Someone accessed my Gmail 2 days ago, compromising my linked accounts like Twitter and YouTube. Here's how it happened, why I fell for it, and what you can learn to avoid making the same mistake:
Tumblr media
The scam I fell victim to was a cookie hijack. The hacker used malicious software to steal my browser cookies (stuff like autofill, auto sign in, etc), allowing them to sign in to my Gmail and other accounts, completely bypassing my 2FA and other security protocols.
A few days ago, I received a DM from @Rachael_Borrows, who claimed to be a manager at @Duolingo. The account seemed legitimate. It was verified, created in 2019, and had over 1k followers, consistent with other managers I’d seen at the time n I even did a Google search of this person and didnt find anything suspicious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She claimed that @Duolingo wanted me to create a promo video, which got me excited and managed to get my guard down. After discussing I was asked to sign a contract and at app(.)fastsigndocu(.)com. If you see this link, ITS A SCAM! Do NOT download ANY files from this site.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I downloaded a file from the website, and it downloaded without triggering any firewall or antivirus warnings. Thinking it was just a PDF, I opened it. The moment I did, my console and Google Chrome flashed. That’s when I knew I was in trouble. I immediately did an antivirus scan and these were some of the programs it found that were added to my PC without me knowing:
Tumblr media
The thing about cookie hijacking is that it completely bypasses 2FA which should have been my strongest line of defense. I was immediately signed out of all my accounts and within a minute, they changed everything: passwords, 2FA, phone, recovery emails, backup codes, etc.
I tried all methods but hit dead ends trying to recover them. Thankfully, my Discord wasn’t connected, so I alerted everyone I knew there. I also had an alternate account, @JLCmapping, managed by a friend, which I used to immediately inform @/TeamYouTube about the situation
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the hackers turned my YouTube channel into a crypto channel and used my Twitter account to spam hundreds of messages, trying to use my image and reputation to scam more victims
Tumblr media
Thankfully, YouTube responded quickly and terminated the channel. Within 48 hours, they locked the hacker out of my Gmail and restored my access. They also helped me recover my channel, which has been renamed to JoetasticOfficial since Joetastic_ was no longer available.
Tumblr media
Since then, I’ve taken several steps to secure my accounts and prevent this from happening again. This has been a wake-up call to me, and now I am more cautious around people online. I hope sharing it helps others avoid falling victim to similar attacks. (End)
(side note) Around this time, people also started to impersonate me on TikTok and YouTube. With my accounts terminated, anyone searching for "Joetastic" would only find the imposter's profiles. I’m unsure whether they are connected or if it’s just an unfortunate coincidence, but it made the situation even more stressful.

Square Filled: "It's a success." for @mfbingo
Author’s Note: any and all comments are greatly appreciated <3
Tumblr media
x
Never did you think you would pack up your entire life just to move across the country for a job. Yet here you are. On a plane going to a state you’ve never been to before to start a job you never thought you’d get. You applied to be the technical analyst for the FBI after being the tech girlie for the LAPD. The job was so far out of reach so when you got the job, you almost shit your pants.
They wanted you to start right away so you had to pack up whatever you could and move out there immediately. For the next few weeks, you’ll be flying back to California to get the rest of your things. There is a cute little apartment you were lucky enough to find, so you were able to get some of your things shipped over there.
During the flight, you try to calm yourself with some relaxing music but your thoughts are too loud to silence. Instead, you take out your laptop and work on some code you’ve been dabbling in for the past few months. You can create a lot of code with your skills, but you decided to focus on hacking and digging in places you shouldn’t be.
Perfect for the FBI.
Two hours pass by while you’re creating a theme for a website when you notice it. Out of the corner of your eye, you see that your shoelace is untied. Your tray is down, your laptop and a snack rest upon it, and your bag is by your feet. It’s a fucking shoelace, Y/N. Ignore it. You try so hard for five minutes before you feel the urge to fix it. Maybe that’s why you’re so good at what you do. You pick at the details until what you’re left with is a pretty picture that’s easy to read.
Fixing your shoe is a need, not a want.
You keep shifting, hoping to get your foot closer to you so that you can tie your shoe, but to no avail.
“Do you need help?” You lift your eyes to look into honey-brown ones. The man on the aisle seat next to you has a kind smile on his face. “I can tie your shoe for you.”
“Why would you do that?” you ask without moving your foot.
The stranger holds up his phone which has a black screen. “My phone died, and I’m quite bored.”
“Okay,” you giggle.
You lift your foot and he rests it on his thigh. His long and nimble fingers grab both ends of your shoelace and start to tie it.
“No one quite knows the first time shoelaces were used to secure shoes. In fact, most reports indicate that shoelaces are as old as shoes themselves. Archaeologists believe that ancient peoples used shoelaces for the same reasons we currently use them, experimenting with materials to influence comfort, fit, and even style.”
“I didn’t know that.”
“Yeah. They think that about five thousand years ago, during the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age periods, cavemen and women also used specific shoelace designs to distinguish between tribes. Most importantly, shoelaces kept early man’s shoes tight and fitted, accommodating their need to travel long distances for food, water, and shelter without causing severe damage to their feet.”
“You just know everything, don’t you?”
“I am a certified genius,” he grins.
“Is that so?”
“Quite. Did you know there are multiple ways to tie your shoe?”
“Please divulge that information,” you smile.
“First, you have the standard tie.” He ties your shoe using the most basic method that every adult knows how to do. “We have the famous ‘Bunny Ears’ way.” He unties your shoe just to tie it again using what children call ‘bunny ears’ since the loops look like ears. “Third, we have the better bow shoelace knot.” It’s like standard but he wraps the shoelace twice around his finger instead of once. “Finally, a classic, the double knot for extra security. See? It’s a success.”
“Who knew there were multiple ways to tie a shoe,” you smile.
“I did, and now so do you.”
“I’m Y/N.”
He smiles and sets your foot down. “Spencer Reid.”
“So, are you flying away from home or toward it?”
“Toward it. I was visiting my mom in Texas for a week. What about you?”
“Toward my new home. I’m from California, but I got a new job in Virginia. I’m kind of nervous about it. I’ve never done anything like it before.”
“What is it?”
“Tech work. I have a masters in computer science. I worked for the LAPD before, but I couldn’t pass up on this offer. I’m kind of nervous, to be honest. I’ve never even stepped foot in Virginia before. I don’t know anyone here.”
“You know me,” Spencer smiles kindly.
“That I do.”
The rest of the flight is smooth sailing once you and Spencer fall into easy conversation. You didn’t even know three hours had passed because he was that easy to talk to. Like the gentleman he is, he walks you to baggage claim and waits for you to get your bag even when he grabs his.
“When do you start your new job?” he asks.
“Monday.”
“I know this might be a bit forward, but I’d love to show you around Virginia if you’re not busy this weekend. I’m sure you have a lot of unpacking to do.”
“Not that much. Like I said before, this was sudden. All my things are still in California. I’ll be moving them in gradually for the next month or so. I can hang out tomorrow if you’d like.”
“It’s a date,” he smiles. His words suddenly register in his head and he starts stuttering and blushing. “Not like a date, date. I meant that I’ll see you tomorrow as in it’s confirmed.”
“Spencer, it’s okay. It can be a date,” you laugh.
“Okay,” he blushes more.
“You’re cute. I have to pick up my rental so I’ll see you tomorrow.”
After exchanging phone numbers, you part ways. Your apartment is thirty minutes from the airport and already has the necessary furniture you had shipped over--bed, couch, dining table, and two chairs. The other things will come when you have time to bring them over. There are a few boxes you had shipped that contain kitchen and bathroom items so you don’t have to go out and buy all new things.
Before, you were nervous about starting this new job. Now, you’re nervous about your date with Spencer. He’s very cute and charming, but you don’t want to mess it up. Even if he isn’t boyfriend material, he definitely has the potential to be a really good friend. Look at you, already thinking about him as a boyfriend. You really are in over your head.
The next day, Spencer picks you up without a car. He likes using public transportation and refuses to even let you drive. You two started out in a cafe to get something to eat before he took you sightseeing around Virginia. There is a beautiful botanical garden here that is his favorite, so that’s where you two are.
“So, genius, have any facts or tidbits about this place?” you ask.
“The idea for this garden came from Thomas P. Thompson, Norfolk City Manager from 1935 to 1938, and Frederic Heutte, a young horticulturalist. Heutte had a fondness for azaleas and thought Hampton Roads had a climate uniquely suited for growing the plants. Thompson and Heutte believed that Norfolk could support an azalea garden to rival those of Charleston, SC, which even during the depression years drew thousands of tourists annually.”
“Wow, you’re just a fountain of knowledge.”
“That’s not all. Within less than a year, a section of underbrush had been cleared and readied for planting. By March of 1939, four thousand azaleas, two thousand rhododendrons, several thousand miscellaneous shrubs and trees, and one hundred bushels of daffodils had been planted.
