On Fandom

 mentioned in my Introductory Post that I would make another post about my fannish interests - and this is that post.

I'm only really in one fandom - Stargate. The original movie, SG-1 and Atlantis. I didn't really gel with Universe, I haven't seen (or am at all inclined to do so) Infinity or Origins. My heart definitely belongs to SG-1 though which I have loved since I was a pre-teen

Pairing wise, It's Jack/Daniel. I have been shipping them before I knew what shipping was, before I knew what sex was - and even more so after! I'm not an OTP person though and will ship pretty much anyone/everyone. Especially anyone/Daniel, with Daniel on bottom. I enjoy most combinations of Jack/Sam/Daniel, Cam/Sam/Daniel/Vala. But my heart will always belong to Jack/Daniel

I don't watch a huge amount of TV/movies, and when I do, I tend to stick to the ones I know and love. Indiana Jones, The Librarian, The Mummy, National Treasure, Tomb Raider, Charmed, Farscape, The Librarians, Relic Hunter, The Sentinel I have recently enjoyed The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, A Discovery Of Witches, and Blood and Treasure. As well as that random interest in Ancient Aliens. There's a National Treasure show on Disney+ that I want to see, and I do want to try the Charmed remake. Essentially, I love cheesy, fun, treasure-hunting - but also witches!

I can't pick a favourite book, I never have been able to. I'm usually reading 2 books at a time, one non-fiction and one fiction

Music-wise I love heavy metal and my favourite band will always be Iron Maiden. I also really like Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Korn, Rammstein, Slipknot, Disturbed, System Of A Down and Avenged Sevenfold.

Saw the comment a while back that Sam “collects brothers like Pokémon” and my brain chirped this Siblings AU out like a dot matrix printer:

Sam - Oldest sister, but not the oldest sibling. Has eldest daughter syndrome. Brilliant and has no problem keeping up with the boys, but often saddled with additional physical and emotional responsibilities/burdens. Both within the family (at first) and societally, she keeps being pigeonholed as “The Girl” and has to fight it tooth and nail.

Teal’c - Oldest brother. Half-brother from a prior relationship. Big age gap. Bit of a culture difference due to the other side of his family. His name is from his other parent’s culture. He took the English name “Murray” for professional reasons, but his younger half-sibs are all good eggs and use his true name. Was the only child for a long time before the younger batch came along. Recognizes and respects Sam’s efforts and always treats her as an equal.

Cam - Older brother. But only by like a year or two. Oldest full sibling and left the household as soon as possible for school/work, but came back into the fold later. Not as close with the siblings when he first came back and had to rebuild the relationship. He knows everything about them on paper but had to work to emotionally connect. Technically, he’s the oldest of the full-sibs, but he defers to Sam and her experience. More like co-captains.

Daniel - Sam’s twin. Her partner in crime. Closest of all the siblings. But she’s 7 and a half minutes older and never lets him forget it. Equally brilliant but in different ways. Always ready to sass with each other. But while Sam was parentified, he was more free, being a younger son and all. Since Sam bears more familial responsibility, Daniel is more able to follow his heart and go outside the lines.

Vala - Younger sister. She and Sam didn’t get along when they were little; she resisted Sam’s attempts at parenting (not realizing until she was older that the parentification was forced on Sam). The black sheep. The rebellious one who left the house at a young age and got herself into some heinous situations out in the world. After returning home, her relationship with Sam is strained and awkward at first, but the two eventually grow close.

Jonas - Baby brother. Wildly intelligent and a bit sheltered. The optimist. Even more of an idealist than Daniel and that’s saying something. Brings out the best in all of his siblings. Sam is protective of him… but she’s still his sister and she’s still gonna give him a hard time now and again, that’s just what siblings do.

I have permanent samjack shipping goggles welded to my face and I am physically incapable of seeing Jack as a sibling/blood relative, so…

Jack - Oldest brother Teal’c’s best friend. Meets Daniel long before he meets Sam and after a rocky start to the friendship, he ends up close with Daniel too. Hears all about her from the boys, but doesn’t meet Sam until later. Even in a version of this AU with no military regs, there’s still a barrier between them; the age gap and the fact that she’s the sister of his friends makes a relationship between them taboo. At first. They get over it.

