The Evolution of LG Monitors: Technology, Innovation, and Performance
LG Electronics, one of the world's leading manufacturers in consumer electronics, has been a key player in the monitor industry for years. Known for innovation, quality, and performance, LG has consistently delivered monitors that meet the needs of a diverse audience, from casual users to hardcore gamers and creative professionals. Let’s explore what sets LG monitors apart and how they have evolved over time.
1. Technological Advancements
LG is synonymous with cutting-edge technology, particularly in display innovation. One of their most significant contributions to the monitor market is IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, which revolutionized color accuracy and viewing angles. IPS panels offer superior color reproduction compared to traditional TN (Twisted Nematic) panels, making them the preferred choice for professionals in graphic design, photography, and video editing.
OLED and Nano IPS technologies have also helped LG carve out a niche in the premium display market. OLED monitors offer perfect blacks and vibrant colors, making them ideal for tasks requiring high color accuracy, while Nano IPS enhances color depth and provides better contrast ratios.
2. Diverse Range of Monitors
LG offers a wide variety of monitors catering to different segments of the market, each engineered to meet specific needs.
Gaming Monitors: The LG UltraGear series is LG's flagship gaming monitor lineup, designed for gamers seeking high refresh rates, minimal input lag, and excellent visual quality. With features like 144Hz to 240Hz refresh rates, G-Sync and FreeSync support, and 1ms response time, LG UltraGear monitors ensure smooth gameplay and immersive experiences for both competitive and casual gamers.
UltraWide Monitors: LG's UltraWide monitors (21:9 aspect ratio) are popular among multitaskers, content creators, and professionals who need extra screen real estate for enhanced productivity. Whether it's video editing, graphic design, or coding, the UltraWide models allow for a seamless, multi-window setup. Some of these monitors also come with curved screens for a more immersive field of view.
4K and 5K Monitors: For professionals who demand ultra-high resolution and precise color accuracy, LG’s 4K and 5K monitors deliver. They are often equipped with HDR support, offering better contrast and color depth, and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, making them perfect companions for Mac users and video editors working on high-resolution projects.
Office and Business Monitors: The LG Ergo series is a unique solution for office environments. With its ergonomic stand, which allows for height, tilt, and pivot adjustments, these monitors enhance productivity while offering comfort. Moreover, they often come equipped with USB-C connectivity, reducing cable clutter and simplifying workspace management.
3. Gaming: A Key Focus
LG has made substantial inroads into the gaming community, delivering some of the best gaming monitors available today. With the rise of competitive esports and the growing demand for immersive gaming experiences, LG has focused heavily on high-refresh-rate displays, low response times, and sync technologies (G-Sync and FreeSync).
Monitors like the LG UltraGear 27GN950-B (4K resolution, 144Hz, 1ms response time) have become favorites among gamers for their breathtaking image quality and performance. Additionally, LG's use of Nano IPS technology in gaming monitors delivers vibrant colors without compromising speed.
4. Design and Aesthetic Appeal
Apart from performance, LG is known for sleek, minimalist designs that blend well in both home and professional environments. Many LG monitors boast ultra-thin bezels, providing a more immersive viewing experience. The company has also adopted borderless designs in many models, making them ideal for dual or multi-monitor setups.
The LG UltraFine series is designed specifically for creative professionals, boasting factory-calibrated color accuracy with P3 wide color gamut and support for true 10-bit color depth.
5. Connectivity and Features
LG monitors are often packed with features that cater to modern needs. From USB-C connectivity that delivers power, data, and video over a single cable to HDMI 2.1 for enhanced gaming capabilities, LG has ensured its monitors are future-proofed. Additional features like picture-in-picture modes, built-in speakers, and hardware calibration further solidify LG’s status as a top-tier monitor brand.
6. Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Approach
As sustainability becomes increasingly important, LG has started incorporating eco-friendly technologies in its monitors. These include energy-efficient backlighting, low power consumption modes, and the use of recyclable materials in product packaging. By focusing on reducing their environmental impact, LG aligns its innovation with global sustainability efforts.
Conclusion: Why Choose LG Monitors?
Whether you're a professional in need of top-tier color accuracy, a gamer seeking the smoothest gameplay, or a multitasker needing an expansive workspace, LG has a monitor tailored to your specific requirements. The brand’s commitment to high-quality displays, continuous innovation, and attention to user comfort has earned it a spot among the most reliable and respected monitor manufacturers worldwide.
With ongoing advances in display technology like Mini LED, OLED, and 8K resolutions, LG continues to push the boundaries of what monitors can do. As a result, LG remains a go-to brand for users seeking excellent performance and cutting-edge technology in their displays.

Enhance Your Productivity: The Benefits of a Dual Monitor Stand for Your Laptop
In today's digital age, where multitasking and productivity are paramount, having a dual monitor setup for your laptop can be a game-changer. A dual monitor stand allows you to expand your workspace, improve your workflow, and increase your efficiency. In this article, we'll explore the benefits of using a dual monitor stand with your laptop, the types available, and tips for setting up the perfect dual monitor workstation.]
Benefits of Using a Dual Monitor Stand with Your Laptop :
Increased Productivity: One of the most significant advantages of a dual monitor setup is the boost in productivity it offers. With two screens at your disposal, you can have multiple applications, documents, or web pages open simultaneously, eliminating the need to constantly switch between tasks. This seamless multitasking capability allows you to work more efficiently and complete tasks faster.
