You know what answer is probably true so I'm gonna give a less obvious one.

I think Gwen's room probably has no windows because her parents know she'd just sneak the fuck out easily with one. So I think of this hallway outside her room, late at night when cam can't sleep she just stands guard. She knows there's no real risk of anything happening, and I think that's part of why it makes her feel safe.

It lets her access her need to be useful, her compulsion to protect gwen, but with none of the baggage that normally comes with it.

Standing at attention outside the ornate, scratched and dented carved wooden door, clean boots on the on the dirty velvet floor, having a staring contest with the torn oil rendition of one of Gwen's many ancestors that hangs in the hallway. She feels like she belongs.
