I really love iKON just because when all the other kpop groups try their best to be idols, iKON are doing their best to be less idols as much as possible xD
They pull faces and weird poses on red carpets, they spill tea and tell extremely embarrassing stories on tv, they take photos in their underwear and show up at fansigns in their favourite worn out T-shirts. They are extremely shy and confused at how to talk with other idols but they are gonna come up to fans to chill and bring them food, and they will suddenly run to pizza place and grocery shops to pay for your meal like a crazy neighbour guy. They be like "oh yeah, I married yesterday, anyway, look at the photo where I slept for 2 hours on a floor behind the curtain before the concert, isn't it funny"
iKON broke so many stereotypes and kpop rules and limitations when the whole world told them "you can't". Each member went on like 4-6 survival shows and they just do not give a fuck anymore. They were in yg basement for 10 years, they got depression and a trauma from losing their leader, yet they are unkillable. First group in kpop - again, breaking norms and paving the way for others - they left the agency and stayed together and kept the name because they couldn't imagine breaking up and losing all the songs they weren't able to release. They cried about loving each other so much and staying as more than a family was more important to them than their career - all while laughing that if it wasn't for a kpop group, they wouldn't befriend any of the members lmao.
They are idols for idols but iKON only want to present you their talents and crawl back to being just some dudes. But no, they are even just some dudes on a stage, too. Randomly hijacking festivals and making it their party with all fandoms. Laughing crazily and smiling when they dance because even forgetting choreo or all microphones and music not working isn't a good reason to not have fun with the crowd.
iKON have such a happy-go-crazy attitude and it's a breath of fresh air in modern kpop industry that I love so much. And now they finally have their freedom in new agency 🥺 And freedom looks so damn good on them.

I was watching ikon tv on YouTube again and that made me look at a bunch of old clips from kpop, and I just want to say FUCK THE BIG 3 SO MUCH OR ANY OTHER COMPANY THAT TREATS IDOLS LIKE SHIT
JYPE
Blatantly favoritism over Twice and Stray Kids, which leads to overworking them, and zero to nonexistent comebacks to got7 and day6 (idk about itzy bc I'm not a fan). For example in 2018, Twice had 6 comebacks (japanese/singles included) and in both 2017/19 they had 5 (japanese/singles included) Stray Kids on the year they debuted, 2018, had 4 and in 2019 they had 5 (japanese/singles included).
This situation got so bad that during a vlive Jeongyeon cried because of how overworked she was. She, Mina and Jisung had to take a break from promotion, I know that those breaks were in different eras but I think that there's a link on why only members of the most overworked groups needed a break.
Also Got7 has like zero promotion, when they had the world tour ahgases were the ones to promote then, because jype didn't bought ads. The boys songs were refused so many times, Mark's schedule were canceled so he couldn't meet his family. They refused to give a solo career to Yugyeom and Mark, when they failed to protect the boys from the sasaengs which lead them moving out so many times and on why Jackson got injured.
Edit: I am more than glad to say that today, 10th of January, all members of Got7 are leaving Jype. #Got7forever💚 I love you boys, thank you for 7 years of happiness, and I'll proudly continue to support all of you
How they forced that visual and hairstyle on Jeongyeon, even tho she didn't wanted it, she said during a vlive that she wanted to grow her hair but the company used to cut shorter everytime. They are extremely strict with the weight and the food, a few artists like Sunmi already said that. Somi has told some stories about how they had to sneak food and hide eating in the bathroom, and when Momo was forced to lose 7kg in seven days only to appear in a showcase.
The famous situation flag situation with Tzuyu. She was 16 when that happened, she introduced herself as Taiwanese and held the Taiwan flag as well. Which lead to many to many chinese users saying she was a pro-independence activist, she was barred from the Chinese television and suspended of all her activities in China. 2 months later, on the day of the election in Taiwan, Jype posted a video of her reading an apology saying that there's only one China and she is extremely proud to be Chinese. She was 16 at the time, and you can see during the video that she is so scared, sad and clearly hesitating on saying what she's reading, the whole video just has this weird, forced vibes. The 3 presidential candidates said that video was too cruel for a 16 year old girl and that she didn't need to apologize.
YG
I will never forgive yg for disbanding 2ne1, for not helping G-Dragon when he was accused of plagiarism and started suffering from depression but had to continue with the promotion. Same thing with Top that was diagnosed with social anxiety and depression, and suffered a overdose because of the marijuana scandal but yg had also nothing to say.
For releasing Hanbin in a DAY because of false accusations, while it took them WEEKS to release s***gri and only after he released a statement saying that he was leaving bigbang. And for not telling the public or for not defending Jennie during that time everyone were saying she was lazy when in fact she had an ankle injury, but still continued the promotions.
SM
Whether we like to admit or not, SM is probably the best company in the kpop history if we're talking about success, they have a formula that works over and over again, it's a pattern, we can especially see it in Suju, Shinee, Exo and Nct. But omg they have zero compassion for their idols.
Starting from the training, we all know the training for the debut is really difficult, but a lot of people say that between all the companies SM is the worst one, they are extremely strictly and controlling , especially the managers who abuse the power. They have this curated-ness that is quite toxic, and leads to an incredibly perfectionistic and controlling management system. Kai used to practice 8 hours a day so that everything was perfect, like surely work it out bc Kai is one of the best dancers in the industry, but still that's a lot of hours you're basically overworking yourself (I think)
As a result, many idols have even more outstandingly brutal beauty standards than there already are in the kpop industry generally. especially intense weight-loss standards, Taeyeon already said this, during the first 5 years of GG she was constantly battling with eating disorders. Baekhyun has this diet where, instead of eating the food he only chews and then spits out, Sehun in 2017 (I think) had this stage on the Exo tour and he said that he spend an entire month on diet, so he could do that stage. Taemin said on a few episodes of Mtopia that he was on a diet, but you can clearly see that he was extremely thin. Also they have a part in their contracts about plastic surgery, you can see that almost every SM artist has done it a double eyelid surgery.
The blatantly favoritism over Korean idols and the mistreats that happens with idols that aren't Korean (especially with they're chinese), as we saw many times already with examples like Tao, Kris, Luhan, Lay, Winwin, Ten and Lucas before they joined WayV. Or favoritism with certain members of groups, like Taeyong in Nct, of course that favoritism is a part of their formula but still pretty fucked up.
They have such a questionable promotion, like I already read once about. They said that SM promotes the new groups so they can form a better fan base and that way no longer will need the promotion, but still this is extremely bad. Like with BoA, Tvxq or Suju who are still relevant but we barely hear news about them because SM doesn't promote then, and I can already see this with Exo especially in their latest comeback.
They manage mental health horrifically. Like with Taeyeon in 2014/15 when a member (bc SM treated Jessica as garbage) of her group had to leave, which lead to the midia saying it was her fault alongside with the hate she received at that time because of her relationship with Baekhyun, that lead to her depression and eating disorders. Same thing happened with Baek, although he didn't receive the same amount of hate, he still had to suffer with his relationship being in the spotlight while 3 members of his group left, because AGAIN SM treated them as fucking garbage.
For stop carrying about f(x), as a result lead to a witch hunt on Victoria saying that it was her fault for that happening, for Sulli who was suffering from a mental illness but never received a break nor the protection from the media that used to say that she was a bad example. For Jonghyun who was also suffering from depression but never got any help or a break.
And our latest examples Irene and Chanyeol. I don't approve Irene's actions, but the fact that the media is so ruthless with her it's ridiculous and even more ridiculous of SM to not defend their idol, especially when there's so many other celebrities that are WAY worse than her. And for Chanyeol, who was accused of cheating on his girlfriend 10 times, but SM had nothing to say or to defend his image. It took the fans for that to happen, the fans were the ones to find out that was a fake and cover up scandal so the news about the government crisis were not to be seen.
They are so bad at dealing with idol apologies, like why did Taeyong in 2016 had to apologize for something he didn’t do, but they never had anyone apologize for their racist or the cultural appropriation that the idols have done many times already in a lot of mvs????
That's why I hate the kpop industry and the media so fucking much, bc they're ruthless and assholes who are putting so much pressure on the idols, who in the end of the day are humans and are deserving of things like love, privacy and a break to take care of themselves. I truly adore kpop and the dramas, but I'd stop watching and listening with all of my heart if it means that they would stop treating humans beings as fucking trash! They deserve so much more!
Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

Blackpink: The Album Review
Okay, this is the first time i’ve done this and the truth is i don’t know how, so i’ll just try my best.
First of all: I am a Jennie biased blink. That means I have no trustworthy sense of criticism when it comes to them and if you do, this is probably not the place for you. I will try to talk about this album with a sense of criticism, but sometimes, i’m just gonna like a song because it’s blackpink and y’all just gotta deal with it.
BUT, I am not afraid of saying i don’t like things that the pinks have said it to like, which is actually how i’m starting this review. So, if you guys are all about loving the girls and emotion and “think about how they must feel” this is a decision made by the girls, this place is also not for you either. I am a blink and i share a lot of love for those four women, but i am also a consumer of their work as artists. I will complain if I didn’t get something I thought was necessary as a viewer and listener for my money and attention to be spent. I will not, of course, hate on them in any way.
Ok, before anything:
1) English isn’t my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes. 2) Here, we’re gonna talk about the cover, pre-release single choices, writing credits, tracklist and my honest opinion about the album as a whole.
a) The Cover:
There’s not a lot to talk about but the fact that it’s gorgeous, but simple. I didn’t understand why a crown if the name was The Album (something unoriginal to be honest, but i’m not 100% against it) and there’s no reference to royalty throughtout the album besides maybe Jennie’s rap “didn’t want to be a princess”. I did find the cover visually pleasing tho, could be much more embarrasing.
b) Writing credits and Track List:
This one is quick. I’m extremely glad Jennie and Jisoo were credited as songwriters (Jennie as well as a composer) but Teddy gotta give Danny Chung to god. He hates rapper Jennie and he’s the reason Lisa doesn’t write. He’s always in charge of the raps so teddy gets confortable and Lisa doesn’t get a chance to write her own verses, which is something the sure thing cover showed us she can do. Also, he hates rapper Jennie to the point where she had to write her rap on the title track (wich is good, but, you know what i mean) and wasnt even given a chance to write more than 8 seconds. Melanie I hope this is the last time you were here. Loren you can stay. Tommy and Ryan yall were cute we had fun but it’s over let’s move one (seriously, these producers really made me appreciate Teddy more lmao pls sir never leave us). Okay that’s it. Now, to the track list.
