The DOA/RITHOTD preschool au!!!

(Writing this because I feel inspired ✨️)

These are the "rules"/"world building" of this au and fun facts about it. I might write an actual story story of this one day. Anyways, the setup:

Ivan is the teacher.

Members of the DOA & RITHOTD are the students/children (ages 3 to 5). This includes Fyodor (5), Nikolai (5), Sigma (3), Bram (???), Nathaniel (5), Mushitaro (4), & Pushkin (4). Expect Fukuchi because of bias.

Surprisingly, most days at the preschool aren't too chaotic. Though wildness is bound to happen.

Sigma is the youngest. He's a little shy, but he is PASSIONATE about playing pretend. If they were playing pretend restaurant, he would be the manager dashing around the room and making sure that the customers in his pretend restaurant are satisfied with the service.

Sigma also likes story time and snack time.

Fyodor is more mature. He likes to read by himself a lot, but he will still interact with the other kids. He is the intelligence of the group, so doing stupid stuff is less likely to happen.

When playing pretend castle or kingdoms, just like Sigma, Fyodor will become passionate about the game. Make him king of this pretend kingdom, and he will become a dictating ruler.

Nikolai is more silly and hyperactive. He can't sit still for long, always making jokes or messing around with his classmates. He's outgoing, and chaos is more likely to happen from him.

Nikolai hates nap time, but after being given a second snack from Ivan, he might go down.

Bram, on the other hand, loves nap time. The moment Ivan pulls out those nap time mats from the closet, he's already knocked out. (Feel free to add some suggestions for Bram because I don't know his character well)

Pushkin is sorta chaotic like Nikolai. He will mess with the others by chasing them around with bugs (Sigma doesn't like it). During recess, he has a fascination with collecting bugs.

Nathaniel, he's sorta of the same as Fyodor, mostly likes to read, and he's on the more quieter side.

Nathaniel likes the swings because he gets to swing with Margaret, who is in a different class.

Mushitaro is either very well-behaved or very mischievous, depending on the mood of the day. Sometimes, when Ivan has his backed turn, Mushitaro will probably do something he isn't supposed to do before acting all innocent and well-behaved when Ivan turns back around.

Mushitaro also loves story time. It can be Ivan reading to the classroom or his friend Yokomizo during recess since they're in separate classes as well.

Preschool Dazai and Chuuya are so adorable so here's some hcs for them

THIS IS PLATONIC.

(there's a read more because there's kind of a lot)

-Dazai and Chuuya will always play together no matter what happens. They play ball a lot.

-The teacher has to take them away because they always tease each other to the point of yelling. This makes it worse because than they start sobbing.

-They run to each other after getting taken away by the teacher.

-Lunch time is when Dazai normally takes most of Chuuya's food. Dazai has his own but he likes Chuuya's better. Chuuya will just swap their lunches.

-They always sleep together during nap time. It doesn't matter if they just fought, they're sleeping together because they can't sleep without each other.

-You're supposed to sleep by yourself and not with another person, so the teacher took them away so they can sleep on their own. This woke them up and they sobbed until they cuddled again and fell asleep instantly.

-The teacher now knows to let them stay asleep together. The teacher also can't wake them up at the correct time because they refuse to leave each other and get really grumpy if they don't wake up on their own.

-Anytime the other gets hurt they laugh and then give them hugs.

-They give each other flowers when it's an outside day.

-They always walk together and hold hands. Nothing will stop them from holding hands. They even hold hands in their sleep. (if they're not hugging)

-Dazai pokes Chuuya to wake him up. Chuuya hits him to wake him up. Chuuya doesn't mean any harm with it though, he's just a little stronger than other kids.

-Dazai and Chuuya flip between being light sleepers and heavy sleepers.

-If the other even loosens their grip just a bit they will wake up, though.

-Chuuya calls Dazai 'daze' or 'osamu' and Dazai calls Chuuya 'chuu' or 'chuu chuu'.

-No, Chuuya can not say Dazai correctly. Dazai doesn't correct him. He knows Chuuya says it wrong but doesn't care.

-Yes, Chuuya hates getting called Chuu and Chuu Chuu. He doesn't stop Dazai though, because it never worked when he tried.