Enhanced Workspace: Dual monitors provide a more extensive workspace, making it easier to view and manage multiple windows or applications side by side. Whether you're working on a complex project, analyzing data, or coding, the additional screen real estate allows for a more organized and clutter-free workspace.
Improved Focus: A dual monitor stand can help you maintain better focus by allowing you to dedicate one screen to your primary task while using the other for reference materials, communication, or secondary tasks. This separation of workspaces minimizes distractions and enhances concentration.
Ergonomic Benefits: Proper ergonomics are essential for maintaining comfort and reducing strain during long work hours. A dual monitor stand allows you to adjust the height, tilt, and orientation of your screens to align with your eye level and preferred viewing angle. This can help prevent neck, back, and eye strain, promoting a healthier and more comfortable working environment.
Seamless Collaboration: Dual monitors are invaluable for collaborative work. Whether you're collaborating with colleagues in the office or virtually, having two screens allows you to share your work on one monitor while keeping your reference materials or communication tools on the other. This enhances communication and teamwork, leading to more effective collaboration.
Types of Dual Monitor Stands for Laptops :
Freestanding Dual Monitor Stand: This type of stand is placed directly on your desk and can hold two monitors side by side. It offers stability and adjustable features to ensure proper positioning of your screens. Some freestanding stands even come with integrated cable management systems to keep your workspace organized.
Desk Clamp Mount: A desk clamp mount attaches to the edge of your desk, saving valuable desk space. It allows you to position your monitors at various heights and angles while keeping your workspace clutter-free. Desk clamp mounts are an excellent choice for those with limited desk space.
Grommet Mount: Similar to the desk clamp mount, a grommet mount attaches to the desk but requires a hole (grommet) in the desk's surface for installation. This type of mount provides a secure and stable platform for your dual monitors and is ideal for those who prefer a clean and uncluttered desk.
Wall-Mounted Dual Monitor Arm: If you want to free up even more desk space, a wall-mounted dual monitor arm is an option. It attaches to the wall and allows you to position your monitors at the desired height and angle. Wall-mounted arms are a sleek and space-saving solution for dual monitor setups.
Tips for Setting Up the Perfect Dual Monitor Workstation :
Choose Matching Monitors: For the best dual monitor experience, it's advisable to use two matching monitors with the same screen size and resolution. This ensures a consistent and seamless display across both screens.
Adjust Monitor Placement: Position your monitors at eye level, with the top of the screens at or just below eye level. This reduces strain on your neck and promotes a comfortable viewing posture.
Calibrate Monitor Settings: Ensure that the brightness, contrast, and color settings of both monitors are calibrated to match each other. This helps maintain a consistent visual experience between the two screens.
Organize Cables: Invest in cable management solutions to keep the cables and wires from your monitors and laptop tidy. This not only enhances the aesthetics of your workspace but also reduces the risk of tripping hazards.
Use Monitor Mounts with Adjustable Arms: If possible, choose dual monitor stands or mounts with adjustable arms. These allow you to fine-tune the positioning of your monitors to achieve the perfect alignment for your workspace.

Best desktop toys for lawyers

Until recently, I used a hard landline into my h-office and pointed my unified messaging service to both my landline and my cell. In fact, my entire practice is based on the phone. Once you have a spot and start to use it, you’ll realize what I mean by how much time you waste looking for the proper cord on a daily basis! 2. You can use a cable clip for each charging cord you own and hang them along a wall, inside your desk or even on the inside of a door or closet. This way, the laptop cable rests exactly where you need it, without it being strewn across your work surface or, worse, disappearing into a faraway space that can’t be reached without moving furniture. The solution to both problems? Desk cable management clips.įor devices like your laptop, use these clips to snake the wire under and up the back of your desk. When you have a phone, laptop, digital speaker, tablet, e-watch and so on, they move around to different spots but usually only come with one cable to charge. One daily frustration is having to take time to find a charging cable for one of my many devices of life. Even more than my distaste for clutter, however, is my hate for waste! Given my personality, I don’t do clutter, and wires are visual clutter. Wires in an office are a rat’s nest of dirty, scary connections and remind me of worms all over the floor. I can link back to several articles I’ve written over the years highlighting how much I despise wires. Unfortunately, it seems we are all trapped inside for the duration and the places where we’re now constrained to work are not yet the places where we want to work! So, in honor of Julie Andrews and spring (cleaning) time - and in hopes of making your home office (h-office) a better place to work, these are a few of my favorite things. With arms outstretched, I’d take a deep breath, spin till I’m dizzy and be thankful for all that is around me. “The Sound of Music” is considered a winter movie, but every spring I think about how much I would love to find a verdant hilltop somewhere and release my inner Julie Andrews. Basically, a laptop left unattended in public is much more likely to be stolen than a desktop computer, particularly if the computer is housed in a large metal case, like most desktops are.In honor of Julie Andrews, spring, and in hopes of making your home office a better place to work, these desk gadgets are a few of my favorite things. This is likely due to the opportunistic nature of most theft crimes. Physical Securityĭespite all the clear advantages of laptops over desktops, desktops get stolen much less frequently than laptops. It also avoids problems associated with having locally stored files on multiple machines, and the cost associated with buying both a laptop and a desktop (though firms sometimes require associates that want laptops to foot the bill themselves). This skews the calculus significantly towards the laptop with in-office docking station as the preferred option. But, the fact remains that many attorneys will be able to put in more hours (while out of the office), if they have a laptop. Typically, desktops will cost less than laptops in every single regard, from purchase to maintenance and replacement. However, when using a laptop on a docking station, you can also use your laptop's display as an additional monitor (which can be quickly tilted down to hide a game of solitaire or personal chat/web-browser window). Although, all that screen may make it harder to pretend like you were working when the boss comes waltzing in. All that screen real estate is helpful when drafting pleadings, doing research, or even responding to emails. Having a desktop usually goes hand in hand with having a large monitor or maybe two or three. Fortunately for laptop users, a docking station can be configured to have a hardwired internet connection that allows your laptop to avoid Wi-Fi when docked in office. Although desktops and laptops can both work on Wi-Fi networks, when you're in the office, using a hardwired connection to the internet is much more secure. One of the biggest advantages to using a desktop computer is security. After all, when it comes to tech and computing, size matters.īelow is some helpful advice on navigating this computational dilemma. This question gets even more complicated because laptops can be used with docking stations allowing attorneys to have multiple screens and other perks associated with using a desktop.įor those firms that are leaning toward laptops, often, questions abound about whether using a docking station while in the office is worthwhile, or just having separate desktop computers for in office use is better. When it comes to choosing the right tech for your law office, one of the biggest questions firms face is choosing desktops or laptops.

