So THAT's sorted
Tumblr media
The MiddleKingdoms.com site is finally up again and in something like working condition. (The previous problems with it are discussed in brain-numbing detail here.)
The week-and-a-bit delay in this—pausing to get briefly technical here—was entirely due to issues with the responsivity of the site's top slider, which even procuring some moderately high-end tools like the Premium Addons for Elementor couldn't solve. (Though for the attention of those of you who're working on WordPress sites with Elementor, I recommend those really highly. They're terrific, and they deal with a lot of design issues that manifest themselves as "bald patches" in both regulsr Elementor and Elementor Pro.)
The solution was achieved by picking up this slider-specific addon, which is very clever indeed and which I look forward to getting to know better over time.
...So all that stuff is now as dealt-with as it needs to be in the short term. I can see where in the slightly longer term I'll be tearing the entire site down to rebuild it from scratch in a newer idiom. Probably when the books get re-covered sometime next year: we're about due. BUT NOT RIGHT THE FECK NOW, as at the moment I'm sick of the sight of the damn thing.
(Probably not least because every time I've had to look at the top-page slider while troubleshooting it over the last week and a half, every time I see the ridiculous-but-necessary oversimplification[s] of the core series plot[s] / theme[s], I've wound up gritting my teeth over how much more could be said about every one of those books. It's like having to describe seven Star Trek novels, one after another, by that much-loved and almost infinitely applicable phrase "The Enterprise is menaced by a strange alien force." ...But—shrug—marketing, yeah? What can you do.)
Anyway: now I can go on to deal with something else. THANK YOU GODDESS.
Like, tomorrow being Cyber Monday... more marketing. <helplesslaughter> Whoopee. </helplesslaughter>
(ETA: Meanwhile I'm going to cheer myself up by reminding everybody of how MCU!Luis "summarized" The Door Into Fire.) :)

another super insulting part of the watcher situation i haven't rly seen ppl addressing much
ryan deadass saying smth like "nobody else on youtube has made tv quality content"
like... i really feel like it's important to highlight that bc not only do they obviously have no respect for their audience, but that statement shows they have no respect for their peers in the industry, either.
not to mention it is a shining example of bleeding arrogance to such a high degree, you will straight up fucking lie bc you're truly convinced you're that special when you're anything but.
there's been NUMEROUS online creators who were recognized by entertainment industry workers BECAUSE they made tv quality content & even full stop blockbuster quality content.
bo burnham started on youtube & is now one of the most wellknown & loved standup comedians of our generation, with numerous netflix specials & even a movie he wrote & directed under his belt.
the try guys, fellow ex-buzzfeed employees, had their own tv specials on food network (based off their youtube shows, btw) & a documentary made about them as well
rosanna pansino has also been on numerous food network shows both as a host & a judge
quinta brunsun, another fellow ex-buzzfeed employee, went on to create her own whole ass sitcom that has been highly praised
matpat cameo'd in the fnaf movie because of his theories & multiple other fnaf creators had small cameos through the employee of the month board easter egg
markiplier made multiple high-quality shows on youtube & is now working on a highly anticipated movie (he was also planned to cameo in the fnaf movie but couldn't due to conflicting schedules with his own movie)
hot ones got their own tv gameshow due to their popularity & they are still one of the most wellknown, beloved & respected internet shows
many short films made on youtube went on to premiere at film festivals & even in theaters
the hit horror film "talk to me" was created by youtubers rackaracka
webseries of actual fucking tv shows have also existed for literal decades
the list goes on.
to seriously think that overproduced bullshit is all you need to make "tv quality content" is not only tone-deaf, but shows they do not even know what they're talking about. many tv shows & huge blockbuster movies are made with absolutely microscopic budgets & small teams, & they still get praised & awarded for the passion, dedication, & creativity that shined brightly under those restrictions.
the blair witch project is probably the most wellknown & highly praised example of this, but it is far from the Only example
it is a whole other slap in the face, again ESPECIALLY when puppet history is one of their most popular shows, to spit in the face of internet history. to see the success of their predecessors, even ppl they fucking worked with at buzzfeed, & deny them of all their success & efforts to get where they ended up.
no, y'all are not the first people to make "tv quality content" on the internet. FAR from it. because your crap isn't even genuine "tv quality".
but you are the first ones to ever disrespect not only your audience, but your own fucking industry & your peers on this level.
& you are the first & i sorely hope the only fuckwads dumb enough to pull a stunt this fucking stupid, out of touch & utterly tone deaf.

