Jaeger Piloting 101: How Rangers Get Into The Thing & Other Basic Stuff
Hello Pacific Rim fans, today I am doing a post on the topic of how rangers get into the conn-pod, and take control of the Jaeger, plus do a quick look at conn-pod interiors in general! I'll be using pictures sourced from movie-screencaps.com to illustrate the process.
Before I proceed, I'd like to remind folks that Lady Danger's canonical name contains a racial slur. It will be depicted here in screenshots, but I encourage fans to use the name "Lady Danger" in casual conversation, fanfiction etc. It doesn't matter if the name was referencing an old engine, it doesn't matter if no harm was intended by it; a slur's a slur.
Before the rangers enter the conn-pod, they must first suit up. This isn't something they can do on their own - they have a dedicated team of assistant techs to help them into their drivesuits. As we can see here, Raleigh and Yancy Becket's team have the name of their jaeger printed on the backs of their jumpsuits:
Tumblr media
If you read my earlier post on jaegers, you know that drivesuits come in two layers. Here's Raleigh and Yancy already wearing the first layer, while one of their technicians assists:
Tumblr media
Next, the technicians help them into the drivesuit's second, armored layer. On the right side of the first image is the area where the drivesuits are kept when not in use:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then we have this thing that's pulled out of a special storage box and put over the spinal area, connecting the back of the armor together:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see Yancy and Raleigh pull on their helmets, and this strange liquid drains out. (It makes me think of the orange juice Raleigh was drinking earlier.) It's not clear how common this feature is, but we know it's not universal - the refurbished Lady Danger doesn't have this, and Cherno Alpha's helmets don't look it would even be possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up, the pilots enter the conn-pod. Note those two light gray things on the floor in the first picture; that's part of the Pilot Motion Rig. Also note the dark gray things hanging from the ceiling in the second picture; that's also part of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once the pilots step into the bottom part of Pilot Motion Rig, metal clamps lock their feet into place. On the right, Raleigh is already locked in; on the left, Yancy is not yet locked in:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, more technicians help pilots get into the upper part of the Pilot Motion Rig.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point, something magical and wonderful absolutely terrifying else happens: the floor pulls away, leaving the pilots standing like:
Tumblr media
If you look down once the floor's pulled back, it's uh. Quite the view.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the case of Lady Danger, a nuclear-powered Mark-3, this is where technicians drop the head to connect it to the body. (The head is stored separately to reduce radiation exposure that might damage the delicate circuits.)
At this point, the Beckets are looking at this in front of them:
Tumblr media
As the head connects, the pilot-to-pilot protocol is engaged, the computer system fires up, and the Beckets see a LOADING screen:
Tumblr media
In the Anchorage Shatterdome, Lady Danger was wheeled out through a door on a rolling platform. At this point, the neural handshake was activated with a countdown of fifteen seconds.
The neural link is established, and you got two people in control of a Jaeger!
From here, stuff often depends on the specific jaeger, as control systems can be pretty different. For example, we see Raleigh and Yancy holding these round things in the arms they're controlling at the beginning of the film, but the refurbished Lady Danger doesn't seem to use them, and neither do the other jaegers.
Tumblr media
I'd also like to contrast Cherno Alpha's drivesuits with Lady Danger's drivesuits for a moment, just to emphasize how different designs can be. As you can see, each pilot's drivesuit has cables connected to the arm they're controlling:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also as I was looking at pictures of jaeger interiors, I noticed something curious about Lady Danger vs. Striker Eureka.
The original Lady Danger has a high console like this:
Tumblr media
The refurbished Lady Danger has one positioned lower:
Tumblr media
Striker Eureka has both a high and low console:
Tumblr media
So make of that what you will, lol.
And that's the basics of boarding and controlling a jaeger! If you haven't seen it already I also recommend checking out my other post on jaeger lore, where I compiled everything I could find out about them from various Pacific Rim medias. And you might also read Drifting, as conceptualized by Travis Beacham if you're interested in knowing more about the drifting aspect, and maybe Drift Hangover Lore if the possibility of sentient jaegers appeals to you.
Happy monster punching, or whatever it is you people do out there. *Slinks back into the bog*

Hey, do you want to learn how to play VHS tapes in the year 202X?
Tumblr media
I know this is my art blog, but it has come to my attention that some of you are too young to have experienced the joys of the Video Home System in its prime. Come hither so I can teach you and we can embrace the beauty of physical media together. If you have a thrift store and a TV, this process should work for you.
Step 1: Get a VCR ($4-$15)
DO NOT BUY EXPENSIVE VCR/COMBO SETS FROM THE INTERNET!
The ones you find on sites like eBay and Etsy are insanely overpriced and might not even work. Instead, find a Goodwill, Savers, or independent thrift store near you and go to the electronics section. There’s a good chance they’ll have at least one VCR. If they don’t, try a different shop. You can also check local online marketplaces, yard sales, etc.
Good things to look for:
4 (or more) Heads — Heads are the things that actually read the tape. The more heads you have, the better your picture is going to be.
Auto Tracking — Poor tracking can create a rolling picture, which is a pain to fix. An auto tracking VCR does that work for you.
Pre-2000 — After 2000, electronics started being mass produced with plastic casings and cheap parts. VCRs made after this time are a whole lot easier to break. Ideally, you want something from the late 80s to mid 90s.
Well-known brands — Sony, Toshiba, etc. Japanese manufacturers tend to have the best quality. Early Emersons are nice too.
Generally good condition — If there’s a bullet hole in the case, it’s probably best to pass on. A bit of dust isn’t an issue, but major damage isn’t a good sign. If you can, plug the machine into a power outlet in the store and see if it even turns on.
Head cleaning indicator — Not something you *need*, but I find it nice to have. You’ll want to use a head cleaning tape when the indicator starts flashing.
Tumblr media
This is the one I’ll be using for the sake of this guide. This is an old Emerson that I picked up from Goodwill for $7.95. (Notice the five price tags they slapped on top.)