PS This repeats this answer, since I believe the same info applies to both open questions. Try dragging some medium size window back and forth between the external monitor and the laptop screen - using all the above, you should be able to find scaling settings which make the sizes match while still giving you a lot of space for your app windows, so no cursor jumps! The above lets you have a LOT more control over the real estate on your external monitor, and then - as you no doubt already know - you can also scale the internal MacBook LCD display:Ĭombine these.

How to choose real estate led window display- top 5 notes you should be aware of
To buy or not to buy, that’s not question, but where to buy, that is not an easy decision - especially if you are new to building your office window with real estate led window displays.
Due I am a real estate window designer, and I usually buy the real estate led light pocket from on-line shop, in the past 5 years, I have ordered such display from more than 15 one line shops at least, well, I don’t want to write all here, due some of them are really a nightmare experience for me. I try to choose some big of them and with a good purchasing experience to enjoy with you.
Most of them are dealers, not the real producer, but I think it is better to buy from real producer, the price is the lowest of course and they can produce something according to your actual need, and the quality is really good, and it is very flexible. the most of important, those factories now accept the trial mini order below 100pcs.  and service is not bad. take Litplus for example, Litplus is a real producer from China and can supply 3 years warranty, and in fact, their display is really good performance, seldom need the aftersale service. I bought a parcel display 5 years before, they now still work without any problem.
Before buy from Litplus,  as I said, I also buy such real estate window displays from several big on-line shops. part of them like vitrinemedia.com , display2go.com , prodisplay.com , novadisplay.com , deesign.com , showcaseartanframing.com, during of them deesign is USA secondary agent for vitrinemedia. they locate different countries. they really can supply a good sale service for you if you are from their local market. but the price are really expensive. but the product quality are nearly same as product be produced Litplus,   that let me doubt if they all buy such product from Litplus, although the people from Litplus said no, and I think that should be their business secrets. and refuse to release any.
Vitrine media is one of big companies, they have sales company whole Europe. they supply a good sales aftersale service. and their price is really considerable. the display quality is same as display be produced by Litplus,  The real estate window led display produced by Litplus has soared in popularity in recent years, and boasts a ton of celebrity fans including vatrine media, meanwhile, powers a third of the real estate display market today.
They are both great supplier for real estate led window display, although Litplus are more pay attention to develop and produce new model to satisfy the diversity of market and vitrine media show importance on the marketing, their sales companies locate whole Europe. but they are actually very different:
The price of real estate display be produced by Litplus is more competitive, no matter what order quantity it is, even only 1pc display, also enjoy a wholesale price, due Litplus focus on the small and medium business, it is China factory directly without any middle-dealer, that can save lots during the business.
Competitive price not mean low quality product. all the display are made of high quality acrylic sheet and long lifespan led light strip, all the display and its parts with 3 years warranty.
Litplus pay more attention to produce new model to satisfy the diversity of market, from its led strip brightness to led light colors, display appearance(sharp corner or round corner, with or without transparent hem, display sizes) and its flexible hanging, if clients need, Litplus can do it totally. and their customize order can be delivered within 7-15days, the delivery for normal order is 3-7days.
Litplus have a professional after-sales team, if there any question on display and its installation,  can directly feedback and their people will deal with it sooner. they also make clear installation video to make the installation more easy. no need to hire a electrician with additional cost.
Vitrine media company show importance on marketing, their sales companies locate whole Europe, they are really a big company, and more powerful than Litplus, but that mean requires more cost on everything. although they are same quality display as Litplus.
Think you already know which one’s right for you? check out some more specific reading below:
1. Thickness and quality of acrylic led panel - who is the best?
As we all know, the acrylic light panel quality and its thickness decide the window display lifetime and effect. high quality acrylic led panel will not very easy to bent and yellowing when meet heat, and high quality acrylic sheet with high lighting transmittance rate, can reach above 90%, the whole window display will more bright and vivid.
