Do you ever think about how Bonnie started putting up walls because her family betrayed her (effectively trying to lobotomize her to make her subordinate to them), and then she met and fell in love with Marceline, and their breakup left them both feeling betrayed and isolated, and THEN, after that, she let someone in again, with Shoko, only to once again be betrayed. As far as she knows, Shoko was only ever using her. They never got to talk about it, so Bonnie couldn't know that their friendship meant something to Shoko too and wasn't just a means to an end. And after that she just. Presumably didn't form any meaningful connections for HUNDREDS of years, until Finn came along and started busting down the walls of all three of our favorite tragic immortals.

I think everyone knows how much loneliness and isolation in relation to immortality effects Simon/IK and Marceline, and I think it's often overlooked when it comes to Bonnie. She, too, is defined by a yearning for connection that she refuses to grant herself at the risk of being hurt again

I've been thinking so much about my virus au but I just can't seem to put the ideas into art... So I guess I'll put a few bullet points down so I don't forget:

! This might be messy and a bit scrambled !

• There are several factions opposing the Royal Vanguard, 2 of which are based near Ponyville

• The Horizon, a shelter for infected ponies who have been banned from the castle, formerly led by Fluttershy and now taken over by Discord.

• Derpy/Ditzy is a Horizon member who joined after her daughter caught the virus. She acts as a courier between the shelter and the few survivor camps who have not yet joined the Vanguard.

• The second faction (name pending) is a group of organized gangs who take out late stage infected through use of magic and makeshift weaponry. They are the Vanguard's closest competitors for resources in Ponyville.

• Rainbow Dash leads a group of four. She views her actions as mercy killings, since she saw how Applejack suffered during her last days.

• Pinkie Pie has left Ponyville to travel back to her family farm. No one has heard from her in weeks.

• Alicorns are not affected by the virus. Neither are other non-pony species.

• So far, research has determined that the virus is magical in nature, yet it has no link to other known magical diseases. Twilight suspects foul play. Someone is trying to take out ponykind.

• The unpredictable Everfree climate has begun to take over in the weather pegasi's absence. Storms and fog are more frequent. Everfree creatures are starting to explore beyond the forest boundaries. (Not me leaving an opening to worm my unrelated villain oc into the story, lol)

Marceline: Got it. Hey Finn wanna come get some fresh air with me?

Finn already getting up, cracking his knuckles: Sure, could use some.....fresh air.

Bonnie grabbing Simon's arm and leading him towards the kitchen: Simon, I'll get you some ice for your cheek. Marcy and Finn will be back soon.

Simon:.....Alright. You don't think they're gonna start anything do you?

Bonnie:.......No comment.

something about how the first creatures Bonnie created were at the same level of intelligence as herself and how the first truly dumb creation was made by Gumbald. something about how he introduces the concept of safe stupidity to her and threatens her with it. something about how Bonnie starts calling herself a Princess after she's been betrayed; it's not safe to make people like her, she's learned that now, and it's much better for everyone for them all to be dumb. after all, they're happier this way. Bonnie is safer this way. her vision is protected, this way.

and surely, she's strong enough to protect them all. right?
