That was just how things worked. "Somewhere in the woods, I bet," she turned to look in that direction, "if we were on a lake, I'd say follow whatever creek or stream feeds it, but ponds don't typically have those… so we might not have any luck there." Now she wanted to make it her goal to go home and follow Black Creek to see how many waterfalls she could find. "I'd want to stay in Maine. I like my seasons, my snow storms, getting to wear my warm winter coats. What about you?"

"Yup, we're about as tropical as the mountains of Switzerland." Maybe that was a bit of a stretch... but it wasn't really untrue! He grinned. "Imagine if we had tropical weather, we'd be in a very different situation here," he chuckled. "Although, I'm sure somewhere around here or wherever... there might actually be a waterfall?" Bryan smiled at Lena again. "I promise I won't make any mating calls to any bugs or creepy frogs while we're here. Would you prefer to live somewhere more tropical or do you like our weather around here in our area?" he asked curiously. "I'm sure there are a lot more frogs and lizards and bugs in the latter category."

Cage did his best to hide a smile as Bryan talked about the bingo ladies, knowing exactly what sort of people he was referring to -- he had dealt with them a lot, too. "I used to go with my dad to church now and then, and the gossip you would hear in the kitchen of that church, or down in the basement when they had events… I swear," older people knew how to talk. They didn't necessarily know what they were talking about, but they were going to talk none the less. "I do make a lot of smoothies this time of year -- a lot of parfaits, too. Cordelia does the baking, but I don't mind trying my hand at muffins now and then, either, you know? But you should definitely try some blueberry ice cream. Or milkshakes, for that matter."

“Telephone,” Bryan grinned. “I’ll admit it. I was the kid who usually changed the message into something completely different…” he laughed with a shake of his head. “Yeah, I was such a menace back then,” he snickered. “You hear a bit of this and that and it goes around and then it is something completely different. Oh, even better when it’s the bingo ladies who summon you because they made cookies and want to tell you a ‘secret’ but it’s something you already know, but sort of with a twist?” That always happened, he figured. “Blueberries just hit differently here!” He nodded. “I’ve always loved blueberries, but they taste so much better and they’re always peak fresh and delicious. Ready to toss into any dessert. Oh, and smoothies too. That’s also a good one. I haven’t tried ice cream though. Might give that a go for summer.”

5 favorite ships katz and dogs - i feel like not enough people recognize how much Will clearly trusts Bev (he calls her when he finds Georgia, he asks her to look into Hannibal while he's in prison). she's the only person who seems to clock that he's Not Okay in s1 and who also tries to reach out to him on "neutral" territory (giving him shooting advice, engaging in morbid jokes, telling him to talk to her if things get to be too much). she doesn't infantilize him (Jack, Alana) or treat him as a curio (Hannibal). he's not a means to an end for her, he's a person. meanwhile Will doesn't treat her with the same rudeness he gives Zeller; again, he trusts her insights and reaches back to her. also can we all notice that he doesn't do the mirroring thing with her?? i feel like it's big when Will doesn't default to either of his masking personas (rude, aloof professor or empath who reflects you back to yourself).

will/molly - in part because i have huge affection for red dragon even as i acknowledge all the ways it's Bad. but i dislike when fandom acts like Will's entire marriage to Molly was a lie. or like Molly is either Too Badass for Will or Too Soft for him. she trusted him enough to make him part of her life, they stayed together for years, they adopted more dogs together. she speaks his language! meanwhile i think it's a rather...unfair assessment of Will to act like he's only using Molly as this clutch for normalcy. he KNOWS he's never going to be "normal," he could have closed himself off utterly after the entire Verger arc. but he found someone he could trust in Molly, which tells us a lot about her even if the show doesn't really explore her as a character. (i think their conversations in the book and the ways that Will "finds" pieces of her in the mundane aspects of his work are evidence of a loving relationship.)