“In August of 1939, Representative Colgate W. Darden Jr. secured an additional one hundred and thirty-eight thousand, five hundred and fifty-three dollars for the Azalea Garden, and the founding of the Old Dominion Horticultural Society provided volunteer labor to assist the Garden. By 1941, the Garden displayed nearly five thousand azaleas and seventy-five landscaped acres that were encompassed by five miles of walking trails.”
You don’t know Spencer well at all but hearing him spew facts like he has them stored in his brain for later brings a smile to your face.
“Well, they did a good job because this place looks beautiful.”
Spencer looks at you and smiles. “Yeah, it is.”
You and Spencer spend another hour walking around the garden while he tells you facts about the different flowers and plants. Afterward, he takes you to get ice cream before bringing you home. He walks up the porch steps leading to your apartment building, and you stop before you can open the door.
“Would you like to come in? I don’t have a lot of furniture, though.”
“I appreciate the offer, but no.” Before your shoulders can deflate, he quickly adds, “It’s not because I don’t want to. I do, but I want to do this right.”
“Right?” you ask.
Spencer smiles and he leans in closer to you. You stay completely still because you don’t want to mess this up. You don’t want to kiss him if that’s not his intention. He does kiss you but on your cheek. Even when he pulls away, you can still feel the skin he touches tingling.
“Goodnight, Y/N. Good luck on your first day.”
“Thanks,” you whisper.
“I’ll call you tomorrow to see how it’s going.”
With that, Spencer leaves. Thoughts of him swirl around in your head for the rest of the night, are embedded into your dreams, and even when you wake up. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. You get dressed and drive to the BAU where you’ll be working. Their current technical analyst is leaving so she’ll be training you to take her place.
After signing in at the lobby and getting your badge, you make your way to the floor where the BAU is. Penelope Garcia is waiting for you outside of the bullpen, and she smiles when she sees you.
“Y/N, right?”
“Yes, you must be Penelope Garcia, right? It’s nice to meet you. So, you’re leaving the BAU?”
“Yes, sad story. I love this team but I got a better job opportunity to work overseas. However, I trust that you will be more than happy here. I know you’ll do a great job because I picked you, and I’m never wrong. Let me introduce you to Hotch and the team.”
She takes you to Agent Hotchner’s office who is stern but welcoming. “You’ll be shadowing Garcia for a couple of weeks.”
“Yes, sir,” you nod.
“If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I’ll leave you in the trusty hands of Garcia.”
“Come on, let’s find the rest of the team.”
You meet JJ, Emily, Tara, Luke, and Matt, all of them friendly and welcoming. The last person on the team is someone you never thought would be here. Spencer turns with a coffee in hand, and his eyes widen when he sees you. Not out of shock, but pleasant surprise.
“Of course, you’d work here,” you chuckle.
“Do you two know each other?”
“Kind of. We met on the plane ride over here, and he showed me around Virginia over the weekend.”
“Look, I understand if you don’t want to see me again outside of being professional.”
Ever the gentleman, Spencer is. “Dr. Reid, are you sad about that?”
“Yes, I am. I like you, and I’d like to see you again.”
A blush creeps up your neck but you try to keep it at bay. “Well, you’re about to see a whole lot of me because I am not going anywhere.” You smirk. “I’ll see you around, Dr. Reid.”
You and Penelope walk off but you turn back and give him a flirty smile. He chuckles to himself and smiles as he takes a sip of his coffee.
“I can already see it. You two will become the next Me and Derek.”
“I have no idea what that means, but I hope it’s a good thing.”
“Oh, it’s a very good thing,” she giggles.
You can’t wait.

How To Get Started Making Visual Novels
Wanna make a visual novel? Or maybe you've seen games like Our Life, Blooming Panic, Doki Doki Literature Club, etc. and wanna make something like that? Good news, here's a very basic beginners guide on how to get started in renpy and what you need to know going in! Before you start, I highly recommend looking at my last post about writing a script for renpy just to make it easier on you!
LONG POST AHEAD
Obviously, our first step is downloading it from their website
Tumblr media
thankfully, its right on the home page of their site. Follow basica program installation steps and run the program. I highly recommend pinning it to your task bar to make it easier to access.
From there, you're met with the renpy app, it's a little daunting at first but let's talk about what all these buttons are for.
Tumblr media
Projects
This part is simple, it just lists the current projects in the chosen directory. You probably won't have any in there of your own. You should still see Tutorial and The Question!
Both of those default projects are super helpful in their own ways, i highly recommend testing out the tutorial and playing around with it just to get comfortable with some of the basics.
Create New Project
The first step to actually making your game into a game!
You'll be met with a prompt letting you know that the project is being made in English and that you can change it. You can click Continue.
From here, you'll be asked to input a project name! Put in your games title, or even a placeholder title since this Information can be changed later! (this is also the title the folder will be in your file browser, be sure to name it something you won't overlook)
Tumblr media
Now we get to choose our resolution!
If you have no idea what to choose, go for 1920x1080! This is the standard size for most computer monitors and laptops, but it will still display with moderately decent quality on 4k monitors too!
You can choose 3840x2160 as well. This is 2x the measurements of the default, with the same ration. These dimensions are considered 4k. Keep in mind, your image files will be bigger and can cause the game to have a larger size to download.
Tumblr media
Now we get to choose our color scheme!
Renpy has some simple default options with the 'light mode' colors being the bottom two rows, and the 'dark mode' colors being the toop two rows.
You can pick anything here, but I like to choose something that matches my projects vibes/colors better. Mostly because depending on how in depth you go with the ui, it minimizes the amount of changes I need to make later.
Tumblr media
Click continue and give it a minute. Note: If it says "not responding" wait a moment without clicking anything. It can sometimes freeze briefly during the process.
Now we should be back at our home screen, with our new project showing. Let's talk about allll that stuff on the right now.
Open Directory
This just opens that particular folder in your local file explorer!
game - is all the game files, so your folders for images, audio, saves, and your game files like your script, screens, and more.
base - this is the folder that the game folder is inside of. You can also find the errors and log txt files in here.
images - takes you to your main images folder. This is where you wanna put all of your NON gui images, like your sprites, backgrounds, and CGs. You can create folders inside of this and still call them in the script later. EX: a folder for backgrounds , a folder for sprites for character a, a seperate folder for spirtes for character b, etc.
audio - Takes you to the default audio folder. This is empty, but you can put all your music and sound effects here!
gui - brings up the folder containing all of the default renpy gui. It's a good place to start/ reference for sizes if you want to hand draw your UI pieces like your text box!
Edit File
Simple enough, this is just where you can open your code files in whatever text/code editor you have installed.
Script.rpy - where all of your story and characters live. This is the file you'll spend most of your time in at first
Options.rpy - Contains mostly simple information, like project name and version. There aren't a ton of things in here you need to look at. There is also some lines of code that help 'archive' certain files by file type so that they can't be seen by players digging in code however. Fun if you want to hide some images in there for later or if you just dont want someone seeing how messy your files are. We've all been there
Gui.rpy - where all of the easy customization happens. Here you can change font colors, hover colors, fonts, font sizes, and then the alignment and placement of all of your text! Like your dialogue and names, the height of text buttons, etc. It more or less sets the defaults for a lot of these unless you choose to change them later.
Screens.rpy - undeniably my favorite, this is where all of the UI is laid out for the different screens in your game, like the main menu, game menu, quick menu, choice menu, etc. You can add custom screens too if you want, but I always make my own seperate file for these.
Open Project - this just opens all of those files at once in the code editor. Super handy if you make extra files like I do for certain things.
Actions
last but not least, our actions.
Navigate Script - This feature is underrated in my honest opinion, it's super handy for help debugging! In renpy you can comment with # before a line. However, if you do #TODO and type something after it, it saves it as a note! You can view these TODO's here as well as easily navigate to when certain screens are called, where different labels are (super great if your game is long, and more. It saves some scrolling.
Check Script (Lint) - also super duper handy for debugging some basic things. It also tells you your word count! But its handy for letting you know about some errors that might throw up. I like using it to look for sprites I may or may not have mispelled, because they show up in there too.
Tumblr media
Change/Update GUI - Nifty, though once you start customizing GUI on your own, it isn't as useful. You can reset the project at any point and regenerate the image files here. This updates all those defaults we talked about earlier.
Delete Persistent - this just helps you delete any persistent data between play throughs on your end. I like to use it when making a lot of changes while testing the game, so that I can reboot the game fresh.
Force Recompile - Full disclosure, as many games as I've made and as long as I've been using Renpy, i have never used this feature. I searched to see what it does and this is the general consesus: Normally renpy tries to be smart about compiling code (creating .rpyc files) and only compiles .rpy files with changes. This is to speed up the process since compiling takes time. Sometimes you can make changes that renpy don't pick up on and therefore won't recompile. In these cases you can run force recompile to force it. Another solution (if you know what file is affected) is to delete that specific. rpyc file.
The rest of your options on this right hand side are how you make executable builds for your game that people can download to extract and play later!
Tumblr media
Sorry gang! that was a whole lot of text obviously the last button "Launch Project" launches an uncompiled version of the project for you to play and test as you go! Hang in tight because my next post is about how to utilize github for renpy, so you can collaborate easier!