Step 2: Get Some Tapes (¢10-$1)
This is the fun part. Almost every thrift store will have some VHS tapes, usually near the books/DVDs/records. I’ve seen them as expensive as a dollar, but some stores will just give them away for free. I suggest buying a few movies you like, plus one or two shitty tapes to test out your VCR with.
Tumblr media
You may also find 20 different copies of Titanic in every store. This is a normal occurance.
Tumblr media
Remember to check the condition of any tape you plan on putting in your machine. If the spool looks moldy, you *can* try to clean it, but you’ll need another VCR to do so. If the tape looks wrinkled or otherwise damaged, you can still probably play it, but it will look and sound a lot rougher than you should expect. If the casing is damaged, I wouldn’t risk trying to put it in your VCR at all.
Remember: VHS tapes stopped being produced commercially in 2006. Most tapes you find aren’t going to be in the best shape, because they’re all a few decades old. (Sometimes, though, you will come across a tape with an excellent picture, good sound quality, and subtitles! The Mummy tape that I own is near perfect.)
Step 3: Connecting the VCR to Your TV
For this step, you’re going to want a coaxial cable and a set of RCA cables (the red, yellow, and white ones). If your TV doesn’t have an RCA input, you’ll also need an RCA-to-HDMI converter. If your TV also doesn’t have an HDMI input for whatever reason, you’re shit out of luck.
Tumblr media
You’ll plug these cables into the “out” or “out to tv” connection on your VCR, then plug the other end into the back of your TV.
Note: Not all VCRs have right audio (the red one)! That’s fine. Just leave it hanging free. The left audio (white) is your mono audio, so you’ll just have that instead.
Lastly, put the channel switch on the back of your VCR on 3 or 4. I keep mine on 3. This is the number for the channel you’ll go to on your TV to actually see what the VCR is playing.
Step 4: Setting up the TV
I use a little Roku TV, which is surprisingly steady to set up for VCR input:
Settings ➡️ TV Inputs ➡️ Live TV
From here, you’ll either be prompted to scan for channels OR you’ll have to select “scan for antenna channels”. It will ask you if you want to have channels 3 and 4, to which you’ll say “yeah, I do want channels 3 and 4” and click the button that lets you have channels 3 and 4. If you don’t have an antenna, you can skip the other prompts.
I haven’t done this on any other type of TV, but the process should be pretty similar: get yourself to channels 3 and 4 through whatever means necessary.
Once you’re there, it should look like this. Sad, blank, and lonely. But not for long.
Tumblr media
Step 5: Playing Your Tapes
This is where things can go really really well or really really wrong. If everything is hooked up, you can grab your shitty tape and insert it into the VCR.
(Make sure there isn’t anything else in there first, though. Some people don’t remove their precious Titanic copies before donating these things.)
Tumblr media
You’ll want a tape that’s fairly clean, with no casing damage, and already rewound (black tape in the left window). To insert the tape into a front-loading VCR, slowly and firmly slide it into the slot. Once it’s most of the way in, the machine should “grab” it and pull it all the way inside. You’ll hear the machine make some noises.
(If those noises are really crunchy, that’s probably not a good thing. Troubleshoot with your favorite search engine or head over to r/VHS to see if anyone can help you.)
Once your machine is only making some clunky whirring sounds, it should be safe to press the play button. Enjoy watching your favorite films in the least pleasant format possible. Don’t forget to rewind em when you’re done.
Tumblr media
If you have issues, the freaks over at r/VHS tend to be really helpful, but you can also find decade-old YouTube videos that might answer your questions too.

20 (intrusive) questions re: "what is your favorite memory" and "do you believe in ghosts" asked by @lyrslair & @motheroftorches
Some years ago mom was visiting me in China and requested a tour to the most "truely hardcore, authentic and impressive place" that was possible at the moment, and so we went to Udang Mountains. The place is older than infamous Shaolin, but less crowded because of the complex accessibility and harsh climate.
Tumblr media
It's a taoist monastery complex built in the mountain forest about 1600-2000m altitude, connected with a system of ancient stairs and pathways. It's possible to rent a guest house inside the park or tea farm down near the mountain and hang around as much as you want.
Tumblr media
So one beautiful day we got distracted with all the gorgeous views around and stuck at the top, the cable car was already shut down. We presumptuously decided to descend to the village at the foot of the mountain by ourselves...
Tumblr media
Weather in the mountains of central China can be treacherous and prone to abrupt change. Dusk came quicker than we expected, it got cold and we realized we chose the wrong stairway and got lost somewhere in the forest on our way down. It was getting BAD. Mom was scared, I was upset, and we both got extremely tired.
Tumblr media
When we stopped to fix the gear and stick some patches on our burning feet, we heard some rustling among the trees and fluffy white dog stepped out on the path, wagging its tail. He looked surprisingly clean and well-kempt for a stray forest dog and acted extremely friendly. For the next several hours he was patiently leading the way, looking back at us from time to time, waiting for us on the road splits and steep slopes. As if he knew what he was doing very well, because eventually we saw the lights of village down at the distance.
We thanked our furry hero endlessly. He refused to eat the sausage I had in the backpack, but let us pet him. I also took some pics of him with my DSLR cam. When we quickly stopped by the little roadside store to get a him a real treat and then returned, the dog disappeared.
Tumblr media
Noone of the locals knew who the dog belonged to, and stray dogs were actually not allowed in the park because of its natural reserve status. But next day one grandma showed me an old little shrine of local deity, Erlang. Guess who I saw there?
Tumblr media
All the pictures I took of him that night turned out to be overexposed, just a blurry ball of white fur 😊 and I never had blurry pictures before that.
His name is XiaoTian, 哮天犬, Celestial Dog. You can google him, there actually a lot of funny legends.
Thanks for reading! Man, do I have a lot of stories to tell.

Japan Day 6 Hakone!
Today we traveled to a mountain town called Hakone.
