Rei, desperately fighting to keep his daughter.

Rei, the man who reluctantly agreed to be Miri's father, the one finding any reason for her to stay with her papas.

Rei, the man who was a robot and never showed any emotion now enraged to learn that the mother who abandoned his daughter is now demanding to take her back, blackmailing them with the knowledge of their employment.

Rei, the man who, just a year ago, wasn't even properly equipped to take care of a cat.

Rei, the man who now adores and loves Miri and doesn't want to lose her and is falling apart inside at having to let her go.

Rei, who, alongside Kazuki, put aside their selfish desires to keep Miri in their custody and instead released her to her mother for her own safety, knowing now that there was a target on their backs that could get themselves and Miri killed. And while not the most ideal scenario, it was her best option.

Rei, who learned to be selfless as Miri's father. The man who learned what it meant to love and be loved. The man who built a family and changed for the better, in a way he never thought possible for himself.

I'll never shut up about how heartbroken I am over this episode. If they don't find their happiness with Miri again I'm never trusting another anime again.

LISTEN, all the way back in episode 2, Rei was the one who kept saying “so you’re really sending her back?” and “are you sure about this?” every time Kazuki brought up the topic of taking Miri back to her mother. Like Kazuki was attempting to think logically and responsibly at the time, considering the reality that they may not be the best household for this small child, but each time, REI was always the one trying to—in his own way—convince Kazuki to let her stay.

We all remember that Rei brought home a kitten in episode 1. He has a bunch of plants he cares for at home. He wanted someone to nurture, even if he wasn’t conscious of it. As soon as Miri appears, he definitely seems out of his depth and doesn’t know what to do, looking to Kazuki for guidance on almost everything. But never, not once, has Rei been comfortable with the idea of sending Miri away. Even back when he refused to let her call him “papa,” he still tried changing Kazuki’s mind on the matter multiple times.

Hell, he had already committed to calling himself her papa in PUBLIC in front of those police officers before he even knew her mother would reject her return.

And now, when Miri’s mother finally DID ask for custody of her child back, Rei’s stance remained the same. In episode 10, he never agrees with Kazuki when he tries to talk himself back into what he considers the “kind” thing to do. Rei has NEVER been on board with the idea of letting Miri go back to her mother, and I think I have to go lay down now

HOW HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN HOW WE ALL LOVED THE FOUND FAMILY TROPE, THE WAY THEY WERE ADJUSTING THEMSELVES TO THAT ADORABLE ROUTINE, AND MIRI'S MOTHER IS LIKE "you remember me, the woman who admitted to have the urge to slap her daughter's face only because the literal child was happy and she was miserable? Yeah me, I want Miri back cause I'm dying, and I'm sorry if you love her but I have little time and she should spend time with her mother. Hand her to me now ty"

NO AMANDA OR WHAT THE FUCK YOUR NAME IS, YOU CAN'T DO FUCKED UP SHIT LIKE THAT actually I found really admirable the way she wants to change for her, but she said some fucked up things and was a shitty mother, and now that her daughter has two beautiful fathers she wants her back "to spend her last moments with her"? Like, if she had the littlest bit of decency she's ask for idk, shared custody. But no, instead she, a woman who wanted to physically harm her child (and abandoned her) says to Rei and Kuzuki that "their work is dangerous for Miri, and she can't let them harm her" AT LEAST THEY WOULDN'T TOUCH HER WITH A FINGER AND KILL WHOEVER TRIED TO

and I know that her situation was difficult, abusive relationship, single mother, not many money, but you can't act like nothing happened only because you're sick. at least try a little to deserve Miri's love, no?

the final problem is the fucking organization, hope they all die fr and let my babies be together (not much hate on kazuki, he's doing what he thinks it's best for all of them (what actually is best for them, being alive yk))

This one was actually very complicated to figure out just where to start. My brain initially wanted to draw it as a whole instead of splitting it into 3-4 parts. But overall it took way less time than I anticipated. Might even fully render this one - or at least try 🥴
