going INSANE. what is he thinking. why did he say this. why does he do all of this. i am thinking so hard.

we know he's seeking arceus to recreate the world bc in his eyes the world is cruel and unjust and it needs to be destroyed and remade. he's set himself on a mission to create the better reality he's envisioned for his whole life.

but everything else he does. the way he spends his time on pasio making people smile with togepi. even if he justifies it as something purely transactional to get more customers, we know he doesn't really take his merchant job seriously. the way he loves his pokemon so much that they will pop out of their pokeball to excitedly tell whoever will listen how much they love volo back. him trying to capture these moments of happiness tangibly because they never last long and can be wiped away any second.

he still hangs onto hope so much despite what's implied to have happened to him. in spite of all the anger and bitterness that's festered in him, he doesn't really want to destroy everything as he says.

it all started with a wish for the world to be a better place, for the good in the world to outweigh all the cruelty. he's still trying to spread what happiness he can.

but at the same time his past drags behind him and reminds him that he can't afford to trust in the goodness of the world.

that self-assigned mission to usurp arceus's power and rewrite everything.. to him, it's his duty now. he has to do it for himself and, as he rationalizes to himself, for the world.

so he ignores the flaws and holes he finds in his own reasoning. he can't help but seek out the brightness and happiness and goodness that does exist in the world, yet he has to dismiss it to justify his goals.

... all this to try and explain to myself why volo's asking all these questions and making all these comments that seem to go against what we'd expect given his ulterior motive and plans. and it's like he's asking the few friends he has to remember him as the one who seeks joy, even when he does the worst to fulfill his dreams

WHAT a year, am I right?

2023 opened the door to a lot more experiences, events, fandoms, people, & all KINDS of hectic craziness for me, but it was REALLY fun, & while I don't think I really made HEFTY leaps & bounds in terms of doing something different with my art, every day - with every small change & improvement, I come to love my art all the more.

& that, I will contribute some to YOU! yes, YOU - reading this right now! to casual viewers, to those who have been with me since the premiere of this blog, to those who've come around in 2023 for one thing or another; to those of you of whom I've never spoken with, to those who have made me something or complemented my work, to those who've become my friends, my gratitude is IMMEASURABLE.

this last year, while its had its bumpier moments - I will confess, it's been truly incredible, & I thank you, every single one of you, who's had even the slightest hand to make it so. you are all TOO KIND, & I appreciate you sticking by & enjoying what I do.

hopefully, I can continue to make things that grab your attention, AWE & AMAZE YOU, & beyond anything, make you smile, if only to repay you some for all the joy you provide me.

my favorite thing is javier convincing himself he's being logical and cold and calculated when he decides not to turn on lloyd the moment he finds out he's a fake only to immediately get bowled over by his feelings when it comes to decided whether he tells arcos about it or not. it's so funny because he's all like this isn't about feelings he isn't stupid he won't involve his emotions on something like this and then he has to put lloyd's life in someone else's hands and he just. can't bring himself to do it.

it's literally like "i won't kill him but it's not because i care about him i'm just being objective this isn't about my feelings" "you have to tell arcos so he can decide whether or not to punish lloyd" "but i don't want to :("

and the worst thing is that he's so confused about it initially. he's like "uh i wonder why i'm so hesitant to turn lloyd in even when this could absolutely mean betraying my lord. why don't i want to tell the truth that could put lloyd's life in danger even when this could be betraying everything i've dedicated my life to. what could it possibly be". like babe. babygirl. i fucking wonder.

of course it's immediately followed by javier hearing lloyd tell og!lloyd that he will tell take care of their parents and tell them the truth in the future and it's an Oh moment for javier because. of course. this was why.

the translation used "making Javier soften" but it could've as easily been "making his heart weak" because. that's exactly what lloyd does with his words. unknowingly, without meaning to.

javier is so, so weak for lloyd. he wants to believe him, he wants to trust him so bad. this is immediately after finding out lloyd has been lying and hiding the truth from javier for years and javier still wants to believe him, he still puts his faith on lloyd and trusts him with the people he treasures the most in the world.

which is like. the opposite of acting logically and unemotionally lol