We got to see mt Fuji on the train and honestly the train ride of just having a full two hours to sit and not do anything was really nice
Tumblr media
Then we saw an ad for the Hakone open air muesuem and it was really cool! Highlights including the foot bath, giant fried egg that you could stand on, a stained glass tower, a hilarious interactive display where they put your face on a digital artwork in the museum background and a Picasso room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then got to take a gondola up to the mountain top and down to the lake where we got to take a pirate ferry boat across!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then after some brief chaos with the bus system (it just never came) and taking a taxi (that also went to the wrong place at first) we finally got to check in at the Ryoken and enjoy our private onsen. We also got to enjoy this many courses traditional dinner. There was a lot of sea food and my boyfriend kept trying to get me to keep trying it so I didn’t have the best time. But the non sea food parts were very good and everything was super pretty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overly long and tmi travel diary
We get up early to catch a two hour train to Hakone. My tummy is just a little a bit upset this morning. Between travel, stress, being on my period, and lots of new food it’s been through a lot. I also feel like I haven’t been pooping enough. But they could just be not eating enough for how much walking we’ve been doing.
The train is really nice and we get some lovely views of the sun rising over the mountains. I update my travel diary, take a nap and then we get to see a view mt Fuji through the window. It is impressively taller than everything else around it.
We transfer to a smaller train and then a another mountain train. And then it’s a cable car.
5000 yen for Hakone free pass for transit. I am down to 1000 yen in cash. (Really 3000 as I later find another 2000 yen note in my pocket that I didn’t see before)
5000 yen for Hakone free pass for transit. I am down to 1000 yen in cash. (Really 3000 as I later find another 2000 yen note in my pocket that I didn’t see before)
We see an ad for Hakone open air museum and decide to get off a stop early and go see it. (I think I paid by credit card, 1200 yen each including a 200 yen discount from our Hakone passes).
The museum has a couple galleries where you can’t take pictures (although my bf tried) but mostly it’s big outdoor sculptures. There’s a fun star maze and some garden areas, and the whole place is set up with a great view of the surrounding mountains. I love the Picasso room. I hadn’t realized he did so many ceramics. We stop at a foot bath where we get a towel out of a vending machine for 100 yen. It’s small but a surprisingly nice towel and is branded to make it a souvenir. There’s a big tower made of stained glass that’s really fun. And a fried egg sculpture that you can stand on! I deeply love getting to stand on or interact with art.
After the museum we go grab lunch at a little road side restaurant. Ignoring the delightful ninja cafe next door full of authentic delicacies such as spaghetti and ninja ice cream.
Foot bath and a vending machine towel for 100 yen from Anthony
I get pork ginger and rice for lunch in the card.
After lunch we take the ropeway (hanging cable car) to the top of the mountain. On the side of the mountain are a bunch of thermal vents venting steam. You can see the yellow sulfur deposits around it. Supposedly you can get a black egg cooked in the sulfur water that adds seven years to your life, but we don’t get it.
We spend a little time at the top looking at the mountain and then head down the other ropeway to the lake. And then we get to ride a pirate ship!
The pirate ship we get is called queen ashinoko and is gold and red. We take it across the lake. I love all the sights and being on a boat and my bf tolerates it and enjoys the view. It does get a little chilly but is otherwise a delight. I see a lady take a bunch of silly titantic esque photos on one of the interior balconies. Sometimes it’s such a delight to watch other people live their best lives.
After the ferry we try to get on a bus to go to our hotel but it’s super delayed and the lines are insane so we give up and hail a taxi. Anthony impresses the taxi drive with his handful of Japanese and good pronociation and they have a good chat. The taxi ride ends up being just shy of 5000 yen which is more than I thought it would be (and we get a little turned about by the directions. Anthony gave the hotel name but written in English and just said like Japanese so we go to a bit of the wrong place first and then have to give the actual address which gets us to the right place.
We head into the rykone and They take your shoes and give slippers. The ryokan has a very traditional feel. We are shown where our private onsen will be and then to our rooms. Our rooms have yakata (?)robes in them to wear around. Mine is pink and my bfs is blue. They both have blue overcoats. We head down to the onsen before dinner. The sun is starting to set and the view is really pretty. The leaves are mostly either green or fallen but it’s still so peaceful. We shower first in the attached shower and then step into the sulphuric mineral water. It’s so cloudy and so hot but also feels so good. It would be better if it were like five degrees cooler but it’s still lovely. We hang out for a bit stepping in and out to cool off as needed. They’ve also put a thermos jug of cold water which is perfect.
We rinse back off and head back to our room for dinner.
Dinner will be served in our room and is a traditional set meal.
It starts with appetizers and is mostly fish which makes me sad. I knew this was likely that I wouldn’t like a good portion of it but it still makes me sad. The plates and the way everything is presented is so lovely. I try to focus on how fun it is and not how gross all the fish is. I get talked into trying a piece of the raw tuna and it’s awful. I also try a piece of sushi, the first bite is okay but when I take the second bite I realize that the first bite had way less fish in it and I Gag a little and almost throw up. I also try one of the little fish eggs since my bf claims they are mostly salty and not fishy. False. Very false and very gross. Combined with new and questionable vegetables I’m way past my limit of new food. Luckily there are some things that I like too. There’s a beef dish that is so delicious and comes with the cutest little wedge of cheese.
There’s also a hot pot like thing with pork and milk that is so cool and delicious.
We get sweet pudding for dessert.
After dessert we go have more onsen time. It’s fun to be in it at night with it being all dark. Unfortunately it’s too hot to really cuddle in the onsen which bums we out.
We head back up to the room and watch Japanese tv before bed. We get to see some sumo wrestling, a cooking show and some weird childrens tv show. I get a little sad because I had such high expectations for this part of the trip and then I didn’t get to cuddle or do more than cuddle and didn’t like a lot of the food.
It’s a traditional style hotel room so it has two twin beds. We push them together(I push mine into his) but it’s not really what I wanted. I take a moment to cry a little in the bathroom and I feel a bit better. It’s hard when you feel disappointed in something you feel like you should really be enjoying.

If people would just take a step back, they would have realized that the apartment from the videos is structurally different from JK's apartment. He's been doing numerous long weverse lives and walks around. You can basically have a 360-degree view of the interior of his place.