Tutorials for Aesthetics
Hi! Reign here :) this guide is dedicated to teaching you how to make:
a) colour gradient text b) dividers c) pictures with gradients
Now, as a disclaimer, I'm not saying you should have all these things on your posts. Having pretty things won't guarantee a boatload of interactions and aesthetics shouldn't take away from the actual substance of your writing. Many fics do very well without all the glitz and glamour, and indeed simplicity goes a long way.
You should always prioritise clarity, improvement, and conviction in your writings. Don't get caught up in trying to look pretty and definitely don't be copying other creators' aesthetics unless they've given consent for you to do so.
This serves only as a starting off point for exploring styles that suit you.
Another disclaimer is that Canva, since I wrote and posted this, has and might make more changes which will render parts of this guide inapplicable, but the main parts should remain the same. Canva is best used with premium but I understand that not everyone can and is willing to spend money on this. So my advice is to find a different platform and search up tutorials online.
How to get the colour gradient text!
༯ I use stuffbydavid.com
༯ Decide if you want a horizontal gradient/middle gradient/three coloured gradient
༯ Pick your colours + write out the text you'd like to be coloured in the text box
༯ You can see the preview and when you're happy copy all the text in the HTML code box
༯ Go on Tumblr, create a post, click the settings icon of the post, then in the Text Editor function change it from Rich Text to HTML
༯ All your coding will be pasted in the HTML side and they'll appear formatted in the Preview on your Tumblr post
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How to make dividers!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
༯ I use Canva
༯ Click Create a design
༯ Click Custom size -> for my colour gradient dividers, I use the 3000 x 40 px but you can use whatever sizing you'd like of course -> experiment to your liking
༯ Click the colour wheel to change your background colour
Tumblr media
༯ You can do solid colours and use whatever hex code you'd like but to make gradients, scroll through the colour palettes to get to the different kinds of gradient options
༯ From there, you can change the colours of the gradient and adjust to your liking
Tumblr media Tumblr media
༯ To download it, click Share, Download, keep it PNG, size 1 and Download for real
Tumblr media
༯ On Tumblr, you're going to just drag and drop that downloaded image on the website or if you're on the app, just add it as a picture and adjust it where you'd like it to go on the post
༯ If you were to have drawings like the hearts or croissants for the divider, you'll want to adjust the Custom size, arrange the pictures or elements on the page, and download with a transparent background (it requires a premium subscription unfortunately but if you do the free trial and just make a bunch of banners and dividers before it runs out, you should be good)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
༯ A lot of this will involve experimenting for what works for you. There's no cheat code to that, unfortunately. But have fun with it. Don't be afraid to trial and fail -- everyone did at some point
How to add gradient colour to pictures!
༯ Use Canva again
༯ Click Custom size -> 3000 x 800 px (or, again, whatever size you like)
༯ Pick a picture you like -> for manga panels, I like to use Pinterest
༯ Drag that picture onto the blank page and adjust to fit
Tumblr media
༯ Click Add Page -> on that page, change the background colour. You can use solid colours or gradient colours, it's the same process as for making gradient dividers
Tumblr media
༯ Click the colour page, copy and paste it on your picture
༯ Adjust the transparency of your picture depending on how opaque you'd like the colour to be
Tumblr media Tumblr media
༯ Delete the colour page and keep the picture
༯ Then, again, click Share and Download
༯ This is the final product -> you can obviously find better pictures and do whatever colours you'd like, this was just an example
Tumblr media
༯ I'm not very tech savvy so if my explaining is terrible, I am so sorry 😭 but hopefully this makes senses and encourages you to experiment and be bolder with your layout!

Well. I have a feeling I'm about to have a million new followers. (March 31st, 2025; not an April Fool's joke, unless Nanowrimo has very poor taste and timing)
youtube
Here's a link that explains in long video format the whole entire thing in detail:
youtube
and to sum it up:
This blog was made as an Anti-Generative AI to Nanowrimo, as well as a way to actually build a friendly, low-pressure, helpful community of aspiring writers, without the hard-fast-do-it-or-die pressure brought on by nanowrimo.
There is no official "contest" -- only a community coming together to inspire each other to write, help out with motivation by setting community goals, keeping participation motivation via Trackbear.app, etc!
The most popular writing challenge is still November for most people, but I myself have also started to keep a year-round, daily writing goal of 444 via the website 4thewords, which has been an extreme help in getting me to write a little at a time.
This year has been very hectic for everyone what with the election results so I haven't been very active on tumblr (I think everyone can understand that) but I was originally planning on also having each month of the year being a different themed writing / art challenge but got a bit distracted real life.
So, what is the Novella November Challenge?
It's a fun challenge where writers come together to write 30,000 (or your own personal writing goal!) words in 30 days, sharing tips, writing advice, plot ideas, accessibility aids, and committing to having fun while explicitly fighting back against Generative AI by using our own words and disavowing the use of scraping and generating to take away the livelyhoods of artists of all spectrums, and proving everyone who insists "generative AI is an accessibility tool" wrong by committing to our creative visions and making it easier for everyone to find the tools they need to succeed by sharing tips, free programs, and finding a like-minded community to support you! 💙
There is no official website, there is no required place to show your participation, this is a community initiative that will never be monetized by predatory sponsors or dangerous moderators abusing their power.
This blog is here to inspire everyone, regardless of experience level, to write and create the story they want to tell, in their own words, while striving to remain a fun, low-pressure challenge that doesn't turn into a stressful spiral, like often happened with Nano.
Want to start writing but not sure how? Don't have money to spend on expensive writing programs? Have no fear!
LibreOffice: An always free, open-source alternative to Microsoft Word (and Microsoft's other office suits)
4Thewords: A website (both desktop and mobile web browser) that syncs your writing cross platform to the cloud, with built-in daily word goals, streak tracking, and you can fight monsters with your word count to game-ify writing!
Trackbear: A website dedicated to tracking your writing, setting custom goals, and creating leaderboards for community participation; you can join the year-long community leaderboard with the Join Code "f043cc66-6d5d-45b2-acf1-204626a727ba" and a November-limited one will release on November 1st as well.
Want to use Text to Speech to dictate your novel?
Most modern phones have a built-in option available on your keyboard settings which can be used on any writing program on your phone, and most modern PCs that allow a microphone (including headphone) connection has some kind of native dictation function, which you can find by opening your start panel and searching your computer for "Speech to text" or "voice to text".
Want to write while on the go, but don't want to / can't use the small phone keyboard to type, or speech to text?
You can, for as cheap as $40, buy a bluetooth keyboard that you can pair with your smart phone or tablet and use to write in any and all writing applications on your phone -- this allows you to write on the goal (especially using cross-platform websites or services, like 4thewords or google docs) , and the small screen can also help minimize distractions by muting notifications in your writing time.

I know my fellow artists and creators have been frustrated with the rise of AI on Pinterest and Google.  Many of us find it difficult to serch for good references, tips, and general inspiration for art.  So I want to share my collection of good, free websites for artists, designers, film makers, and creators so we can create without ugly AI images staring in our faces 🙌
Sketchfab
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An incredible source for references.  Has a huge collection of 3D animals, architecture, interior rooms, vehicles, food, objects, furniture, nature, memes, characters, etc etc etc. You can literally find several insanely detailed 3D models of the Notre Dame (this one is insane) Models can rotated at any angle as well as zoomed in and out.  You can also change the view of the model to be matcap with flat, colorless planes, wireframe, or base color as opposed to fully rendered.
Cons: there are many uploads that are random and incredibly specific, which overwhelms the search.  Can be excellent for game designers who want to download models but for artists looking for drawing references, you might have to dig a bit for what you want.  Can be so fun for playing around and using crazy fun references for practicing.
Designspiration
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a photographer and graphic designer and someone who can doomscroll on pinterest forever, this is my favorite for finding inspiration for everything: typography, logos, product mockups, illustration, photography, web design, etc.  Has an amazing feature where you can search for art with specific hex codes!  Probably the coolest feature I’ve seen in search engines, and by far superior to google's color search. This site is mostly for design inspiration, but I feel like if you are super into moodboards, then this is the site for you too especially with the beautiful selection of photography.
Cons: I have no cons, I love this website so much and I used to be addicted to pinterest (still am actually😬) but this is easily my new favorite
Public Works by Cosmos
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thousands of artworks enter the public domain every year, and this website is a search engine for other 100,000 of those copyright free works.  All of these works are free to edit, use, and sell with few restrictions.
Cons: I personally find the layout for the search feed a bit frustrating to look around in sometimes, because it’s not the typical "scroll up and down" website. But is very dynamic and overall fun to explore.
Same.energy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a good visual search engine that’s a good replacement for Google images and Pinterest.  The minimal words makes it simple and easy, and clicking on an image you like to filter the feed to find similar images.
Cons: this is in beta so it still have some kinks to work out. It seems to struggle with specific searches and some of the images brought up in the search can be repetitive or not relevant.
Reference Angle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A website for finding face references in any specific angle and any expression for any gender and age.
