Something that's been interesting me a long time is the sword Solslevni? Sosevly?

So the sword was originally a human, with the ability to fuse a body and ability. Which means it's incredibly valuable in the hands of Aya, who has iterated that she is a normal girl without abilities, with nothing but her heart ("which is why I need help from the people of that world") and her determination to never turn away from justice. It gives her a level playing field.

(It could also potentially give her an ability. Personally, I like the idea of a normal girl helping to save the world, without having to develop superhero abilities. Aya has trained every day, has devoted herself to justice, is determined to be brave and never cowardly, and I think that should count as much as any ability.)

Bram also references the Holy Crest, meaning a sigil burned onto the hand of someone, who can then wield the sword. This is the second time he's been impaled on it. We aren't given many details on the first occasion, weirdly don't even see the sword, just know that he lost his fiefdom. He obviously cares about them enough that as a literal muppet he's begging for them to have ownership of their land.

But remember that flashback? 'Because I'm not interested in the World'? With a girl who looked exactly like Aya?

There are theories of reincarnation with that, of Aya being the soul of Bram's wife/daughter, but I don't think reincarnation fits super well? Bungou Stray Dogs treats death seriously. When someone dies they don't come back in anything other than a hallucination, and we don't get references to heaven or hell, just angels and demons. Even Fyodor, who is the most vocally religious speaks more about a god blessing his endeavours and respecting his efforts, not about his final reward or anything. Fukuchi recited Buddhist doctrines and philosophy, but they're more introspective than religious, on his own character and perception of flaws and sin.

(This is to my understanding, I'd love to hear anyone else's perspective on the matter as I am not Buddhist.)

What if Aya was a past wielder of the sword? Someone dear to Bram, who took out the sword after the owner before her died, or some other circumstances. Someone he cared about, and someone who saved him. Someone who utilised the sword to give herself the ability to send her soul further forward in time, to whenever Bram may need her.

Imagine Aya, with no memories or knowledge, but the vindication to protect people. Imagine her forever knowing that there is someone she has to defend. Imagine her with a dead mother and sister, but the knowledge that she has to train, has to be brave, has to fight.

Fukuchi may not be the only the Holy Crest, because years ago, someone loved Bram so dearly that she made sure there was a chance that should he ever be hurt again, she would be able to help him.

And imagine what Aya could do when she uses the Holy Crest to use the sword. Could she tear away Fukuchi's ability? Shred Brams vampirism? Give herself the power to save the world? Take away the power of the book?

Who knows? Every child wants to change the World, let's see what happens to a child who can.

BSD fandom bear with me as i do some math, cause I've been trying to figure out just how far this season is going to get in adapting the manga, and today's episode threw my calculations out the window!

This is a chart I've been using to keep track of the episodes of S5 so far:

The average number of manga pages adapted per episode is 104,7.

The largest amount of pages adapted in an episode is 129 (episode 3).

The smallest amount of pages adapted in an episode is 81 (episode 7).

If the average remains 104-ish, this season should surpass current manga chapters by a couple of months and end around chapter 112, assuming that future chapters' lenght stays the same.

BUT, that's a lot of assumptions, and the average of pages as been going down in the last few chapters... So I have decided to calculate some possibilities!

The worst (realistic) case scenario is: Ep 8: ch 100-102 (87 pages) Ep 9: ch 103-105 (87 pages) Ep 10: 106-part of 108 (80/90 pages) Ep 11: part of 108-110 (80/90 pages)

The best (realistic) case scenario is: Ep 8: ch 100-103 (120 pages) Ep 9: ch 104-107 (123 pages) Ep 10: 108-110 (100/110 pages) Ep 11: ?????? at least 3 other chapters, taking us to chapter 113 (released next december if they don't do any more half-chapters)

Now, I imagine that the truth will be somewhere between these 2 scenarios... But it is reassuring that - unless they decide to REALLY stretch the upcoming episodes - it doesn't look like Season 5 risks finishing with a cliffanger after chapter 109!