There are similarities but there also inconsistencies. I've also considered that it might be him when I first saw those videos, but the fact that there is a wall between his windows, but there is none in those videos, would be difficult to explain. You'll only see windows from end to end that you can even see the curtains. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but it makes me sad that a poor quality video was enough for some to drop JK and call him names.
I keep receiving a lot of asks about the windows in the video not matching JK's windows. I've seen some analyses, but I think they might be wrong. My only reason for doing this post is so people stop asking me why I believe the video is real , when the windows don't match.
Before you read this, please watch this video of the layout of JK's apartment and pay close attention to it, especially between 2:24 and 2:58.
Disclaimer: I am not saying I am right and I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, but after a lot of thought and careful observation, this is what I came up with:
1. The apartment is on the first floor/parter of the Brunnen building. The living room has two big windows. Both contain a big fixed, unmoving window and a sliding window glass door. There is a wall dividing the two windows. On the opposite side is the wall with the security system. On the right is a hallway, and on the left is some sort of free space, sort of like a hole in the wall.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
2. The sliding doors open to a patio area, which is surrounded by a tall black wall, partially obscuring the visibility from the buildings on the other side.
Tumblr media
3. The sliding door to the patio is actually not a singular door, but there are two separate doors, sliding on both sides of the main window. There is one main door on the inside, sliding on the inner surface of the big window , and nother door/protective screen on the outside, sliding on the outside of the big window. You can see that the rail for the outside door travels along the entire length of the main glass window, meaning it can probably move a lot to the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. A very important point: the two doors have separate frames, and they move separately from one another. In the video above , you can see the real estate agent opening them separately, one of after the other and moving them to the side. This picture shows pretty well that there are two doors and they don't move together, but separately. (One can be closed, while the other is completely open etc)
Tumblr media
5. If you go on google Street View, you can see there are a lot of cables hanging in front of the building, forming sort of a net in every direction. Remember this, it's important.
Tumblr media
Now, many people seem to think the windows in the video don't match because JK's apartment doesn't have so many windows and because of the missing dividing wall and second hallway. When you look at the picture below, it seems like the apartment in the video has at least 4 windows:
Tumblr media
But here is the kicker: these may not all be separate windows, or windows at all, and if this is JK's house, the video actually doesn't show the entirety of his living room walls.
I believe the video is taken from somewhere higher on the other side of the street, at an angle from the left of the building, and is very zoomed. I think it doesn't actually show the entire wall of Jungkooks' apartment and all his windows in the living room. Rather, it only shows a part of the big window in front of the sofa (but not the whole of it) and the two sliding doors connected to it. In fact, you can actually see a part of the tall black wall in the lower part of the frame and even a zoomed up image of one of the cables in the surrounding of the building.
Many people blamed JK for not closing his curtains, and actually used this as an "evidence" this couldn't be him in tne video, but I think Jungkook actually had his curtains closed, just not all the way. He had one curtain drawn, covering most of the big window in his living room, and the other pushed to the side, in front of the sliding doors. You can see it in the first picture on the atmost left. Initially, it looks like some sort of a white wall, but the Brunner building is black, so it can't be a wall. But it definitely can be a curtain. We know JK's curtains are a light color, and you can see how this "white thing" isn't as opaque or as uniform in color as a wall would be. in fact, in the original video, you can sort of see a tiny bit around it. It seems like it is moving a little, and it looks a little sheer.
Tumblr media
The main thing you need to understand in order to get my theory is the position of the doors, which we now know are two, not one, and they move separately from one another.
To me it, it looks like the outside door to the patio is moved a lot to the right in the direction of the big window. The inside door is moved a smaller distance to the right and is partly opened, with the open space being covered by the white curtain. Both doors overlap at one place, creating the illusion of a smaller green rectangular window, but actually, it is just a zone where the doors and the main big window, around which the slide, all overlap. Sort of like if someone went outside and pushed both doors to the side in process. Then the person came back inside, leaving the outside door how it was and pulling the inside door, closing it partly, but still leaving a small open space, with the curtain in front of it.
Tumblr media
I see many people saying this couldn't be Jungkook's apartment because the dividing wall before the kitchen and living room is not there, but the video is very zoomed, probably because the person filming is on the other side of the street and somewhere higher above (in order to see above the big black wall). It only shows only one of the windows. We can it is very zoomed in by the zoomed in image of the cable at the forefront of the frame, looking huge. (When you zoom in on something further in the distance, the objects closest to you look enormous). And we know that there are many hanging cables outside of the building. If the video was more zoomed out or the person was filming more to the right, we would have been able to see the dividing well.
I also see people saying it couldn't be the same apartment because you only see one hallway to the right of the security system, but again, the video is very zoomed, and the hall in the wall in the left is not visible because of the partly drawn white curtain, and the viewing angle (somewhere from the left of the building).
Anyway, I hope this makes sense to some of you. I tried as best as I could, but it is hard to explain it properly, and I am definitely not good at drawing. I don't claim to be right, just a theory, so don't come at me. And let's not forget that, above all, JK is human, and he never should have had his privacy validated like this.