-When one of them is upset, the other glares at everyone while holding them.

-Sometimes after crying a lot, the one crying gets tired and asks to sleep. They immediately go to bed together even if it isn't nap time.

-Dazai struggles to sleep outside of preschool because he doesn't have Chuuya with him. Chuuya struggles to sleep outside of preschool because he's used to Dazai poking him.

I wanna try posting some art of my BSD OC :”D I drew this in the WAN style, also! The preschool thing was so cute.

M OC (middle) is Finn Bartholomew, in the normal AU, she is a sister figure to Atsushi and Kyoka. I might make a post introducing her properly :”)

I love bsd wan because not only does it provide me with much needed serotonin in the form of cute chibi antics, it has some excellent and easy to understand characterization that doesn’t require an entire meta essay to figure out.

First episode: we see more of Atsushi being internally snarky about Dazai’s laziness, discover that Yosano enjoys wine, and Ranpo really likes small spaces full of food to hang out. Second episode: Higuchi is really trying her best to be helpful to everyone at work, and Kyouka’s need to be useful to others sometimes comes into competition with Atsushi’s. I think there’s an argument to be made for neurodivergent Higuchi, honestly; she sometimes misses social cues, hyperfixates on tasks, and has deep seated trauma from being considered useless that she copes with by becoming a people pleaser at the expense of her own health

Fourth episode, we see more of Akutagawa’s intense loyalty to Dazai, but also that Atsushi is passive aggressive and would rather avoid arguments than explain himself. Rather than openly telling Akutagawa “Dazai sent me here to act as the intermediary and deliver the groceries to him,” he just walks away and decides that finding him again is Akutagawa’s problem. He’s usually confrontational, but because of their work sanctioned partnership, he’s just...tired of being forced to work together. So he decides to take the moral high ground because he doesn’t want Akutagawa to have it. And then, when they get in a fight over whether Akutagawa is keeping his promise not to kill, Atsushi stalks him to make sure he’s fulfilling it, then feels bad about doubting him. And the really interesting bit-- he buys him pork buns as an apology, and calls Akutagawa a pig for snatching them up so fast with his ability. But both of them grew up hungry; beast has shown us that they can get along quite well and relate to each other if they meet on equal footing. If Atsushi knew about Akutagawa’s past, I wonder if he would have had the same reaction; if he would have sympathized with hoarding food like you don’t know where your next meal will come from. Then there’s the horror stories episode, in which we see that Kunikida has an extremely unhealthy outlook on work/life balance, Dazai and Kyouka are a bit hit-or-miss on stories that are both appropriate for work and unrelated to mafia trauma, and atsushi’s worst fear is being unable to trust his own perception. Kunikida is scared of failure, Kyouka no longer has a normal fear response because ~emotional repression~, Dazai is really fucking tired and probably needs to look into chronic fatigue as a symptom of PTSD, and Atsushi has been manipulated and gaslit so much that he no longer trusts his own mind to tell him what’s real or not. (That would actually make a good angst/horror fic; atsushi keeps seeing strange things, but can’t tell if they’re hallucinations or not.)

On a lighter note, let’s look at the school AUs. Episode five confirmed that Dazai’s basically a melodramatic chuunibyou, and while he and Chuuya will get into fights with each other, they still care. They’re just tsundere and have no idea how to express affection. And the preschool AU about Dazai getting bullied by four year olds and obsessing over a children’s cartoon was, first of all, a big mood, and second of all, showed that Ranpo has trouble relating to kids his own age and is lonely. Kyouka is creative, but has trouble expressing herself to others and gets disheartened when she isn’t understood. That might explain her blunt manner of speaking later in the series-- when she first meets Atsushi, she introduces herself, explains what she’s done, and expects him to understand her guilt. But he can’t comprehend what she means until she says “I don’t want to kill anyone anymore!” and leaps out the window. They have a really interesting and underexplored dynamic where they care deeply about each other, but don’t have a broad enough worldview to understand each other. And so Atsushi sees Kyouka as an innocent victim of a horrible and cruel person, and Kyouka sees Atsushi as a kind and pure savior who needs to be protected from doing harm, and they don’t truly understand how complex the other is. But they try their best to show affection in the ways that they know how.

tldr, wan explores characterization in simple and easy to understand ways and despite being a cutesy spinoff, it can provide a better understanding of canon

The DOA/RITHOTD preschool au!

