something that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking about Caleb is the way he consistently continues to fight his fate, despite every sign he encounters pointing toward its inevitability:

it's in the way he defies the Toring Chip, and the meaning of 7%

When Caleb falls apart on the bench with MC and the chip resets in Farspace Bloomfall, 100% of his mind is supposed to reset.... and yet only 93% of the chip is integrated and able to do so.

We know Caleb is aware of this too, when he tells MC to tell him about her problems “while I can still respond.” Because he knows he'll inevitably lose some information once it happens, like the 'patrol data' Enforcer mentions.

This means it’s happened before, Caleb's mind had been reset before. Which means, he knows if the chip’s integrity ever gets to 100% and resets, anything he feels toward MC will also reset. And so..

“…he’s purposefully ‘sealed’ his brain rather than damaging it.”

So Caleb gathered up every emotion, every memory, and every impression of MC in his mind, wrapped it all together into one small piece, and has since, against all odds, continuously used his Evol to put a barrier around it, to protect it. To keep the chip from finding it and wiping it. And what is that piece? That 7%?

7% is MC. 7% is his memories of MC. 7% is his love for MC.

it's in the way he's turned himself from "perfect weapon to destroy each other" to "perfect weapon to destroy others"

I could be wrong (please correct me), but I'm pretty sure it's murky right now whether Caleb (subject 002?) knew MC during any of her 'incarnations' in the lab and/or their purposes to be a killswitch for each other. But if he does know or remember any of it, the protection of that 7% from the Toring Chip becomes even more vital and strategic as all hell.

Because that would mean Caleb orchestrated a situation where he's become the lab subject, a decoy in MC's place as they try and correct the chip within him.

And that would mean that Caleb planned for them to "sacrifice a great deal to obtain him," — apparently, so much that they're unwilling/unable to simply dispose of him when he's resisting the very thing that would seal his fate as "the key", as MC's killswitch.

and it's in the literal beat of his heart

when you lay your hand over caleb's heart to hear his heartbeat, no matter how fast that beat starts out, if you hold your hand there long enough, his heartbeat inevitably tapers into a calm 50-60.

Despite all he's doing to preserve that 7%, he can't fight the nature of the other 93%. The nature of the chip and it's purpose to keep him in an emotional stasis.

His excitement to see you, his happiness to have you there, the fluttering of his heart? Those are abnormalities to the chip, those aren't in line with what that stasis is supposed to be. And so... no matter how quickly his heart beats for you initially, it inevitably gets suppressed.

We see how it affects other members of the Fleet too. How all of them have accepted the inevitability of the chip. Tuum Officer No. 6025 and Liam in particular shows us exactly what it looks like to give in.

And yet, every time you come back, Caleb's still excited, Caleb still fights it. He's fighting it with only 7% of his memory, he's fighting it with every quickened beat of his heart.

If the chip is a tether, if his fate is a tether, Caleb will never stop sawing at the strings, and i am not okay about it.

I honestly don’t think Caleb as much as a freak as everyone says. A perv maybe(lovveeee pervy Caleb)

But I don’t believe he’s choking you. I don’t think he’s a rough lover at all. After all he yearns. In fact I think he’d rather die than ever bruise you. I think he’d be extremely gentle. Almost too gentle. Like you’d have to reassure him. Constantly too. Not to mention I think he’d be sorta pathetic. Just all puppy eye and willing to bend at your mercy. Want him on the floor? Got it. Want him on top? Easy. Want him to eat you out for hours? Already ahead of you. ALSO I don’t think he’d degrade you either. He’s only praising. I cannot CAN NOTTT IMAGINE THIS MAN saying ANYTHING mean about you. ESPECIALLY CALLING YOU A bitch or a slut. Like Caleb? The man who would die for you KILL for you. Caleb the type of guy that would threaten somebody because they called you out of your name. He could never. He would tease though. That’s just who he is. Like “why are you so bossy?” Even though he’s doing whatever you’ve asked. This man would be such a gentle lover. I mean he’s been yearning for literally ever. And finally he gets the chance to explore your body?!?!? He’d take it painfully slow. In fear of hurting you or scaring you but also in awe. Like he cannot believe he’s the one that gets to see you like this.