BSD OC INSERT: Madame Pearl #1

Prologue

The city glowed brightly in the darkness of the night sky, and near the center of their core, disgust of the crimes and destruction below made their stomach churn.

They stood alone on the edge of the large building, hidden in plain sight, cloaked and their cyan eyes watching from underneath the black clothing, arms closer, awaiting their orders.

They sigh.

They were beginning to grow restless.

They were here on an important mission, and these kind of jobs sent her a little over the edge.

When it came to children, she couldn't help but growing more and more tense.

The man who owned the building, whoever he was, (they couldn't remember, they never bothered too) had been claimed to have been stealing and trafficking children.

It made their blood boil.

Who could do something like that to poor little children, they always asked, but they never got an answer, neither out of the people who did such horrible things, or life.

So they were f*cked.

Suddenly, the earpiece became static, before a voice echoed through their mind, and a grin bloomed across their lips.

"  You have the a-okay Kikuchi! Get going!  "

They nodded, and stated loudly, throwing their cloak off the roof, revealing a slender, 5,2 heigh, 102 weight, slim built woman of 19 years old, with light brown hair with dark cyan streaks in her bangs, her skin fair, even in the pale light and shining gold of the moon and city.

Her clothes consisted of a casual long sleeved black dress that reached her ankles, knee high boots, dark pale green blue stockings, and a large fur trimmed jean jacket that was a good twice her size. She wore black leather fingerless gloves, and a single earring blue in color.

"No need to tell me twice!" She pressed the off button and grinned, and in one swift motion, she jumped over the edge.

Hiromi Kikuchi was a flashy stubborn agent for the Armed Detective Agency, an apprentice for the well known lazy agent with the name of Omasu Dazai, someone who had taken her in two years before.

She was eccentric, but knew how to do her job.

She was here to break into the highest office of the large building, where the owner of the building was most likely keeping the kidnapped children. Hiromi grasped the cloak, propelling herself mid-air in front of the large window that lead to the Main Office, and cried out, everything slowing down just for her.

"SPECIAL ABILITY! MADAME PEARL!"

Light filtered from her finger tips, glittering like rainbows between her hands as she began to control it, revealing anyone to look close enough, that the lights were white sands, reflecting light of the stars and buildings.

She created and controlled a special type of sand, twice as powerful as a moving train, with the ability to increase and decrease the amount she brought out activating MADAME PEARL.

As long as she could see, she could control a good fifty feet away from her actual body.

The sands bashed into the glass, shattering it and with one swipe of her arm, the sands flowed behind her, taking the form a floating glittering wolf, Langshen, who barreled around her and threw her into the building.

She tucked and rolled, landing on her knees as the security alarm went off, blaring throughout the building.

She looked to the side, before her eyes grew wide, seeing and hearing the glint of the mechanized row of The Range 702s, and moved behind the desk next to her, fully shielding herself from the barrage of bullets heading her way.

She looked to her cloak, before smirking and with a quick swipe of her fingers, Langshen appeared, grasping the cloak between it's white fangs.

Then it jumped over the table, throwing the cloak at the last part of the row of men, before attacking the closest one.

The the last ones not being attacked by the MADAME PEARL Ability's true form, were screaming, trying to shoot at Hiromi, but she was dodging quick, rolling to the side, and before any of the personal could stop her, she grabbed one by the chin and bashed his head into the wall behind him, the wall lightly crumbling from the force that surrounded her fists and forearms, glittering bright as rainbows as she glared at one of the men.

She turned to the right, and kicked that man in the testicals, before turning and wrapping her arm around the last of the man's neck, and twirled, grabbing the trigger and shooting all the others in the knee, legs, shoulders, anywhere that didn't cause fatality.

Meanwhile, the ones who weren't attacked by Hiromi, were being attacked and knocked unconscious by Langshen, who slashed at their backs, legs, arms, knocking them into submission.

She smiled, throwing the man in her control over her shoulder, dislodging his arm, before kicking him across the room into the next wall, destroying any chances that he would get back up.