Stargate character analysis

Based on how they’d act at a minimum wage job inspired by my actual behavior.

Jack: He’s the type to show up to work in his pajamas, clock in, and then take an hour long shit before finally getting changed into his uniform. His shift starts at 5am on paper, but in practice it starts at 6:15. Time theft king. (Me while working at Canadian grocery chain that rhymes with blah blahs)

Sam: 15 minutes early for being 15 minutes early. She shows up and sits in the parking lot for 15 minutes before she goes into work and then sits there for another 15 minutes before her start time. However, if she notices something that needs to be done, she’ll do it before clocking in just so she doesn’t need to do it later. (Me when I worked at Sephora)

Daniel: kind of like Sam but hates his boss so he does everything he’s told to do but vagues about his boss online on anonymous accounts. Partial to the tradie breakfast (gas station coffee and pastry). Says he’s not stressed about work but has had anxiety about it since he went in for the interview. (Me when I worked at Canadian Old Lady Clothes Emporium with a duck as the logo)

Teal’c: Shows up at exactly his shift time and then makes a coffee before doing anything. Afterwards he just vibes and gives cryptic lore updates to anyone who comes by his desk. Has unionized himself and takes half hour long breaks and 1.25 hour lunch breaks. Spends his downtime engaging with hobbies. (Me when I worked at my town’s visitor’s centre)

Jonas: Interchangeable with Daniel. It’s always a toss up of who will show up for the shift. Has a panic attack when he can’t find his uniform. Beloved by management because he constantly seems like a baby animal who shouldn’t be at work, crushed by the weight of capitalism and yet he’s there doing his best. Protected by his coworkers because he’s constantly victimized by weird customers. (Me at the grocery store I worked at when I was 14)

Vala: straight up vibing. Pops an Adderall and downs 2 red bulls and calls it breakfast. Not sober when she wakes up? No problem! Have a shot as a pick me up and stroll into work because minimum wage isn’t worth the hassle of being sober. Watches people steal and just tells them where the camera blind spots are. They call her 007: 0 effort, 0 work done, 7 smoke breaks. Vapes in the receiving area and entertains truckers with her immeasurable amount of rizz. Almost fired for unionizing the old people in the smoking area but quits before they can actually fire her. (Me again working at Canadian Grocery Chain that rhymes with blah blahs)

Janet: receptionist who has a license to be incredibly mean to anyone who walks in. Shows up 10 minutes late every day because she has to pop into everyone’s office to say “omg hiiiiii!!” on her way to her office. Everyone loves her. Makes coffee when she knows the 60 year old lady from finance who knows all the gossip will be in the break room. Keeps the entire office together by being Radar O’Reilly. (Me when I temped at town hall)

Cam: he’s the young supervisor who ended up becoming a supervisor against his will who shows up with a litre of coffee every morning. Constantly forgets that he’s a supervisor so gossips with staff for like five minutes before his face goes blank and goes “shit, uh, we gotta get back to work” and then doesn’t. Whenever someone comes in late and apologizes for it he goes “nah don’t worry, I wish I wasn’t here too, take your time, I’ll adjust the punches.” Everyone thinks he’s cool but he’s actually just too stressed about potentially needing to write someone up that he’d rather just not see it. Gets all his work done and the team is always more productive when he’s there. (Me when I worked at the old lady clothes emporium)

General Hammond: retires by opening a business and not retiring at all. Effectively has the business to get out of the house. Hours are whenever he’s around. Picks a location close to his dentist and doctor’s office so he can close the store and walk there when he needs to go to an appointment. Spends his days talking to his friends and engaging with his hobbies. (My dad and the record store we opened together because he couldn’t stand doing nothing all day)

Harry Meybourne: calls in sick because he’s hungover or because it’s too nice out or something. Performs well at his job when he bothers to show up, really milking the labour shortage for everything it’s worth. Says he can’t work before 7am or after 9pm because he’s not able to drive when it’s dark. That’s a lie. (Me when I worked at McDonald’s when I was 17)