abigail hobbs/freddie lounds - i haven't found, like, a fic that explores what i'd want out of this, but the gist is that Abigail gets treated as a child in a lot of ways, which i think is unfair to her. yes, she is barely a legal adult. yes, she is naive and sheltered. but also she has keen survival instincts and she recognizes the meta-level operations of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal, i.e. it's about the story that you're telling. Abigail as a ghost in the machine, Freddie as the "vessel" that gives her coherence and meaning both in relation to her dad and separate from Hannibal. they're using each other! it's toxic! but also Freddie is the only person who really treats Abigail as an adult. (plus you KNOW Abigail has some like, repressed queer feelings. she ate and honored ALL those girls she helped murder.)

will/hannibal - like. it's the arc of the show Fuller created. i have eyes.

...are there five ships i like in Hannibal? huh. i don't actually LIKE alana/margot in the Fullerverse, because it erases the butch masc aspect of book!Margot, which i think is so, so important in talking about Margot's queerness AND her abuse (she turns to bodybuilding as a means of defense, she ID's as butch and it's an intentional refusal of the girl her parents wanted her to be, as well as the "girl" she was). no one has sold me on bev/freddie yet, because Bev obviously hates Freddie and so much wlw content in the fandom tends to be "gentle soft femmes." idk. alana/will has potential but only if it's ALSO fucked up, because Will relies on Alana as a defense and Alana only ever sees Will as fundamentally broken.

things you look for in fics - hannigram it's been a second since i obsessively combed through the hannibal ao3 tag for fics. i can't do "soft" murder husbands content. i dislike fics where Hannibal gives Will positive language to define himself, because i think it's fundamentally ooc. Hannibal wants Will to be what Hannibal wants, which also happens to be a part of himself that Will actively represses (as opposed to accepting/working through/etc). their relationship is obsessive, it's manipulative, it has a body count.

unrelated to that but important to me: i have a low tolerance for uninterrogated misogyny in fics. both the Harris and the Fuller texts are full of sexist approaches to women, and it sometimes feels like the fandom (even years later, at a remove from when the show was premiering) dials that up to eleven without a second thought. so i'm hyper-critical of fics that position the women characters in the virgin/madonna/whore triad.

give me a character - beverly katz how i feel about this character: defensive, lmao. she's so interesting! the only woman in team sassy science AND she's a woman of color. non-whiteness is, uh, a super fraught position in the fullerverse, esp. hannibal. the fandom treated her like shit, Fuller arguably treated her like shit, justice for Bev Katz.

all the people i ship romantically with this character: will/bev has a soft spot in my heart. will/molly/bev is one more people should think about. bev/margot could've been so so good. bev/miriam??

my non-romantic otp for this character: i've seen team sassy science posed as a triad, but truly i do not see Bev having a romantic thing for either Zeller or Pierce, though i think she's fond of them as coworkers and friends.

my unpopular opinion about this character: she's the most nuanced female character, and her murder was both unnecessary on a narrative level and gross as a treatment of a nonwhite woman's body.

one thing i wish would have happened in canon: that she didn't get murdered as a deus ex machina! Bev is one of the main characters and she gets killed off-screen and then turned into a plot device as though she never mattered. when i die, i will find bryan fuller and haunt his ass!

Ryder couldn't help his laugh when Bryan talked about the pizza fiasco, letting his head fall to a thoughtful tilt. "I guess you could have tried to make them a pizza with ingredients that you have there in the restuarant, but it was… not going to turn into the kind of pizza that they wanted." Maybe a chicken and broccoli pizza, but if someone was expecting something with pizza sauce and cheese and popped open that box, he could only imagine the kind of disappointment that they were going to find. Bryan loved a good drink. That's why stopping over at Mawk Tales was unusual, but he wanted to expand his palate a bit, especially since he was planning on opening his own food truck. He was in the process of making those plans, and working through all the fine details. He was sipping on his peach-raspberry-guava-lemonade spritzer when he heard Ryder speak up. He grinned and looked over at his friend. "Well, we had someone calling the restaurant trying to order a pizza. I explained ever so politely that we don't serve pizza, but they were adamant about it. So that was a fun conversation."

