How did you/your family choose the dogs' names? And decide which kinds of dogs to get? I love all of them, please wish Moishe a happy birthday!
oh well it is different for each dog. Ella is from a private foster, Blue is from a breeder, Glimmer is from a breeder, Maisy is from a shelter/rescue, and Moses wound up on our property at ~7 weeks old after walking all the way across a huge cow pasture and fording a creek because he heard my mom and Lambchop in our pasture making noises. he's also from a breeder technically lol

Song of the Day #14:
'Luck of the Draw' by Bonnie Raitt (released 1991).
These things we do to keep the flame burnin'
And write our fire in the sky
Another day to see the wheel turnin'
Another avenue to try
Track 11 on 'Luck of the Draw'.
Fun fact: Raitt dedicated this album to blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, who died in 1990 and had encouraged her to stop abusing alcohol, writing: 'still burning bright'.*
Personal blurb: Do you ever have a song you default to singing when your mind settles comfortably into routine? 'Nick of Time' is one of the (many) songs I default to. I call it a 'background song' because it feels like an ingrained part of me, akin to a background. Something that is always there, humming in corners. On this same album, 'I Can't Make You Love Me' has a similar impact (you may know the version covered by Bon Iver).
I was raised with this album, and when I first heard 'Have A Heart' again, it felt like coming home.
I love the storytelling in 'Luck of the Draw'. It makes me think of the ways in which we keep trying, keep giving because we love it. It speaks to the way creativity is equivalent to breathing. It makes me think of 'La La Land' for the hungry desperation and the need to keep trying. It also makes me think of Dodie's '6/10' which tells the story of someone trying to break into the industry and being crippled by their own self-doubt:
Dodie is such a fun artist. I've been lucky enough to see her twice in concert and she exercises a unique skill in bringing the crowd together, even inviting us to embrace the strangers next to us (there is something so beautiful in hugging a person whose tears match your own when there is no context, but much understanding). For this song, she asked people to submit recordings of them singing 'I know that you don't want me here' and used the recordings in her production of this song.
At this rate, I'm including so many songs this might as well be 'Songs of the Day'. Ah well; the joys of emotional connection: we get to enjoy every tangent.
I love the concept of 'writ[ing] fire into the sky'. It makes me think of this line from Eileen Myles' poem: 'Peanut Butter'.
'I
write because
I would like
to be used for
years after
my death.'

Pepper drawing herself and Butters as Dinosaurs...
She's a t-rex like Baxter and Butters is a triceratops like his wrestler persona. Just imagine a big, scary but soft and shy t-rex and her triceratops bestie who charges with his horns at anyone who makes fun of her. She'd probably draw them as young dinosaurs though and have them go on an adventure like in The Land Before Time.