@1863-project  for the followup of my last train/subway info dump
They did keep some of the MR-63! They actually fully repaired and cleaned it, especially the very first model that had been in use; the 81-502! And others of course! I actually hope to see it soon! I managed to rope in my dad and sister to go to the Exporail (Canadian Railway Museum, we just call it Exporail as locals) so I’ll be going over there pretty soon! I can’t wait since I’ve mostly been interested more in the subway system than the whole Canadian Railway system, and I’m very new to any steam locomotives or anything like that
BUT! The real reason I’m stimming in my seat writing/sharing this is that, while in my car to go meet my family, I crossed where the new Montreal REM will be! See, the REM (the actual name is in french, which would translate to Metropolitan Express Line) is still under construction and while on the highway, we can get really close glimpses of the workers and what they’re doing. When I passed (in my car, so sadly I couldn’t stop for pictures since yknow, a highway) I could see the crew hanging the electricity cables to go on top of the tram. According to my dad, they’re working 3 shifts of 8 hours, so there’s always someone working there! Right in the middle! (but that’s an older picture, now the tracks are all there)
Tumblr media
(In the image below, the Lime Green and Light Blue are the new REM tracks, most if not all are outside. The Orange, Green, Blue and Yellow are the normal Metro lines, so fully underground. Pink are the Train lines, which connect to the suburbs. And not shown? I love that buses are available everywhere! Missed the métro and there’s a problem? grab the bus to the next station! or even to your house! Many drivers will gladly stop their bus at any corner in their route if it makes it easier for you, just need to ask nicely! A godsent by my cane-using, autistic person that’s scared of the dark)
Tumblr media
Which yknow, makes sense since they want the REM fully ready by September and it covers 26 stations over 67 kilometers. Some of the stations from the outside are so pretty! And on the bridge it passes right through the arch, which is so cool! (A slightly older picture below during the winter. Now all the tracks are installed and they’re rigging the electrical wires)
Tumblr media
And the most interesting part of my findings? I saw the smallest and CUTEST little speeder train on top of one of the rails! It was linked back to some other cars, the main one being what I can only describe as a locomotive cut short? Like the main conductor area was there, but the rest wasn’t, and had other cars attached (mostly with building materials and such). But it was as big as a normal locomotive, only shorter! I couldn’t find where on the internet to find info about them. I have never seen those outside of building crews, so that might be why I’m short on info. Maybe I can try to find train enthusiasts that might now!

Note
here's a headcanon about sun, he has a chipped tooth like the one he has on certain posters (like the poster for the sundrop candies for example), it makes his smile look more endearing, i like to imagine he got it from a silly accident (like bumping into a hard wall or something)
That's be neat! I always thought he was missing a tooth in the pictures but I never looked too closely. Either way? I like that!
They modified how to cable system that lets em fly work and he smacked into a wall figuring it out. Or maybe it happened when he was hanging out with the others? Like mini golf gone wrong or something. That could be funny
The company looked at it and were like "eh. Whatever. Just change the artwork it'll be cheaper." instead of replacing it so now he has a fun story to tell about how he broke/lost his tooth!

In art and interior design, you must get deeply involved in spectacularly displaying your invaluable possessions. Set foot on the picture hanging rail, which is a superb idea that changes how we feel about the works of art, photographs, and memories exhibited.
What is a Picture Hanging Rail?
A picture hanging rail is a stylish, discreet, and adaptive system that gives your art collection the premium visibility it deserves. Unlike the old method of hammered nails or adhesives, these rails upgraded the antique art hanging to a stylish and smart one. These are usually a track flush with or slightly above the wall space and various hangers or cables that fit the frames, canvases, or other display items you'd like to showcase.
The Benefits of Picture Hanging Rails
Versatility and Flexibility: There are a couple of key advantages to picture hanging rail: they are very versatile. Modular elements made possible by this technology give you total control over your setup. It is easy to realign, add, or remove pieces on demand, and the systems are progressively configurable with your changing art forms and requirements.
Clean and Minimalist Aesthetics: Art hanging systems with picture hanging rails, though, often go for a classic and slick aesthetic, making the artwork a focal point in your home. A subtle design avoids overwhelming users' attention with displays showing watches and hides hardware or mounting mechanisms.
Seamless Gallery-Style Displays: Considering the sense of a professional, gallery-like atmosphere, hanging rails that can simplify the process are a perfect choice. Such systems allow your objects to be hung at certain levels and distances to have that perfect touching point with the eyes of the viewers, resulting in amazing aesthetics.
Exploring Gallery Hanging Systems
In the world of art display, galleries' use of art hang systems has become increasingly popular. These systems provide the needed picture hanging solutions designed for art lovers, art galleries, and museums. Gallery hanging systems frequently offer picture hanging rails as the main components of the whole system, along with other accessories and hardware solutions that emphasize safety and aesthetic appeal.
Finding the Right Picture Hanging Solution
When deciding on which picture hanging rail or gallery hanging system to purchase, you should consider aspects like the weight and size of paintings, the type of style you prefer, and the layout of the area you are working with.
Experts in the field or brands with a fine reputation can be consulted, or you may conduct your research to find the right fit for your picture hanging solution to create that visual effect in your artistic vision.
Embrace Artistic Expression
Be it as a passionate art lover, a gallery owner, or even someone who is just fond of a few decent pieces, not only will picture hanging rails and art hanging systems take your entire display to a new level of sophistication, but they will also give it a tinge of modernism. Celebrate the thrill of choosing your décor and allow your curated space to be the ultimate artistic expression. Take pleasure in the fact that you can be completely flexible in your building design.

