Saint Francis of Assisi
Saint Francis of Assisi is a well-known name in the Western world. He was the topic of numerous paintings between the 14th and 17th centuries, although his popularity has since dwindled. Most people only know Saint Francis’ name or regard him as a saint that liked animals. After looking at Saint Francis’ life in detail, it is clear he was much more than an animal enthusiast. Giovanni di Pietro…

TERRACE SHOPHOUSES: JUNCTION ST. NORTH SYDNEY. 1926.
“A wonderful view of a small North Sydney shopping strip with residences above, at 35-47 Junction Street in North Sydney. This from a time people shopped locally, walking to the local store with carry bag in hand.
These buildings nor indeed the street, exist today. The shop nearest the camera is a Butcher Shop. Among the advertised specials are Pork Chops at 9d (Ninepence) a pound, and legs of Mutton (aged lamb) at 6d a pound.
Two shops up, with a horse-drawn Milk Cart out front is a Smallgoods shop (Delicatessen) and Milk Bar. Note the milk can on the footpath. At this time, before bottled milk, milk deliveries were made directly from the can, ladled into a customer’s billy can.
Just a few years after this shot was taken, and coinciding with the 1932 opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the streetscape around the lower north shore suburbs of Milson’s Point, Kirribilli and North Sydney changed to facilitate the rearranged traffic flow.”

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article