I will be talking about the fact this shouldn’t even be called a full album on the My Honest Opinion About The Album As A Whole topic.
1. How You Like That
I say my opinion more detailed on the next topic but at at essence. Cute. A good opener to the album and what is to come, but too much of a bside to even be a pre release single.
6.5/10
2. Ice Cream
Again, my opinion it’s on the next topic. Cute song. Loved Chaennie’s high notes and wish i didn’t know english so the rap didnt sound that silly. Not as bad as blinks and non blinks make it out to be.
6.12/10
3. Pretty Savage
I kinda also talked about that in the next topic lmao. It has everything a blackpink song should have. There’s been some controversy about Lisa “born skinny bitch” but Lisa was talking about herself since she has been body shamed through her whole career. She was right and she should say it. You’re entitled to feel uncomfortable but that’s just the thing she wasn’t talking about me or you. She was taking her pain and wearing like an armor. This was a diss track for the haters. Taking that away from her because of our own issues it’s kinda mistreating hers.
8.82/10
4. Bet You Wanna
Yes you guessed it right I talk more about it next topic. It’s a bop. Loved Jennie here. She has such a versatile voice I was very proud to hear her. And Cardi was also good. Just hope Lisa will get her rap part live cause she didn’t have much lines here. But I loved Jenlisa’s brigde. Rosé’s adlibs peak perfection and Jisoo’s chorus and english that’s what i’m talking about. The chorus can be a little repetitive and it kinda ends a bit suddenly but it doesnt bother me much.
8.37/10
5. Lovesick Girls
WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS MASTERPIECE OTHER THAN BEST BLACKPINK TITLE TRACK? Love that for me. It was so different than anything they’ve done so far, the lyrics were AMAZING, the message behind it also, the visuals in the MV, storylinne, RAPPER JENNIE OMG, she got the most memorable line “didn’t want to be a princess, i’m priceless” i love her tf the shade to the yg princess title and her scene in the car and in the mental hospital(will not touch on the controversies cause that was annoying) also Lisa’s rap/singing with a flow in the begining her voice OMG I WAS SHOOKEDT. Jisoo’s high note in the brigde? Rosé?? perfect.
10/10
6. Crazy Over You
Rapper Jennie for the last time with a 8 second rap again but LET’S BE POSITIVE. A bop. I loved the i. went. crazy. over. you. I love the lyrics. It bother a bit this much english but it’s bp’s idendity so i’m fine with it.
8.5/10
7. Love To Hate Me
This was a predictable song in the best possible way. Easily one of their best songs. There’s honestly nothing left to say. Also. Lisa’s rap. Maybe Danny Chung deserves some points. It even felt like she was a feat in the song like her flow yall just perfection.
9.4/10
8. You Never Know.
Great song I left with depression.
I like how this album talks with haters and blinks, it really shows a different side from the pinks. Only a few know the emotion Jennie starting off “but you never know unless you walk in my shoes [...] cause everybody sees what they wanna see, it’s easier to jugde it than to believe”. It was written by Loren, a close friend from the girls and the boy who’s Jenlichaeng  boyfriend in the LSG’s MV and Bekuh Boom, a producer who’s been with them for really long, but if anyone got a conspirancy theory that they were involved in the songwriting process of the song, sign me up. You don’t need proves. I believe you. ALSO JISOO GOT MOST LINE ON THIS ONE and we got singer Lisa. After a while, it become my favorite song from the album. Now, it’s my favorite song from their discography. Debate your mother.
9.62/10
c) Pre-Release single Choices:
I can’t stress about this enough. Whoever was in charge for the single choices needs to go to jail. Not that HYLT is bad (at all) but comparing to the rest of the songs, it look MUCH more like a powerful bside than Love To Hate Me and Pretty Savage ever will. I will lecture later how Pretty Savage was the perfect choice to first release single, just wait. Now, to the controversial Ice Cream. To be honest, i found the song super cute and i think the MV was one of their best. It was different and refreshing, love that for me. But the whole sequence of events that turned out to that disasterous twitter timeline, with constant attacks to the girls especially Lisa over things they cannot control such as line distribuition and a sabotage from antis on yt comment section, was something I kinda already saw it coming. Ice Cream is Blackpink’s most successful single to date, but it was a bad choice from the start (I will talk about that in a second). For starters, YG decided not to promote the song well. While announcing the single, they gave us a poster with pictures from a summer package released months before. And each week they kept doing that, only using actual teaser photos in the release week. The hype was pretty much out. I can’t say my timeline is 100% blink because i have way too many fandoms that i’ve been following for longer than i’ve known kpop, but compared to the HYLT hype, they were pretty down and that’s on YGE. Also, ever since coachella, it’s been antecipated by fans and artists the possibility of a Blackpink x Ariana Grande (one of the most popular singes these last couple of years). The idea of an Aripink collab got blinks (who were already with an eye wide open after Blackpink was seen with Tommy Brown, Ari’s basically oficial producer, who has been producing for her ever since her second album and was reponsible for many hits of her latest project, Thank U, Next, such as 7 rings and Thank U, Next) even more hyped when YG announced (one of those old photoshoot posters. I’m sorry I will never let that go that company is so trash) that Blackpink’s second release was going to be a collaboration with a western artist, and Ariana herself like Jennie’s instagram post about the next single. I cannot put in words the reaction of my twitter timeline when YG confirmed that the collab was actually with Selena Gomez.
Now, on a more personal note.
You see, I actually like Selena. I like her songs, besides the critics. Perfect is pop perfection. Waverly Place is the best disney show ever since That’s So Raven. But, to a collab made to the US market, and besides the success of Rare, Selena isn’t a sales force like Adele or Taylor Swift, nor a streaming force like Ariana Grande. Nothing takes my theory that this was supposed to be an aripink collab but, for some reason, she dipped and then interscope (blackpink us label and selena’s label) picked her. Selena showed us a good time and promoted the girls more than YGE did but, it wasn’t a surprise when the song didn’t get a top 10 (a top 13 is really good tho, don’t get me wrong).
Now back to the story telling
Selena was more than a feat, she sang the whole damn song, getting more vocal lines the the entire vocal line. She’s only a few seconds behind Lisa, who got the most lines in general. I understand that it is a collab, but this is the girls’ single. Why would they want to listen to them for only 16 seconds, the amount of time Rosé got? That set a bunch of solo stans (something that exists more in this fandom than everywhere else) to boycoitt the release, a huge fansite even taking out their funds for the full album (that was low, even for a solo account. JisooBar, you aint seeing heaven). Did i think it was a little of overeacting? As someone who’s an army that had to handle Not Today’s line distribuition, and especially since we’re talking about the main vocalist, someone who will for sure have more lines in the future (as she did), kinda. But, like i said, it was a bomb getting ready to explode at any minute. If it wasn’t that it’d be something else. That being said, NOTHING will ever justify the nastyness y’all did with Lisa and even Jennie’s comment section. Nothing. That was ridiculous even for solo stans. BUT for people who got worried about Lisa’s lack of posts after the release, don’t worry. She didn’t post a lot because Thailand is going through some stuff and I don’t think she has YGe’s permission to talk about it (when I catch the ones in power on that company istg).
Wow, that was long. At essence, it  was a bad choice for several reasons, but i enjoyed the song a lot. Can’t wait for the live performances with chaesoo’s lines.
Now, back to HYLT. It was greatly promoted, it stopped Zico’s (huge in korea) releases and a bunch of other big artists in South Korea. Got 7 Perfect All-Kills and would’ve gotten more than 12 if the charts weren’t reforming at the time. It also broke a lot of records, and repeated Sour Candy’s position on the bb100 on #33. It’s another very Blackpink song that  I enjoyed but kinda aged. Many non blinks didn’t like it but it’s not like they were ever going to admit they liked a bp song. They’re annoying. The song’s biggest problem is probably the 2015 edm in the chorus. Like. Teddy. You gotta let that go. It’s time. He kinda heard us in the album. But, these kinds of songs are very liked by the general public, especially the korean one. An interview was made asking the general public if blackpink should change concepts and they said a bit fat no. So that tells what you need to know. And that it why i think Pretty Savage should have been the first pre release single.
Okay, let me tell you another series of event. Back on november 2019, when we were starving because YGe does not like money, BlackpinkBar, a big fansite, payed trucks to be sent to YG building during a whole day demanding for better treatment to Blackpink. You can find all the demands online, but at essence, when it came to music related, blinks always mention: Jisoo’s lines, screen time and blackpink in your area, Main Rapper Jennie, Lisa dance break, Rosé’s high note. On HYLT, we got nothing. And everyone had to shrug it off saying it was just a pre release single, BUT it would be better hyped by blink and the hype to the second pre release would’ve lasted longe if PRETTY SAVAGE, who has basically all of that, was the pre release single. It would’ve assured us of so much. Jisoo said bp in your area twice, she RAPPED, she was singing, she could’ve had more screetime and center time especially bc she’s on all chorus. Jennie Main Rapper would go back and we wouldn’t have to be blue balled (which caused the ice cream meltdown)every single release and only having to wait till the title track and only to have a 8 SECOND RAP. I won’t talk about that now. Moving on. Rosé wouldn’t get a high note, but she would’ve gotten the brigde all to herself and the next pre release single, bet you wanna (wait for it), she would get those incredible adlibs. And Lisa’s dance break. Not only this is bp’s most danceable song and has a bunch of lisa’s raps, it also has jennie’s outro, where for a least 20 seconds lisa could’ve thrived. Yall we were robbed.