Sunday is nothing. Just strategically sleeping past the rainy segment of the morning, enjoying birdsong, politely squeezing past a man watching porn and smoking a joint standing next to his motorbike outside my studio. During Ramadan, no less. I realised long ago that my studio’s placement in the yard is where you go when you’re a south Asian man to do things that other more pious south Asian men may frown upon. Things like tell your wife she’s a cunt on the phone or use drugs in the middle of the day or urinate or defecate or snack during a fast. C said yesterday “the yard is YARDING”, and he was right. I am never offered sizzurp but I know it to be sold daily. I just walk through it all in my androgynous clothing and enter my little colonial enclave to paint and consume podcasts and foam roll my legs. Over lunch I watch a video with a man promoting some 100 day “rejection therapy course”, where you willingly put yourself in one situation each day that leads to rejection. Something as simple as asking for your morning coffee to be free gently builds to something as complex as asking someone on a date. The idea, I guess, is to practice tolerating the shame that comes with being rejected on any level, until your relationship with rejection changes. It’s one of those technically beautiful ideas that is gamified and bro-coded and comes to me in YouTube form, so I laugh at it and move on quickly. I realise I don’t want any life advice or wisdom from a really muscly man. There is something so untrustworthy about the ripped male physique. But it’s also entertaining, like the animatronics at Disney. Sometimes I think I am so addicted to the hour of YouTube Shorts I watch halfway through my work day, I may as well throw in the towel and download TikTok. Learn how to eat open a pineapple without a knife, attempt to understand the teenage psyche. Perhaps if there’s another pandemic
A calls and he has finished brunch and plans to go and play doubles with three friends. There exists an app called “Swimply” which allows people to use other people’s swimming pools and pay by the hour. A’s tennis instructor told him that the app has since moved into letting tennis courts. So, A says, he is going to play tennis at a mansion in Larchmont. He mentions his double’s partner is dating (meaning, being confused and messed around by) E. I sigh a sigh of relief that I am no longer in her position, and bristle briefly when A tells me she’s a good tennis player. All is normal. I don’t cry and I don’t withdraw, we just stare at one another and A shows me his gun nestled in its safety box. “Did you figure out how to set up the fingerprint locking system yet?”, I ask. He says he didn’t, and that he’s been using the keys. Seeing A and seeing his gun in combination always makes me laugh. He is the opposite of what you picture when you picture a gun-owner. He closes the safety box, which is technically not safe at all, and we hang up and I go to bed
On Monday I buy batteries and successfully set up the miniature Juno synth I bought the previous week. I feel like a tech genius searching my chaotic drawer of wires for the exact power cable and connectors to plug the synth into my guitar amp. I find the setting that most emulates the recording of Back Burner and practice playing and singing at the same time. I ask P to ask the chef of the place we ate at on Saturday for the recipe for a fish dish I had that changed my life. P says the chef asked me to text him and, just like that, I have the number of one of the best chefs in London. There is potential for abuse here on my part, perhaps asking for reservations that officially don’t exist like G manages to do at every good restaurant in New York. I also just want the recipe, a white fish baked in an almost custard-like inch of tahini. I ask A how serious his sesame allergy is. He technically also has a gluten allergy, but I’ve seen him stray a number of times. It makes him tired and bloated. Once he called me and told me he “fell off the wagon real bad” and ate several black and white cookies at a music producer’s birthday party. He thinks his gastric problems developed while touring with his third wave ska band in the late 1990s and he was too nervous to poop on buses. That he was in a ska band makes me so happy. I mostly keep my love of ska as a teenager a secret, but compared with some of what I dedicated my energies to back then, there is really nothing to be ashamed of
I have therapy and I tell M about all my jealous fantasies and the car on fire and my deeply felt sense that love is a zero sum game. “I think you believe love is a physical substance that can be used up”, M suggests, “you want to either overdose on love or destroy it entirely”. She proposes my original wound was in competing for care with my mother’s child patients when I was young, perhaps feeling like those ailing kids got the best of her while I got a tired husk of a woman who hated her husband and mainly came home to sleep. Maybe it seemed like her parental love was used up on someone else. And there was likely some of this with my dad, too, who also spent a great deal of time healing the sick. But his patients weren’t children, they were mainly very old or very fat people whose knees and hips had buckled beyond repair. I have dwelled on my father adequately, and now I notice the waves of anger towards my mum get larger and larger with every session. Thank god for parents, keeping the profession of psychology alive. M seems animated by this line of inquiry, and asks that we dedicate more sessions to it. She calls me “desperate” a number of times, in a way that would be offensive if it weren’t therapeutic. I laugh anyway. The hour ends and I go back to my synth, playing with the arpeggiator. If overwhelming feelings are chords, I imagine therapy is separating them all out into individual notes like this. Is that corny as hell

BenQ V7000i Projector Review
Tumblr media
BenQ V7000i Projector Review
If an 85-inch picture is not enough for you to watch movies and does not match the sound of your surround sound theater system, then there is only one way out - a projector. And if at the same time you do not want or cannot implement a classic projection system in your living room, then the solution is to use an ultra-short throw projector, for example, BenQ V7000i.
It all started with projection TVs. At the end of the last century, when the most popular screen size of televisions (then still kinescope) was 25-29 inches, projection devices could offer a picture with an unrealistic for that time diagonal of 50 or even 60 inches. And those projection models looked like real TVs, because they combined a rear projection projector, a screen and speakers in one case.
Years have passed. The screen size of mass-produced TVs has steadily grown, and many home cinema fans have chosen projectors that provide a picture with a diagonal of more than 100 inches. But building a home theater based on a classic projector involves solving a number of problems - from organizing a darkening of the room to laying wiring to the projector, and only great enthusiasts are ready to solve them. But what about other movie lovers who prefer to watch it on a really big screen? And here good old projection TVs come to the rescue - more precisely, ultra-short-throw projectors, for example, BenQ V7000i, combining a large screen size with ease of installation and operation. However, first things first.
We study
In addition to the possibility of obtaining a large image, the projection method of forming an image has another important advantage - it is more natural for the human eye. Our vision perceives surrounding objects through sunlight or electric light reflected from them. This type of perception of visual information is familiar to humans, and it is on this principle that the work of the projector is based. Unlike projectors, the TV screen emits light in the direction of the viewer, and such an image is perceived by the brain as artificial.
Tumblr media
Ultra-short-focus optics allows you to place the BenQ V7000i directly next to the screen - most often the device is installed on a TV cabinet under the screen. Thus, firstly, there is no need to hang the projector from the ceiling and lay long enough cables to it, since it is located next to the rest of the system components, and, secondly, this arrangement prevents viewers from getting between the projector and the screen - that is, viewing nothing can interfere.
One of the main problems of using a classic projector instead of a TV is the need to darken the room. The BenQ V7000i Ultra Short Throw Projector can take some of those worries away. A high light output of up to 2,500 lumens, combined with a short projection distance, provides a very bright picture - in direct sunlight, of course, it will be difficult to perceive it, but pitch darkness is not required for viewing. BenQ V7000i can be viewed quite comfortably in the background electric light or with loose curtains drawn in daylight. However, regular TVs also fail in direct sunlight.