when I started shipping it if I did

I started shipping them in the thirty-ninth episode where Mariam perfectly explains his character. I just love the fact of how much she understood him, giving the potential to their relationship! I think that was the time I really started shipping them. I was actually shipping Max and Mariam a bit, but for no real reason, I started shipping Ozuma with her. It just came to me. Ozuma is a character whom I can't ship with any girl except Mariam.

my thoughts

Okay, I feel that they are a really good couple regardless of Mariam being taller. I don't care about that because heights don't matter when it comes to love. I guess Mariam does have something for him because she argues the least with Ozuma. She listens to his orders to the point (except for the one time when she battles Max). I feel they always work together in missions. Their bond is not too fluffy or lovey-dovey, but rather very respectable and courteous. The 39th episode of V-force made me like them as I already said. Mariam understood that Ozuma succumbed to darkness. She understood his intentions. She knows Ozuma better than her teammates did. This episode particularly teased their relationship a bit in my opinion. It linked both of them together. It made Mariam seem like Ozuma's inner voice and that fact makes me happy about them.

What makes me happy about them

The fact is that they are teammates and are always together on missions with Joseph and Dunga. I can feel that they both are the sanest members of the group which gives them the potential to have a lot of common grounds. I love Mariam was shown to care for Ozuma and has a very precise understanding of his nature and his goals. I just love the 39th episode of V-force for so many reasons!!

What makes me sad about them

The less popularity, fanfictions (not much but still telling) and the fanart around. I wish they got some more love from the fanbase. I guess fans just like to ignore their potential. Well, it's their interest but it's just me who finds them really interesting. I also wish they had some scenes together all alone. I would have loved that, but the fact it didn't happen makes me feel sad.

things are done in fanfic that annoys me

Uhh, nothing particularly annoys me for what they have been done because I haven't read fics in a while but I just wish Ozuma was not too bad as a guy with Mariam in case he is (?). But I might dislike it if Ozuma is a bad guy in Max/Mariam fanfictions. He is just a bit Kuudere, otherwise, he is a good boi.

things I look for in fanfic

I want more fanfictions where Ozuma and Mariam are married. I want to see fics where Ozuma and Mariam take missions alone without anybody in their group. I want to see more of Ozuma's inner monologues and his opinions on Mariam as a person. I want to see some sexual tension in their relationship hehe <<33333.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

As for Mariam, I might tell Max but I am okay with her ending up with someone like Johnny, Bryan, Dunga, or Brooklyn. Even Oliver and Enrique might work. For Ozuma.... maybe, Mariah or Emily can be a good choice for him. If you don't mind Yaoi, I can see him with Kane or Joseph, and maybe Oliver. But I would prefer him ending up with someone who hasn't appeared yet, just a random woman or staying single.

How I feel about this character

A pretty well-written and nuanced character, just like the typical shounen heroes who are drawn to darkness. Right from his looks to the characters, I like everything in him. He is a character I love so much besides Ozuma. He is drastically underrated and under-credited for the role he displayed. I like how wise, smart and calm he is except for the battle tower incident. He deserves better in all honesty.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

SALIMA! Yes, Salima is probably the only person I whole-heartedly ship him with, but I am also okay pairing him with Mariah (because both are my second favorite male and females in Beyblade lol). Tbh, I like Kane/Salima more but Kane/Mariah is a capable pairing as well. I don't mind a Kane and Ozuma BL too lol.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Jim. They both are really good bros and yes I ficking like their duo! People like Goki, Ray, Tyson, and Kai are pretty good as well.

My unpopular opinion about this character

He is the smartest-looking character in the series. Give a break for Tala, Kai, Tyson, Kai, and a few other characters, Kane looks better in an obvious sense. He needs to be acknowledged in looks too lol. Also yes, extremely underrated. Bless my boy, please!

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon

I'd love to see him being a physician/doctor And of course, marry Salima. And please, he needs a bit-beast and be on par with some of the good-tier characters! He is ultimately nerfed after the battle tower incident. I'd want to see him get stronger