Now, real quick, back to Ice Cream. In a perfect world (or just a world where YG’s current ceo) had brains, if they wanted a collaboration to show the pink side of blackpink, with a poppy song and sassy lyrics, the artist not to be in the whole song, and to have an artist who would driven attention from the locals and is a big streaming force, THEY WOULD’VE CHOSEN BET YOU WANNA. My biggest problem with bet you wanna is Lisa’s lack of lines, which could cause stuff and well we just miss her they could have added a rap even for 8 seconds, BUT, seeing her all around pretty savage and knowing she’s gonna have Cardi’s rap during live performances would cool things down. Since we were in the middle of a pandemic, instead of a mv like ice cream where they had to do it separately, they could’ve done something like IU’s eight. A huge part in animation and a few with people. Literally YG why are you so dumb. Bye.
d)  My Honest Opinion About The Album As A Whole:
I did some math (lol) and my rank for The Album is 8.4. It’s easily one of the best releases from this year and I loved it so much, but something were left to be desired and i think i could pass everything and just turn a blind eye at things, except one: the fact we waited for 4 years, watched all ggs and yg groups getting comebacks last semester and only got 8 songs. Loona is releasing a mini album with that amount of songs. Stray Kids and BTS’s mini albums are longer than that. It was bad enough KTL had 4 songs and a remix (a joke) with 2 songs lacking raps and no rapper jennie only for them to carry YG’s dirty name after what their protected boys did. I legit hate it here they didn’t even had 30 minutes, their longest song wasn’t even 4 minutes. Also, before anyone says anything about the girl’s interview about quality over quantity. I’d like to say that i understand them having that when it comes to have one comeback a year and i’m honestly okay with that. But their first full album? 8 songs? Are you kidding me? Like I said, I’m a consumer. I refuse to receive this half assed excuse about quality over quantity when they had more than enough time to produce and write more than 8 quality songs? what, is impossible to write more than one song per moth? these songs have formulas, they can be made more than 8 times. A blackpink album its more than a thousand reals here. That 90% of a sallary. And please don’t come with the “if you don’t want it just don’t buy it” “you can just unstan them” bc that’s not the case. I love their songs. I love the girls. But I’m a consumer of their art and if they want to be takend seriously as artists, they gotta do more than 8 songs on a full album. It’s unfair to anyone that isn’t a diehard fan willing to sell out an overpriced photobook in hours. That’s not the only kind of fan blackpink needs. they need the store locals, the people who are not on twitter or tumblr or instagram. Cause those locals are gonna stay like they stayed with adele and taylor swift. stan twitter is much more likely to leave them with time.
Side note: I’m tired of commenting on rapper Jennie so I’ll just say Jennie deserves better than 8 second raps as the main rapper of the group. That doesnt mean I want Lisa to not rap or to Jisoo not to sing, as many will say bc apparently that’s what people hear when we say main rapper who trained for 6 years to be a main rapper should rap on at least most title tracks even if not on all songs.
But yeah, that’s it. Besides the unfortunate final note, I loved The Album and now Blackpink it’s my second most listened artist of all time. They were top 13 before the album.

Since it’s the end of June (which means it’s the end of the first half of 2019… where did time go…), I made a list of what I thought the 10 best kpop girl group title tracks of 2019 were, so far. I made that post a couple days ago, but I’m not sure I stand by it all the way. If we’re talking about what the 10 best songs have been so far, there’s a lot more than 10 that I really like a lot. But I feel like… some of them… even though I like them, I’m not sure they’re really “top 10″ worthy, you know? I feel like the group or artist in question will put out something better later in the year, or maybe like that song is good in the context of right now, but as more things come out it’ll fall in the rankings.
So I’m changing my approach. Rather than a list of 10 songs… here are a handful of songs that I feel really stand out. Not just the best of the first 6 months… but the ones that have the most potential to remain in the top 10 by the end of the year. These are the songs that will stand as some of the crowning achievements of the year.
Weki Meki - Picky Picky
This is the best song of the year so far, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up in the top 3 of the year overall, or even still number 1. It’s catchy as hell, it’s got a lot of attitude, it’s got trademark Weki Meki weirdness… especially in that strange hollow-sounding synth at the beginning of the song and throughout. The hook of “like it, don’t like it, love it, don’t want it, weki, meki, i’m so, picky” will be stuck in your head for weeks. I don’t have a ton more to say about it, because in my opinion, everything good about it is so self explanatory lol. One listen should tell you exactly why it’s so good. If you aren’t into it, that’s fine, but god… I sure as hell am.
youtube
Loona - Butterfly
What can I say about Butterfly that hasn’t already been said? It’s beautiful, it’s powerful, it’s ethereal, it’s artistic and artful and totally unique. I don’t think many Loona fans consider it their best song, but that’s only because Loona has some amazing songs haha. By any metric though, this is a huge achievement for them. The aesthetic of the song and especially of the video and choreography is so… it’s hard to even find the right words to describe it. Important? Legendary? Awe-inspiring? Again, I don’t have a ton to say about this song here, because like… most of my followers are orbits so you already know and feel similarly to me, and also like… god I feel like I’ve already made tons of posts about all of Loona’s songs before haha. So yeah, like, if you haven’t heard this song, what the hell are you doing lol
youtube
Dreamcatcher - Piri
This group has such a unique style for Kpop that I’m sure even if you don’t listen to them, you’ve probably at least heard of the group that incorporates rock music into their sound. If you’ve heard a little more about them, you might have heard that they have some of the most intense choreographies of any girl group, and this song is certainly no different. I’m not sure which Dreamcatcher choreo really is my favorite… but my gut is saying that it might be this one. As for the song though, it’s not the most “rock/metal” they’ve ever done, that would be last fall’s “What”. But this marks the end of an era for them, and possibly the beginning of a new one. It’s hard to say for sure yet, all they’ve said is that the “nightmare series” is over, and they’re going to embark on something new next. We don’t know what that entails lol. But looking at this song as a transition point, it’s really kind of amazing. It’s got that rock flavor for sure, but it also has some electronic elements, like even a little bit of trap inspired elements. It goes hard as hell too, and the motif with the flute (a piri is a traditional Korean flute instrument btw) really makes this song feel iconic.
youtube
Eyedi - & New
Not many people have heard of Eyedi, and that’s such a huge shame. She’s not exactly an “idol”, in fact she says she prefers to be known as a musician or artist instead of as an idol, so she doesn’t really partake in all the same Kpop promotions as other soloists… so I understand why she doesn’t have the same notoriety. She was however a contestant on Mixnine under her real name (Nam Yujin), where she got 5th place for the female trainees, and would have made the debuting group if the female trainees debuted (to be fair, the male trainees didn’t get to debut either, because fuck YG). She’s friends with Heejin and Hyunjin from Loona, Siyeon from Dreamcatcher, and probably lots of other people from that show. So… it’s a shame that she isn’t as popular as she should be. Because...... to talk about her music and this song now, she’s just something really special for Kpop.
Her style is inspired by modern electronic music styles that have a retro flavor, like synthwave. This song, & New, feels like a whole dreamscape, you could get lost in this song and just drift away forever. She sings most of her songs in falsetto (or just a really high voice… idk much about singing lol) but she always picks really satisfying melodies. Just when you think a part is gonna resolve in a really standard way for Kpop, she finishes the line with a melody that just feels really satisfying and comfortable. This isn’t the most groundbreaking song on this list, but I’ve fallen so deeply in love with it in just a matter of days… this wasn’t even on my initial top 10 list a couple days ago because I didn’t know it existed until later that night. That’s how quickly it’s taken over my life. Please listen to Eyedi, you won’t regret it.

CLC - No
I’m not sure where to begin with this song, lol. I’m so intimidated by its aura, in the best possible way. For a song that goes “hard as fuck” and is a “bad bitch anthem”, it’s really minimalist lol. It’s not fast like Hobgoblin was, instead it’s actually rather slow. Its slowness gives it a huge amount of force though, it’s one of the heaviest kpop songs I’ve heard haha. It’s not metal, not even close haha, but this song is proof that dance music can be just as hulking and beefy. At first the song can be kind of underwhelming, because rather than having a drop, it actually does the exact opposite…. in the spot where it would normally have a drop or dance break, it removes basically everything but the lowest bit of the bass, the choreo leaves a wide space where Yeeun stands and looks you square in the face, she slowly walks towards you, repeating the theme of “something? No”. It gives me goosebumps every time lol. It really fits the song better than a drop or dance break would, I think, because it’s the kind of denial that the song is built around lol. It’s like they’re saying “oh, you want something from us? fuck you”. Which is, of course, what the song is basically about in the first place lol. This song leaves such an impression on you.
I do wanna say though, this song was written by (g)i-dle’s Soyeon, and I’ve listened to some of their songs and my biggest criticism is that they don’t seem to go anywhere sometimes, they never really build to much, though they’re cool vibes sometimes. I’m choosing to interpret her work on this song as good instead of interpreting it as another song that doesn’t have a climax lol… maybe it’s just that the CLC members are an enormous part of why this song works haha, they sell it really well.

If I was YG, I will...
Here’s to hopeless at the same time wishful thinking now that the reality is sinking into me now and that there’s no way a fan like me can reverse that. So... if I was YG and did not suddenly become so engrossed with looks over talent and be biased with his treatment of the trainees, and if I had the liberty to choose who I will debut and as many as I want, based on talent and debut-readiness, I will debut:
1. Yedam - A no brainer, tbh. Sometimes, I even joke how he must be tired of being a trainee already. If he were to debut, he should have long time ago. The fact that he learned the DNA choreo in a matter of less than an hour is, as Yoon and Hoon said, GENIUS. If there’s anyone who could maintain YG’s standards in this generation, it would be him.
2. Byounggon - Yeah... call me biased to Team A/silver boys but this boy DESERVES to debut. I was frustrated how minimally his ability was showcased in the show but every time he had the chance I saw that he gives it his all. For sure, his years of training manifests in his confidence in stage. Now, before you judge me saying the number of years do not equate to how good of an artist you are, I, for one, think that among all them he seems really comfortable performing. He just seems natural to me. No inhibitions at the same time no exaggerations. Just the right amount of swag but exudes a powerful aura. Other than that, and sadly it was not highlighted in the show, he’s a good leader. Being the mat hyung, he can definitely take responsibility just like he did with the Dumb and Dumber Team. I see him as a selfless leader who can make each member while keeping their chemistry with each other, not one outshining the other.
3. Hyunsuk - At first, I was like yeah sure you’re from Team A, just what’s with Team A that they’re esteemed so highly. I only became a fan later and earlier in the show I was still skeptical with Team A except maybe for Yedam since I’ve known him for years. It was not until his dance battle with Junghwan did I get to appreciate his pure talent and versatility. Initially, I knew he was a rapper (forever repeating “All my hittas gon’ riot, we gon’ mob” in my mind) but boy could this man dance. He could dance as if it were a language, he could convey the message very well. Still confused why he lost though, but knowing YG. That d*ckhead. Anyways, like Byounggon I really appreciated his leadership in their Boomerang performance. Until now, I can’t get over how they ranked third out of the four teams. That stage was FIRE. Performances like these are reminiscent of the intense ones back in WIN and Mix & Match. It really exhibited what a YG artist is capable of.
