Applesauce Doughnuts with Buttermilk These were made by my mother when I was a young girl. We would adore helping her and, of course, devouring them later. Sprinkle with cinnamon, granulated sugar, or powdered sugar. Delicious! 1/2 cup buttermilk, 3/4 cup white sugar, 2 eggs, 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon ground mace, 2 tablespoons butter softened, 3/4 cup applesauce, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 quarts canola oil for deep frying

Monterey Donut looks like any old school neighborhood donut shop: tables with benches, lottery tickets for sale, display cases filled with standard donuts, barebones décor. The floor looks newer though. I went in the afternoon and they seemed to be sold out of muffins, bagels and croissants (I didn’t see any). Go early for the best selection.
They had your basic raised donuts, bars, twists, old-fashioned, crullers, donut holes, etc. Donuts start at $1. A dozen donuts is $15.
Buttermilk bar ($1.50): Extra crispy edges but still moist, soft, and fluffy interior. Enjoyed the different textures. Could taste a bit of buttermilk but also some of the frying oil.
Crumb donut ($1.40): The cinnamon masked the taste of the oil. Good cake donut – bigger than most places, fluffy and not too sweet. The crumbs were slightly crispy.
Donut holes: Raised donuts, very light glaze. The donut holes were soft and fresh. Surprised how light the glaze was. Not that sweet!
She was nice enough to include a two free donut holes. Their donuts are larger than other places and the prices are so reasonable. The shop is in a strip mall with easy parking.

Romanian Cuisine
So, the beginning of the month I had the pleasure to spend 8th of March with some friends in Romania and while trying their traditional kitchen I came up with the idea to create some dishes for our Sims to enjoy some delicious Romanian food too! I hope you enjoy it!
Mămăligă - polenta made out of yellow maize flour. Historically a peasant food, it was often used as a substitute for bread or even as a staple food in the poor rural areas.
Ostropel - typical Romanian stew that is primarily made from chicken mixed with a thick tomato sauce. Additionally, garlic or spring onions can be added to the dish. 
Tochitură - traditional Romanian and Moldovan dish made from pork cut into small cubes. It is traditionally served with over-easy  eggs and mămăligă.
Tochitură de Pui - Tochitură but instead of pork cuts is made with chicken.
Joffre Cake - chocolate buttermilk layer cake filled with chocolate ganache and frosted with chocolate buttercream originally created at Bucharest's Casa Capșa restaurant, shortly after WWI.
Papanași - doughnut-shaped with the doughnut hole on top traditionally fried or boiled, they are served covered in crème fraîche, and topped with sour cherries or jam.
Gogoși - sweet pastries similar to filled doughnuts that are deep-fried in oil and optionally dusted with icing sugar.
Zmeurată - alcoholic beverage produced from raspberry, sugar and alcohol.
Socată - soft drink made from the flowers of the elderberry shrub.  It may be non-alcoholic or, usually, low-alcoholic, and can be  carbonated or non-carbonated, depending on the fermentation type and  duration.