Tumblr media
A special ALR-screen (Ambient Light Rejecting) will help in obtaining a bright picture from an ultra-short-throw projector, blocking up to 85% of stray light due to the use of black-and-white linear Fresnel lenses. The black lens layer absorbs background light, while the white elements reflect the projector's radiation directly to the viewer. Often such a screen comes with ultra short throw projectors, but BenQ decided to give the freedom to choose the required screen size and not tie the buyer to the option that comes with the kit.
The necessary high luminous flux in the BenQ V7000i projector is provided not by the usual high-pressure mercury lamp, but by a laser-phosphor light source, which is characterized by radiation coherence, that is, the ability to maintain the phase difference of the waves that make up the radiation in space over time. As a result, it is possible to obtain more juicy and natural colors.
Another distinguishing feature of the laser light source was the almost complete absence of inertia when changing the brightness of the glow, which makes it possible to realize at a qualitatively new level the increase in image contrast, which in projectors with a high-pressure lamp was achieved using a much more inertial dynamic lens aperture.
Tumblr media
The third advantage of a laser light source in comparison with a high-pressure lamp is a significantly longer resource, quite comparable to the resource of an LED or OLED panel of a conventional TV. If the projection lamp in the projector was actually a consumable with a resource of 2 to 5 thousand hours of operation, then for the laser source of the BenQ V7000i projector, the manufacturer declares a resource of 20 thousand hours.
And the long list of advantages does not end there - the laser light source gains nominal brightness when turned on much faster than the lamp, and when turned off it does not need long-term heat removal, which is strictly necessary for a high-pressure lamp. That is, turning the BenQ V7000i on and off is no different from controlling a regular TV.
The light source in the BenQ V7000i is based on an assembly of blue laser diodes and a phosphor wheel that converts blue light to white. The blue laser was chosen because the output power of laser diodes depends on the wavelength of light, and the highest intensity can be achieved in the blue spectrum.
BenQ has long been a trusted partner of Texas Instruments in advancing micromirror imaging technology. It was in BenQ projectors that the latest versions of micromirror chips were the first to appear. The BenQ V7000i was no exception. It uses single-chip DLP technology based on a Texas Instruments micromirror DMD assembly with a diagonal of 0.47” and a physical resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) is achieved with an XPR (Expanded Pixel Resolution) optical actuator. Moreover, this is not at all some kind of artificial method of increasing resolution - as a result of its work, an image with a real 4K resolution is formed on the screen. The technology of "optical shift" uses the inertia of human vision - several images are sequentially projected onto the screen with an optical shift, which is produced by the XPR actuator. The high rate of change of these images does not allow the eye to fix these "switches" and the frame is perceived as a whole - with a multiple higher resolution. I note that a color image is formed in a similar way in single-chip micromirror projectors - red, green and blue color components are sequentially displayed on the screen, and the eye integrates a full-color image.
Tumblr media
The BenQ V7000i projector supports HDR10 high dynamic range video. There is a proprietary HDR PRO mode, which enhances detail in bright and dark scenes. Reference color reproduction is achieved not only by factory calibration of the projector and the implementation of a special Filmmaker Mode, but also due to the widest coverage of the DCI-P3 color space , which, according to the manufacturer, reaches a record level of 98%.
As noted earlier, the BenQ V7000i projector is equipped with an audio system, which allows it to work autonomously - an external surround sound system is not necessary to accompany movies. At the same time, we are not talking about a small full-range speaker, which is usually equipped with presentation models - here, behind the acoustically transparent fabric that trims the front panel of the projector, there are two three-way (!!!) speaker systems, each of which is powered by a 5-watt amplifier. The virtual surround sound is simulated by the DSP. Of course, the built-in audio system will not replace the full-size surround sound system of a home theater, but most of the regular TV acoustics will replay for sure. TreVolo took part in the development and tuning of the audio system of the BenQ V7000i projector.
Tumblr media
With a modern TV, the BenQ V7000i projector is related to the smart functions of the Android TV operating system, implemented in the external dongle BenQ QS01, connected to the HDMI port. On the one hand, this solution reduces the number of available HDMI ports to one, and an external device connected to the projector complicates the installation. On the other hand, such functionality is developing very quickly today - over time, to get new features, it will be enough for you to replace an inexpensive dongle, and not change the entire projector. In this sense, this solution provides more flexibility.
The BenQ QS01 dongle is based on the Amlogic S905Y2 processor with four Cortex-A53 cores and is equipped with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory. Integration into the home computer network is implemented only through dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac). There is also a Bluetooth 4.2 LE adapter. The dongle is equipped with HDMI 2.0b and microUSB ports for power supply. The projector comes with two remote controls - the larger one allows you to fully control the settings of the projector, and the smaller white remote control is also optimized for dongle control and contains special buttons for calling Google Assistant, Amazon Prime Video and other services. At the same time, using this remote control, you can control the main functions of the projector, which allows you to manage them in everyday use, and use the large remote control only to configure the projector.
Tumblr media
Without the help of a dongle, the BenQ V7000i projector can play media files from external USB drives, for connecting which there are two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port. Supports video playback inMPEG1, MPEG4, H.263, H.264, H.265 and Motion JPEG formats in all popular containers. The only point is that the built-in player does not support playback of full disc images in ISO files and in the directory structure. However, I did not attribute this to shortcomings, since not a single TV model that I had to deal with has such an opportunity.
Installation and setup
To test the BenQ V7000i ultra short throw projector, we chose the BenQ ALR 100" branded ALR screen with a diagonal of 100 inches, specially designed for BenQ V7000i / V7050i projectors. For a maximum diagonal of 120" these figures would be 33.1 cm and 31.3 cm, respectively. the screen will have to be done mechanically - the optical system of the projector does not provide any adjustments other than focus adjustment. However, this is a common situation with ultra short throw projectors. To help the installer, the manufacturer has provided the ability to adjust the height of all four legs of the projector, and also provided the BenQ V7000i with two retractable rulers to control the distance to the screen surface. The system menu of the BenQ V7000i projector provides access to an advanced set of picture settings, including detailed settings for color temperature, gamma, advanced color component control, and so on. But BenQ home theater projectors are factory calibrated to deliver true-to-life color out of the box. Therefore, it was enough to turn off all kinds of “enhancers” of motion transmission and activate the Filmmaker Mode.