DO NOT GET ME WRONNGG he is very very very possessive though. He’d say little things like “im the only one who gets to see you like this,” it’ll sound like a question but it’s not. Or the way his hands caress every curve. Not only is he basically worshipping but he’s printing it to memory. The thought of being the only man who sees you like this. Knows you like this. Hears and feels you like this. It gets him GOING. Like simply telling him you belong to him?!?!? That’s his Achilles' heel.

But if you’re into the choking and the berating he’d try. It would take him awhile but he could do it. Especially if that’s what you want oh hell yea. Like he’d choke you. Maybe even slap you not too hard. Never. Might even call you a bad girl. But never bitch. Maybe slut. Never ever bitch. Just the thought of calling you a bitch turns him off.

BUT BUT BUT BUTTT i believe there are two sides of Caleb. Childhood friend, the boy you grew up with and chip in his neck colonel. Which breaks my heart. I feel like you wouldn’t see him often. Like the Caleb reintroduction type beat. Like when he’s integrating you. Or the “I’ve always held myself back and endured. Day,after day, it was suffocating,” LIKE the best example is in the farspace bloomfall card. Where he’s like “let’s go back. Or else you’ll catch a cold,” then he goes to pull you off the bench but you don’t move and he kinda stares at you. LIKEEE AHHH like it breaks my heart but like I hope you know what I mean. Like that man would be the freak everyone writes about. (Still not calling you out of your name) I think he’d be more condescending. Again another example of “you can’t convince yourself to hate me with every fiber of your being can’t you agree?” CHATZ ITS THE WAY HE SAYS IT. Like this is the man that is rough. Who chokes you. Like his emotions are so unstable thisss is the freak. Likeee this is the only time he’s ever rough with you IN THE GAME. It’s like high stressful moment for him. That’s the only time he manhandle you. It’s def because of the chip and that destroys me.

I hope this 4am babbling made sense. Long story short I ADORE CALEB SO MUCH LIKE I LOVE HIM!! Sometimes I feel like he gets the same mischaracterization as Sylus does.

i was able to r3 farspace colonel without spending money 😭 i’m so proud of myself

i had 380 blue pulls saved as well as 700 stardust saved (which i converted to pulls for the standard banner to get 2 selector crates + got lucky enough to pull farspace bloomfall from it) and i had saved a selector crate from the last event

i did pull his limited at pull pity but at least i won the rate up 🤍🍎

I love everything about Caleb but the thing I like about him the most is the way he is so obviously delusional. I remember looking back at chapter four, I couldn't stop thinking about it and specifically this line; "... If not for me who else would you turn to for..." He stops his sentence but it's clear that it wasn't until that light passing by that even for a split second, a moment there could be someone we trust more than him. Or even that we wouldn't trust him at all.

I get the same vibe from the showcase of his card, Farspace Bloomfall, specifically this line;

To Caleb, I'm sure that even if he can accept us being angry, acknowledge it he wouldn't be able to ever wrap the mere idea that we could ever completely, entirely hate him (and he's absolutely correct).

After all, we're so close. We grew up together, we probably experienced so many memories, and so many complex emotions. From all the happy moments to all the sad moments. He knows us well, too well. The same way we know our gun, how to aim, how to fire, how to most efficiently deal with a wanderer. Caleb in fact knows us so well he knows exactly how to appeal to us; how to manipulate us, how to make us tick. I don't even doubt there are things about us he knows that even we don't considering the explosion and his following shift in demeanor/character.

Considering that, is it then, not only natural that he's the first person we run to? The one we rely on the most, the one we trust the most?

Is it then not common sense that he's the most obvious option, the only option the same way we've always been for him?