4. Seunghun - This boy went through enough. Just what is the purpose of delaying way too long his debut? He has stable and clean high notes even during intense-choreography songs. Character-wise, I see he is really sociable and entertaining. I always feel sad when he’s beating himself for not impressing YG again. His confidence has surely plummeted during the show, if it could still go down. Despite being severely criticized by YG for reasons God knows what, he still perseveres and I admire him about that.
5. Keita - First of, I gotta vent how I hate he’s a victim of evil editing and he was judged for wanting to pair up with Yedam in the 1:1 match. I mean, why can’t he when he vibes well with him personally and in a musical perspective. He’s well adapted with Korean, more so, with rapping. No one can convince me that’s not impressive. Just like Seunghun, YG really did him dirty when he was eliminated among the DNA team members. Among the trainees, he really seems passionate with performing. If YG is serious with pursuing with their expansion in Japan, Keita is worthy of becoming their pioneer artists. He is ready.
6. Yoonbin - At the start he was just this silent trainee I did not think he will become popular knowing the more popular Team A rappers and the hype younger rappers like Haruto and Junhyuk were getting. But as silent as he is, he’s just as impressive on stage. His rapping is always flawless. Still can’t get over his Woo Ah Hae perf with Yeongue. It seems they really performed performing then. Over anything, that is the most important thing for any artist.
7. Yoshinori - He’s a decent rapper. He specially impressed me in their Boomerang performance. I saw his determination to debut and that he was giving it his all since there was little opportunity in the past for him to show his talent in rapping.
8. Junkyu - I have always been skeptical about idols who have good looks on whether there’s more than meets the eye. Over anything, talent is what measures the value of an artist. Junkyu, on the other hand, proves that he’s not only a visual but a true artist. The color of his voice suits either hip-hop or pop song. Somehow Shaun Medez-ey. The most memorable Going Crazy chorus, for me and we can all agree, is Junkyu’s.
9. Mashiho - The same goes with Mashiho. He’s not just a face we could all ogle over. He’s also very capable of impressing a crowd with his stage presence. I just like his confidence overall.
10. Jihoon - At first, and now I feel so bad, when I saw him in Stray Kids I was so judgmental to think he’s too young to be included in the silver boys. Only to find out he’s only a year younger than Seunghun and presently he’s like in the hyung line among all the trainees. I’m just so amused at this huge twist. This baby face is actually a hyung! K enough of that. What I’m trying to say is he may seem like a big prankster but beneath this funny side I see the urgency in his eyes that he must finally debut this time since it’s already his second and probably last chance. When he was introduced to the Team B members, he kind of gave that stuck up vibe like “I’m a silver boy, I’m not even supposed to be teamed with these guys.” kinda vibe which was, again, so judgmental of me. But when they were planning for their group performance and the leader was Jyunhao then I saw how bad he wanted his group to do well. It was cool how he discussed the song choice seriously. He acknowledged the big competition that was Team A. In short, he knows what it takes to satisfy YG and he proved it during their performance of was it Go Go by BTS? Back then, I did not really notice him. Maybe only after the Ko Ko Bop perf with Jyunhao and upon watching their clips outside of the show. He’s very witty and possesses variety show material. Oh, and did I mention, how well he performed Boomerang despite his injury? You can’t stop me from talking about that Boomerang performance. As I said previously, I can’t stress enough how I felt for him every time he weeps after getting saved from each brink of elimination. He’s so precious and now I think he’s my most favorite trainee (hence this long essay). Again, such a huge twist!
Just like what other fans said, I agree that all trainees deserve to debut although not all NOW. So if I was YG and giving justice to the maturity of the older trainees and their developed fanbase I would debut those mentioned. On the other hand, if only he preserves and cares for the following younger ones, he should definitely debut them in the future:
1. Jeongwoo - I agree he has a captivating voice and he always performs flawlessly. He’s truly a jewel that YG discovered. With a few months of training he’s already so good at singing.
2. Haruto - What is HaJeongwoo without Haruto. He’s really good in rapping and his stage presence is no joke. Congrats to him though, he’s debuting early!
3. Yeongue - I gotta admit I judged him real bad just like Jihoon in his intro video seeing how he appealed with his eye smile. But boy, this boy can sing especially soulful songs. Ever since his Stay duet with Jeongwoo, I knew he’s like Yoonbin who proves himself with his pure talent. He never ceased to impress me. With his Woo Ah Hae duet with Yoonbin then Boomerang. It (dance song) was way out of his specialty but he still gave out a good performance and sadly he had to be eliminated from there. He’s one of the trainees I anticipate to see more performances from in the future.
4. Junhyuk - Okay, we all know what this baby is capable of. Since the beginning and as young as he is, he has amazing rapping skills both in Korean and in English. I can really say he’s the future of YG. I am touched how he was not all that affected with his elimination after his match with Hyunsuk. I saw he was still hopeful since he’s still young and there’s still so much ahead of him. I just hope he won’t lose that hope and motivation to perform since his talent would be such a waste to not be let out to the world. Noona is rooting for you, Junhyuk!
5. Jongseob - Like Junhyuk, I see him in the future group. I think he just needs to loosen up more and gain confidence. We all know how good he is at rapping.
6. Doyoung - A skilled dancer. That’s it.
7. Jaehyuk/Yunseo/Junghwan - I know they have it in them. They’re all really charming. It’s just a matter of pushing themselves more so they can become more natural in performing.
I got lazy to type but, all in all, watching YGTB left so many good memories. I will miss the boys and their friendship and those who are not able to debut for now.

[Kim Wongyeom’s The Deep Interview]
Hyoyeon “DJ Transformation, It’s a Happy Challenge!”
SNSD Hyoyeon (29) has been reborn as a multi artist. Of the SNSD members who’ve greeted ‘Solo Generation’, she’s boasting the most powerful aura with comprehensive activities in her field. Not only as a singer, but she’s also a DJ and a music producer, and she’s also active in variety programs. Hyoyeon, who released the single ‘Sober’ with a stage name of HYO in April, showcased her DJ-ing stage at major clubs in the city of Seoul. She has also been exchanging ideas with music producers and growing her capabilities as a producer. She has also studied significantly. Through her solo record, Hyoyeon received attention as a vocalist with a unique sound and during her time with SNSD, she has already been acknowledged as a ‘dancer’. Frequently through variety programs, she displays her healthy charms. She is a ‘multi girl’. After celebrating her 10th year since debut last year, we met Hyoyeon who is creating a new 10 years.
Tumblr media
New DJ Hyo, Music Quality + Girl Crush is Her Weapon!
Q: For individual activities, your group members have become actors or solo singers, but a transformation into a DJ is different. Hyoyeon: I think it was a good decision. There’s a lot of burden but it’s fun. Doing work that’s new that you like is a happy thing. As a DJ, it’s thrilling to get feedback on site.
Q: What was the motivation behind your attempt to become a DJ? Hyoyeon: It started with my interest in dance. When I’d transition from this dance to that dance, I thought, “This type of mixing would be amazing” and I started having interest in DJ-ing. I was curious about mixing so I started touching the machines, and as I heard advice from the experts, I thought that I should start creating music.
Q: Did you already have a competitive edge as a DJ from when you were promoting with SNSD? Hyoyeon: My interest started about 5~6 years ago, during ‘The Boys’ or ‘I Got a Boy’, when SNSD’s music started changing heavily. I started seriously preparing a year ago.
Q: If you were to introduce DJ Hyo’s music style? Hyoyeon: Dubstep and tech house, and I put in hip hop in between that. They’re genres that make your heart thump. The key is if I can lead the audience with this music. Like when you prepare a record, as a DJ, you’re also concerned with ‘should I go with the trend, or do I need to pull the public along with music that I want’. I’ll have to go through trial and error.
Q: Hyoyeon only started her DJ activities 3 months ago. She’s a rookie but she’s planning on promoting her music as a DJ through various online platforms like YouTube going forward.
Hyoywon: “EDM has a lot of big stages. I get asked to DJ at clubs, but I haven’t been accepting the requests at the thought that I need to be perfect. I think it will be possible to officially promote as a DJ around September or October.”
Q: There must be some territorialism as you come from a famous girl group. Hyoyeon: know there will be gazes looking at me with coloured glasses. What’s certain is that if I’m not skilled, I’ll be sifted out. My goal is to become a DJ that will receive acknowledgement.
Q: To be acknowledge for your skills, you’ll need to create your own music. Hyoyeon: That’s why I’m learning music from a producing team. Music has such diverse genres that I don’t think I can listen to all of it in my lifetime, but I wanted to listen to even more music and choose good songs to share with people. Like how you put thought into choosing an outfit, shoes or a bag when you go out, I’m thinking about what kind of set to collect music in to have people listen to them.
Q: Is there anything you’ve worked on or studied with the producer team? Hyoyeon: I have many songs I’ve worked on but I wanted to make note of the feedback from experts and I think it would be good to release songs that are good one by one. I’m learning DJ-ing and I’m also learning composition. It will take a lot of time, but I will take it one step at a time.
Q: As there are more female DJs, there’s a fierce competition over looks. What is DJ Hyo’s competitive edge? Hyoyeon: It must sound like a cliche, but I want to win with music quality. Externally, I want to show a cool appearance, the charm of girl crush.
Q: The public regards Hyoyeon’s outward appearance as being ‘gender neutral image’, but at almost 30 years old, she’s currently showing her peak beauty. After changing her eyebrow shape and dyeing her hair blonde, fans have been saying Hyoyeon’s ‘beauty potential has exploded’.
Hyoyeon: “I think that too. Haha. It was in 2011, when we had our second domestic concert. I had arched eyebrows and my mother suggested a gentler angle and I became blonde. I heard those words after that.”
Q: Amongst fans, there is also an assessment of ‘beauty that appeals in the Western world’. In 2011, at the ‘SMTown Live’ performance in Paris, members said their greetings in order and Hyoyeon receiving the loudest cheers is a direct example of this.
Hyoyeon: “I don’t think it was for my looks, but the loud cheers from the local audience must have been for how much they liked my dance performance.”
Tumblr media
Dancer Hyoyeon, Power is My Strength
During SNSD activities, Hyoyeon raised the value of her existence through dance first. She was chosen as a SM Entertainment trainee after being acknowledged for her dancing skills. Even after she became a trainee, she learned jazz dance, popping and locking.