The burning kitchen

It's another day in Mr. Goncharov's preschool class. The children were enjoying their free time in the classroom, playing nicely together so far. Little Sigma, the youngest of the class, was dashing back and forth between the pretend kitchen playset and the snack table where the kids normally eat their lunches. He was playing as the manager of his little pretend restaurant, and he was serious about it. Sigma wanted all his customers to be satisfied with his service, including satisfying the stubborn Mushitaro.

Mushitaro was a little vex to these games. If he was going to play, he made sure to be the antagonist and make the game much more difficult than it needed to be. Mushitaro liked playing the role of a food critic, always giving Sigma the unfortunate 4 star rating. This would always make poor Sigma upset. He believed that his restaurant was the greatest and DESERVED a 5 star rating.

After receiving another 4 star rating, delivered on a pink sticky note with poorly drawn stars and scribbles, Sigma huffed and stomped his little feet back over to the kitchen playset.

"PUSHKIN!" Sigma yelled in a high-pitched voice, which startled Pushkin. Pushkin was Sigma's one and only chef. "We got another 4 star rating from Mushitaro. I don't know what we're doing wrong. Are you slacking?" Sigma accused.

"I'm not slacking. I'm the one who's cooking, not you." Pushkin defend as he put a wooden block of milk into a plastic bowl with wooden eggs in it. "Mushitaro is being a meanie. That's what's happening. He doesn't know how hard I work to cook his order. I should put a dead cricket in his order next time." He muttered.

Sigma shook his head and protests. "No, don't do that. We'll lose customers."

"Why not? Crickets have nutritional value, my dad told me so." Pushkin argued.

"Nuh uh, bugs are gross and not meant to be eaten, you weirdo." Sigma was getting a little upset since he was scared of bugs.

"Yeah huh. You're just a scared of trying one." The two started to bicker. Despite this being a fun game for pretend, it was serious for them. If Sigma lost customers, the world would end in his little child mind.

The back and forth continued, calling each other names and getting so caught up in their petty argument (that was completely off-topic now) that Nikolai came over and threw balls of red paper into the plastic bowl Pushkin was using.

"Uh oh, seems like you got a fire!" Nikolai laughed loudly as Sigma screamed high pitched. Sigma yanked the bowl away from Pushkin and threw it into the pretend kitchen sink. But Nikolai continued to throw more red and orange balls off paper into Sigma's kitchen, causing a "fire." Nikolai was giggling joyfully as he watched Sigma try to put out this fake fire.

With all the commotion going on, Sigma screams, and Nikolai's laughter, Nathaniel came over wearing a plastic fire fighter helmet from Firehouse subs.

"Is there a fire?" He asked, holding an empty water bottle that he found.

"Yes. Please help." Sigma said in a panic. Nathaniel had a good look at the scene, seeing all the red and orange paper balls scattered across the kitchen playset.

"Hmmm, pay me first." He demanded.

"Why would I pay you?!" Sigma yelled, being extra loud.

"Because I'm going to need a lot more water to put out this fire, and I'm out of water." Nathaniel said with his logic.

"The money is burnt." Pushkin informed. Nathaniel looked at him straight in the eye before shrugging.

"Guess you guys are on your own then." Nathaniel turned to abandon them. Wow, what a great firefighter. Nikolai laughed more, watching all of this before running to leave the scene he caused. Sigma looked upset. He was upset. Sigma was about to throw a fit before Ivan announced it was snack time.

All the children were distracted by the announcement of snack time, including Sigma. Today was sugar cookie day, which cheered him up in an instant, forgetting all about his little game for now. During nap time, Ivan picked up and cleaned some of the room, picking up Nikolai's mess he caused in the pretend kitchen area. This brought joy to Sigma's face to see his kitchen wasn't on "fire" anymore when he woke up. All was well once again. Expect for that 4-star rating.