I truly, TRULY do not know how to say this, because the fact that I have to say it makes me feel like I am losing my grip on reality. But no, in the post-capitalistic anarchist utopia, I will not be relying on “autistic minecraft girlies” to be building inspectors because - and this may shock you - one of those occupations takes years of education in how to read and interpret hundreds of thousands of lines of regulations based on complicated math and physics that were the result of decades of tragedy and death, and the other one involves playing a children’s video game.

it seems like website building is about to have a boom, let me share my favorite resource of all time!!
this is a website packed to the brim with website building goodies , including a website layout maker that is the easiest and most user friendly maker i’ve encountered! perfect for creating your own neocities (it’s free!!) , the code even has helpful tips in it for those new to html/css!
i also recommend w3schools.com for quick and easy to follow chunks of html/css tutorials! gifcities is a goldmine for old neocities era gifs, and blinkies cafe is perfect for making your own blinkies!
i can’t wait to see everyone’s websites in the coming weeks and months! remember, it’s fine to take it slow and let it look silly, that’s always been the point of websites like this :]
ps check out our neocities and feel free to drop yours in the replies :]

Kurvitz stresses that Kim doesn't actually have a character sheet hidden in Disco Elysium's code. Imagining that Lieutenant Kitsuragi has only one natural attribute point in Motorics helps the ZA/UM team to understand the depth of his character beyond what's referenced in the game's dialogue. "We just came up with this stuff for coherency," says Kurvitz. "And because we're nerds."
"I like to think Kim has a Thought Cabinet project called Revolutionary Aerostatic Brigades that he's worked on since he was a teenager," Kurvitz says. "This raises the learning caps for his Reaction Speed and Interfacing."
Kim's high Volition skill makes him impervious to prying, Kurvitz says, as the detective can find out on occasions being met with Kim's brick-wall resolve. Kim often chastises these whims of the detective's, but will occasionally play along. The Lieutenant finds his new partner funny, says Kurvitz.
Kim is naturally shit at Motorics and thinks Harry is funny source

just called a bunch of URL registrar companies that have tumblr integration and told them that tumblr no longer offers direct integration and each person I spoke to was, broadly, like "wait what? that's so stupid, yeah I'll have that filed for the web dev team, thanks for letting us know"
hope denying all other registrars for your service is illegal somehow and getting the attention of actual legitimate registrars attracts a spotlight put on tumblr forcing them to change it.
if not, i hope tumblr's stock goes down in direct correlation to the fact that GoDaddy is gonna stop pointing people towards them soon.
dumb website.

How to Do Web Development
Introduction to Web Development
Web development is the process of creating websites or web applications that are accessible over the internet. In today's digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial for businesses and individuals alike. Whether you're building a personal blog, an e-commerce platform, or a corporate website, understanding the fundamentals of web development is essential.
Understanding the Basics
HTML: The Backbone of Web Development
HTML, or Hypertext Markup Language, is the standard markup language used to create the structure of web pages. It provides the basic building blocks for organizing content on the web. With HTML, you can define headings, paragraphs, lists, images, and other elements that make up a webpage.
CSS: Adding Style to Your Website
CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is used to enhance the presentation of HTML elements. It allows you to control the layout, colors, fonts, and other visual aspects of your website. CSS enables you to create responsive designs that adapt to different screen sizes and devices.
JavaScript: Making Your Website Interactive
JavaScript is a programming language that adds interactivity and dynamic behavior to web pages. With JavaScript, you can create interactive forms, animations, and user-friendly interfaces. It is widely used in frontend development to enhance the user experience.
Choosing the Right Tools and Technologies
Before starting a web development project, it's essential to choose the right tools and technologies based on your requirements and preferences.
Frontend Frameworks
Frontend frameworks like React, Angular, and Vue.js provide pre-built components and libraries to streamline the development process. They offer features like state management, routing, and data binding, making it easier to build complex web applications.
Backend Technologies
For server-side development, you can choose from a variety of backend technologies such as Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Django, and Laravel. These frameworks provide tools for handling database operations, authentication, and server-side logic.
Planning Your Web Development Project
Defining Goals and Objectives
Before diving into development, it's essential to define clear goals and objectives for your website. Whether it's increasing brand awareness, driving sales, or providing valuable content, having a clear vision will guide the development process.
Creating a Wireframe and Mockup
A wireframe is a visual representation of the layout and structure of your website. It outlines the placement of content, navigation elements, and user interface components. Mockups, on the other hand, provide a more detailed visual design, including colors, typography, and imagery.
Writing Clean and Maintainable Code
Importance of Clean Code
Writing clean and maintainable code is essential for the long-term success of your web development project. Clean code is easy to understand, modify, and debug, reducing the likelihood of errors and technical debt.
Best Practices for Writing Maintainable Code
Follow coding standards and best practices to ensure consistency and readability in your codebase. Use meaningful variable names, comment your code, and modularize your code into reusable components or functions.
Testing Your Website
Importance of Testing
Testing is a critical part of the web development process to ensure that your website functions correctly and meets the intended requirements. It helps identify bugs, performance issues, and compatibility issues across different browsers and devices.
Types of Testing in Web Development
There are various types of testing in web development, including unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, and usability testing. Each type serves a specific purpose in validating different aspects of your website.
Launching Your Website
Deployment Process
Once your website is developed and tested, it's time to deploy it to a web server and make it accessible to the public. The deployment process involves configuring the server, uploading files, and configuring domain settings.
Post-Launch Considerations
After launching your website, it's essential to monitor its performance, security, and user feedback continuously. Regular updates and maintenance are necessary to keep your website running smoothly and securely.
Continuous Learning and Improvement
Keeping Up with Industry Trends
Web development is a constantly evolving field, with new technologies and trends emerging regularly. Stay updated with industry news, attend conferences, and participate in online communities to keep abreast of the latest developments.
Expanding Your Skillset
To stay competitive in the job market, continuously expand your skillset by learning new programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Invest in online courses, tutorials, and hands-on projects to enhance your expertise in web development.
Web development is an exciting and dynamic field that offers endless opportunities for creativity and innovation. By mastering the fundamentals, choosing the right tools, and adopting best practices, you can build high-quality websites that engage users and achieve your objectives. Click Here