Cons: I would love this website more if it gave you the ability to customize the light source, but sadly is not an option.  I also feel like there is not a lot of racial diversity in the photos, and some of the images do not match the specific angle. But it is overall a great source for face references
Virtual Lighting Studio by zvork
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A good source for light studies.  You can change the source, direction, color, and brightness as well stacking several light sources on top of each other.
Cons: there isn’t a way to angle the face or change the expression, so it is permanently in portrait mode.  There are four different models and I’m not the biggest fan of some of them…I like the black guy the best because he looks at me kindly instead staring into my soul like the two white guys. The ads are also a bit obnoxious and for the love of god DO NOT USE IN MOBILE!!!  The ads are impossible to get rid of.
Film Grab
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An archive of stills from a huge list of movies.  Good for film makers, photographers, art studies, moodboards, inspiration, etc. Has a huge selection of movies and you can search by movie, director, costume designer, aspect ratio, year, genre, and country. You can also hit random post and it'll give you a random movie, which I think is really fun.
Cons: I do not recommend mobile. The mobile does not have the option to search for a specific movie, so you're forced to scroll through the giant A-Z list of directors or films to find the specific film you were looking for.  Another con that I just discovered: a big-ass ad on the top of the website that occasionally advertises AI websites 🤢 (not shown on the screenshots I shared because ew)
Unsplash
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another image search website that has the feeling of Pinterest
Cons: some images are locked for premium only, and the feed is a bit frustrating to scroll through on mobile since they show the images one at a time instead of as a nice collage like pinterest.  Some images can also be irrelevant to the search.
Sending lots of love to my fellow artists and creative peeps out there. AI sucks and it feels like it's overwhelming the creative space. But I promise there is a way to avoid it! Keep creating 💕

Friendly reminder that Wix.com is an Israeli-based company (& some website builders to look into instead)
I know the BDS movement is not targeting Wix.com specifically (see here for the companies they're currently boycotting) but since Wix originated in Israel as early as 2006, it would be best to drop them as soon as you can.
And while you're at it, you should leave DeviantArt too, since that company is owned by Wix. I deleted my DA account about a year ago not just because of their generative AI debacle but also because of their affiliation with their parent company. And just last month, DA has since shown their SUPPORT for Israel in the middle of Israel actively genociding the Palestinian people 😬
Anyway, I used to use Wix and I stopped using it around the same time that I left DA, but I never closed my Wix account until now. What WAS nice about Wix was how easy it was to build a site with nothing but a drag-and-drop system without any need to code.
So if you're using Wix for your portfolio, your school projects, or for anything else, then where can you go?
Here are some recommendations that you can look into for website builders that you can start for FREE and are NOT tied to a big, corporate entity (below the cut) 👇👇
Carrd.co
Tumblr media
This is what I used to build my link hub and my portfolio, so I have the most experience with this platform.
It's highly customizable with a drag-and-drop arrangement system, but it's not as open-ended as Wix. Still though, it's easy to grasp & set up without requiring any coding knowledge. The most "coding" you may ever have to deal with is markdown formatting (carrd provides an on-screen cheatsheet whenever you're editing text!) and section breaks (which is used to define headers, footers, individual pages, sections of a page, etc.) which are EXTREMELY useful.
There's limits to using this site builder for free (max of 2 websites & a max of 100 elements per site), but even then you can get a lot of mileage out of carrd.
mmm.page
Tumblr media
This is a VERY funny & charming website builder. The drag-and-drop system is just as open-ended as Wix, but it encourages you to get messy. Hell, you can make it just as messy as the early internet days, except the way you can arrange elements & images allows for more room for creativity.
Straw.page
Tumblr media
This is an extremely simple website builder that you can start from scratch, except it's made to be accessible from your phone. As such, the controls are limited and intentionally simple, but I can see this being a decent website builder to start with if all you have is your phone. The other options above are also accessible from your phone, but this one is by far one of the the simplest website builders available.
Hotglue.me
Tumblr media
This is also a very simple & rudimentary website builder that allows you to make a webpage from scratch, except it's not as easy to use on a mobile phone.
At a glance, its features are not as robust or easy to pick up like the previous options, but you can still create objects with a simple double click and drag them around, add text, and insert images or embeds.
Mind you, this launched in the 2010s and has likely stayed that way ever since, which means that it may not have support for mobile phone displays, so whether or not you wanna try your hand at building something on there is completely up to you!
Sadgrl's Layout Editor
Tumblr media
sadgrl.online is where I gathered most of these no-code site builders! I highly recommend looking through the webmaster links for more website-building info.
This simple site builder is for use on Neocities, which is a website hosting service that you can start using for free. This is the closest thing to building a site that resembles the early internet days, but the sites you can make are also responsive to mobile devices! This can be a good place to start if this kind of thing is your jam and you have little to no coding experience.
Although I will say, even if it sounds daunting at first, learning how to code in HTML and CSS is one of the most liberating experiences that anyone can have, even if you don't come from a website scripting background. It's like cooking a meal for yourself. So if you want to take that route, then I encourage to you at least try it!
Most of these website builders I reviewed were largely done at a glance, so I'm certainly missing out on how deep they can go.
Oh, and of course as always, Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Hello, I have a Dog Question.
I grew up with dogs who were rescue mutts but now that I'm an adult I'm looking at getting a dog from a breeder. All my research says "make sure the breeder is reputable" but I don't know at all how to assess a breeder's reputation. I don't even know how much is normal to pay for a dog, and when I look it up, all the websites seem AI generated. Do you have any advice on where to get more information about that kind of thing? Are there any registries that are really trustworthy, or is it better to try to find word-of-mouth networks on who has a good reputation?
If you don't have any advice, no worries, thanks for reading my question anyways.
It can really depend on what type of dog you are looking for! There isn't necessarily one right answer.
Personally I don't care about reputation (reputable) more than I care about the breeder's personal code of ethics (ethical) being relatively close to my own.
Breeding dogs should be health tested. Not just a DNA test but whatever they may be at risk for due to their size or breed or genetic mixup. These results should be made available to you as a potential buyer, and the breeder should be weeding out or making informed choices for dogs with less than steller results. You need to know what is something that just needs to be bred to a dog with better results, vs what shouldn't be bred at all. This, as said, can vary depending on what exact dogs you're looking at.
The breeder should be asking you for more than just money. Talking to you and making sure that you are the right home for their puppy, and letting you also talk to them and make sure you actually want to buy from them. Do they say things about the dogs that don't sit right with you? Are you okay with the way they keep their dogs? Are they well fed, vaccinated, and have their needs met and cared for? Can you see proof of that? People will just say whatever, but seeing is believing.
What's the average price? Different breeds cost different amounts of money. Dobermans are very expensive! Other breeds cost less. Some cost more! If they're mixing breeds, why and what are they looking to create? Does it seem successful or are they just producing a bunch of dogs just to produce a bunch of dogs? Does the high price seem justified? Dobes are expensive because the health testing is very expensive, but less health tested breeds are cheaper. Is the breeder actually doing that expensive health testing or are they charging high without justifying cost?
Registries are not proof of ethics. Being registered with a registry just means that the dog has a traceable pedigree. So we know who the parents are, great. It doesn't determine anything else about the dog though. There is no registry that I would say exclusively has ethically produced dogs. However if a dog is of a breed that can be registered and yet isn't, that is a red flag.
@molosseraptor is a good friend of mine that runs a dog breed matching service and she also knows how to help people find a breeder that works well for them. I would trust just about any recommendation I got from her! She might be able to help you narrow down the list.

The Hundred Line music team interview from Famitsu issue 1895
What was Takada's first impression when hearing about this project?
Masafumi Takada: "C'mon, that's never going to happen." (laughs) Then my second impression, after Uchikoshi plastered the flowchart on the wall was "No way! They weren't joking?"
Kazutaka Kodaka: Uchikoshi's intention with putting the flowchart on the office wall was showing off how massive of an endeavor we had ahead of us. It was his way of demanding resolve from us (laughs).
Takada: In summary, I thought they were out of their minds and that no other company would attempt a project as ridiculous as this. Being able to see such a Herculean labor released and being part of it is something I'll remember later as one of best parts of my life.
Tell us the step-by-step of the song requesting process for The Hundred Line.
Kodaka: I requested a song and Takada composed it.
Takada: Same as it has been for the past 10+ years (laughs).
Kodaka: Ok, for a more concrete explanation, first Media Vision's sound director created a track list based on songs from previous games. We sent the list to Takada and told him they'll also need battle versions. Then the songs are sent to me for approval. Also, I've been doing the screen composition for my stories since Rain Code and I can feel that this made me better at requesting music. Whenever I felt I didn't have the right song for a scene I'd immediately get Takada to make it and put it in-game as soon as it's ready. Due to that, there weren't many songs requested at the start.
Takada: The baseline for the composition is the normal days theme, titled HUNDRED LINE. That one that plays on the website. We required a theme song that fit the game's general image and changed its tune over time, so it had to be on the longer side. Later I composed variations of that. As Kodaka just mentioned, I would get additional requests during screen composition. We had agreed on that in advance, but when it happened, it felt like I was getting new requests every day.
Kodaka: You just described the entire development cycle.