Q: Is there a special reason why you became interested in dance? Hyoyeon: No. My own appearance in the mirror when I danced was pretty. Haha. When I showed interest in dance as an elementary school student, my father allowed me to learn various dances. I tried various dances while doing aerobics for 5 years. I learned that I was skilled in popping and locking, and the more I did it, the more I got pulled into it.
Hyoyeon appeared on a variety program in 2011 and said, “I wondered if I worked so hard at push-ups in order to shake a lollipop (‘Kissing You’ prop)”. It was because the dance style she pursued was contrary to the style that demanded of her as a SNSD member. Hyoyeon reflected, “It was a feeling at the time because it was a style that didn’t match up with what I wanted. I couldn’t do what I wanted and that’s why those words came out”.
“While promoting as a team, I wanted to show my own colours so I often said ‘I want to promote solo’. In a girl group, you need to appear pretty and feminine, and you had to practice the movement of your fingertips (rather than popping or locking) and expressions. The gap between the team’s identity at debut and my style was unfamiliar, but thanks to that, I received acting ability that allowed me to look pretty.”
Fans who knew her passion toward dance have wondered, ‘What if she had debuted at YG Entertainment?’. Hyoyeon said “Truthfully, when we promoted ‘Kissing You’, I thought that for a moment” and laughed.
“At that time, 2NE1 debuted. I imitated their dances and had those thoughts. However, while we promoted ‘The Boys’ and ‘I Got a Boy’ after that, it made me rethink SNSD’s colours. It made me think that my dissatisfaction with our team colour at debut was just my own greed. What’s ironic is that when we look at our debut videos, my appearance was fresh and it suited me well. A person can’t do only things they want to do.”
Hyoyeon’s presence was acknowledged through dance but her charming vocal colour also received attention. Solo songs ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Mystery’ that were released previously as well as the recent song ‘Sober’ are numbers that make you feel the charm of her alto vocal. To the public, that charm started being highlighted through the ‘Goodbye’ stage on KBS 2TV’s ‘Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook’ that aired in March 2014. This became the momentum that caused Hyoyeon to reflect back on her own identity.
“I debuted after 7 years of training but from the beginning, it was difficult to be judged by my own colour. After 4~5 years, I thought that I needed to have my own vocal colour and I had many attempts while recording. After the ‘Goodbye’ stage, I was happy because fans knew my colour and heart, and that became the momentum that made me work even harder to find my colour.”
Tumblr media
Q: “Contract Renewal with SM, System Optimized for Me”
Hyoyeon: SNSD members are promoting individually.
We spoke about our individual paths and we’ve been observing one another closely so we knew which direction each person wanted to pursue.
Q: There are members who remain at SM, some who have left. Hyoeyeon: We respect each person’s opinions. Life is lived individually.
Q: What’s the reason you remained at SM? Hyoyeon: It’s because I thought there wasn’t a place better than our company that would support my direction. And loyalty that’s not really loyalty also had an effect. It’s a place I’ve been at since 2000 so there are many staff that I have good chemistry with.
Q: What thoughts do you have when you look at girl groups these days? Hyoyeon: There are so many idols. There are many teams so I am envious seeing them share stories and become friends.
Q: If you had a word of advice for hoobaes? Hyoyeon: You can’t be satisfied with everything. If you do your best at what’s given, there is no regret. Due to the nature of the work, you will receive assessments from a lot of people. Don’t be swayed by that and I hope you will promote with your own sense of purpose.

What Do YOU Want? Pt. 5
A Kwon Jiyong series ft. Kim Jiwon
Genre: Angst/Fluff
Word count: 3,000
Summary: The most important person in the world to you can appear most often when you least expect it. But through everything, you can’t forget about you and your own happiness. Who are you happy with? Who is the best for you?
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 ... Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
(A/N: Wow, jeez, ok this came out a lot longer than the others, but I hope you still enjoy it!)
Tumblr media
If someone had told you 3 years ago that you would be where you are now, you would have laughed your ass off. If they said that you would give up the biggest opportunity that has ever been given to you, while Jiyong went on tour across the globe for concerts and fan meetings without a single returned phone call, you would have continued to laugh in their face.
But here you were, and there he was; enjoying his life without you and a work environment where he no longer has to worry about seeing the face of the girl who walked out on him.
After seeing Jiyong that day and allowing your hopes to get the best of you, you were convinced it would be a long way down. But you surprised yourself. Getting out of YG proved to be far more relieving to your mental health than you thought it would. It didn’t take long for you to get out of the metaphorical pit of sadness once you found yourself learning to thoroughly enjoy life again.
You began offering hip hop classes at your studio in Seoul and felt immense pride at the rate that they filled up. People of all ages and backgrounds flocked to your studio; all wanting to learn under YG’s former chief choreographer.
There was no greater sight to you; watching everyone dance along to moves you’d choreographed as they each made it their own. For the first time in nearly a year, you showed up to work every day with a massive smile on your face, knowing there was no specific style to imbed in anyone’s minds anymore, but to instead encourage individuality.
You found further solace in the moments you got to spend with Bobby, B.I., Jinhwan, and Mino. The five of you met up at least once a week for dinner, drinks, and to get a chance to just forget about anything and everything that had plagued your minds with stress. You looked forward to the moments you all could just sit around and be human for a while.
And so, life went on.
“To you guys! For being the only men in my life that have truly kept me going the past few months. For that, I thank you. And I love you.” You were about five shots into the night and toasting a sixth with the boys, when it was quite clear the alcohol was starting to affect you.
Has it really been months?
Your gaze wandered to a calendar above the bar that showed May in big letters. You squinted, trying to see what days’ boxes had already been crossed out.
“Well, Y/N, is drunk.” Jinhwan laughed, while you snapped back to reality and hit his shoulder in response.
“Yah! No I’m not! You know what? I take it back. To Bobby, B.I., and Mino.” You rose the full shot glass above your head again, this time with a sassy look in Jinhwan’s direction and tossed it back. The other three boys laughed at his expense and drank with you.
“Don’t deny it! You just get so sappy when you’re drunk, admit it!” Jinhwan had his pointer finger extended accusingly in your direction, as he looked at the other boys for assistance.
“He’s not wrong.” “Yeah, Y/N and Bobby both get super sappy and cuddly when they drink.” B.I. and Mino aided in throwing you under the bus while you laughed and hid your face that had flushed bright pink.
It was all too true. With enough alcohol in your system, you would let absolutely everyone around you know just how much they meant to you; usually followed by a lot of hugging. After drinking enough times together, it was clear that Bobby was the same way. The two of you would often end up clinging to each other in a lazy heap on a couch or chair by the end of the night, which the other boys seemed to find hilarious.
“You’re just jealous you’re not as lovable!” Bobby, who had started feeling pretty good himself, put his arm over your shoulder while you both leaned your heads together with big cheesy grins in the others’ direction.
“Yeah, that’s it…” B.I.’s sarcasm could be smelt across the table, while everyone chimed in with booze-induced laughter.
The night continued, just as fun and stress relieving as any other. The five of you just sat around a table, telling stories and playing random drinking games. Time flew by and before any of you knew it, the last call from the bar had signaled an end to your night of fun. Your stomach hurt from the amount of laughter you’d done all night, but felt relief in knowing you were coherent enough to get yourself home.
“I don’t know if you should be driving, Y/N.” Bobby hadn’t let go of your hand the entire walk from the bar to the parking garage down the street. You laughed at this, because it appeared he was more buzzed than you thought and thus required your hand for balance.
“I’m fine, Bobby, I promise! You guys get home safe now, all right?” You reached up and pinched one of his cheeks before you let go of his hand while he squeezed his eyes shut and groaned like an embarrassed child.
“Yah! Fine! Text me when you get home though, ok?” He pointed a finger towards your face and squinted his eyes like a scolding parent. You saluted him in agreement and gave his hand over to B.I. to take your spot in keeping him upright.
You gave each of the other boys a hug goodbye while you walked to your car. There was always a huge smile on your face that wouldn’t leave until the following morning when you hung out with those guys and you relished in it. Once inside, you cruised down the street towards your apartment; music blaring through your mediocre sound system.
You ascended your stairs with ease, mentally patting yourself on the back for being able to drink all night and still manage to drive home and get to the doorstep nearly sober. Once you’d gotten inside, you immediately threw yourself in bed and let out a contented sigh. There was no fighting your heavy eyelids as you drifted into unconsciousness; that same grin still lingering on your face. It had been quite a while since you last felt this good.
You woke the next morning immediately feeling victorious for not having a hangover. You reached for your phone to text Bobby to brag, but stopped yourself once you noticed a surprising amount of notifications coming from Instagram.
You had a relatively popular page since your name was well known in the states and especially in Korea after Jiyong had made your relationship public a year and a half ago. You’d been bombarded with swarms of his fans tagging you in posts and comments about him ever since.
Recently, for obvious reasons, you’d begun to ignore the app entirely so you didn’t see the content behind the mass of notifications anymore. However, today showed a significantly higher number than when you caught a glance yesterday, which immediately sent chills up your spine. With your guard completely up, you opened Instagram to see what was going on.
You regretted the decision almost instantly.
There in your main feed, in nearly a hundred tags, and in majority of the suggested posts, were pictures of Jiyong from some fashion magazine. But he wasn’t alone. Your face contorted in confusion and angst as you read a few of the captions.
“G Dragon plays Nana Komatsu’s sweetheart for #Nylon Japan’s May issue. Out now!”
“GD and Nana play convincing lovers in Nylon magazine’s most recent issue.”
“BigBang’s G Dragon cozies up to Nana Komatsu in #NylonJapan’s newest issue!”
You and Jiyong used to get a kick out of reading such headlines to each other every morning. “Wow, jagi, I didn’t realize you’d gone on all these secret romantic dates with Dara in Seoul when the two of us were definitely in Paris that week. How could you!” “No! Forgive me, jagi! It’s not what it looks like! I literally had no idea!” The two of you would harp; both of your voices dripping in sarcasm while you couldn’t contain the giggles.
Most headlines were ridiculous, especially when they stemmed from a picture of him simply within the vicinity of a girl. Any other sort of modeling shoots or reports designed to assume his love life would have been easily written off in your mind.
But there was something about the way he was holding this girl that had your skin crawling.
Google was pulled up on your phone in seconds as you proceeded with an online search thorough enough to find out everything there was to know about whoever the hell she was. It appeared she was an actress and model from Japan. And God, was she beautiful.
You unknowingly held your breath the entire time as you scrolled past every picture from their photoshoot. They looked too good together and you hated how much it bothered you.