Please let this be a normal rainy day

It was rather a rainy and gloomy afternoon. The clouds took over the sky, causing a downpour of heavy rain and powerful winds. To much of the children's disappointment, recess was unfortunately canceled since none of the kid's brought their raincoats, and Ivan was afraid the winds would sweep away his students. Situations like this Ivan would have a craft or activity planned to entertain the children. Perhaps coloring will do for today.

Ivan started to set out the papers and markers until Nikolai came over holding a deck of cards. "Mr. G!" Nikolai said to get his attention. The kids call Ivan, Mr. G because they have trouble pronouncing Goncharov. Expect for Fyodor. Ivan crouched down to Nikolai's height.

"What is it, Nikolai? Do you need anything?" Ivan asked softly, tilting his head curiously as his eyes gazed upon the deck of cards.

Nikolai smiled proudly and held the cards to Ivan's face. "Pick a card!" He demanded excitedly. Nikolai's was practicing his magic tricks again. He was a terrible magician for a 5 year old, always breaking glass when doing the tablecloth trick, but he was trying his best.

Ivan took a card from the deck, giving a good look at it to remember. 3 black spades. Ivan gave the card back, and Nikolai shuffled the deck.

"I been practicing this one. Prepared to be impressed!" Nikolai confidently exclaimed before he pulled out a card from the deck. "Is this your card?" He asked with a confident smug. 6 black spades.

Ivan tried to smile, trying to be polite without hurting Nikolai's feelings. "Um, no. But you were very close." Nikolai puffed his cheeks and stomped one foot.

"I'll get it right one day, and surely you'll be impressed." He fussed. Ivan then just finished setting up the craft supplies.

"That's alright, I'm sure you'll impress everyone with your magic tricks one day." Ivan said in a comforting tone, trying to calm down Nikolai. Nikolai wasn't the only one who's been a little agitated and fussy due to the rainstorm.

Poor Nathaniel and Mushitaro were sulking in the reading corner because they couldn't see Margaret and Yokomizo during recess cause recess was canceled. Then there was Sigma was scared of the loud thunder. The only ones who were perfectly fine were Fyodor, Pushkin, and Bram. The tapping of the raindrops against the windows put Bram and Pushkin to sleep, while Fyodor had the perfect white noise to have while reading.

It was rather quiet today due to the weather. Ivan was hoping to lift the mood a little by giving the children something to do to ease their minds. The children huddled around the table, Bram and Pushkin didn't join since they were knocked out. Nikolai sat in the middle between Fyodor and Sigma, and Nathaniel and Mushitaro sat next together on Sigma's left. They grabbed their favorite markers and got to drawing. Ivan walked around the room and smiled to see the kids engaging in the activity.

They weren't the greatest of artists, but some of their drawings were looking decent so far. Fyodor was drawing a funny rat face with purple marker, Sigma drew a building in the sky, Mushitaro worked on scribbling a war zone, Nathaniel tried to draw a portrait of Margaret with hearts all around it, and lastly Nikolai drew a big ol bird. They were creative, to say the least.

"I want to live in a flying house one day." Sigma said happily as he colored in his drawing.

"Why is that?" Mushitaro asked from across the table.

"Because it would be high above the clouds, meaning there's no rain or thunder. I also want it big so I can play games in every room and have playdates as well." Sigma answered.

"But how would your get up there?" Nathaniel questioned as he snatched the red marker out of Mushitaro hand to add red lips to his Margaret drawing.

Sigma went silent as he thought about it. A airplane, helicopter, flying cars, a rocket, all thought answers to choose from. But he didn't get to answer when Nikolai burst out his idea. "OH I know! He can transformed into a bird and fly up there!" Nikolai said excitedly as he rocked back and forth in his chair.

"That's stupid. He's not a bird." Mushitaro said.

"Nuh uh, not with magic!" Nikolai defended. "Anything can turn into a bird!" He said with excitement, hoping out of his seat and holding up his bird drawing.

Fyodor shook his head. "That's clearly a drawing." He pointed out the obvious, and Nikolai puffed his cheeks again.

"That's because you haven't seen my magic trick yet." Nikolai then grabs his little backpack from his cubby. "When I put this paper in my bag, out will come a bird!" Fyodor and Mushroom crossed their arms, given Nikolai, "then prove it" attitude, while Sigma sits in excitement to see a magic trick.