Litplus display with 6mm thickness acrylic light panel, those acrylic panel are top grate quality. so the whole display with very good light effect and can guarantee 3 years warranty.
Some other competitors also produce such display, but their display just look same from appearance, the inner content are great different, they make a plastic shell with 6mm thickness around the display to make the whole window display and inner of it with only 2mm thickness acrylic led light panel, can only use half year at most, but they give you a 1 year warranty, their price is very very low, but can you dare to buy?
2. The technology of frame color are also very important.
All of Litplus faceplate are silk screen printing, very smooth and uniform in color, it can better hide the led light strip. the metal pieces for magnetics are sticked tightly in the right place with 3M sticker. to make sure the metal pieces not fall down when meet the heat that generate from the electrical power, I saw some competitor make display frame color with oil printing, not smooth and uniform, the printing oil leak out from the frame edge, can be seen everywhere.  and smelly.
3. What brightness the led light can reach ?
All Litplus display led lights are customized with cool white color(around 6500K) , the brightness can reach above 4500lux. Litplus also have high light display and the brightness can reach above 7000lux. except for the cool with color, Litplus also produce other color temperature window display, one of clients ordered a parcel display with led light around 3000K, a warm color.
Litplus also make special cooler inside the display to reduce the heat from the electronic power to prolong the lifespan of display.
Some competitors only design a single side led light into display just to decrease the heat from the electronic power, they choose a normal white led light, such led light usually not very stable performance in color temperature, so such window display always appear blue led color,  they have no other cooler technology, thus the whole display look dim.
4. Workmanship and monthly production are also one of important element.
With 2000 Square Meters Plants, More Than 20sets Advanced Machines And Comply With ISO9001:2008 Management Keep Us Produce 50000pcs Qualified Real Estate Displays Each Months. Litplus make sure every displays be produced with good workmanship.
It is great different from those competitors who make the display with hand-making only.
5. Aftersales and supports
As to the after sale service, Litplus insist 2 "R",that is "repair" and "replace", for all display, they supply 2-3years warranty, thier engineer will supply you a detail guiding for you to self-check the product problem within 3days once get your detail problem report, most of them can better get resolved, if unlucky, they will replace it. and they will responsible for the shipping. they will not responsible for the problem that caused by any mistakes human making.
If you are for the first time to import sth from China, not quite clear the import affairs, like the import tax and vat, please don't worry, their stuff will guide you, they will better help you with better service with their rich experience.
Other competitor also promise a 12month after sale service, in fact, their display can not last to 1year. how could they supply aftersales service for you?
Above all, if you are really looking For Professional Manufacturer With Good Trust, Contact with them Now To Benefit their Qualified Products, Competitive Price And Good Service.their website is https://www.ledwindowdisplay.com

Thoughts on the Z Fold 3
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is an interesting device. While it is not the first foldable device made by Samsung, and not even the first foldable device on the market in general (though Samsung certainly was the first real company, I'm not really counting the horrible Royole Flexpai) for me personally, this is indeed my first foldable device.
So what is it like? For context, I am a long term Samsung user, having used the S2, S3, Note 4, S7 edge, S9+, and recently the S21 Ultra. Coming from the S21 Ultra the Z Fold 3 isn't that extreme in size, and folded it lies even better in my hand because it is less wide. Typing on the slimmer front screen is certainly something you have to get used to though.
The weight increase of 44 grams from the S21 Ultra's 227 grams to the Fold's 271 grams is noticeable. It isn't the end of the world or tipping the scale into "This is way to heavy" territory, but you will notice it when you handle them one after the other. The Z Fold 3 is, however you hold or handle it, definitely not a small or light device. Considering you have a foldable tablet in your hands, that fact isn't really surprising - it is kind of the point of this whole thing.
So If you want something small and light, you are definitely in the wrong market segment if you are looking at this phone.
The device can be unlocked with the fingerprint reader in the Power button on the right side, which I massively appreciate. I guess they can't yet fit an under display fingerprint reader into this kind of display due to size constraints and I am happy that's the case. I have an under display fingerprint reader on my S21 Ultra and my Galaxy Tab S6 and constantly have to retry with both of them to unlock these devices. These fingerprint readers have not yet gotten to the same level of performance the old ones are capable of, so I am really glad the "old" tech has made it into this device. If you want to unlock your phone with your face, that works perfectly fine, but in a world full of masks today the fingerprint reader is in my opinion the most versatile option, when done this way at least.
For my use cases, this thing is clearly overkill, I'll be really honest. Watching a Youtube video or TV Show is really nice on this device, especially if you want to watch classic shows like Star Trek The Original Series or Knight Rider, because the unfolded screens aspect ratio of 5:4 is really nice for those old 4:3 shows. 16:9 content is fine too, but there is of course quite a bit of screen real estate you are not using in those cases. But since this is more of a productivity device, 5:4 is the perfect aspect ratio in my opinion.
Typing on the unfolded screen is nice, but takes some getting used to. I have been using this phone since I have received it on Friday the 20th of August 2021, which has been 5 weeks now, and I still mistype quite a bit. I don't know why it takes me so long to get used to the split keyboard I use with Microsoft Swiftkey. When typing or swiping on the screen the crease of the folded display is very noticeable. When you watch or read something it quickly becomes absolutely not an issue, I couldn't care less. But you definitely will feel the crease with your fingers or even with the S-Pen.
