take a moment to think about the fact that buck had no idea why he freaked out so badly when Eddie was trapped in the well. He probably generally thought his reaction was completely normal.

Buck has never felt so hungover. He doesn’t drink a lot and last night he drank…more than a lot. There had been karaoke, hadn’t there? Oh God, he hopes there isn’t video.
And now he has to tell his sister on her wedding day that they’ve lost her fiancé.
At least Eddie’s here beside him, looking just as worse for wear. Or maybe even more so. Buck’s not sure why he even bothered with the collar of his shirt.
Telling his sister goes just about as well as he thought it would. She and Hen immediately start pacing, reaching for phones, and calling numbers so fast Buck’s not even sure they let the line connect before they start another call.
And he and Eddie stand there awkwardly. Immobile with hangover. And honestly, Buck wishes his parents weren’t here at the moment. He doesn’t overly care what they think anymore (okay maybe he does but he’s working on it) but he sort of wanted to see them for the first time since they…found out…a little more presentable.
Maddie had asked him if he wanted her to tell them before the wedding. So they wouldn’t go all ‘Phillip and Margaret Buckley’ and make fools of themselves when he showed up at the wedding with Tommy. Who is probably waiting for me downstairs looking gorgeous, Buck thinks with an inaudible groan.
But now it’s HIM making the fool out of himself wearing a ridiculous outfit, destroyed within an inch of its life, and more hungover than he’s ever been.
His dad coughs to break the silence between the four people not currently pacing around the room.
“Um,” Phillip says with an awkward shuffle forward, “You, um, must be Buck’s date. We’ve heard…a lot about you. Nice to meet you.”
It’s almost in slow motion as Buck watches his dad extend a hand toward…Eddie. He thinks Eddie is Tommy. He thinks Eddie is Buck’s date. Buck’s not sure if he wants to laugh or cry or vomit.
His parents, in their own weird way, are trying. And while he can’t forgive and forget, a part of him heals a little more in this moment.
And then he glances over at Eddie. Eddie, who is vacillating between looking at Buck’s father’s hand and Buck himself, straightening his ruined suit jacket like that will make it look any less ruined.
A weird feeling fills Buck’s chest at the gesture. His eyebrows furrow as something almost…unfurls behind his ribcage. Between the insinuation and Eddie’s reaction to it, Buck can’t make heads or tails of the increased beat of his heart. What…is happening?
“Dad, that’s Eddie. You’ve met him before. He’s not Buck’s date. Tommy is.” Maddie huffs from near the window; phone still at her ear as she rolls her eyes.
Phillip apologizes immediately and Buck thinks he tries to make a joke to lighten the mood but Buck’s now focused on the new feeling in his chest. The feeling that popped up right after Maddie set their father straight.
Disappointment.
What the hell is happening?

okay but it’s like.. you broke down my door when I was at my absolute lowest, and you could have drown saving my son, and you dragged me across asphalt to safety when I was bleeding out in the street, and you’re in my will, and three minutes and seventeen seconds, and all the blood, and sweat, and fucking tears, and it was pouring rain when I went up without a harness to get to you, and I got your pulse back because, Evan, you act like you’re expendable, but you’re wrong

Buck: This date is boring.
Eddie: This isn't a date. I told you I was going to the store.
Buck: Then why did you invite me?
Eddie: I didn't. I specifically said "do not come with me" and you said "don't tell me what to do" and followed me here.

I know that in S6 the couch theory was mostly about Buck actually choosing his own couch. And it kinda makes sense that with the change of network and show runner they would concentrate on more important plots than furniture.
But, at least to me, the couch theory was in essence about Buck finding his own home, his own comfort, making his own choices in his relationships instead of going with the flow. And from where I'm standing it looks like they are doing exactly that, even more than before. Sans the couch, but still.
Including the acknowledgment he already has all of it with and in the Diaz home.

What if …
Buck and Eddie got together days before the lightning strike and hadn’t told anyone yet (not even Chris), and when Buck wakes up he’s fine .. except he doesn’t remember that he and Eddie finally kissed and had the talk and promised each other forever.
But Eddie remembers.
Eddie remembers but Buck doesn’t and Eddie just .. he just doesn’t tell him. He’s scared and has all these feelings about the lightening and the memory loss and he talks it all out with Frank for weeks and when he’s finally ready to talk to Buck about it .. the graveyard scene happens.
So Eddie stays quiet and tries to move on. He tries with Marisol but his heart isn’t in it and so they break up and he decides to not date. To be alone because he loves Buck and will always love him. He’s his forever, even if he can’t have him the way he wants .. the way he briefly got a taste of.
And Buck is dating Natalia and things are .. fine. They get a couch and she stays over every now and then and things are fine. Except they’re not because something feels like it’s missing, and Eddie has this sadness in his eyes and Buck doesn’t know what’s wrong, and of course Eddie doesn’t want to talk about it.
And then one day Buck just remembers. He remembers everything and oh my god how could he forget?! How could he forget what Eddie tastes like? The way his eyes shone with tears of utter happiness and joy after their first kiss, their first “I love you”. How could he forget?
Cue Buck knocking on the Diaz front door at 11pm on a random Tuesday and of course it’s raining and Eddie opens the door and he looks tired but so soft and warm and like home and he says “Buck?” and Buck just starts crying.
“I remember”
And then they’re kissing and holding each other and crying but it’s okay. It’s better than okay because Buck remembers and he’s here. He’s home.
EDIT
I ended up writing this and it’s now a fully completed fic on AO3.
You can read it here 💛

I'm so happy Buck has this opportunity to have a relationship with Tommy, because it will be so different from a future possible potential relationship with Eddie
Because Buddie is so soulmate coded it's unreal.
But Tommy (Tommy who knows that there's a real connection between Buck and Eddie and where that might go, but kissed Buck anyway) is the perfect opportunity to give Buck a chance at the opposite.
When and If Buddie becomes a thing it's going to be very "If soulmates were real you would be mine."
They'll say things like "We are inevitable" or "We were made for each other" or "I was born loving you" or "our whole lives have been leading up to this. To us"
And wouldn't it be brilliant if Buck also got to experience "If soulmates were real, you wouldn't be mine. But who gives a fuck. I'm choosing you. I'm loving you on purpose."
Because I want Buck to have had both types of love, because if there was ever a character to deserve it, it's Buck

So, I know everyone thinks Eddie is Babygirl, but I'm sorry guys, it's 110% Buck. Buck will always be the puppy dog following Eddie around because to him, he hung the moon.
No one will ever convince me otherwise.

Okay this is just my opinion but I know not everyone will agree. I don't want Buck and Tommy's relationship to be solely a catalyst for Buddie to get together. I want Buck to enjoy his first relationship with a man. I want them to be happy. Even if Buddie ends up being endgame. I want Buck and Tommy to have a real chance.
