a return to or the return of some real or romanticized period of the past: For his autumn/winter 1982–83 collection, Ralph Lauren referenced American folk art and crafts. Nineteenth-century needlework samplers, which often featured the letters of the alphabet and the motif of the home, inspired the design of this hand-knit sweater. Lauren’s use of antique patchwork quilts to construct the accompanying skirt reflects his appreciation for handwork. Speaking to a journalist in 1982 Lauren said, "Folk art, for me, represents the integrity that is America."

Art Weekend - Crazy Quilt with Animals by Florence Elizabeth Marvin
Although described as a quilt, 'crazy quilts' are actually not quilted but are instead completed in sections and joined together or sewn onto a backing. These elaborate designs were made as showpieces and not for use, often inclusing a variety of expensive fabrics or trims. They would be displayed on beds on special occasions or be draped over a setee in the parlor. This piece designed and created by Florence Elizabeth Marvin is now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Lap quilt for my dad, who hunts.
I free motion quilted it with a minky back. Swirls that look like snow gusts around the elk and some fun curves around the ribbon pole piecing. Something reminiscent of either mountains or sunshine in the border.
I do love Northcott panels. They’re so pretty.

If I were given each day
as a piece of fabric:
the hue that permeated the sky,
the dusk off an apple, the fold of a hand,
you know, the stuff you gather.
If I had it as a square of cloth,
I could make a covering.
Nothing falls away,
we carry it all with us.
What funny rumply creatures we become.
I sit in the sunlight on the couch,
long winter afternoon slanting in on me.
I’m still except for my hands.
All the pieces are there
in my lap, what a life,
what a weight.
I keep sewing the stitches
like words that hold the world together.
Give me another piece.
I know where it goes-
pain and hope sewn side by side
make a comfort.
~ Mary Logue