When all of the men were paralyzed, Langshen returned back to her, and she nodded with thanks, before smirking, turning to face the corner where the only working light lit up the last one, the owner of the building, ugly as a toad and eyes as wide as any flies, held her at gunpoint.

Hiromi's eyes met the kids behind the man, and she felt ease, seeing none of them bruised or scratched or beatn in any way. Then she smiled at the owner, although her eyes held a malice only a monster could carry...

"How rude. I just came to pick up the kids." She flicked her hair and then turned fully to the man, rage flowing through her veins, hot like lava within her very core of spirit.

It took everything in her power to not send any of these men to hell for what they did.

But they didn't matter, the children did.

"Tell me Mister. Why did you abduct these innocent children?" Hiromi was slowly walking across the room towards the owner, causing him to panic, but despite the shaking of his finger on the trigger, she didn't stop her advance.

Kids shrieked, but she continued anyway, even when the man growled and screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Stay back! YOU CAN'T WIN AGAINST ME!"

"You didn't answer the question." She replied, as if he wasn't pointing a dangerous weapon at her.

Like it would work anyway.

She didn't heal, but she never got hurt anyway. She absorbed normal weaponry like quick sand.

So she held no worry.

"I'm giving you two more chances to answer or else I'm breaking your lower spine, so you'll never walk ever again."

"I'll kill one of them! I SWEAR-"

"Not if they make a profit on the Black Market, which is highly likely what your trying to do. But that doesn't answer my question. You have one more chance."

He pulled the trigger, but it was clearly a warning shot, yet Hiromi showed no signs of hesitation, or was she fazed.

She was suddenly in front of his gun, and suddenly, she grabbed it by the nose, and aimed it at her forehead. She glared at the crumbling man, before smirking.

"Come on then. Answer the question, or shoot."

The man looked shocked, before it turned into blistering anger.

"YOU MOCKING ME YOU B*TCH?!" He went to pull the trigger in hopes of taking her life, but the only sound that echoed around the large room was the click of an empty handgun.

While the children couldn't believe their eyes, the man was horrified.

She glowered up at him, and she suddenly gripped the gun tightly, before pulling it away and throwing it aside. She glared at him, before in a flash of brown and cyan, with bits of bright lights, she had him on the floor facefirst, and with one swift punch yo his lower back, sands using twice the force of a car punched alongside her.

The force knocked his lower spinal column away from the rest of his spine, instantly crippling him.

He screamed, but he could not move.

He wouldn't be able to for the rest of his life.

"You didn't answer the question. But I have a good idea..." She looked to the children, who still hid within the shadows of the corner, only small paper cuts and a few bruises, but nothing severe or suggestive.

And Hiromi felt ease from the revelation.

She reached out her hands, slowly getting to her knees, welcoming them into her light, the sand glowing around her head like a halo.

The children were in awe as she smiled heartfelt, and asked with a large grin.

"Let's get the heck out of here, what do you guys say?" The sand took the form of a wolf, or even a dog, and appeared around her with bright white eyes, the ones that reminded people of the sun in the middle of the night.

"Let's go home!"

The incident was cased by the police station, and the children were all being reunites with their families, poor or rich.

Hiromi sighed with relief, watching them, before a pain of sadness filled her heart for a second, before she decided to check up with the Agency.

The only one who had called was her Teacher, or someone she could even call friend, or family, (not that she would ever admit it) was Dazai.

She smiled a bright fanged smile, before calming herself, and calling him back.

"Hey Dazai. What's up?"

" I need your help with a mission. I heard you're done with your case from Ranpo!  "

I should have pretended you didn't exist for a few hours she thought, before sighing.

"Why?"

"  Because only you can help! Anyway, I'm sending you the address! Come immediately!  "

"But isn't Kunikida helping you with the Man-Eater case-"

But before she could confirm his partner of the current case Dazai was working on, or protest against him, he hung up, the dial tone blaring before she tapped her phones off button, before turning it back on, glaring at Dazai's contact number. But when the address came up on her screen, she raised an eyebrow, before she was quick to start her way across town.