Coming to the S-Pen, and the Note package available for this device. I like the S-Pen for the Fold 3. I have the smaller one of the two available since Samsung gave me the Galaxy Z Fold 3 Note package for free as a promotion for preordering the phone. The Note package contains a Super Fast Wall Charger supporting up to 25W, and this should have come with the phone itself in my opinion. I understand the environmental concerns these companies cite as the reason they don't put chargers into the box anymore, but for this price I simply cannot accept that this is the case. It just feels cheap when you open up such an expensive device and there is the phone and a cable in the box and nothing else.
I'm sorry but I have to start swearing for the next section of this article. You have been warned.
The Flip Cover that comes in the Note package is a horrible fucking mess and I don't want to meet whoever designed this thing because I would be scared of that person and the drugs they must have taken designing this thing. The cover doesn't stay closed, flops around like a flaccid dick and just feels like cheap crap. I cannot tell you how glad I am they gave that package to me as a free promotion for preordering, because if I bought this package and actually paid 89,90 Euros of my money for this cover I would have been fucking pissed.
Samsung, if anyone of you is reading this, you can do better than this. Much better. It feels like someone decided 5 minutes before production started "Hey we have this new folding phone, and we decided not to make a new Note, so why not combine the Pen with the Fold 3?" and wanked out a design on a napkin during dinner while the kids were screaming at them.
I am not a massive fan of the magnetically attached pens the Galaxy Tab Series and the iPad use, so I appreciate having a place to actually store the pen in, but the front opening part of that cover makes this thing completely useless in my eyes. And I think they kind of knew that, since you can take off the part of the cover the pen stores in - a fact I didn't see anywhere other then one single Youtube video made by the channel HighTechCheck in his video "Best And Worst Cases For Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3", here is the link, it's a great video in general if you're looking for cases for this phone:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2TBKlm-R2E&ab_channel=HighTechCheck
There might be other videos showing this feature of the Note Flip Cover of course, but this is the only one I came across while looking for accessory videos for this device.
Continuing on with the S-Pen, I understand that they had to make a new version because people would've poked holes into their screens with the old one - the new one is spring loaded to prevent you from pressing the pen to hard onto the screen - but what I do not like about the new S-Pen (at least the little one, I don't have the bigger one to test this with) is that you can only use it on the inner screen of the Z-Fold 3. That's right, the smaller of the S-Pens available for the Z Fold 3 does not work on the outer display of the phone when it is closed. I do not know why that is. It works perfectly fine on my S21 Ultra screen, but not on the outer screen of the Z Fold 3. I find that very bizarre. The outer screen has Gorilla Glass Victus on it, it certainly isn't a matter of screen protection. And it works on the S21 Ultra, so what the hell?
I'm a tech nerd, so I love the technology behind the foldable screen and the new form factor this results in. But I don't write 20 emails a day on my phone, or write a book on it, or anything like this. I use the big screen on the Z Fold 3 mainly for content consumption, Google Maps occasionally, web browsing, looking a photos, stuff like that. I am not a productivity monster that actually does multi tasking with a device like this. It is a great phone and the continuation of a new era in mobile technology and screen technology, and I'm glad I could be here to support that change because this means cool things might come out in the future with this technology. Could I still do everything I usually do on my S21 Ultra? Yes, yes I could, easily. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I bought this thing, but for someone like me this is massive overkill, as it probably will be for most people. Most people who buy this thing with their own money might not agree with that I guess. They have to justify the price of 1800 Euro for this thing after all. But I prefer to be honest with myself, and with you.
This is not a sensible device. It is absolutely a fun device and a great look into the future of what will one day be possible with this display tech, not just in the smartphone world but with screens in general. Just like that rollable LG TV this is technology that can be used for so much more than smartphones - it doesn't even have to be foldable. Just being able to put a display around a corner like it is a plastic sheet and having that in a fixed position opens up cool possibilities, once the tech is even better, and most of all, cheaper.
So no, it doesn't make my S21 Ultra look like unusable crap when compared to the Z Fold 3 just because of the foldable aspect. But in my opinion that's not the point of this device. It is to further push along the technology and establish it so it becomes more common place. So it gets better, can be made better, not just because the manufacturer Samsung is continuing to work on it, but because they get feedback from users about the device. The more established and researched a technology becomes, the cheaper it can become, meaning better and new usage forms for this technology in everyday life. Take a screen like that, make it see-through and put it into my car windscreen. It doesn't need to fold for that, but it does have to be durable, and depending on the windscreen, at least bent in some form. Give me overlay graphics on my car window for navigation. Give me glasses not like Google Glass with a small area of a screen but have the glasses BE the screen with this technology in a see through version. Give me a Cyberpunk 2077 style visor. That would really be exciting for me. What this phone and it's display technology represent is what is more interesting and exciting for me than the device itself. But the device itself is still great and I do not regret buying it. If you're into tech and have the necessary funds for it, I can recommend it. Maybe you are even a person that uses this device to its full multi-task capabilities, who knows?
Speaking of which, multi tasking is a breeze with this thing, it's perfectly fine running several apps at once, not just switching between apps but displaying several at the same time since you now have the screen real estate to actually use it. Since I just launched my homepage (this will be the first entry on it, actually) who knows, maybe I will use more multitasking myself in the future when writing stuff on the go, reading and researching in the browser and typing a note on the side perhaps. I doubt it, since for real writing I really don't like to use the touchscreen, but if I have a quick idea on the go and I have time, I could definitely see this being very useful.
