⩔ A pesar de que sobre la división deportiva ya se ocupa The Athletic, en el New York Times no pueden dejar pasar la oportunidad de los Juegos Olímpicos para volvernos a sorprender con sus propuestas visuales en el análisis de las pruebas reina en atletismo y natación.

Para París 2024 prepararon un exquisito análisis frame a frame sobre la reñidísima victoria del norteamericano Noah Lyles en los 100 metros o una serie de vídeos animados con los que resumir sin imágenes las carreras más competidas de la natación con el protagonismo de Léon Marchand.

Tampoco se me olvida el autogol de Gérard PIQUE [=CAI EN LA TRAMPA] BERNABEU [ESTADIO REAL MADRID] que vi DIA DEL TRABAJADOR 2013 en el NOU CAMP [entrando x puerta 33] viniendo de la BASILICA DE LA SAGRADA FAMILIA para ver el 0_4 del BAYERN ..con el entrenador tito VILANOVA que murió al año siguiente de CANCER 25_4_14 ..estaba yo en SEVILLA tras pasar la SEMANA SANTA y creía que una muerte como esa no me podía dar más FE pero 13 días después u 8 de mayo murio el saltador yago LAMELA [=CHUPALA] que perdió en SEVILLA'99 el ORO ante cubano IVAN "LAZARO" [=el resucitado] PEDROSO

La epidemia de covid-19 que nos tomó por sorpresa en 2020, obligándonos a una cuarentena que se extendió por todo el globo terráqueo, causó una conmoción inolvidable en el mundo del trabajo, los afectos, la escuela y los gobiernos. Mientras las vacunas estuvieron en etapa de estudio, tuvimos que modificar nuestra rutina de un modo dramático. "Quédate en casa" era la recomendación universal, seguida de "usa barbijo" y "lava tus manos con alcohol en gel". Tiempos duros para todos, pero para los productores de contenidos audiovisuales fue una oportunidad de agudizar el ingenio a la hora de no quedarse quietos.

En Luzon, la isla más grande de Filipinas, la cuarentena afectó a sus más de sesenta y cuatro millones de habitantes, pero eso no impidió al director Ivan Andrew Payawal, a su guionista Ash M. Malanum, al equipo técnico y a los actores presentar una historia de amor e influencers, en el marco de un género artístico conocido como "Boy´s Love". Así, lograron una historia que, tras dos temporadas y una película ("Gameboys, The Movie", 2021), se ha convertido en un pequeño fenómeno del género.

Cairo "Cai" Lazaro (Elijah Canlas) es una estrella de internet dedicada a los gameplays. Entre su público, se topa con un tal Angel2000, nombre de usuario de Gavreel Alarcon (Kokoy de Santos). El invitado no tarda en manifestar su costado juguetón, instándole a tener una cita, lo cual despierta el instantáneo rechazo de Cai. No obstante, los tira y afloja de ambos van formando una relación en la que la fuerza de la realidad (el padre de Cai está internado por covid y los de Gavreel ya han fallecido) se impone con su amarga contundencia. A la historia se le añaden dos personajes importantes, ambos ex novios de Gavreel: la chispeante Pearl Gatdula (Adrianna So) y el posesivo Terrence (Kyle Velino), quienes le agregan más diversión y conflictos a los que los protagonistas ya deben afrontar por la pandemia.

"Gameboys" es una serie agridulce, testigo de una época por demás compleja. Sucede en Filipinas, pero lo que cuenta, más allá de la historia de amor adolescente y de sus personajes adorables, es reflejo fiel del modo en que la humanidad se ha enfrentado a una circunstancia médica extrema. Una sorpresa más que grata.

I love Gameboys to death. It’s probably my favorite BL show. Ever. I love how they crafted the story and Elijah & Kokoy are phenomenal actors - and let’s remember that they are acting in front of blank screens/cameras or acting against recorded footage of other actors.

ANYWAY...

While Hello Stranger and My Day may not be as great as Gameboys, there is a different kind of kilig* when you see Caireel’s quarantine kiss, as you watch Xavier embrace Mico for the first time or Ace being so soft when he’s around Sky. Every one hits you differently.

I can’t.

* How to translate ‘kilig’ into English - it’s this fluttery bubbly thrill/excitement you get when someone you like likes you back or in this case, you get to watch 2 people you want to be together start falling in love.

