My unpopular opinion within the fandom is: sometimes it just made a good line... Which Taylor said about "I stay out too late" in SIO though.

I think being seen as "sharing her diary" has made some fans see her as someone who is great at expressing themselves in writing, which is true, but thinking everything is diaristic play-by-play also devalues or underestimates her ability as *just* a writer.

I think one of the reasons Folkmore was soooo good for so many people was because it was true feelings but there wasn't the public guessing game and paternity testing when they were released. The fanfare was about the music only and the surprise drop, and yes her best writing yet and new style. So people could hear cardigan on the radio without the announcer being like 'do we think this about Joe or an old song about ex...' which annoys a lot of people who think listening to Taylor = stanning/ knowing all the details of her life.

Folkmore showed people who dismissed her albums as burn books that she is a good writer, and a lot of people went through her older stuff and found things they liked. But I think the diaristic label has helped and hurt her in equal measure. I'm sorry, I'm rambling. I think about it a lot because I mean, I am in the fandom so yeah I do like analysing lyrics and finding parallels or 'this is about so and so', I DO enjoy the gossip side of it, and I enjoy the friendly debates over possible muses because people share their own experiences and interpretations and connections they see, and unless they're demanding everyone believe them and shut up - it's just really interesting to see how we all perceive the world around us.... But sometimes, I think it's just a really good line and is there because it rhymed and had feeling? Not implying it's completely meaningless, but .... Idk I've rambled and now my brain is scrambled lol.

i agree and also i think part of this is because lots of people aren't familiar with songwriting or writing fiction. if you were you might understand how inspiration can have many influences and also that sometimes you just want to have fun lmao