Nikolai then opened up his bag and shoved his paper into his bag. Suddenly, a bird comes flying out of his bag. All because Nikolai caught a bird and shoved it into his bag in the morning while on his way to school. Poor bird. Sigma was in awe, but Fyodor screamed as the bird was flying in circles around the table.

Nathaniel tried to shoo it away, and Fyodor jumped back. Ivan saw all the commotion and left the room to grab a box to contain it. A second later he came back with a box to catch it. All the kids stood away from the table as the bird landed there, landing on Fyodor's drawing. Fyodor panicked.

"Nikolai, if your bird poo on my drawing, I'm banning you from play dates at my house." Fyodor threatened. The most horrifying threat for a 5 year old to make. Nikolai started to cry because of this. Nikolai's sobs became even more louder as the bird did ruin Fyodor's drawing because the poor bird was scared to crap as Ivan jumped on the table to catch it.

Good news the bird was caught and set free to the rain outside. Bad news, Fyodor's drawing was ruined, and now Fyodor doesn't qualify Nikolai as his friend anymore, which only makes Nikolai cry harder. It was such a chaotic mess, and to make it all worse, the parents arrived early to pick up their kids due to the storm getting worse.

Poor Ivan couldn't even begin how to explain to the parents why there's such a chaotic mess.

Friends?

(Part two of "Please let this be a normal rainy day.")

It's been a day since the whole bird fiasco incident. New backpack rules had to be put into place because of it. Poor Nikolai has been upset since then. Not only has he gotten in trouble for bringing a bird to school, but now his once best friend Fyodor is no longer friends with him.

Coming into the preschool was rough for Nikolai. He didn't want to go today. He didn't want to see Fyodor still mad at him. But Nikolai had to go to school. There was no use in arguing with his mom.

Dragging himself into the classroom and throwing his backpack into his cubby, Nikolai spotted Fyodor across the room. Fyodor was reading to himself again since it's another rainy day. Nikolai started to feel awkward. Part of him wants to come up to Fyodor and apologize but the other part of him fears that Fyodor will snap at him.

Upon looking around the classroom, trying to figure out how to spend his free time, Nikolai couldn't spot Ivan, causing him to worry a little. Nikolai finds Sigma playing over by the kitchen play set, so he goes to him.

"Sigma? Where's Mr. G?" Nikolai asked, sounding a little bummed out.

"I dunno. He said he had to go pick up something." Sigma answered, unaware that Nikolai was feeling down. Just then, Mushitaro came walking over with a mischievous smile.

"Hehe, if we have no teacher you know what that means?" Mushitaro then snapped his fingers. "It means we have UNLIMITED free time." He shouted with excitement and mischief.

Nikolai's eyes brightened, and his mood went up a little. Sigma had the same sparkly eyes upon this news. The other children overheard and came over to where the three were standing. They all seemed excited. Who wouldn't? No teacher? No adults? That's basically freedom to children.

No adults equal no rules. No rules equals they can do whatever they want. And with this newfound knowledge that their teacher isn't in the classroom, they go wild with it. Sigma and Fyodor start taking the chairs from the activity table to build a blanket fort. It's time for Fyodor's favorite pretend game, "Kingdom." Basically a game that the kids pretend that they are kings ruling a kingdom or more.

There are two kingdoms, "The Rats" (Fyodor's kingdom) and "The Mosquitos" (Bram's kingdom). Fyodor's fort is made of chairs, multiple blankets, a tipped over table as a defense wall, and bean bags as his throne. Fyodor's kingdom population consist of Nathaniel (his bishop), Sigma (Fyodor timid soldier), and Mushitaro (his right hand man, even though that was Nikolai's role before).

On Bram's side, their castle is built of couch cushions, the naptime mats as their wall of defense, and lots and lots of pillows for their "grand dining table." Nikolai's was Bram's right-hand man, and Pushkin was a messenger for Bram. With both kingdoms set up, the kids began to play in this imaginative world.

Inside Bram's castle sat Bram on his couch cushion throne, Nikolai next to him while Pushkin came in with a few small bags of Goldfish as a snack.

