buchef hcs if they find a 6yo kid and not the 12yo rat that we came up with 👀 🥺

If they were to adopt a 6 year I could see it as being one of the new airbenders from Ba Sing Se. The moment he got his airbending, his parents were more than happy to give him away to the Dai Li (in exchange for a hefty sum). Ever since then he has difficulty trusting adults.

He was very scared of Tenzin, because Tenzin's obsession with guiding the airbenders reminded him of how the Dai Li treated them. Hes very shy at first and rather scared of everyone around.

He does however take a shine to Bumi. Because Bumi is fun and cool and gives good hugs. Eventually the kid and Bumi are inseparable and he adores Bumi now. He even tries to bite Ghazan too after Bumi gets knocked out. But he gets punted like a football and loses a milk tooth lol.

Once Chef comes up he kinda does the whole 'and who's this lil guy 🥰' and Bumi is like 'this is my boy. hes 6. ' and he refuses to elaborate. Chef just shrugs and rolls with it and brushes up on ehat food is best for kids and the stuff he made back when the Beifongs were kids.

The kid was very worried that Bumi and Chef would leave him/give him away like his birth parents did. He refuses to let them out of his sight for a really long while before he trusts them enough to believe they'd come back to get him.

He ADORES Bumju. Bumju... tolerates him when the kid isn't trying to touch him with his sticky lil hands.

1. Who is the better cook?

Wow, geee, it couldn't be the one who is the professional chef. Chef absolutely does most of the cooking and Bumi is not allowed in the kitchen. It's not that Bumi is particularly bad at cooking. He can whip up a tasty meal on the fly, he learnt while in the UF. It's just that Chef likes to cook for the people he loves.

16. Who hogs the covers?

Bumi probably. Latent 'grew up in the coldass southern water tribe' instincts. Chef will be awkwardly spooning onto Bumi, trying to retain at least some heat

19. What do they fight about most often? (Alternative: what was their biggest fight?)

Honestly I don't think they get into fights often. They will bicker about small things like what to have for breakfast and stuff. But no big fights imo. Like they've both been very bloodthirsty in their youths so they've defined mellowed out in their oldet ages.

Their biggsat fight was an hours long naval battle including 4 ships. 3 of those ships sunk that day... the screams if those taken by the murky depths and sharks will forever exho in the ears of the survivors. The water had turned red with blood... the smoke from the canons eclipsed the blazing sunlight. Chef lost the fineat right hand man he'd ever had to Bumi's hand to hand combat skills. He almost lost his own life too... saved himself only by unleashing his pet iguana parrot, sir Pecksalot the III onto the bastard. Bumi still has the faint indent intue shell of his left ear where he was pecked....

They still reminisce fondly over it during tea 🍵☀️

39. Do they get along witg the other's family? If not, how do they deal with the other's family?

Chef probably gets along with Bumi's family pretty well. The kids afore him and he adores them. They probably remind him of he Beifong babies when they were younger. He always has snacks and goodies to bribe them with.

He gets along swimmingly with Pema and they defo swap recipies. He probably bonds with Kya about travelling and stuff like that.

Though I can see there being some tension between him and Tenzin. I'm not sure how happy Tenzin would be about his brother dating an ex pirate and said ex pirate hanging out with his kids????

Katara probably calls Chef 'the nicest pirate she's ever met' and they get along super well.

The closest Chef has to family are probably the Beifongs and Bumi is at least semi friendly with them. Like he knows Su well, of course and he definitely still treats her like a little sister lol. He's probably very friendly to the kids too. Mostly with Opal because they're airbending buddies. Though I could also see him sorta bonding with Baatar Jr over their similarities too. He definitely calls himself their uncle Bumi and they're like 'Pls sir we don't know you that well??? You're not our uncle?'

TELL ME ANYTHING BUCHEF AND THEIR RAT KID RELATED PLEASE PLEASE I AM A STARVING CHILD DYING OF STARVATION AND NEED THEM TO LIVE

Ok so the kid comes from southern water tribe immigrants. Whether she's a waterbender is up to you. She ended up on the street relatively early in her life. She became a skilled pickpocket and scammer. She has the emotional maturity of an autistic racoon. She lives in the sewers and often wanders the docks and shipyard.