Battery life is not an issue either for me, last week I had a day where I watched 6 hours of Star Trek The Original Series on it at around 80% brightness and was around 65% battery when I stopped, which is pretty impressive in my eyes. I have the episodes on my phone, so I wasn't streaming them over the network in case anyone is wondering.
The software has so far given me no troubles, not all apps scale to the screen but they still usually work without issues, and many apps like Youtube for example are adapted to use the foldable aspect of the Z Fold 3 in several ways, like when you half-fold the phone, set it on a table, and have the video on the top and scroll the comments on the bottom. Or multi task by having one app on the top and other on the bottom, stuff like that works really well in most apps I am using, I can't really recall any app right now that had huge issues with the aspect ratio or the foldable nature of this device. Good job Samsung!
The back cameras are on par with the S21 Ultra, so they're in my opinion top, but I'm no expert. What even I notice is the inner camera under the display. No longer is there a hole punch style camera, this one is actually under the display, which drastically decreases the performance of that inner camera. It's usage for video calls I guess, but for a device in that price range I think I would've been fine with a hole-punch style just to get the better image quality. I've made a comparison video on Youtube, comparing the front camera of the S21 Ultra and the Z Fold 3:
https://youtu.be/h5uQ1IQeIvE
The Z Fold 3 is a tech nerds dream come true, and really does whatever you need it to do. Whether you actually need all of that and if it is worth the money is for you to decide. If you already have a tablet you use for media consumption, and if you aren't a huge productivity fan or need one device that does it all and can carry nothing else, then I'd say no, you don't need it. But you might still want it just the same, like me.

Towards the beginning of The Golden House, there’s a soireè scene, where the eldest of the three Golden sons, the loquacious Petya, offers a brilliant display for the guests. The narrator recounts:
“That night he talked and drank without stopping, and all of us who were there would carry fragments of that talk in our memories for the rest of our lives. What crazy, extraordinary talk it was! No limit to the subjects he reached for and used as punching bags.”
Those subjects range from the collapse of foreign currencies to the sex lives of British royals, from the lyrics of Bob Dylan to the flaws in Stephen Hawking’s theory of black holes. Petya, “glittering-eyed and babbling like a brook,” flies from topic to topic, drawing spontaneously on his vast reservoir of knowledge, “like a whole cable box full of talk-show networks that jumped channels frequently.”
Veteran readers of Salman Rushdie will recognise this tendency from the author’s body of work. Like Petya, Rushdie is a polymath. His books – and his lectures -– overflow with myriad allusions, digressions, and stories within stories, sweeping through eras, continents, and cultures. However, unlike Petya, who suffers from a crucial “flaw in the program,” Rushdie is the master storyteller in his latest book, never losing control over what is, ultimately, a suspenseful thriller.
Return to realism
In The Golden House, Rushdie abandons the fantastical elements of much of his previous fiction, choosing realism over the magical realism for which he has become renowned. His return to realism may not be all that surprising in a novel that examines life in the United States in recent years. Actual events in America have proven to be so bizarre that the need to invent fabulous ones may have been eliminated.
In any case, this book is set firmly in the real world – in contemporary Bombay and New York – the city of the author’s birth and the city where he now resides. Its present action coincides with the eight years spanning Barack Obama’s Presidential term. As in some of Rushdie’s earlier work, most notably Midnight’s Children, the story of individual characters runs parallel to that of a nation caught in the throes of transformation.
The novel’s immediate setting is the Gardens, a grassy quadrangle in the heart of Manhattan that forms “an enchanted, fearless space” for the exclusive community that resides around it. It is in this idyllic space, where fireflies sparkle on summer evenings and children play freely, that our millennial narrator René lives with his liberal, academic, parents. At the beginning of the novel René is “just a young man dreaming of the movies.” He is, in fact, an aspiring filmmaker, in search of a subject.
On the day of Obama’s first inauguration, an event marked by a sense of unbridled optimism across the city, the grand mansion that has lain empty behind the Gardens for years is finally occupied, by a wealthy foreign family who refuse to divulge any information about their previous lives. The family’s imperious patriarch, like many immigrants before him, seeks to reinvent himself in America. He christens himself Nero after the last of the Caesars, and his sons choose their own names – Petronius (Petya), Lucius Apulius (Apu), and Dionysius (D). The mansion itself is renamed The Golden House.
Nero Golden shares many characteristics with another American literary hero – a mysterious past, unexplained wealth, decadent parties, a mythic property. Like Jay Gatsby’s guests, Nero’s new acquaintances try to fill the gaps in his narrative by spinning tales about him. René, who fancies himself as a modern-day Nick Carraway, makes several references to Fitzgerald’s novel. But unlike Gatsby, Nero is not alone.
The golden sons
In a sense, this is a story of fathers and sons. Each of Nero Golden’s sons is idiosyncratic and distinctive. Petya, afflicted by high-functioning autism, is an incredibly intelligent and erudite but socially awkward man who spends much of his time inside his bedroom bathed in the blue light of computer screens. When he is not expounding on the many subjects that crowd his brain, he immerses himself in the virtual world of gaming. Petya’s manic conversations conceal a deep and endless suffering.