I really liked these unique scenes that were made for the Pikmin Garden website entry on caves. Technically, neither of these use unique assets, but it's kinda cute that they went through the trouble of making these scenes just for character building.
It almost gives me hope for DLC~

build-a-bear but for whump tumblr; i call it build-a-whumpee
for those who missed the starter post i made, to summarize: all these links lead to individual polls with various answers relating to the topic of kidnapping. all you have to do is recreate your favorite scenario by going down the list and voting in each one, and at the end of the seven days, i will go back and see what all the winning answers are and make a grand finale post summarizing what Whump Tumblr's Ideal Kidnapped Whumpee looks like (based on the popular vote of a poll game, if you don't vibe with it that is totally fair and cool <3)
without further ado, let's figure out what our favorite flavor of kidnapped whumpee is >:3
does the whumpee attempt to fight off their kidnappers before the inevitable takes place?
is the whumpee capable of escaping the situation themself?
what is their emotional state during their predicament?
is there more than one kidnapper responsible?
are they the only one kidnapped, or are others with them?
how involved is the kidnapper after the initial kidnapping?
do they have friends/a family that are/is informed of the situation, or do those people need to figure out whumpee is in trouble themselves?
do they have friends/a family that are/is willing to rescue them?
are they eventually rescued?
if they do get rescued, how do they react to it?
what is the aftermath of the kidnapping if it ever ends?
how much comfort is involved in said aftermath?
i tried to cover as many corners surrounding the idea of a kidnapping plotline as i could, but if you think i left something out, feel free to let me know in the comments of this post and i'll add a little section to the end of the finale post that is similar to little extra notes people add at the end of large surveys :)

Also this maybe sound mercenary but as someone who has put an amount of concerted effort into building friend groups and communities online and had like, a measurable amount of success in that area if you judge by amount of good friends I have made, investment that people feel in my online presence, and like... number of ppl who say they have been positively impacted by stuff I have said or made,
Lecturing people is literally the opposite of how you do this
If you look at the (very few, tbh) people who have built such strong presences on here that they are able to platform their content and make money off it, like Joy @thebibliosphere , what they're doing is modeling the behavior that they want to see in the people who interact w them
And like.. idk. Just, if I was going to leap into a new online community I would model the behavior I wanted to see. I would find people making content I loved and TELL THEM THAT and message them and be curious about them and build a rapport. With the people who are already active in the way I aspire to, and focusing on those groups of people and that content and I would 300% not do it by lecturing dark matter followers and lurkers for ... being that.
It's not EFFECTIVE
Idk. I'm tired and I'm like... I'm not motivated to make posts like this bc I want to Win an argument or Be Correct
I am Always motivated to make posts like this bc I want the people who feel guilty and bad and anxious and stressed and traumatized to be able to read the post and take several deep breaths and feel like I have removed a brick off their shoulders
It's hard being a very stressed and anxious person online and it's harder when you're being made to feel like maybe Every way that you are comfortably interacting with things you enjoy is Wrong and Bad and Hurting People.
Man, life is hard enough

Every so often I’m consumed by the urge to make a website that is literally just. The ultimate pokemon quiz. Like you answer the questions and it tells you which Pokemon should be your partner. And instead of having like 10-15 it has every single one. The biggest one I’ve seen has 250 potential results (which is insanely cool) but I wanna go for all of em. All 1025. Update it year by year. Idk where a person would even START to do that but fuckin. I wanna