"Your majesty, I got the finest type of Goldfish for you from the snack cave." Pushkin presented the three bags of Goldfish to Bram. Bram was pleased, nodding his head with his plastic crown on his head.

"Good job. Now we shall feast upon our glorious meal." Bram said. He got up and brought out three cherry flavored Kool-aid jammers. The three have a toast to the fact they have unlimited free time and no adult to stop them. But as they enjoyed their snacks, Sigma was laying right outside the entrance to their castle.

He was spying on them with a pair of binoculars. Documenting everything onto a Christmas themed notepad, all in purple crayon. He took lots of notes. Though his "notes" were more of scribbles and gibberish. After spying for two minutes, Sigma ran across the classroom, where The Rat's kingdom was located.

"King Fyodor! My king. The enemy king took all the snacks." Sigma informed loudly, crawling into the fort. Fyodor, sitting on his beanbag throne, narrowed his eyes and threw his empty grape flavored Kool-aid to the ground in a fit.

"What do you mean they took all the snacks?! Isn't there more in the snack cave?" Fyodor shouted, snapping already. Sigma flinched, Nathaniel hid his face behind his "Holy Bible for kids", and Mushitaro ducked his head under a bean bag. They all knew about the unfortunate news before Fyodor. Sigma had to deliver the unfortunate news.

"W-well....y-y-you see my king.... we're out of snacks. The goldfish bags was all we had left. There's no more in the snack cave." Sigma informed. Mushitaro came out under his bean bag and nodded.

"The Mosquitos took the last bags of Goldfish. Even though they rightfully belong to us." Mushitaro added, sounding just upset as Fyodor.

Fyodor huffed and stomped his little foot. "That's not fair! They don't deserve the snacks. Nikolai is a stupid face for hogging all the snacks." Most of Fyodor's anger was directed towards Nikolai since yesterday's incident still left the two upset. A broken friendship all because of a ruined drawing. Fyodor then snapped his fingers. "Mushitaro, I want you to help create a battle plan. We're going to war." Fyodor commanded.

Mushitaro nodded and grabbed some paper and crayons, scribble out the classroom, and their kingdoms. They start to build strategies on where and when to attack. Meanwhile, over at Bram's castle, the three were playing Jenga. It was peaceful over there.

"Bram, do you think Fyodor hates me?" Nikolai asked out of the blue, sighing a little to himself. Despite their little kingdom game and no adults, Nikolai can't help but still feel a little down.

Bram stacked a Jenga block on top of the tower. "I don't know. He's probably mad, but I don't think he hates you. You're his best friend. Why do you think he hates you?"

Nikolai sighs. "Well for one, Fyodor is loud, and I can hear him call me a stupid face across the classroom. And two, he's not wearing his friendship bracelet today. He told me he was going to wear it every day. I think he hates me now because of the bird yesterday." Nikolai sniffled. His feelings were hurt, and not wearing the friendship bracelet did mean a lot to Nikolai. To Nikolai, this was a serious situation.

Nikolai was about to start crying while Bram and Pushkin comforted him. "Well, we can be your new friends. I want a friendship bracelet as well." Bram said with a smile, trying his best to cheer up Nikolai.

Nikolai sniffled and wiped his eye. "Really? You guys want to be my friends?" He asked. Both of them nod. Nikolai smiled a little. New friends? That seemed to cheer him up a little.

"To prove it, I'll go fetch the Rainbow Loom kit, and we can make the bracelets now." Pushkin volunteered , crawling out of the cushion castle. Nikolai felt excited to make friendship bracelets with his new friends. Everything seemed to be looking up for Nikolai, until a loud screeching sound of a cheap recorder on a high f was heard across the room. It was torturing to hear.

Nikolai and Bram covered their ears from inside of the castle as they heard the sound of Pushkin screaming from being attacked by a sea Nerf darts aimed at him. A second after the loud recorder, Fyodor yells out from across the room. "Attack!"

Nikolai poked his head out from the castle entrance to see what all the fuss was about. He was met with a horrid sight of Fyodor's kingdom charging at them with foam swords and shields. They're being ambushed! Fyodor just declared war, and they're not prepared! Whatever shall they do?!