The second son, Apu, is the artist in the family. Romantic and political, Apu becomes a successful painter and dabbles in activism before growing disillusioned with what he regards as liberal posturing and ineffectualness. He has a way with women, which places him and Petya firmly on the warpath.
The youngest son, the beautiful, androgynous D, is forever the outsider. Born of Nero’s extramarital liaison with “a woman of no consequence” 18 years after Apu, D has never felt like he really belongs in this family. Tormented by his illegitimacy and plagued by questions about his sexuality, D is the first to leave the Golden House and find refuge elsewhere – in Chinatown – outside the cloistered precincts of the Gardens. There is something deeply tragic about each of the sons. Their vulnerability shines through at key moments. These are the most moving sections in the novel.
Compared to the men, the women seem less vulnerable. From a relatively minor character such as the exotic Somali sculptor Ubah Tuur to the “astonishing” Vasilisa who presides over the novel, their physical perfection and power over men make them both magnificent and slightly removed from the reader. Even when they suffer – and they do suffer, often because of actions taken by the men – we rarely get inside their souls in quite the same way as we do with the men. At one point René makes a telling statement when he says, “‘The art of the cinema,’ Truffaut allegedly said, ‘is to point the camera at a beautiful woman.’” It is perhaps fitting then that our narrator is a filmmaker.
Watching from the window
However, this does not mean that the women are not interesting or indeed fascinating. And no one is more so than the one whose machinations change the destiny of the Goldens: the Russian émigré Vasilisa. At once goddess and witch, Vasilisa is seductive, manipulative, and ruthless. It is her all-encompassing ambition of living a life “worthy of her beauty” that propels the plot forward. In a book about immigrants, Vasilisa embodies the immigrant desire to start over. “The past,” she says, “is a broken cardboard suitcase full of photographs of things I no longer wish to see.” Contradicting forces for good and evil literally struggle within her soul. Again, this seems more mythic than human, but whether or not she will ultimately prove to be one or the other is one of the many mysteries the narrator will have to uncover.
The auteur-narrator makes numerous references to movies throughout, and the influence of cinema, both on him and on the novel, is unmistakable. Like Jeff in Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, René watches the Goldens – and other neighbors – from his home, overhearing noises and catching glimpses of scenes that hint at secrets and scandals. He soon discovers that the place the Goldens have fled is none other than Bombay. His research – and imagination – reveal that they left behind a city infested with corruption and crime, a world of underworld violence and international terrorism. “The worlds are less different than we pretend,” Nero tells him.
Initially, René is only a witness, but soon he finds himself becoming a participant and getting further and further entangled in the events. Poet, philosopher, and chronicler, René serves as the conscience of the book. And while he is flawed and complicit in the events that unfold, he says, “Allow me this at least: that I am self aware.” That he is, and it makes him the most endearing character of all.
Truth and lies
Even though this is not a work of magical realism, the distinction between lies and truth is often blurred. The Goldens of course tell “stories about themselves, stories in which essential information about origins was either omitted or falsified.” The characters frequently betray each other. The structure of the book further contributes to the blending of lies and truth, as René begins to invent scenes for his film in progress. Several sections are written as script, with scenes dissolving or ending with the director’s cut, and the camera zooming in and out. Some include voiceovers and other stylised effects. At times it’s difficult to say what really takes place and what is invented by René. If you don’t know the truth, fellow filmmaker Suchitra tells him, use your imagination.
Meanwhile, even as truth and lies begin to collide inside the Gardens, outside it, in the wider world of America, the greatest betrayal of all begins to take shape. The world readies itself for the 45th US presidential elections between two unlikely contenders. On the one hand there is Batwoman, “who owned her dark side, but used it to fight for good, justice, and the American way.” On the other is the Joker – a green-haired, white-faced, red-lipped, real estate tycoon who is “utterly and certifiably insane.”
Rushdie uses rants by minor characters on the streets of Manhattan, as well as observations by our protagonists, to explore the growing “discontent of a furiously divided country.” It is tempting to find the author’s own well-known views on certain topics in the characters, for instance, when Apu chastises “wishy washy” liberals for attempting to sanitise language due to political correctness, or when René defends his suspicion of organised religion. While much of this author’s prior work has dealt with political events, this book’s preoccupation with many of the burning issues of the day makes it particularly urgent and relevant.
The personal and the political
Of all those issues, the question of gender identity is especially prominent. The Museum of Identity where Riya works represents the quest for identity in general, but for D, this quest is very personal. “Come inside and learn about the new world,” Riya tells him. What follows is an education, mostly about transitioning and “gender identity, splitting as never before in human history, spawning whole new vocabularies that tried to grasp the new mutabilities.” Some of their dialogue on this subject sounds didactic, like an introductory lecture on the transgender community for a beginner, which of course is what D is. Nevertheless, the effect of this new education on him is profound and real and will eventually lead to the most poetic, moving section in the book.
Rushdie’s prose is as always both dazzling and dizzying. Replete with clever wordplay and digressions, it includes allusions to Shakespeare, Greek tragedy, the ancient Chinese hexagrams of divination, the 1956 chess Game of the Century between Bobby Fischer and Donald Byrne, video games, superheroes, and Seinfeld, to name only a small fraction. References to current affairs range from Planned Parenthood and the Occupy Wall Street movement in the United States to the telecommunications scam and the 2008 terror attack against Bombay’s Taj Mahal Hotel in India.