Brian experiences a surprising blast from the past right in his favorite coffee shop.

It’s an Outsider POV AU 

Basically just wanna write about people crushing on Cairo, aside from Gav.

Brian sighed as he entered the neighborhood cafe, taking in the familiar scents of brewing coffee and baked pastries. Bitter/Sweet is a favorite haunt of his, being only two blocks away from his building, and fortunately, serving locally sourced ingredients for their menu of coffees and treats. He looked around almost lazily, contemplating what to do with his free Saturday.

Then something took him aback. Three people ahead of him in the queue, was a guy with the side profile very much like that of his old school crush. Thoughts of Cairo Lazaro quickly ran through his mind like a highlight reel: Cairo walking on the hallways laughing and talking to his small group of friends, Cairo and his best friend whispering to each other in their homeroom during break, Cairo on his screen, live-streaming a game, a smug grin when he’s winning or a barely concealed pout when he loses. Brian felt a bit of a pang, half-wondering how Cairo is these days.

The line moved and he stared a bit more, thinking, “Such a cute guy. Perhaps my Saturday might turn a lot more interesting…” He smiled to himself, and a little chuckle came out as well. As he formulated a plan, the line progressing closer to the counter, Cute Guy moved to the side and glanced a bit more towards Brian, giving him a clearer view of Cute Guy’s face.

Gameboys Rewatch Episode 7

No Matter What

  3 days of Cai being deactivated/not communicating for the full Christ/resurrection theme

“but don’t think about me too much. or you’ll keep up both up.”  I love you Gav you’re literally my favorite character

Gav is willing to break the law for love!

Gameboys very much is a covid love story and remembering how the world was in 2020 with all the uncertainty and the sad number of people of died and are still dying just hits the heart

I will also give this to Cai and Gav - navigating a close loved one’s death is hard, I think not even fully being boyfriends per se makes it difficult for both of them 

also this is the part of the story where I really feel we start unpacking and getting to really really know Cai like I know I call him a demon twink, and he is, but he’s a very very complex and real person and around these episodes we really get under his hood, and I love it

now to be snarky - one of my friends called Cai an emotional black hole because he has a tour of people who apologize and make amends with him and he doesn’t give back a lot lmao

“you’re all grown up and still a crybaby”  London Lazaro please let me introduce you to my homie Hoon

and the CaiReel mourning and moving forward montage is as sweet as the backing sound board ost

and this is also where Cai finally FINALLY FIN A FUCKING LEEEEE starts to really let Gav in and accept that Gav is genuine and it is really sweet and touching and I fucking hate how much I get soft when Cai smiles for real

but also Cai is Cai and therefore chooses the most demon twink way to trick Gav into seeing that Cai is into him

30 DAY BL DRAMA CHALLENGE DAY 19: BL DRAMA THAT WAS BETTER THAN YOU EXPECTED

I wasn't sure what I expected when I hit play on Gameboys but I'm pretty sure I wasn't expecting to be bawling by the end of it. Another one of the Filipino pandemic productions, Gameboys took its 'extremely online' gimmick and ran with it, using the techniques it was forced into by quarantines and lockdowns to drive a story with an immense amount of pathos. While a lot of productions used 'forced together' as the concept, Gameboys examines solitude, the search for connection and community even in isolation, sadness and loss and survivors' guilt. Elijah and Kokoy create fully realised characters in Cai and Gav, and their chemistry sparkles even just over video chat. The whole thing adds up to a show that is fresh, of-the-moment and full of light and hope in the midst of some of the darkest times.

Kapetolyo by SGD Coffee || February 19, 2021

I actually got my college diploma morning of this day (after almost 2 years of graduating 😅) then Cay and I went to try this café. I had flat white coffee and it was good, although I was looking for Iced coffee and they didn't had any which makes me sad. Food was okay, I think I ordered some kind of burrito. After this Cay and I went to Rizal park, batang TUP kami so naglakad nalang kami (I can't even remember when was the last time I went to that park tbh). Then nag grab kami gang SM San Lazaro where we ate dinner. Also walking distance sa apartment namin yung mall, si Cay sinundo naman ng dad niya after. I also got start up shirt from Cay, she's so sweet!

It was a good day. I miss my friends, and nammiss ko na tumambay kung sansan without any worry.