“I was very nervous to shoot with a person I admire. It felt like a dream to have GD next to me, and when I saluted him saying ‘This is like a dream’, he replied ‘This is a dream,’ making me smile in spite of my nervousness. I thought of it as a special photoshoot sent from God to celebrate my 20th birthday and did the shooting inscribing the cuts (shots) one by one in my heart.” Great, so she was nearly a year younger than you too. Her comment on working with him had you nauseous by the very first sentence. But it was Jiyong’s statement that really did you in.
“I had previously met a still innocent Komatsu Nana, but this year I was happy to meet a more adult Komatsu Nana. I think she’s a person full of different kinds of charms. Since our tour had just ended the previous day, I thought the photoshoot would be really tiring, but thanks to her, it became a fun shoot.”
As you reread his words about this girl once more, tears started flowing down your cheeks without a warning. With a frustrated throw of a pillow across the room, you took a deep breath. It was too damn early in the day for this.
Well, what did you expect? He couldn’t tell you why he needed you to stay and now he’s showing everyone how fine he is without you. God, why do you have to care this much? It was over months ago and he’s the one who stopped trying. HE stopped showing any effort at wanting to make things right between the two of you. You had finally just started to feel like you had moved on...but you weren’t ready to see him actually move on to someone else.
While you did your best to control any sobs trying to escape, you were startled when the sound of a phone ringing filled the silent room. Bobby’s name appeared on your screen and you felt yourself slightly panic as you tried to sniff away all traces of sadness before answering.
“I might have passed out but that doesn’t make it any less uncool when you don’t text me that you made it home, you punk!” Bobby exclaimed, though his groggy voice let you know he had also just woken up.
“Ah, I’m sorry. I fell asleep as soon as I got inside. I was going to text you.” You did the best you could to prevent your voice from shaking.
“Sure you did! Well, hey, I had fun as always and am down to hang later today if you want. I’ve got the day off!”
“Sure. I have off too.” He took a pause before replying and you knew then that you had been caught.
“Are you all right, Y/N? You seem sad or something. Hungover maybe?”
You sniffed as the tears fought their way back to your eyes before you could answer. “I’m fine. Honestly!”
“Yeah, ok, that’s bull. Make yourself decent because I’m on my way.”
“What? Bobby, I’m fine! You don’t have to do that for me, I…”
“Tough. You have no choice. I’ll be there in ten.” He’d cut you off and hung up the phone before you could protest. But despite your words and the tears that had rolled down your cheeks, you found yourself smiling as you got out of bed to get dressed.
He arrived ten minutes later, just as he’d said, and you got up from your couch to answer the door at a snail’s pace; using every last possible second to control the overwhelming emotions the morning had thrust on you. Bobby walked right in, put his hands gently on your shoulders and lowered his head to look you in the eye.
“Y/N. What’s wrong?” His serious tone managed to get a giggle out of you, though you knew it wasn’t his intention.
“Yah! Don’t laugh at me, I’m trying to comfort you!” He furrowed his brows in light frustration, which only made you start to laugh more. You covered your mouth with the back of your hand and found yourself unable to stop giggling as he folded his arms across his chest in a pout, waiting for you to finish.
“I’m. I’m sorry, Bobby, I. just. I just don’t really want to talk about it right now. Can you just hang out with me and we can talk about anything else?” You managed to control your laughter halfway through your request, as he nodded in acknowledgement, cracking a smile.
“Yeah, that’s cool! But tell me at any time if you want to talk about anything, ok? I just want to do anything I can to help.” Damn, it had been a long time since you’d heard anyone tell you that. “But hey, now’s the perfect time for me to tell you the new plan the boys and I have come up with!”
“Oooh yes, yes, tell me, what is it?” You smiled as the two of you plopped down on the couch.
“We’re planning on covering Exid’s Up & Down at our upcoming concerts in Japan and…we wanted to come to your studio and see if you’d help us get the dance moves down.” He tried to be nonchalant about the request and avoid eye contact, but failed the second he got a glimpse of how excited it made you.
“WHAT! Hell yeah! Are you kidding? Is this for real? Because I am so down, oh my god! This is going to be so perfect!” You were bouncing in your seat, with the world’s second biggest smile on your face; the first belonging to Bobby who was absolutely beaming as he watched you get more and more excited at the news. You couldn’t contain your happiness with the thought of working with your boys again and your mind was flooding with ideas.
“Of course it’s for real! We knew you’d be stoked.”
“Ahhh I’m more than stoked, I don’t even know how to describe this! You don’t know how happy that just made me!” You leaned forward and pulled him into a hug, shaking him back and forth with excitement, while he laughed at you.
“Aish, you’re such a dork about this kind of thing” he teased, while you sat back in your spot on the couch; the two of you exchanging similar facial expressions and sticking your tongues out at each other.
Bobby had once again succeeded at brightening your day. You don’t know how he did it but being around him seemed to always make you forget all your worries and stresses. It was almost like everything melted away as the meaning of sadness took on an alien form.
You spent the rest of the day just hanging out with each other and talking about all kinds of random topics as the hours flew by. You grabbed food around lunch and later again at dinner time; jamming out in the car on the way there with the stereo in Bobby’s car on high. He was the only person you knew you could genuinely dance with; however the hell you felt like moving. No matter how stupid others probably thought the two of you looked, neither of you ever cared. By the time it got late and you parted ways, you’d completely forgotten about why the day had started off so horribly.
A week later, you found yourself lounging on your couch, surrounded by small takeout boxes of the dinner you’d treated yourself to with B.I., Jinhwan and Bobby. You’d all met up to discuss when they’d stop by your studio to go over Exid’s choreography and ended up stuffing your faces. Each of you shared a good laugh at how hilarious it was that Yang would have no idea you’d be helping them. You’d gotten word that the man had replaced your position less than a week after you told him you wanted to quit so a little scheming behind his back didn’t strike a chord with anyone’s conscience.
“I respect what you do,” my ass.
Your stomach was absolutely filled to capacity at this point in the night and all you could do was lay there, staring at your TV in defeat. Your heart was otherwise entirely content, knowing that in just one week’s time you would be reunited with the rest of the members of iKon.
You were in the middle of readjusting your blankets amongst the Styrofoam boxes when you felt the couch vibrate.
“God damnit.” You muttered to yourself while you sifted through the cushions and blankets, trying to find where your phone had disappeared to. You found it just in time for the last few rings and quickly turned it over to check the ID of the caller.
Your heart skipped a beat as your eyes met Jiyong’s name on your screen. You froze, unintentionally allowing the call to be missed. You stared at it, waiting to see if a voicemail would be left and silently praying to the universe that there wouldn’t be.
The sudden vibration caught you off guard as his name appeared once again in another attempted call. You calmed your racing heart with a deep breath as you brought the phone closer to your face.
With one quick movement, you tapped the left icon on the screen and ignored the call.

What Do YOU Want? Pt. 4
A Kwon Jiyong series ft. Kim Jiwon
Genre: Angst/Fluff
Word count: 2,700+
Summary: The most important person in the world to you can appear most often when you least expect it. But through everything, you can’t forget about you and your own happiness. Who are you happy with? Who is the best for you?
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 ... Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
Tumblr media
You were frozen, listening to the grown men shout at each other. Their voices were muffled and your conscience could not make itself loud enough for you to know whether you should lean an ear directly to the door, walk in and interrupt their yelling, or just walk away altogether.
Reluctantly, you decided on the first option and steadied your breathing enough to gently rest your face against the large double doors leading to Yang’s office. Jiyong was just on the other side of those doors; his body was closer to you than it had been in nearly four months and your heart couldn’t begin to process it. It was difficult to control its rate as you listened to his voice clearly for the first time in so long. There was also no controlling your eyes as they widened upon realizing what they were talking about.
You.
“What did you expect me to do, GD, hmm? Let her perform while you drove yourself insane, obsessing over her the whole night? I knew I couldn’t have you perform under those conditions. It was too much of a risk!”
It wasn’t often that Yang yelled and it was even less often that he yelled at Jiyong. You could probably count on one hand the amount of times you’d ever heard the two of them yelling at one another throughout the entire 3 years that you’ve known him. They were two of the most stubborn and strongest minded people you’ve ever met and hearing them raise their voices towards each other could fill a room with the absolute thickest tension. You could feel it just by being on the other side of those doors, and your spine tingled knowing you were the reason for such a rare moment.
“I’m not a teenage boy; I’m a professional performer. We both are. We would have been completely fine but you refuse to acknowledge that. Did you know I was heartbroken that entire night and obsessed over the thought of her anyway? No, you couldn’t tell now could you? Because I know how to put on a goddamn show despite what I might be going through.”
“You don’t know that. I know you. It would have been so much worse had she been there. The show went fine and nothing else was effected by her absence. Everyone got through it just fine. Get over it.” Yang’s words were like venom and if you weren’t able to hear everything through the doors so clearly, you would have sworn he spit on the ground in front of Jiyong as he said his last sentence.
“YG’s performances that night wouldn’t have existed without her! She works just as hard as the rest of us here and she deserved that stage!”
“I refuse to be spoken to like this from you. I’m not discussing this any further. You may go back to work in the studio.” With the sound of papers shuffling against a desk, you didn’t have to be in that room to know that Jiyong no longer held Yang’s attention.
The sound of quick footsteps approaching still caught you off guard as you removed your face from the doors and drew a few paces back just in time for Jiyong’s exit. He pushed forcefully through both doors and immediately stopped as his eyes locked on you standing before him.
There he was: mouth agape and eyes widened in disbelief as if you were a ghost; an apparition of the former life he once cherished. He wore a dark green flannel, with blue jeans rolled at the ankles, above his favorite pair of black Vans. His jet black hair was disheveled from running his fingers through it over and over again, as he has always done whenever he’s frustrated. He held a black beanie tightly in both of his hands. The large double doors to the office slammed shut behind him and you flinched at the sharp sound while Jiyong’s gaze never left your face.
“Y/N…” He muttered, barely moving his lips as he still couldn’t believe you were truly there in front of him. He paused and looked down as he ran a hand across his face and shook his shoulders in order to pull himself back to reality. “How. Uh. How much of that did you hear?”
“Enough.” That’s all you could get out. You weren’t prepared to see him today and you definitely weren’t prepared to hear everything you just heard. Remembering what you originally came there for, you quickly excused yourself. “Give me a minute. This won’t take long.”
He watched in confusion as you marched past him to open the doors to Yang’s office.