After all, he knows us the best, whether it's as the reliable gege who's always been there to protect us or the Caleb who's always loved us even when we never realized it.

⚠️Caleb myth and story spoilers ahead ⚠️

okay so I just finished Caleb’s myth and everything makes so much more sense now. I had a suspicion that Caleb was chipped from the get go and his myth confirmed it. But it seems like everyone who gets the chip implanted in them has their memories erased and they become cold and emotionless. Which explains the drastic shift in Caleb’s personality (Though he has always been protective over MC since their childhood).

I think the myth was an excellent bridge to the gaps in the main story. I was wondering though how he still has his memories and affection towards MC intact. Because we saw what the chip did to Kevi in the main story and Liam in the myths. It made sense towards the end of the myth though where it’s revealed by professor Lucius and the scientist that Caleb has essentially compartmentalized (or black holed if you will) his memories of MC to the point that the chip is unable to touch or erase those memories. So in Farspace bloomfall, when he reaches an emotional threshold, the chip attempts to erase his memories for him to regain stability. So he temporarily forgets exactly who MC is but still remembers the way she makes him feel and has vague recollections of her. Also MC 100% matches Caleb’s freak in the myth and the chip definitely influences actions to some degree at least.

Anyway, from my understanding, Ever (who I assume Professor Lucius is working for) is after MC’s aether core or in fact someone who can harness the power of the aether core. MC (and Caleb I think) were experimented on as children with Granny Josephine heading the team and MC was the most successful candidate out of the experiments. But Granny’s conscience kicked in and she left with them. But Ever is still after MC because she’s the ideal candidate for their experiment. Ever is basically trying to convert human beings to wanderers but everytime they attempt the experiment, the protocores destabilize. But the aether core in MC’s heart is somehow stable which is why they’re so intent on finding her.

So Caleb has volunteered himself up to be experimented on by trying to convince them that he’d be a greater asset and a better candidate for the experiments, in an attempt to protect MC. But they’re only planning to keep him around until he becomes ‘useless’. With the chip as well, it seems like their objective is to create people with no ‘weaknesses’. Basically a new kind of human + wanderer super being I think? Idk feel free to correct me.

Either way my heart hurts for Caleb. He truly has been through a lot. I’m gonna assume that when Caleb and MC were experimented on as kids, Caleb watch MC die and come back to life and being put through the trials. MC remembers none of this, but maybe Caleb does? Which would explain the need to protect MC. Also, his willingness to throw himself in harms way and have anything happen to him as long as MC is safe. Ugh. I think he’s playing double agent at the moment. He’s trying to take down Ever from within if that makes sense? Being a colonel as well gives him that reach. I think he knows he’s running on borrowed time because he mentions that MC’s powers haven’t awakened or become stronger so, it’s only a matter of time before Ever starts actively pursuing MC and deem him useless. Maybe that’s why he’s so frantic? Idk I can only assume.

Farspace Colonel (FA) is Caleb's 5-star solar myth companion that unlocks when you obtain both Farspace Bloomfall and Farspace Deprivation. This single-target burst DPS companion grants the ability to always break a minimum of two protocore shields using the Resonance Skill (no skill energy required) and extends weakness state by two seconds. It primarily scales off DEF rather than Attack and its stellacrum is red. (DEF substats should be prioritised)

Here are DSV's protocore recommendations! BETAS should be chosen based on the Memory Pair Rank of your companion

if anyone’s curious, i lost to caleb’s farspace bloomfall card. maybe this is how it’s meant to be bc during tomorrow’s catch-22, i got caleb’s card but not his outfit set. 😀

at the very least i got his spring fit. they all look so good, but i cannot stop looking at sylus—the neckline is low, yes, but i didn’t realize it was this low compared to the others.

i’ve seen a few videos noting that their pulls have been getting worse since catch-22 and you know what, i really felt that after losing in this banner—i am beyond devastated still!

but, but.
