One thing I think everyone forgets about Bugs and Daffy's dynamic that has been phased out in recent years is that Daffy is perfectly competent when Bugs ISNT around. When Daffy was first introduced, for all intents and purposes, he WAS Bugs. He was the Bugs to Porky's Elmer Fudd, and also to that one dog's, I don't know, Yosemite Sam? Anyways, the point is Daffy was just like Bugs, outsmarting everyone, until he tried to outsmart Bugs the same way one day and couldn't. Bugs made Daffy look like an idiot SO HARD that everyone thinks that was the whole point of his character. (Bugs bunny is so fucking iconic) Which, if you ever wonder why in most media Daffy is insanely jealous of Bugs? Yeah, that's a big reason. And while this dynamic isn't touched on much anymore, Daffy tends to be portrayed as a total idiot whether or not Bugs is around, I kinda miss it. And of course Bugs still effects Daffy, Daffy still acts slightly different around Bugs, but the absolute complete CHANGE was so delicious. Daffy used to be a genius until Bugs made him look dumb, he was so smart until Bugs showed up and all of a sudden he was an idiot. The same thing happened with Wil E. Coyote btw, with BOTH the roadrunner AND Bugs on different occasions. Yeah but anyway, sorry about the rant, I just find it so interesting.

"Fans of Fanart"

I tend to do a lot of my drawing in public areas, the park, mall, but most of time it's a at local Barnes N Noble's. And every now and then, at least one person will come by to come take a look at what I'm doing. Funny enough usually half the time I'm just doodling and sketching rather doing finished pieces.  And while I've rarely had a few people crowd around me to see what I'm doing, I've yet to draw a big crowd. Which is fine for me right now. As someone who's a bit socially awkward not used to being the center of attention, this specific scenario you see above would probably be the best/terrifying experience I would ever have in my life.

With my birthday coming up right around the corner in the few weeks, I thought I would do something different as far as fanart goes.  I ended up doing a group shot a various cartoon characters I've drawn numerous times before. Some I draw pretty regularly, others I haven't drawn as much in a while. And because I've drawn them so much, I didn't have to rely too much on references. And if you've watched me long enough, or at the very least watch a lot of cartoons like I do, you probably already recognize all these characters here. 

And this is probably the first fanart piece I did in a while where I make an appearance.

This ended up taking a bit longer than expected due to a number personal situations that have been happening in my life lately. One being that I actually am planning on moving into a new apartment soon. But that's another story...  This piece is not as perfect as I would have liked. I feel some of the color choices I made could have been better in some areas. Also, had to do little bit of tiny adjustments to the original scan of this piece as the colors came out a bit darker than they actually are. But this was incredibly fun to work on!

if there’s one thing Looniversity got right is Bugs’s aloofness and Daffy taking his role seriously and emphasizing how knowledgeable abt tooning he is!! I hc’ed a long time ago that Daffy is always trying to perfect his craft, whereas Bugs is more of a worker who wants to take it easy, and I love that affirmation in the show!!!!

Bugs is 10 minutes late to all his lectures. He hands merlin off to buster to go on vaycay. he’s easily bored. still more popular and revered w/ students… but not a hardcore professor. Nah. that’s Daffy.

Daffy doesn’t care about the literal knowledge or description of what the anvil is, he wants students to grasp how it’s a tool where defying toon logic based on their own will and sense of timing makes or breaks its usage. He wants them to dig deep. He demands they learn macroeconomics, physics, god knows what else and KNOWS HIS SHIT bc he is daffy duck. he is the embodiment of the word looney.

Loveeee that they did my boy justice. I hope to see more of him!!

Yet it was Jones’s depiction of Dafffy’s multifaceted reaction to his continuous cycle of inspiration and humiliation in the fifties "Rabbit Season" trilogy Rabbit Fire, Rabbit Seasoning and Duck! Rabbit! Duck! that drew most of the attention and sympathy.

I do think its interesting that oftentimes sidekicks of characters who are company mascots get the brunt of characterization and depth while the mascots themselves are left with usually vague backstories and static, consistent personalities. Which isn't to say mascot characters don't get development, they do!! But when it happens it's usually either forgotten, shoved aside or placed in a niche corner of their wide brand far away from advertisers. Sidekicks are in a way what the mascot wishes they could be, visceral and emotional and with complex wants and needs that extend beyond what they're capable of expressing as mascots. Their characterization gets sidelined in favor of keeping them as a familiar mascot and as such prevents them from becoming as good of characters as they could be, but in universe their static lives or personalities are complimented and challenged by the existence of their sidekick, forcing them to become more flexible to fit what the sidekick's arc is about and in turn developing themselves. It's just inertesting to me