“Y/N, wait! What are you doing?” It took every ounce of energy to ignore Jiyong’s voice that fell to a whisper as you got further from him and closer to Yang’s desk.
You saw the feared CEO; his gaze fixed on a stack of papers in front of him, completely unphased by the sound of footsteps coming closer on the tiled floor.
“I told you I’m through discussing this. I can’t go back in time. What do you want from me GD, I - oh Y/N, well, here you are. I’m assuming you heard most of our discussion just now and know that whatever you’re wanting to say has already been said.” He’d lifted his eyes from the papers long enough to realize you weren’t Jiyong coming back for a last word. Instead he placed a fist under his chin as he leaned on the desk towards you with fake interest.
“Not quite everything; I quit.”
You said the words with no hesitation and the utmost confidence, eyes locked on his. His eyebrows rose in surprise, as he lifted himself and sat back in his chair. With a long sigh, he rubbed his eyes and before he began to say something, you continued.
“This isn’t up for negotiation. I respect you and always have, Yang Hyun Suk. It is clear to me now that the respect has never been mutual and I have invested too much of my own blood, sweat, and tears into this company to let it carry on any further. Consider this my two week notice.” As you spoke the words, a loud crash was heard from the outside hallway.
He just stared at you with wide eyes and a hand propped up on the arm of the desk chair, holding his face. You didn’t give him any more of your time as you turned on your heels and exited the room. The both of you knew there was nothing more to be said.
As you opened the door, you found one of the decorative vases outside of Yang’s office shattered on the ground away from its original place. It was as if someone had swung their arm and flung the piece across the hall. You looked left and right and noticed that Jiyong was no longer in sight.
He must have been listening and heard you announce your decision.
You let an exasperated sigh leave your lips. You had been genuinely ready to speak to him and hoped that he wouldn’t allow his own frustrations to get the best of him. Again. Hearing him speak to Yang had made you begin to think differently of how he’d been feeling this whole time. He was heartbroken that entire night; just like you had been… There was no describing the feeling that came over you upon hearing that news. Maybe he’d put the thought and effort into everything you’d told him about near the end of your relationship like you’d been wanting him to.
You paced in front of the elevator doors as you awaited your trip to the ground floor. You reached for your phone, found Jiyong on your recent call list and tapped his name. You called him three times and got sent to voicemail after the second or third ring each time. He was ignoring you.
What is it about a break up that brings about such cat-and-mouse games? Why must you torment yourselves with wondering what the other person is thinking, but feeling as though you have no place to contact them? Why must there consistently be one of you giving space to the other person who is wanting the exact opposite. With a deep breath, you walked into the elevator and accepted that you probably wouldn’t be hearing from Jiyong for the rest of the day.
It was in the silence of the elevator that everything truly began to set in. Your heart ached from how much you’d missed his gaze, but it hurt more that the moment had passed right before your eyes. You knew you weren’t over him, but you didn’t think that seeing him again would do this to you. Just like that, he was gone again. You brought a hand to your chest and inhaled sharply once the familiar ding resonated within the confined space. It was a true battle to control the tears that wanted so desperately to fall from your eyes.
When the following day had come and gone without a shred of effort at contact from Jiyong, you swallowed back the lump in your throat, knowing he was probably really angry with you and just didn’t want to speak any time soon. But when the entire week passed without a word, you felt the glimpse of hope you’d gotten from looking into his eyes begin to dissipate.
More days passed and before you knew it, your last day of YG had come. This was it: he was going to let you walk away again.
The day had been filled with tears of all kinds, and enough hugs to get you through the next year and a half. But there wasn’t anything that made your heart swell more than the members of iKon who had arranged a surprise for you in the cafeteria at the end of the day.
Bobby had run into the dance studio abruptly, telling you in a serious tone “Y/N! You need to come with me! I think Donghyuk broke his ankle and you’re the only one I could think of to help us right now. Come on!” You matched your face with the concern that covered Bobby’s and followed him as you both rushed through the hallways and up the stairwell. As he led you closer to the cafeteria, Bobby slowed to a walk and turned to look at you with a big smile. Your face twisted in confusion as he reached out and grabbed your hand while the two of you turned the corner into the YG cafeteria.
“Wait, what are you doing? Where’s Donghyuk? We need to get to h…”
“SURPRISE!!!” the other members yelled in unison as they appeared in front of the tables with a cake and a sign that said “We love you Y/N! We’ll miss you!”
You brought your hands to cover your face as you immediately started crying. “Yah! You guys, what are you doing!” you mumbled in between your fingers. Without looking, you extended an arm and shoved Bobby’s shoulder for worrying you. “I should break your ankle for making me think Donghyuk broke his!” He laughed and pulled you in for a hug, while the other boys followed and wrapped you in a mass of arms.
You sat and ate cake with them for the next hour, while you all reminisced through the memories you’d made together just in the past year. You used to think of them as your children, but they’d actually become more like brothers. At a time in your life that had been filled with such heartbreak, knowing that you had them truly made you happy.
You stood up at the head of the table to address them all before you each returned to your days. “Even though I’ll be solely teaching classes at my dance studio from now on, I will always miss working with you guys the most. Keep making me proud and visit me whenever, all right? I love you all! iKon, fighting!” The seven of them erupted in cheers as you all bowed to one another. You thanked them one last time for the amazing surprise and turned to head back to the studio to grab your stuff.
“Y/N! Wait up!” Bobby had parted from the other members and walked towards you while the rest of them headed in the opposite direction.
“Ah, well if it isn’t the liar himself!” You teased, while he laughed and pretended to flinch at your words.
“Before you go, we’ve got to make a deal, ok?” His face was suddenly serious and didn’t break eye contact while he waited for your nod of agreement.
“Mino, B.I., Jinhwan, and I usually go out for food or drinks when we don’t have any schedule issues during the week. Since you’ve gone out with us plenty of times before, we wanted to see if you’d join us during our weekly tradition. That way we know we’ll still have a guaranteed time to see you, you know?”
You smiled ear to ear at his touching offer and agreed enthusiastically. “Of course! I’ll miss you guys too much if I can’t see you on a regular basis all of a sudden. I’m so down. Just hit me up whenever you arrange anything. Cool?”
Bobby clapped a hand to his fist with a big grin on his face as he bowed his head. “Sweet, sounds great.” He tapped the brim of his snapback to you as he turned around and jogged in the direction that the other 6 boys went. “I’ll text you!” he yelled over his shoulder, and just then as you held up a thumb you remembered something: you’d never returned to those texts from the night of the MAMA’s.
Well I’m awful.
You reached for your phone and felt your cheeks immediately flush once you’d opened your conversation with Bobby.
BB: You! We wanted to see you before the show for a group pic! Where you at?
BB: Assuming you’re too busy getting ready. We’re not trying to bug you oh great choreographer!
BB: Well that felt awesome. Did it look awesome? Cuz, we’re looking for you to tell us how awesome we are.
BB: My name’s Bobby and I miss Y/N wahhhhhh
BB: I wish I was as kool as Y/N but I’m justa dumb bunnie
BB: I talk about Y/N allllll theeeee tiiiiime and swear I’m her fav member
BB: My name’s Bobby and I also smell like dirty socks after I get off stage
BB: Y/N srsly where r u I miss u
BB: Shit, Jinhwan and Chanwoo snagged my phone after we found out what happened…that wasn’t me, pleaaase believe me haha…
These guys really were hilarious and you felt so lucky to know them. Maybe Bobby was your favorite member but he was also the one whom you’d grown the closest to so you could picture him actually saying some of these things. He really was a silly bunny, just like their fans liked to call him. You found yourself rereading the messages while you packed all your things from the studio and began to head out and end your final day as an employee of YG Entertainment.
You put your phone back in your pocket as you walked through the hall of the first floor, taking the time to actually admire all the art and awards on the walls. To say this moment was bittersweet would be a drastic understatement.
With the front doors in sight, you took a deep breath. “Well, this is it.” As you reached for one of the handles, a familiar voice by the front stairwell caught your attention.
“Y/N. Leaving so soon?” You turned unenthusiastically; knowing the voice did not belong to the person you’d hope it would and looked Yang in the eye.
“Well. It seems my time here is over.” You spoke shortly; cautious for what he was about to say.
“Mmm. Indeed. Y/N, I want you to know something. At the end of the day, no matter what you or anyone else believes: I respect what you do. I know you’ll do well with whatever opportunities come your way. I’m sure we’ll see each other again in the future.” He ended his address with a bow.
You were so caught off guard by the response that you couldn’t say anything. All you could do was bow in return. He nodded his head and ascended up the stairwell, while you turned back to the doors in disbelief.
You let out a sigh and stood there for a minute more, waiting for a moment you knew would never come. As you took one last look back at the empty hallway and saw no one coming, you pushed through the doors and left the only place that held any last ties between you and Kwon Jiyong.

What Do YOU Want? Pt. 3
Part 1 Part 2 ... Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
Tumblr media
It felt as though the entire planet had fallen off its axis while you lay in your bed, staring at the ceiling fan, completely immobilized by the imbalance. You could feel your heart beating inside your ears, while you had to remind yourself of the need to blink.
There, on your phone screen, were the missed calls, voicemails, and unread text messages of Bobby, whom you had already expected to contact you once he and the rest of the members of iKon realized you weren’t at the show. But it was the other person whose number appeared that was truly capturing your attention, as they have done since the moment you met; Kwon Jiyong.
2 text messages and 3 missed calls belonged to him and they had you rendered completely catatonic. You couldn’t think straight long enough to even unlock your phone. Instead, you placed it face down on your chest while you continued to stare at the ceiling and took three deep breaths. The one person you’d successfully avoided and had only just begun to stop thinking about how they’d broken your heart so slowly and painfully, was attempting to contact you. As you breathed, you tried your best to mentally prepare for whatever awaited you behind the lock screen.
Your intuition told you that the remaining 13 missed calls, 9 text messages and all 5 voicemails belonging to Bobby were because you were certain he was the only member of iKon that had your phone number. You had a feeling the other members had pestered him to contact you to figure out where you were, as the number of notifications was quite surprising. Stalling on checking what Jiyong had to say, you temporarily regained control of your sanity and decided to listen to all the voicemails.
Your suspicions were confirmed as each voicemail played back with the sounds of 7 young men yelling over each other, attempting to take turns in asking where their favorite choreographer was. You could feel your heart start to melt as they managed to get a giggle out of you with their nonsense. But it wasn’t long before the guilt set back in. Especially once you heard the fifth voicemail from a very tired, most likely post-performance Bobby.