When testing the BenQ V7000i projector, we used both its built-in multimedia player that played content from an external USB hard drive and an external OPPO BDP-203 player connected via HDMI. In addition to 4K UltraHD Blu-ray discs, the test included Full HD material from Blu-ray discs, as well as movies from streaming services.
We watch and listen
You can look forever - at flowing water, flames and ... driving off when you turn on the top panel of the BenQ V7000i projector. In addition to the visual effect, this detail performs a very important function. The fact is that in ultra-short-throw projectors, the lens is actually located, albeit at an angle, but upwards with an external lens, which is open not only to dust, but also to the encroachment of small film enthusiasts and pets. The protective panel in the BenQ V7000i projector reliably protects against possible troubles. And it's just beautiful!
The BenQ V7000i projector showed a picture saturated with the smallest details with natural color reproduction. Usually, when evaluating, special attention is paid to the ability to reproduce deep blacks, but here you immediately pay attention to the juiciness, but not the loudness of almost the entire palette. The projector carefully works out the finest shades of color and brightness transitions, while natural color reproduction and a serious margin of contrast give a truly three-dimensional frame.
The second point - even in background lighting conditions, the brightness of the projector was quite enough to form an expressive picture - no degradation of the dark areas of the frame was observed, and on the video material with a wide dynamic range HDR, the image became even deeper and more voluminous.
The third point (in order, but not in importance) is the high-quality work of the video processor - the most dynamic movements in the frame are reproduced with minimal blur and the absence of halos. Sports competitions or dynamic action scenes of modern blockbusters are presented by BenQ V7000i without a hint of strobing or friezes. Ideally performed by the projector and upscaling Full HD material from Blu-ray discs to 4K resolution.
And, finally, about the soundtrack of the video sequence - the TreVolo audio system built into the BenQ V7000i demonstrated a rather expressive sound with detailed high frequencies and tight bass. At the same time, I was not able to overload the acoustics - of course, it will not be able to amaze the imagination with thunderous explosions, but the built-in audio system is quite capable of accompanying the film with a clean soundtrack without distortion - and it even knows how to create a semblance of some volume.

Conclusion:
A modern laser ultra-short throw projector is quite capable of competing with top-end TVs. Offering a huge picture size that even flagship TVs are still beyond the reach of, the BenQ V7000i has full-fledged smart TV functionality and high brightness, enough to not bother with special measures to darken the room. And installing the projector directly below the screen will eliminate the usual problems of installing a classic projection system. The stylish design of the BenQ V7000i with a motorized privacy shutter is a bonus.

Sichuan Shimei's annual output of 150,000 tons of aluminum profiles and aluminum products processing project will be officially put into operation in January next year
Furnaces No. 1 and No. 2 in the first workshop of the first phase of the plant are expected to be ignited on December 16! It will be officially put into operation in January next year, and a single furnace can produce 110 tons of aluminum rods per day!
This is the good news that the author learned on December 10 at the construction site of Sichuan Shimei Technology Co., Ltd. with an annual output of 150,000 tons of aluminum profiles and aluminum products processing project!
Accompanied by the sound of "嗞...", sparks splashed, and the motor roared, workers skillfully welded the furnace body of No. 3 casting furnace in the workshop. The project leader happily told reporters loudly: "Good news! Furnace No. 1 is expected to be put into production in April 2023. When all foundry furnaces are fully staffed, the company can achieve an annual output value of more than 3 billion yuan, tax revenue of 85 million yuan, and employment for more than 600 people!"
The project is located in Yuanjiaba Aluminum Industrial Park, Guangyuan Economic and Technological Development Zone. Taking advantage of the fine weather, the construction "fast forward button" is pressed, and the beautiful "construction drawing" is gradually turning into a happy "real scene picture".
"What are the main uses of aluminum profiles and aluminum products?" The author is very curious.
"The application is great! It is widely used in automobiles, ships, high-speed rail, escalators and other fields, and provides special aluminum alloy profiles such as frame, steering and electric system shells for electric vehicles in France, Germany and other countries." The project leader Rusuo Jiazhen, "This is an environmentally friendly and energy-saving aluminum profile recommended by the state."
Speaking of the project, he continued to eloquently: "The total investment of the project is nearly 1.077 billion yuan, covering an area of about 220 acres. It has 16 extrusion production lines, 8 surface treatment production lines, and 6 casting production lines. After completion, it will have an annual output of 15 The production line of 10,000 tons of aluminum profiles and aluminum products. The main products produced by the company have excellent weather resistance, stability and environmental protection..."
"Go a little to the left, move a little more!"
The author followed the reputation and saw that in the gap about one meter wide between the two walls, a worker was doing a protective job and standing in the hanging basket. Spray paint protection work for dust removal equipment. As a production and processing company of aluminum profiles and aluminum products, Sichuan Shimei Technology Co., Ltd. has completed the construction of a production line with an annual output of 150,000 tons of aluminum profiles and aluminum products. Recycle equipment such as pulse bag dust removal system, use dust removal equipment to "strangle" smoke and industrial dust in the "cradle", and contribute to the promotion of green and low-carbon production methods.
In order to catch up with the progress of the project, there are currently more than 80 people on the construction site sticking to their respective posts every day: welding of casting water circulation system, pre-embedding of cable trench, installation of furnace body... Busy and orderly, this project is only one of many key projects in our city the epitome of. Construction workers and managers voluntarily gave up their holidays, stick to the front line of construction, and increase their working hours. "For workers who give up rest, we have also clarified the wage subsidy policy." The person in charge said that in order to ensure that the project can be completed and put into production as soon as possible, the project has increased from 5 technicians to 15 technicians to assist equipment manufacturers to work overtime on site Add some installation equipment, everyone is full of energy, and take practical actions to speed up the construction progress of the project.