Takada: As the work was mostly remote, I wouldn't stop getting chat messages about all the random things they wanted.
Sounds tiresome.
Takada: Not for me, I like the way we work. I read the general plot summaries, naturally, but I really love slowly discovering the nitty-gritty of the narrative through the track requests.
Makes sense (laughs).
Takada: The ultimate consequence of that was a routine where I had to deliver the new tracks they asked for before the next morning. With the songs being arranged while Kodaka was inputting the scripts by his own hands, it was easier to visualize what was being wanted, and I could feel extra joy and excitement of delivering the track even faster than he hoped (laughs). Embarrassing as it is to admit, being a long time Kodaka fan makes me want to do better, just to please him.
Kodaka: Having a scene's whole presentation locked on faster helps a lot. I'm the kind of guy who likes having everything sorted out without leaving any parts for later, and one of the best things about my company is that I can work with people who match my speed. Things wouldn't go so well with a third-party creator.
Takada: One track can take a month to compose, at worst. Although occasionally, I can have the framework done in just a few hours.
Kodaka: For something basic, like a fluffy ambient track, there was even one time you composed on the spot and it was approved immediately.
Takada: Yeah, real-time composition.
Sounds like something that wouldn't be possible without the bonds matured by your long-term partnership.
Takada: Good point. That's an important factor.
Kodaka: Besides, we now work on the same company, unlike how it used to be with Danganronpa (laughs). You have to remember that making a whole new IP involves inevitably making a bunch of new songs no matter how hard you wish to keep the track list small.
Takada: I don't even have a solid notion of how many there are in the game. There's over 90 of them in the Gallery, but adding up the noise music made for specific cutscenes, I might have composed around 400. I feel like The Hundred Line is a game that would take a working adult about 5 years to play, but I believe just playing like normal is enough to fill up the Gallery.
Still, you wouldn't say the work here was tough?
Takada: I can imagine the topic of the other interviews was about the excess of work in The Hundred Line's production, but I don't feel like that at all when it comes to the game's music. If anything, the sound effects side was the bigger problem.
Kodaka: Rain Code had a ton of sound effects, too.
Takada: Yup. I'd personally guess the most undesirable position for this game would be Schedule Manager (laughs). That's accounting for the lack of a break between Rain Code and The Hundred Line.
Is it true that when the production period for two games overlap, it's easy to get the mixed?
Takada: If I get multiple lines of work at the same time and they're very different in tone, I use one to take a break when I find myself stuck on the other. Considering that, you could say I'm better at multitasking. And I'm also Too Kyo's treasurer, so I can safely say I won't be out of productive breaks.
Does the game have an original genre associated with it, like Danganronpa had with "Psychopop"?
Takada: I vividly remember Kodaka's first answer when I asked what the music should be like.
Kodaka: I don't (laughs).
Takada: I was just finishing Rain Code's soundtrack, so he pointed and said "Like that" (laughs). Later there was an additional request to bring Rain Code's flavor closer to Danganronpa's old taste, and that's what got the ideas flowing.
Tell us your main focus in composing the tracks.
Takada: One thing I always have in mind is that I want my music to feel like one more character participating in the conversation. One day I was drinking with one of the performers working with me at the time for Danganronpa 1's soundtrack and he said "The music itself is one of the performers". This phrase has been living rent-free in my head ever since. That made me go for more intrusive songs during character conversations. And to throw in some hints of nostalgia.
Right, nostalgia. Getting the players to feel like they returned home.
Takada: One of those words you see around online all the time but never in real life (laughs). More specifically, a technique I used for multiple tracks in this game was to create modern remakes of the tunes I created in the past, and go over the request prompts trying to find a place where I could fit them. To do so, I pulled my 10+ year old synthesizer out of its dusty box. The problem is that my synthesizer is a Virus TI, a somewhat weird model that only lets me check out my past tunes by connecting it to an old Mac… That's how far I went to put the old tunes in new melodies, so I hope that's appreciated.
Is that how you composed HUNDRED LINE, the track you mentioned before?
Takada: Yes. Its tunes are entirely new, but I arranged them with the revived inspiration of past games, as it's best suited for scenes where we have the whole crew chatting.
Kodaka: HUNDRED LINE is everything I asked for. Danganronpa V3 still has my favorite normal days track, and this one is made to be something fans of that song would enjoy. A cool-leaning flavor of normal.
Takada: Well said. "Cool-leaning" is right.
Kodaka: War is a major theme in The Hundred Line, so the song needed to match the bloodiness of it. It really came out just as I imagined.
What was the rest of the composition process like?
Takada: I was just trying to fill up the request list (laughs) As I mentioned earlier, in this game, the schedule was our archnemesis… There's one time I said "Hey, I need to work on this song, can I take the persuasion sequence theme off of the to-do list?". Thinking back now, I can't believe I tried to cut a track as important as the freaking persuasion song (laughs).
Kodaka: If I recall right, that was the exploration theme vs. the persuasion theme. We wanted the exploration music to be different for each area, but on further thought, there was no reason for that. But we obviously can't go without music for the persuasion sequences, so it was decided he had to do that one.
It's not often you see Takada that desperate.
Takada: Yeah… True… Looking back, I had my back against the wall the whole time (laughs).
The battle themes feel completely different from the normal days parts. Can you tell us any production secrets about it?
Takada: When composing for The Hundred Line, I considered including a live orchestra, but I thought it wouldn't fit well for the normal days of Komatsuzaki's far-from-photorealistic characters. The tactical RPG battle scenes, on the other hand, could be perfectly (on a meta level) introduced in live orchestra style.
Kodaka: What I wanted for battles was 90s digital rock. BOOM BOOM SATELLITES is the specific band I had in mind. Rather than the refined rock of today, something more in between Electronic and Chemical Brothers. And the music he delivered was exactly what I wanted. He granted my wish for hype on the level of Danganronpa's Class Trial music.
Takada: The first battle theme I made was WAVE 1. It's got a lot of variants, but not many whole separate tracks for the same purpose, so I don't remember having too much difficulty.
Kodaka: My personal favorite is the boss theme. The final version is very different from what I initially asked for. We drastically changed directions along the way to make the bosses feel more grandiose, and I'm glad for that decision.
Takada: I will always include choirs, no matter how overused they may be. Also, the track accounts for the flow of gameplay, namely that there is dialogue and a boss alarm inserted between waves. Cutscenes may interrupt the music, but the key shift for when they do is carefully planned. There's a pause between the first song and the next, which I paid no mind to because I assumed it was a loading screen, but no, that was Media Vision leaving space for the last song to trail. I could go a lot harder with the tempo thanks to this nice gesture.
Kodaka: I love the way that sounds.
Takada: Just having one or two seconds to trail already makes a huge difference, so I'm glad I got to adjust the tracks accordingly. I was so glad that I got all that to work the way envisioned that I stopped everything to report the good news at the company chat (laughs).
Quality comes from the finer details like that.
Takada: I don't know if that's how everyone does it, but I like to make the final tweaks on my tracks after listening to them play out in-game. Even at the moment of this interview, there's a part I'm planning to change as soon as anyone has a good idea (laughs). That aside, the OST is pretty much finished.
Tell us what the hardest song to make.
Takada & Kodaka: SIREI's theme.
Kodaka: I wanted that one to be one of the first tracks delivered, but it took forever (laughs).
Takada: SIREI's is this game's Monokuma. But Monokuma's theme was lightning in a bottle to me. I couldn't see myself making a second song like that after that miracle. Under intense pressure, I initially composed a much more comedic tune.
Kodaka: SIREI only clicked with you when you heard Ootsuka's voice work, was it?
Takada: Oh yeah. That mattered a lot, now that you mention it. Ultimately, I went with playful singing voices in the unique fashion of a funny foreigner working as a semiregular on a talk show.
Kodaka: Did you get Jun Fukuda (Rain Code's Sound Director) to sing there?
Takada: No, I asked him to, but his version sounded too normal. It didn't bring out the nuance I just mentioned. I had to use edited sound bytes. But it does feel like a track that will be better appreciated by the Western fans.
Kodaka: What really felt new to me was the emergency track for when the enemies invade. Nothing in the past games sounded like that. Also, I love the piano for the sad scenes, something that shows a lot first in Rain Code and now here, so this time there were multiple versions.
Takada: Pianos are generally hard to fake, so I compose their parts while playing on a real one. The problem is that every 2-3 days I forget how to play the piano, so if I'm asked to replay it later, I need to take the crash course again (laughs). And the game has many other tracks like this, that I compose once and can't ever perform later. That's how it goes for me, instead of having something pre-formed in my head, I just test instruments I can't play and see what I get.
Thanks to the power of your music, I never feel like skipping the scene where they're putting on their Class Armor.
Takada: Thank you. Being honest with you, at first I didn't understand why they were stabbing themselves and getting all bloody (laughs). At the time, I still had Shinigami's transformation sequence from Rain Code vivid in my head, so I was imagining going from something like that straight to battle. So I came up with a rising sequence from a choir in the transformation, to digital rock in WAVE 1, pure rock in WAVE 2, then bring the choir back for the climactic boss battle. That was the only idea I had in my mind before I started looking at the screens and feeling my way around the instruments.
