I was looking at all the Pietro della Vigna conversation illustrations the other day and felt compelled to draw a whole bunch of lines because this canto has been rattling around in my head for 10 years now and oh man, Gustave Doré knows how to make an illustration that'll set my brain on fire

It's actually really disappointing people are genuinely angry/upset about Hunter's haircut

Y'all. It's the exact same scenario as Amity changing hers

It was a style their abusers forced on them to mimic a specific person, so by changing it they get to take their autonomy back

The other thing with Amity's cut is it was symbolic of her cutting her abuser out of her life; between the new color relating to her passion (abomination) & purposely keeping some of the brown rather than it just grew in over time (her father's hair color), it was some cool foreshadowing that Amity was going to cut Odalia out of her life, like she did the green out of her hair, but that Alador was gonna stay. I wrote a post about this months ago after COTH aired

Hunter's cut is the same symbolism. He only had that style because he was modeled after Caleb, and because Belos genuinely never saw a single GG as their own person, they were all just Caleb to him. Yeah, I would've liked to see the headcanons of him dying it red for Flapjack, but him changing the style itself is still symbolic of him no longer being modeled after Caleb, and literally cutting away the last of Belos' influence on him.

I'll admit I found Amity's new cut weird when we first saw it but I was fully behind the idea of her completely changing it after we saw it was modeled after her abusive mom. Now when I rewatch S1 the old style looks weird to me bc I'm so used to the current one (and the meaning behind the old style really sours the look of it for me which is a shame cuz I loved the green when we first met her)

Hunter's new cut might look weird (esp since it's just in a poster rn) but again, I'm fully behind the idea of him completely changing it after everything we've seen since Hollow Mind. We won't have nearly as much time with it as we had with Amity's new look, but I'm sure the "it looks weird bc it's different" feeling will fade just as fast as it did for Amity, especially when you remember the meaning behind the old one.

TL;DR even if you think the specific style of Hunter's new cut looks weird, 1. It's because it's brand new you'll get used to it, 2. The meaning behind the cut is more important than "his old style looked better"

I'm not going to reblog anymore responses to that theft post, but it's interesting to have someone essentially poverty-splaining to someone who was:

A child of poverty

Who regularly experienced food-insecurity

Who has experienced the trauma of having to sleep in a car

Who was the child of a single mother

Who was forced into being an undocumented immigrant due to my bastard father not wanting to help her file when they were married

A child who was forced to take a two-year hiatus from college due to said bastard father not wanting to provide information so I could apply for financial aid

And who is only, as of a few years ago, in a place where, while money still isn't ideal, am not experiencing abject poverty like I once was

AND WHO HAS STILL RELENTED AND SAID 'I CAN UNDERSTAND PEOPLE WHO NEED TO STEAL FOOD'

You know I do feel like I talk and speculate about Crocodile's goals and the Cross Guild plotline a lot more than I should

But then again, last we heard of that plotline was in chapter 1082, which released in fucking May of 2023. Nearly HALF of the 21 chapters that have released since have been exclusively dedicated to a flashback that has not moved the plot forward one bit either, meaning we're not even CLOSE to getting to a break in the story where we can cut back to Cross Guild either to see what's happening

So perhaps my derangment is a bit more justified than I gave myself credit for. IT'S BEEN OVER NINE MONTHS SO FAR AND IT'S GONNA BE A FEW MORE STILL

I just read a post about wanting shows to swing for the fences and to always subvert expectations.

And, you know fair! I also want shows to swing for the fences!

But reading 'subvert audience expectations' gave me such a knee-jerk flinch and horror flashbacks of all the shows since Game of Thrones that have done 'subvert your expectations' and liking maybe a handful, or less of all the times a show tried to 'subvert' my expectations.

(Game of Thrones is the prime example of Doing. Subvert Your Expectations. Wrong. Westworld is IMO, the second example. Nolan learned all the wrong lessons from Person of Interest and this is why, IMO-- Person of Interest is still way better than Westworld.

And then, for a time there were shows and movies playing the 'subvert your audience expectations game' and I remember hating it because they were doing it wrong).

I'm great with a show just being able to do a lot but also I'm hoping for a show to do both.

There's been some talk about not wanting world and universe-ending threats. All. The. Damned. Time. And, I partially agree with that.

On the other hand, that was almost always the season finale end for Buffy and I didn't mind it.

But, I think, that's because there was room for stand-alone stories along with the universe/world-ending plots.

And, in that space, epic, swing for the fences stories were made.

Also, I 've now binged 911 (first of all why did no one talk about how this show has a variety of stories that's not just the procedural elements. THERE ARE HEIST STORIES IN THIS? C'mon guys, more than hot people and ships, that's my jam. There's halloween episodes? THERE'S ORIGIN STORIES???? Angela Basset and Casey McCall of Sports Night??? Jennifer Love Hewit and Chimney Han???). Also as far as I've watched there's only 18 episodes, long enough for the kind of stand alone character centric, relationship building stories and time to breathe, and some pretty ridic arc stories-- which yeah its a standard procedural but there's also a lot of swing for the fences episodes.

Person of Interest LOOKS like a standard procedural but it's a trojan horse for a fantastic cyberpunk ASI vs ASI story with brilliant character developments and relationships.

wish y'all had been with me last night while I was watching Henry V!!! Granted, I was trying not to throw up the whole of Act 1, but you would've appreciated and understood and loved this staging.

me and my cousin i'm barely on speaking terms with (but in a relatively casual way) repotted her deceased grandmother's pothos today. this was our first time actually properly repotting it bc last summer it was in such a fragile state and we were so scared to hurt it that we just lifted it out of its pot and placed it in a bigger one but this go round we basically dismantled it entirely. we got eight discrete plants and placed it into four different pots!! in nine months it went from the edge of death to that many plants and like ninety leaves altogether. so if you're bad with plants but still wanna fool with them, i guess you should get a pothos.