She tries to pickpocket Bumi and Chef while they were out getting supplies for their houseboat. Of course they do catch onto her and chef grabs her like this:

She does bite him tho, but she's so malnourished that she ends up tuckering herself out very quickly. They do end up taking her back home and nursing her back to health. She greatly enjoys Chef's food and tells herself that she's only staying for the food, but she slowly warms up to the two nice old guys who have probably shown her more kindness than she has experienced in months, maybe even years.

I think she bonds with Chef first. He's quieter and just lets her do her own thing while he reads a newspaper or a cookbook. Also he bribes her with food. No competition. I think Chef is also more used to 'difficult children, having known Huan and Kuvira since they were small kids.

Bumi is good with kids, don't get me wrong. Bur I think him being so outwardly friendly and outgoing to her may make her suspicious. She probably is very surprised when she learns he used to be a high up in the military. She's like 'really? This dude? The one with the squeaky bunny slippers???' I think they eventually bond as well and he helps her reconnect with her southern water tribe roots. He takes her ice dodging for her 15th birthday and hes super proud of her when she gets through it.

Katara ADORES her immediately. She's so happy to have ANOTHER grandkid. The rat is super interested in the Gaang stories and thinks Katara is super cool. Similair with Kya, rat thinks Kya is just the coolest (which does cause Bumi severe psychological damage, thanks for asking)

She dislikes Tenzin tho. Calls him a stiff. But she gets along with the airkids well enough. She does call Jinora a nerd, though she does occasionally borrow (steal) Jinora's books. But her Ikki and Meelo are chaos incarnate.

Her, Kai, Mako and Bolin gave this unspoken 'we were orphans and the world is cruel and we are very traumatised. High five' alliance. Maybe her and Kai have this passive pickpocketing competition going on, you can't prove anything. Mako is very aware of this and disapproves vehemently. Bolin has been pickpicketed like 8 times because there is no loyalty among thieves.

Listen. They're good for each other. Bumi gets to have a chef boyfriend who's always down to fuck. Chef gets Bumi (which is a better deal imo). Besides, IT'S FUNNY.

Weilin: Maybe

I will be frank if a ship/content doesn't have Bumi I am immediately uninterested, but I haven't been annoyed by this ship yet, and I can find myself drawing them once or twice voluntarily.

Which is more than what I say for 97% of LOK ships.

Makroh: nonono

I can appreciate Mako getting richer. What I cannot appreciate is him getting with this wasian with the political brain of a seventeen year old who was isolated from the world for her first sixteen years.

Im not crazy about it, but all the content you make of it is really making me reconsider my stance. It's a cute ship and i can definetly see why people like it. Also I'm genuinely shocked it's not more popular

Its my special lil crackship, ok? I find it really entertaining but also cute. And it'd definetly give us an interesting perspective on Bumi's youth as a commander.

Korra/Opal: AWW

Any WLW ship with Opal is automatically special to me. They had a lot of chemistry when Team Avatar first arrived in Zaofu. There's also a lot of cool potential here and they're definetly one of my guilty pleasures. All in all it's another ship I wish were more popular. (Maybe I should write some fics for them)

They take their houseboat out into the sea. They just disappear for a week or smth and come back just as Tenzin or Su starts to get worried. Always with gifts for the kids.

Chef, because Bumi will often chill with him while he's cooking and fall asleep draped over the counter. Chef will then proceed to carry his tall ass husband to bed and tuck him in with Bumju.

33. Who's the better cook?

Chef. But Bumi isn't half bad himself. He does always try to remind Chef that he's a competent cook but gets chased out of the kitchen regardless.

Even if you argue that Suyin wasn't technically as much of a mother to Kuvira as she presented herself, there's still a power dynamic here that cannot be ignored.

Especially with Kuvira's eagerness to prove herself and her clearly looking up to Suyin. It just makes their entire dymanic so sinister. And also Suyin would never indulge in it. Like the only way I can see it is a one-sided puppy crush on Kuvira's end.

Opal/Asami- they rented a room in my head and are here to stay

One of my fave rare pairs, actually. They just make sense? I think Asami deserves a big family and the Beifongs would certainly gladly take her in. Opal and Asami being sheltered rich girls and experiencing the world for the first time together agh. Also I think Opal would defines put her foot down and talk Asami out of all the war profiteering. While Asami makes Opal a cool ass glider and teaches her how to drive a car.