Were you trying to make the scene feel more continuous through the tunes of the choir?
Takada: Yes. You can notice the choir in parallel with the tunes of the synthesizer.
I was also caught completely off guard by the gimmick arrangement for one specific day number…
Takada: That was Kodaka's idea (laughs).
Kodaka: I won't spoil what this is about, but it's far from an original joke. I just thought that at some point, the game would need the kind of whimsy that changes the whole feel of the world.
Later in the game, there's a scene where music is used offensively. That attack was really rich in genre variety.
Kodaka: Also my idea, and for this one, I provided Takada with a playlist of study material.
Takada: I always loved high-effort shitposting, so that was a fun time. By the way, the singing voice in the folk-styled song is Jun Fukuda.
Kodaka: Contrary to the previous mentions here, this folkish music was Takada's idea. I only asked him to make a song that would feel out of place without explaining how.
Takada: And while this isn't about music, the sound effects team focused their efforts mainly only on the alarm sirens and the morning bell. Fukuda adjusted the pitch over and over again until it didn't conflict with any of the music playing during their scenes. Try noticing that when you hear them.
With how much care goes into every detail of this game, music or otherwise, I don't think it will be long before people start asking for sequels.
Kodaka: I'd be glad to hear that any other time, but at this moment, I think I'm just tired of this idea… (pained laughs).
Takada: No sequels in sight until you get over that (laughs).
Kodaka: Also, making another game this big doesn't sound financially possible.
Adult problems…
Takada: I know all about it since I'm partially in charge of finances. Kodaka handles the incoming assets and I handle the outgoing assets. Honestly, we had a few moments that damaged my stomach (laughs). Worrying about money affects your creativity, so it's recommendable to get that out of your head, but you can't afford to forget about it either.
Kodaka: In my previous works, all I had to do was suggest things nonstop, but now that I represent my own company, I need to gauge which ideas to push and which to stop. That's not easy to me. In hindsight, it's because I never had the experience of needing to hit the brake on an idea before.
Takada: Well said! (laughs)
Kodaka: It's like I had the will to hit the brakes, but without knowing where that was, I hit the clutch pedal and started doing weird things with the gears (laughs).
Takada: The woes of a president and a vice-president. The efforts of our own staff, Media Vision, and Aniplex are naturally tangible, which creates a pressure for us to recompense them properly… That also made it impossible to pull any punches with the music. My mind was set in its desire for every track to be appreciated.
Kodaka: Besides, our production style is indie all the way. Our budget comes from our own pockets, and whatever looks impossible is solved with brute force instead of money. If we knew in advance how much this game would cost, a sane person would have shrunk the project. A game this niche coming out this large is a rarity.
Takada: I hope we're headed toward a future where it's easier to pump money into niche art. So many ideas die before they start.
Kodaka: That said, considering this game grew over twice its initial budget, if a normal company had told me to cut corners or, worst-case scenario, cancel the project, all I could say is "You know what, fair".
I agree… Everything you say about this production sounds very last-resort-ish.
Takada: My word as treasurer is that this game couldn't even begin to exist without Aniplex's support.
Kodaka: Well, true. We tried doing it without Aniplex at first, so we know for a fact that we couldn't finish it with our own money. Their inclusion might have been the most morale-improving part of the production.
Takada: Definitely Kodaka's biggest accomplishment as a CEO! One day he came out of nowhere and said "I think Aniplex wants a contract with us". I already praised him about it when he directly asked for the praise, but I did it without knowing that we were signing with a company that would let us have full ownership over our IP. Or even that any big company was willing to do that. That was the moment where I started believing in this game.
Kodaka: Before Aniplex, there was hell. We were confident in the quality of our work, but we were always wrestling with that tense fear that the thing we were investing into would end unfinished. We were ready to relinquish the creative rights to the franchise if that's what it took to conclude this, hoping that someone would adopt us if we were lax enough with our contractual demands, but thankfully, Aniplex was unbelievably eager to work with us.
Takada: Oh yeah, those guys were ride-or-die from beginning to end (laughs).
Kodaka: I have to admit no sane person would start making a game before they have the funds for it. But waiting for the right time would delay this project 2 or 3 years, plus Aniplex wouldn't have wanted to stick with us if we hadn't made a decent amount of progress before the first handshake. In this sense, I think luck wouldn't have smiled on us if it weren't for this questionable decision. It's not a trick we can pull off intentionally if we ever needed to do it a second time, but I believe just getting this game out there will do something to increase the number of quirky niche titles in the Japanese gaming industry.
Your closing messages, please!
Takada: Just play the game and you'll understand. You probably won't be able to do it in a Japanese home, but I think playing it on extra loud speakers would make for an amazing experience. I'd say the TRPG parts are especially exciting in this department, so give it a try if you have the chance.
Kodaka: You already know Takada did an astounding job on the music but so did Jun Fukuda on the sound effects, making the TRPG section a blast to listen to. Do pay attention to the details.
By the way, do you plan on releasing the soundtrack?
Takada: Yes… … …do we?
Kodaka: Probably! After we're a little less on the red (laughs).
Takada: Until then, enjoy the selection of 10 tracks available on the mini-soundtrack that comes as a preorder bonus. It contains unique remixes of the OST pieces, and should help you immerse yourself into the world of The Hundred Line on those moments when playing isn't an option.

Note
Your amazing work here has inspired me to want to try doing a script project for DQB2 and I was wondering if you had any advice for me?
I'm gonna assume that's some sorta dragon quest game?
Well, ISAT really is a blessing in this regard, because the game is not encrypted at all. Accessing files and all text via rpgmaker MV and VSC is incredibly easy.
okay this got really long i'm putting it under the cut.
But before you get started, there really are some things you need to ask yourself first:
How am I going to get the text from this game?
If your answer is "write it down by hand as I play" then already know that there HAS to be a better way. If you're choosing that method, get yourself emulation, save states, or endless patience, because hooh boy, I've done a little bit of that for a different project (no, I will not elaborate) but save scumming on original hardware to get different dialogue options is agony.
Is there a text dump for your game? Is there a file dump or decomp for your game? Do you have the technical know how to access it? If not, are you confident in your knowledge of the game to accurately identify where all dialogue may occur? If not, are you satisfied missing out on nothing lines and just focusing on the non-optional? Is your game linear enough to not need a closer look at the code to figure out what happens when, as isat does?
2. What's my scope?
Again, do you truly want every line from this game, or just what's "important"? I personally cannot rest until I've exhausted the fucking Menus (which is why there's a script page for those, too) because I'm a completionist with delusions of grandeur, but some people are satisfied transcribing the cutscenes and nothing else (MUCH TO MY ANNOYANCE WHEN I NEED THE OTHER STUFF.... nobody cares about the optional collectible npc dialogue BUT I CARE!!! I CARE!!!!!)
Anyways, what exactly your scope is is gonna significantly influence what your next step looks like.
3. How am I going to present this?
Making the isat script project an individual website mainly came down to how finicky the dialogue in isat is. There's conditionals stacked on conditionals and I wanted a space where I had total control over how to present these factors without influence.
For more linear games, like, say, that time I made all the fewiki scripts for Fire Emblem 6 from chapter 12 onward, it was easy enough to present the scripts on a wiki page just because the game is much more linear, there's less dialogue to begin with, and all conditional text could be nicely divided up into similar groups, like boss dialogue where the condition is just "fight boss with x character".
Tumblr media
isat script project would not exist without my fire emblem fixation, fun fact. other fun facts include that as a child i attempted to novelize Mario Party DS by transcribing all story mode text into a booklet by hand, and I did not finish this for reasons that are hopefully obvious.
This is, as you may figure, way easier to do. There is significantly less burden on you to actually understand how a website works - I cannot stress enough that the current state of the script project is only possible thanks to Gold, and without them, we'd still be at all dialogue being formatted as <p><b>Siffrin:</b> Says some text.</p>
For a lot of older games, you can also find whole game scripts being put up into a single document. Tis common on gamefaqs, I've used those plenty. There I believe you're just working with plain ol txt.
The rule is always though look at examples and if they do something cool figure out whether you can copy it. i did not create the website layout myself, i used a base and fiddled with it for a whole weekend until it stopped exploding.
Again, like, using an existing structure like a wiki or gamefaqs or just google docs or a spreadsheet is a significantly eased burden. One of my favorite things ever is actually a text dump on github, of all places. For this one, the person putting it up chose to leave all text in as close to original state as possible, doing no trimming of things like character emotes and leaving in all original string titles of every line. This is also incredibly useful, even if it is more difficult to use for your average schmoe! (This has fucking saved me doing wiki stuff for engage. engage text dump i ADORE you)
Do you want to be as accurate to the code as possible, or as accurate to the game? Do you have the time, energy, and skills to make the visual presentation nice? Or do you want to keep it rudimentary to streamline your process?
If you ARE doing something like making your own website, it is crucial that you figure out your visuals early, lest you be like us, and be stuck in Reformatting Hell for several months, because someone figured out how to make a thing prettier and nicer to read, and now you need to update the 100+ pages you've already created.