People often appear and disappear within a few lines, but are given their own histories and eccentricities. They are, in René’s words, “minor characters who might not make it past the cutting room floor.” These people, like some of their dialogues and many of the allusions, might at times seem a tad gratuitous. The long, packed, meandering sentences can feel overwhelming. But, then, so is New York. Together, the obviously significant and the apparently insignificant help create the teeming, chaotic world of the city to which the book is a tribute of sorts.
The novel can be read as a chronicle of America in recent years, leading up to the present, troubled, Presidency. But that is only a part of it. At the heart lies a page-turner that is the stuff of blockbusters. There’s something breathtaking about the combination of contemporary events that we have all witnessed and are part of even now, and the gripping story of crime and passion, all narrated in such baroque prose.
Much suspense is created through René’s laments as he recollects events of the past eight years. Statements such as “it concerned all of us less than it should have,” and “I should have known there would be trouble,” suggest impending doom. Always, looming over us is the premonition of tragedy. “What would it mean,” René ponders, “if the Joker became the King?” The innocence, of both the Gardens and of Obama’s inauguration in 2009, cannot be sustained. This is the tale of a dysfunctional family within a dysfunctional nation, both hurtling toward disaster. At times it may be horrifying to watch, but it is impossible to look away.

The free WatchESPN app lets you keep up with your sports anytime, anywhere on your Windows 8 computer or tablet. Watch live games and studio shows with 24/7 access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU.
Accessing your favorite live sports and shows from ESPN is now easier than ever with WatchESPN. WatchESPN brings you 24/7 live programming from your favorite ESPN networks on your computer, smart.
ESPN has officially killed off WatchESPN, first launched in April 2011 to provide pay-TV customers authenticated access to live games, in a move to simplify its app portfolio and co.
Our Verdict
Cable sports giant ESPN offers a mobile app that lets you watch live sports and shows on your iPhone or iPad no matter where you happen to be. The app is called WatchESPN. And I would certainly love to, if I could get the app to dependably stream video.
WatchESPN has been available on the App Store for more than a year now, though the app originally was limited to select cable providers. When ESPN added Comcast to the ESPNWatch fold earlier this year, I finally got the chance to sample the app and its streaming options—not just the ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU cable channels but also sports being shown on the company’s ESPN3 online channel. (An updated list of cable providers that support WatchESPN is available on the app’s App Store page.)
Getting started with WatchESPN is an uncomplicated process. You choose your cable provider from the list displayed in the app. The sign-in procedure may vary from there, but if you’re a Comcast customer like me, you sign in using your Comcast ID from within the app. I was even able to retrieve my forgotten password from within WatchESPN. And I can remain logged in, so that I only have to sign in initially.
Watchespn App
From there, you jump to a screen listing all the programs currently available for live streaming. Both the iPad and iPhone versions of WatchESPN have a carousel displaying featured programing, along with a scrollable list; the iPad uses its extra screen real estate to offer some different views of content.
It’s once you tap on an event or show in the list that the magic—or disappointment—begins. After a short wait, the stream of your program begins playing. Whether or not it will continue playing, however, can be a hit or miss affair. I’ve put the app through its paces for the past week, and I can’t claim to have gotten a consistent experience. At its best, WatchESPN will continuously pipe live sports action to your iPhone or iPad, with the occasional buffering hiccup. And at its worst? The app will lose the stream entirely, bouncing you back to the list of available programs. Sometimes in my testing, the picture would freeze and then speed up to catch up with the live stream; other times, I’d lose the video entirely (though the audio would continue to play), with no apparent way to bring it back.
This isn’t necessarily ESPN’s fault. Its app is at the mercy of whatever network you happen to be connected to, and if you’re out and about, that can change as rapidly as the momentum in a Stanley Cup playoff game.
I had my best success with the app when I stayed in one place with a strong Wi-Fi or 3G signal—I was able to watch a France-Serbia soccer friendly or the latest episode of SportsCenter without any show-stopping problems. Unfortunately, that doesn’t really mirror the most likely use case for WatchESPN: You’re likely to use the app when you’re on the go. I tried watching a baseball game on my evening commute ride home on public transit, for example, and would lose the feed anytime my ride hit an area where AT&T’s network coverage was less than optimal. Again, ESPN can’t do much about that, but when all I want to do is check in on a baseball game and I can’t, I don’t really care whether the app or my wireless carrier is at fault.
To ESPN’s credit, it does a good job with the things that are in its control. Besides the smooth login process, WatchESPN does make it very easy to find programming to watch, whether it’s live events or replays of already-completed games. The app also offers multiple ways to search for upcoming events by sport or channel. That said, the app only offers a list of upcoming events—it would be nice if I could set a reminder that the app will be streaming next week’s Poland-Greece European Championships opener rather than having to rely on my dodgy memory.
An app like WatchESPN exists so that rabid sports fans like myself can take comfort in the knowledge that a must-see game is only just a few taps away. For that app to be a success, I need to know that if I happen to be away from my TV when some athlete somewhere is doing something amazing, all I have to do is take out my iPhone, fire up WatchESPN, and enjoy the sweet relief of live video. The app can’t do that dependably—not at this point, at any rate. It’s worth having on your iOS device as an option for viewing live sports, but you need to be ready to live with WatchESPN’s current limitations.