“Y/N, we uh, just saw Parris and she told us you aren’t here. And that it had been actually decided a while ago. Sorry to bother you with all the messages and stuff. I’m sorry, I should have assumed you wouldn’t want to be here sine…yeah, I’m sorry again. Uh we’ll see you at rehearsal.”
You threw your phone down on the bed. The alcohol was still in your system and that was the only explanation you gave yourself for the tears that immediately proceeded to fall. The members of iKon surely had an amazing night regardless, but you know that you let them down. You should have just told them when you found out that you wouldn’t be there for them in person. You know that you should have.
As you took a few minutes to wipe your tears and think about the apology you would give them next week, the notification symbol above your messages redirected your attention to everything you’d been avoiding. With a deep breath, you decided to look at Bobby’s texts later and set your focus back on the three text messages from the man who once called you his.
Why would Jiyong try to contact you? The two of you haven’t spoken in nearly two months and he chooses tonight of all nights to call? The night that he and Yang are responsible for ruining? What if he had just been waiting to tell you how much better the show was without you there? He probably barely would have noticed a difference even if you had been there as his girlfriend.
He probably just needed some kind of YG pertinent information. Just business.
You restored balance to your mind by assuring his intentions were purely work-related and unlocked your phone to his messages in one quick movement, like a band aid.
J: Parris told us you’re not here? Is that true?
J: Well I didn’t see you at the stage rehearsal and you’re not in the lineup getting ready to go on right now so I guess it’s true.
J: I know how much you’ve been looking forward to this. I don’t know what happened but I’m so sorry, Y/N.
All you felt was anger. How could he sit there, contacting you for the first time in months, on this night and act like he’s not the reason behind your absence? He really had some nerve. You checked the timing on each missed call and realized they both had come in one after the other, just around the same time of CL and 2NE1’s stage; the one you were supposed to be on. In that moment, fingers moving faster than your mind could process, you tapped on the call icon next to Jiyong’s name.
Your heartrate increased with each ring as you silenced every voice urging you to hang up immediately and instead prepared to give him a piece of your mind.
“Y/N?” he answered with surprise evident in his voice.
“Oh try not to act too happy to hear from me, Jiyong. You’re really giving yourself away.” You regained control of your body and sat up in your bed. You’d been waiting nearly two months to address him about all of this and there was no way you’d hold back on the sass now.
There was a pause, while the phone line filled with silence. “…what?” he muttered, quite believably confused by your words.
“Don’t do this to me right now, don’t play that mind game. I talked to Yang last month and I know he didn’t make this move on his own. He hasn’t cared for how we are around each other in nearly two years, because he knows we’re both professionals, so why the hell would he care now? I know why. Because his precious child, G-Dragon, didn’t want to have to share a stage with me regardless of how badly I wanted this performance. Why has it always been about you and your career and your life? You know I had three stages tonight with my choreography featured? Yeah, it was great to have to watch it all from my living room couch, by the way. I should have known this would happen because you’ve alw-“
“Y/N!” Jiyong’s raised voice cuts you off as you realize he’d been trying to talk over you during the bulk of your rant. “Y/N please, will you just listen to me?”
“What? Why the hell should I listen to you right now? You don’t care about me, why should I care about you?”
“Y/N, I didn’t know, all right? Yang didn’t tell me anything about this. He’s been making some pretty shifty decisions recently that I don’t particularly agree with but this…Y/N please believe me, I had no idea. I thought you would be here and that I would see you. We’d been looking forward to this all year and yeah, I was nervous about seeing you again, but at the same time I was so excited…how could you think I would agree to this? I’ve always known how much it’s meant to you. You really must actually think I don’t care.” Jiyong’s voice trails off and the line fills with silence once more. You were speechless.
“Y/N? Y/N, are you still there?” he says after a few more moments of no answer.
“I have to go.” You say under your breath as you gaze forward at the door to your bedroom, gripping your phone tightly. Jiyong attempted to protest, but you hang up the phone before he could get out more than two words.
There was no processing this. Jiyong was a lot of things, but a liar was not one of them. Your cheeks reddened with embarrassment for allowing your liquid courage to get the better of you and vent so much to him. But your mind immediately focused on the bigger picture; it was all Yang.
Yang Hyun Suk had hired you after seeing you work with Parris Goebel after hours at your studio. Jiyong and you had been in a relationship for around six months at the time and he had spoken highly of you to his superior, knowing the amazing opportunity that could be presented to you. He had decided to contact the CEO and have him make a guest appearance to your private collaboration with the choreographer who had already worked successfully with other YG artists in the past. Minimal words were exchanged, but after seeing the two of you work and dance so well together, Yang hired you to choreograph alongside Parris and eventually hired you to work solo, as a permanent contributor to YG.
As a business man, Yang didn’t care at all for your relationship with his top artist. It grew difficult to hold your tongue around him on many occasions, as the two of you exchanged your share of harsh words over the past couple of years. The man who was feared by so many, was one of the only people you grew capable of sticking up for yourself around. That is, until he had delivered the biggest pill to swallow yet, concerning the MAMA’s. After hiring you to be a permanent choreographer, it was clear that he had thought highly of you.
But evidently, he did not respect you.
The following Monday, you walked into the YG building with the determination and focus equivalent to that of an Olympic diver. You passed several people you knew in the halls, greeting none of them, and made your way straight to the dance studios. You dropped your bag and immediately pulled your phone out to call the only person who’s been at the top of your mind for the past five days.
“Yes, Y/N?” Yang answered, with his usual tone of voice that sounded like you were already wasting his time.
“I need to speak with you when you are available.” You spoke the words as professional and straightforward as possible. He liked that.
“I’ll be back in my office at 5.” He hung up before you could even agree. He was making this easier than he knew.
You carried on the day like any other, and rehearsed with the groups of trainees on the choreography you’d taught them the previous week. Though you were looking forward to meeting with Yang and telling him exactly what was on your mind, you’d been anxious for 3 o’ clock as well.
B.I. led the members into the studio just in time for their usual rehearsal. You greeted them and their humorously pouty expressions, while you took your spot at the front in “I bet you’re wondering why I’ve brought you all here today” fashion.
“We thought you loved us Y/N!” Jinhwan was the more dramatic of the boys as he was the first to say something, but you could tell there was a light heartedness to his outburst. The other members laughed slightly as they waited for you to respond with an explanation.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you guys last Wednesday like I said I would be. Something came up that made for CEO Yang and me to agree that it would be best that I was not there. I wanted to tell all of you, but I didn’t want to add any kind of stress to your weeks leading up to the MAMA’s which were already stressful enough. With that being said, I still watched your performance from my living room and I want to say how incredibly proud I am of all of you. You guys absolutely crushed it. You’ve grown so much and it definitely showed on that stage. I wish I could have been there to accept a group hug from you all, but you should know that I was with you in spirit. You guys are going to do something truly amazing together and I can’t wait to see it all unfold. Thank you for letting me teach you this past year; it has truly been an honor.” You bowed and the boys all clapped and cheered dramatically.
“Yah, Y/N, why do you have to go and make this Monday so emotional!” Yunhyeong exclaimed while everyone else laughed.
“I’m sorry! Let’s get on with the rehearsal and run through the routines you’re incorporating into upcoming concerts.” And just like that, all the guilt that had been eating at you over the past month or so completely vanished.
As the two hours went by, you noticed that out of all the members, Bobby had been saying the least; which was very unusual for him. As rehearsal came to an end and you were thanking them each for a solid job, you decided to speak to him before your meet with Yang. Who cares if that man had to wait ten minutes?
“Hey, Bobby! Do you have a minute?” Almost to the door, he turned and nodded his head with a big smile on his face and walked over to your spot by the mirror.
While the other members filed out, Jinhwan yelled in your direction “Ooh Y/N! Did you like the texts Bobby sent you on Wednesday?”
You had completely forgotten about his texts that night. You’d opened the conversation but never read them because you had set your sights on reading Jiyong’s texts first. And you know what all happened after that.
“Yah! Shut up! She knows you and Chanwoo sent those! Don’t you have somewhere to be?” Bobby yelled quickly in Jinhwan’s direction as he exited the studio, embarrassment clear in his voice.
“Oh man, I actually never got around to reading those, I’m sorry.” You said with a confused, but amused smile on your face.
“Sweet. Don’t!” Bobby smiled back and widened his eyes with fake seriousness. “So what’s up? What did you want to tell me?”
You’re not entirely sure why, but right then you told Bobby everything the happened for the MAMA’s. You told him about Yang calling you in his office in November, and about how you assumed it had been a plan between him and Jiyong. You also told him how you found out it was all Yang’s idea in the end.
Bobby’s face contorted into a look of anger that doesn’t often appear on him. “Are you serious? He changed it just so you wouldn’t perform? That’s bullshit, Y/N, I’m so sorry. You deserve to be on that stage just as much as anyone else does. Hell, more than some people.”
“Thank you for saying so. I really appreciate that. But I wanted to tell you about this, because I’m actually about to go meet with Yang right now.” You took a deep breath as you were about to say the words out loud that you had only thought to yourself every day until this very moment.
“I’m going to be putting my two weeks in for YG. I’m quitting.”
His face grew sad as he stared back at you, not knowing how to properly respond just yet. The two of you stood in silence for a moment until he cracked a small smile and put a firm hand on your shoulder. “You know what, Y/N? Good. You deserve to be respected for all the work that you put in. We’ll miss seeing you all the time. I know I’ll miss you. But if this is what will make you happy then do it. Just don’t be a stranger ok? Keep in touch.”
“Oh of course! We can still go out for lunch or dinner and hang out whenever just as we have been doing. I just won’t be your choreographer anymore. Thank you for understanding and supporting this. It helps. Now. If you’ll excuse me, I’m off to see the wizard.”
He laughed at your lame joke and put on that big smile that had grown on you over the past year. “Good luck and let me know how it all goes. I’ll see you tomorrow, Y/N!”
The two of you exited the studio and walked down the hallway in opposite directions. You got in the elevator and stood with your hands behind your back as you mentally prepared yourself in silence during the trip up.
As you exited the elevator and approached his office, you stopped in your tracks at the sound of voices. The sound of yelling voices. You leaned into the door to hear who was in there and couldn’t help the gasp that escaped your lips when you recognized who was having a shouting match with the CEO of YG.
Jiyong.