Reformatting code like that takes just as long as making a page in the first place, by the by, because you're just not getting around copy-pasting everything line by agonizing line.
This stuff takes HOURS. If I went at it alone, I doubt I'd have finished by now, or within the next like, two years. This is a really time consuming hobby, and I love doing it a lot, it scratches my exact fixation itch, but if your game is huge, consider seeing if people would be interested in joining you? I will also say being autistic about your game of choice is also a bonus in the sustainability department.
Many a times there were just no updates (as they are now) cuz I am just. Distracted by something else. Like yes on one hand I'm going to uni now and have less time but it's not really less time if I can still put 17hrs into a new video game in three days.
Stuff like this is ALWAYS a long-term project and you WILL need to take time off from it or else you'll start seeing html in your dreams and get burnout.
STREAMLINE YOUR PROCESS!!! FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS WITH AS LITTLE EFFORT AS POSSIBLE!!!! Gold introduced me to Espanso, which is a program that lets you set up keyboard shortcuts to insert phrases, which was a MAAAAAASSIVE time saver in the html department, as it allowed me to just rapid fire paste in all the many html classes we stacked for the presentation of the site. even if you are doing a script on a wiki where everything does look like ['''Siffrin:''' says a thing] you will still be doing yourself a favor if you can shorten that '''Siffrin:''' to just typing :s .
As a side note, I also wanna say like. The popularity of isat script project is a complete outlier. Other game scripts may be used by a maniac like me to overanalyze the plot structure of Sonic 06, but you're very likely not going to see that recognition. I love doing this, because I want these resources to exist for myself. I don't do this for the good of the fandom, but because it is useful to me. I started this because I was writing isat fanfic, and got tired of looking up dialogue on youtube or booting up my own game.
Do I know if anyone found my FE6 scripts useful? No. Do I know if anyone is going through Veyle/Quotes and appreciating that I transcribed all the fucking battle voice clips? No. Do I know if someone appreciates me accurately labelling all voice lines from the ring polishing minigame in engage? Hell no. I don't know, I'm never going to get feedback on that. Those are wiki pages, anyone can edit them, they don't have viewcounts or comments I can look at, and the fandom just isn't as prone to taking screenshots and posting about them line by line as isat.
Isat blew the fuck up on tumblr. I'm not saying you'll get no recognition at all, but if you are relying on external motivators, you are probably going to peter out. There are pages I've worked on for other script things that I've genuienly not touched in two years because I just didn't feel like it, and that's also okay.
TLDR:
Figure out how to get the text you need with the least effort possible (and figure out whether doing that is even possible at all!), figure out what scope you're actually willing to put up with, and present it with the least effort possible, because everything else just isn't sustainable. Streamline streamline streamline. Be prepared to spend hours on this and maybe like find a new favorite podcast to just copy paste text to, because honestly, doing this is also pretty zen.
And most importantly, sparkle on, don't forget to have fun! Even if it seems big and intimidating, you can still make it just a fun side project, and slowly chip away at it over time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and with all the advantages going for isat script project (additional manpower, unencrypted files, easy tools for game examination) it still took over a year to complete.
(loop voice) Don't make the same mistakes I did, okay?
oh, yeah, one last thing, if you're not putting it on a wiki and ARE making your own website, ABSOLUTELY PUT IT ON GITHUB!!!! setting up so any changes to the main branch on github get reflected onto neocities is pretty easy and you only need to do it once, and what this allows is to just have random strangers show up and fix your problems for you. sometimes someone will just show up and fix five bajillion typos and then leave. or they'll stick around and help with more stuff and wowie you have a semblance of a team now.
if you're doing it on a wiki, find like, the wiki discord, if someone is interested in chipping in. if you're doing your own website, put it on github. do it. do it do it do it.

The Best of Nikki's Captions: Tumblr Stats (Part 1 of 5)
Hello, everyone, and welcome to my new compilation series called “The Best of Nikki’s Captions”! This is my way to say “Thank you” to show my appreciation for all of your support throughout these years. This series will be based on a number of factors, such as reblogs, reposts, and much more. Whether they’re pics, GIFs, videos, or even a collage, every caption made by me will be included have my retrospective opinion about the caption, which shows how much my feelings have changed throughout this caption stint of mine. Hopefully, you will enjoy this retrospective project of mines, whether you're a long-time fan or a recent follower of mines.
Today’s series is going to start with results according to Jet Black Code’s Tumblr Stats website. This is the first of five parts of the top 25 best captions. The 25th through 21st best captions are presented here and all, but one of them happen to be picture captions. All, but one of the captions here are close to 1,000 notes, but even then, they are very good captions that deserve their top spot!
Without further ado, here is the first part of the top 25, with 20th being first and 21st being last. Enjoy the surprise results!
Number 25:
You don’t just become a girl in body, but in mind. However, if you could trade your pair down there for a pair up there, you would do it in a heartbeat. After all, even cis girls can’t imagine themselves being fully flat.
I only reblogged this pic once, and it was just a few days ago. It was one of my most popular captions when I first started. Although I initially loved it, I grew out of it as I created more captions as time went by. However, seeing that it has seen a bit of resurgence, it’s kinda growing on me again, much like the boobs I want to grow like the babe in the pic. Very well deserved spot IMO.
Number 24:
You like affirmations, do you? Well, I can do you one better: How about a list of goals that will change you for the best! Maybe this will motivate you to true feminization and experience what it’s like to becoming a girl.
Keep in mind, this is serious stuff. Once you start your change, it will be very difficult to revert back. Transition isn’t a dare or task, but a permanent life-changing decision. If you do “submit” to this life changing decision, don’t be surprised if you don’t turn out like her even 5 years from now. YMMV.
Oh, and the caption is very hot! Not only the bombshell, but the way it’s delivered that motivates you to become just like her. Do the list and I’m pretty sure you could at least become like her in mindset.
Number 23:
Believe it or not, this was reposted in another blog. It was posted around the time this blog was still fresh. However, I’m counting the results I got here. Although I’m short by a few notes, it definitely has potential for being a four-figure caption.
What has more potential, however, is the ability to turn into a gym babe like her! My gosh, I feel like I’m more into admiring and envying her body than I am to getting her attention. In today’s world, it can be possible to achieve a similar body, assuming you have her same stature. But even if you have different body dimensions, the possibility of looking at your future self as fully feminine can be achieved with lots of determination. All you need, besides exercise like Pilates and squats, is a little pill called HRT.
Number 22:
You did some dares and tasks as a game. The result? You look surprisingly more feminine than you think! But as time went by, you became much more comfortable when en femme, everyone sees you as a girl now. The real question is: What about you?
I love how this caption turned out! It’s not only teasing the viewer about the girls in the pic and the caption underneath it, but also has a powerful sense of feminine urge. They’re most likely cis, but they could also be trans or femboys. Nothing wrong with wanting to be feminine. It’s part of our nature to be who we are.
Number 21:
Here's two fun facts about this one:
I reblogged this same caption from another blog that reposted this one. That repost has more than 1,000 notes! If you're interested in checking out that one, click here.
The particular one I'm sharing here is my original posting and it's finally reached over 1,000 notes! Although it's not my first caption to reach 1,000 notes, it's the first in this list to have over 1,000 notes.
It’s become somewhat of a modern classic in feminization spaces. Inspired by an older caption, I used this pic to create a “forced fem” caption motivating you to come out and become like her. I like it, but if I could remake it, I would do it again! For some reason, I thought this girl was Kim Petras lmao. In reality, it’s another influencer/model that was known around the 2010s. If you want to know more, click on the link up there.
That means that the remaining 20 have over 1,000 notes each! Stay tuned for Part 2!

Timestamped responses to Jenny Nicholson's new Patreon ramble about Evermore.
You'll have to be subbed to her Patreon to have any context for these, but Patreon is also pretty bad at sorting and finding comments so I'm reposting it here for a bit more visibility.
4:34 I hadn’t heard of him either, despite the fact that I was a performer during time he was supposedly a manager. This isn’t really surprising, ground-level employees scarcely received communication from or about anything above their department’s management.
6:55 Hi Bob! He was actually a cast member at Evermore for one season. This was after he had already been reporting on Evermore for a while, and AFAIK none of his content even during or after that period was endorsed by the park. I can attest he is as friendly and genuine in person as he is in his videos, and a great guy.
7:07 There were several others during the first few years. After Evermore announced in early 2021 that they were discontinuing all stories, quest, and characters they had done up until that point and changing to a more story-light experience, several of the most dedicated fans and frequent guests stopped engaging with the park, including any who made content about it.
8:32 Yeah. They did reorganize and lay people off several times, but only below a certain point in seniority. Obviously Ken himself and any business partners or investors that had any stake in the company maintained control. Though, if they ever “managed” anything, it was done in a very hands-off way and dictated through several layers of employees.
9:55 This kind of toxic positivity is rampant in Utah. Any type of criticism or discontent towards any leadership, usually rich, straight, white men, is highly frowned upon. Literally, in this case. The people who dare to express negative opinions or challenge the status quo (who are often not rich straight white men) are then viewed as problematic and practically shunned. Anyone who criticizes or challenges is bad, bad people are untrustworthy, therefore their criticisms and opinions are invalid.