If she didn't show up, she couldn't save the damn idiot from whatever trouble he'd gotten himself into.

But she wasn't expecting what she would find...

Ability: MADAME PEARL

Form Of Ability:  Glittering Sands, that she creates from her very blood. She can make her conscious, or other true form, Langshen, a wolf shaped sand creature, and can create fists around her own, and legs, and shields, armors and exc. She can create as many shapes as she can remember.

Personality: She's creative, she loves arts and language and writing. She has a kind of heart that has fun on ordinary jobs. Compared to battle missions, such as her VS a criminal and no one else, she has fun.

But anything that involves children, infant to age 12 makes her angry. But others have compared her to two people of the Agency. Dazai and Ranpo.

So expect much chaos in the office Kunikida. Sorry.

I just realized now why I hate it when people react to a scene/moment in media where a character says 'they're my friend!' or 'you're ny friend' to another character in a dramatic way with "Awwwhh you're not just friends!!!" is because those people actually erase the importance of a platonic moment between characters. I don't particularly care if they ship the character together romantically, but why the fuck would you derail a good platonic moment that moves the plot and the characters' relationship along with shippy thoughts???

If you ship characters, indulge yourself, whatever, I do that too sometimes. But to think of a platonic emotional/impactful moment as not enough because the connotation is not romantic is just disrespectful to a-spec people.

out of nowhere and been said before but having such a stark parallel between senku and gen through their birthdays is so so obviously intentional and meaningful on many other levels i probably can’t think of now but:

birthdays are quite substantial, i’d say mostly because senku’s birthday was a HUGE deal, with gen calculating it and senku finally knowing he is safe, to senku’s own last name and the reveal of the village name etc etc, but also because they were quite hidden from the readers for so long. There was an ongoing speculation for all of them in the fandom, and one day they were dropped on us and all hell broke loose because they obviously weren’t random dates

Tsukasa being the strongest coinciding with 10/10 is clever and all, but the real deal is in dates around senku’s 1/4.

Chrome, who was born only a month later, the date telling us he is senku’s supposed successor, his prodigy, a brilliant mind like his own, just a bit younger.

Taiju as well, mostly in the way it’s written: 4/2 always looked to me like he’s right after senku, slightly behind, but similar enough for us to know that he is very much connected to him.

And then comes gen, born on the first of april, an inverted number to senku’s fourth of january. And from there it just keeps piling up in my mind: they are the opposites in their fields of work: senku for natural sciences and gen skilled with people and humanities; the way they talk and act, one blunt with no bullshit, other coating every word he says in honey; their early interactions when they were almost on opposite sides, before gen chose his allegiance…

And maybe the most important thing that i can’t even articulate how much it means to me: they gifted each other their birthdays. Senku revived on gen’s birthday. (That alone is SO FREAKING VALUABLE, fueling the relationship strictly in the meta sense, for us readers to interpret.) Senku meticulously kept count, and PICKED A DAY HE WOULD BREAK OUT OF STONE- not knowing of course whose birthday that is, but you can’t deny it sounds like destiny. He wakes up, and to give himself strength and the will to keep going he craves the date in a tree. And it just so happens that that date is the day gen asagiri was born. Gen gets depetrified and it’s the first thing he learns about a stranger who is the reason he got brought back: he stayed awake and counted, and he carved his birthday in a tree. It almost feels then, like gen is the one returning the favor, a bit later when he decides to surprise senku with the observatory. To be the first person to think of senku in that sense: to give him something special, even though he could tell senku doesn’t care about birthdays. Beyond even the romantic connotations I literally refuse to ignore, all this just confirms one of my favorite facts and building bricks of this series. In a story with so many moving parts and lovable, charismatic characters, it’s impossible to give them all much screen time. So, even in arcs where pilots and scientists and warriors had to slightly outshine gen, all this underlining, almost background information and storytelling just lets us know that no matter what, senku and gen share a bond that cannot be broken, replicated, or overlooked. They’re essential to each other, and whatever distance is maybe separating them truly amounts to nothing at all.