10:23 Also strange since he did create a TTRPG company. If anything, I think that would qualify someone as a “nerd” themselves.
10:45 Exactly!
11:12 Ken held strong control over a lot of aspects of the park and the business, but it’s obviously far too big of an operation for one person to micro-manage so much of it. Another example is he wouldn’t let anyone change the Evermore website. It was commonly suggested to use the website as a way to communicate storylines and background information for new guests but it never happened. It’s unclear if Ken outright refused that, or if he didn’t mind the idea but wouldn’t do it himself or let anyone else have access to do it.
13:25 There were times when the food at the park was good. I don’t know if they were only able to have better food by cutting corners, operating without being under code, and then changed once they were under scrutiny (remember when one of the buildings lit on fire?), or if they just cut costs.
17:40 I think [Jenny is] probably right, and I don’t think this was the only time it or something similar happened. There were several times Ken would try to bring new money in, and sometimes people would bite-only to quickly back out after learning how bad the situation was.
18:50 That would require admitting fault or failure from park leadership, and thus would have never happened.
22:50 This aggravates me lol. Changing the official Facebook page name for the park changed all my “worked at” and tagged posts to say “Thecrookedlantern” instead of “Evermore Park” and it looks awful and drives me crazy.
23:30 I’m definitely biased here but I do think that some of the intellectual property that Ross now owns does have some value, or at least at one point had the potential to, but ironically it was all but abandoned after the aforementioned 2021 announcement. The worldbuilding and characters had their moments, and the Evermore Realms card game, while a relatively small project, was reportedly actually profitable for Evermore. There was an entire second set of cards designed and ready to print that never saw the light of day. Furthermore, even though Ross technically owns all the intellectual property from Evermore, he might not even be aware of most of it. Even if he was it probably wasn't properly archived anywhere. He’d have to dig through old employee emails Google Drives to piece it together, if that data even still exists or he has any way to access it, or rehire someone who worked on it to attempt to recreate it.
25:25 An Evermore property only designed to look nice and not actually facilitate people or events there? Consider me shocked. /s
30:00 Beyond the Gates is not the first former employee/fans spiritual successor that has been attempted. I was briefly involved with a group called Mynheras larp that was also the same concept. Their goal was to not have the same problems Evermore had and then almost immediately began falling apart because they were having the same problems Evermore had-at least on the creative side of things. They didn’t have any money. I haven’t worked with Beyond the Gates but there are good and talented people who are involved and I wish them the best.
31:20 I’d like to think most of us are appreciative towards the work [Jenny] did and agree with all the criticism [Jenny] made (and more), and I know several of us are, but it is Utah. I would be disappointed, but not surprised, to find a handful who hold undue resentment towards [Jenny].
39:00 I don’t know anything about this exhibit in particular, but there were so many incredibly talented people who were exploited, burned, and abandoned by Evermore. Several sculptors and creature-creators worked for months to years before the park opened, and then were laid off within months of the park opening. I’m glad to see some of their efforts and creations survived and are being put to some use.
42:30 I’m getting emotional and nostalgic seeing these omg ;_;
44:25 oh I’m so glad you had the opportunity to speak to one of them directly!
44:50 YES. This was actually a part of a big and surprising problem with Evermore’s development and how there was no intellectual property developed (e.g. story and characters) before they had to start building them. I’ll go into this in more depth in my eventual video about my experiences at Evermore if I ever finish it
45:28 yep yep yep
46:20 YEP YEP YEP
47:00 I actually didn’t know a lot of this either and it explains a lot.
47:20 and while I’m sure this all true, a lot of the puppets and creature suits did fall into significant disrepair and were never fixed.
51:20 I never personally saw any of this behavior but I did hear about it from others who I 100% believe.
52:00 My impression is that he’s not evil or malicious per se, but is someone whose ego far surpasses his competence and refuses to acknowledge or accept his failures or shortcomings. When confronted with them, he lashes out.
EDIT: I have since seen his recent Twitter replies. He has gone full alt-right Musk bro. Evermore was something of a haven for a lot of marginalized communities in Utah, not to mention -he has queer children himself-, so him revealing those opinions is a complete betrayal. I try to afford some benefit of doubt where possible, but he’s shown his true colors.
55:00 this is hilarious and I never heard these details before. While, I believe, none of the displays were intended to be specifically religious, several of the antiques were originally religious in nature and several sculptures made for the park were themed similarly. It all felt very classically Catholic or Anglican, which is funny to do in Utah where the population is very religious and conservative but specifically (and proudly) NOT Catholic or Anglican. Mormons. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
56:55 lmao we literally called that building “the barn” the first couple of seasons.
57:55 I was under the impression that the tavern was one of the few that was an original design, but maybe that was just the interior.
59:10 As far as I know, they never attempted to sell liquor on the park premises outside of the premium special events and Vander’s Keep. Corners were cut constantly, but I don’t think they were ever this bold with it. I’m sure he wanted to, but it would be impossible to get away with in Utah. It would stand out so much compared to any other similar attraction in the state, and enough of the population would actually be shocked and offended at the presence of alcohol that some suburban parents with too much time on their hands would report them immediately.
1:00:30 I don’t recall any specific details but there were several liens and lawsuits from contractors who weren’t paid even in the first year Evermore was open.
1:01:40 I’m not an authority on this subject but I don’t actually think this was the case for this building. The upper floor did have “pillars”, but they weren’t put in until several years after the park opened and were clearly fake and not structurally integral. There were antique stone columns in the park (and I once heard they were actually the oldest artifacts on site), but they were across the graveyard from the building around the weird shrine with the antique statue of Saint Apollonia, the Catholic patron saint of dentistry. To be clear, the mausoleum could easily have not been up to code but it wasn’t because there were marble columns in the upper floor. I’m not trying to defend the park by any means, but I’d like to try to keep the facts straight to paint an accurate picture.
1:03:50 These details are also new to me and also not a surprise. Infrastructure throughout the park was very limited. Again, I’m not an expert and don’t know the specifics, but the idea of hosting mid-sized performances and concerts was brought up several times almost immediately when the park opened, and I was told the infrastructure couldn’t support anything like that. Not even electricity for proper lights and sound.
1:04:50 As far as I know this is correct. I’m sure new owners wouldn’t want to inherit all the problems, debts, and negative reputation Evermore Park the company has, but it is sad that the park and the intellectual property have been separated.
1:12:13 I’m getting flashbacks to hbomberguy revealing that Tommy Tallarico wasn’t actually on MTV Cribs
1:16:00 While I’m also not particularly optimistic, this is still a much better outcome than having it all be demolished and bulldozed for condominiums.
1:20:00 This isn’t the first time this has happened in Utah. They seem to be copying a trend of semi-high-profile scavenger hunts that have taken place in the state over the past several years. Unsurprisingly, the winners are always the people who can afford to commit the most time to it (i.e. not working a day job), which aren’t the people that could use the money the most.
1:32:20 Amongst the several, several red flags around Realm Town (and that terrible, terrible name), the one point of optimism I’ll give is that the man in this footage here (he’s not as public as the owners so I won’t name him but for all I know he introduces himself in one of their videos) is the former “Project Director” at Evermore from late 2019 until the layoffs in 2021, and was in a senior creative position for at least a year before that. He was creatively involved in all the storylines and “gameplay” that existed during what is considered to be Evermore’s peak, and experienced firsthand all the traps, shortcomings, frustrations, and challenges in developing and operating Evermore. Him returning to the land formerly-known-as-Evermore is something of a redemption arc, or could be. I would say that because of his direct, firsthand experience that he is one of the more qualified people who could direct this project, but judging by everything you’re pointing out here I worry he is in a similar position under the Foxes as he was under Ken. But I also wonder, because of the new ownership’s apparent cluelessness and aimlessness, if he and/or other people passionate about the park were the ones who encouraged them to purchase the land in the first place.
1:50:40 Meh. If they didn’t know what they were getting into when they purchased the land then you’re just educating them about it now. Anyone reasonable would be grateful for it, but maybe it’s unrealistic to expect that anyone who owns these projects to be reasonable.
1:52:10 Oh! There it is! The card game. I am forever bitter about it because the characters I played weren’t included in the initial set that was printed but were going to be in the finished but unpublished second set. Someone who had connections to its development very generously leaked the art to me and it’s amazing and I don’t know if I can even legally share it.
I moved states after my last season at Evermore in August 2023, so I don’t have too much more insight into Realm Town or any other ongoing developments. What small relevance I’ve had here is quickly diminishing haha. I mentioned in another comment that I’m working on a video describing my experiences at Evermore. I say this not to self-promote, but hopefully by making myself accountable to some other people I might be encouraged enough to actually finish it. Big thanks yet again to Jenny for her earnest and thorough approach to this fascinating topic (and to all the topics she covers on her channel) that means a lot, or meant a lot, to several passionate and talented people and for encouraging large-scale creative endeavors to meet their potential by offering helpful and specific criticisms and ideas.
