Hey there~
Do you have any predictions and thoughts on the upcoming RE9, what would you like to see and what not? This is just for fun as we wait for the possible announcement soon 😁
Well I do follow what leaks do come out (obviously taking them with a grain of salt and keeping in mind the fact that all info is subject to change as production goes through the motions). It definitely would be very funny if re9 turned out to be something completely different entirely but I digress.
And since we're talking about re here, the famous mediocre but beloved little gem, my wants are very minimal. I know not to get too excited when it comes to re lmao. That said, what I want and what I expect are two different things here, so......
What I want:
• Third person pov! I don't mind the first person as much as I know some folks do (a lot of my fave games are in first person!), but I definitely prefer the third person view for re by a longshot. It just feels more organic. Or, at least, a third person pov option that doesn't suck ass to play, like it does in re8.
• Whatever character ends up being the main one, I just want a satisfying conclusion to their arc. So far, it seems that everyone agrees that Leon will be the main character, with Jill initially planned to be one as well, but being axed during the production process. I actually don't expect re9 to serve as some 'final chapter' to any main character at all. But I do want a meaningful character narrative that is ingrained into gameplay. It doesn't have to be anything complex or deep (although I definitely would welcome it, if it's done well), I just want it to make sense in the game itself (since I don't expect it to make sense in the grand lore lol), and make it heartfelt. They've been doing a good job with that lately, so this is one of those points I'm not all too anxious about. I don't have any concrete expectations, I just want it to be good. Whatever it is. If Leon is the main character, I would kill for possibility of the narrative explicitly acknowledging his self destructive tendencies, and how he's the one keeping himself trapped in this life he hates so much. I want the fandom's perception of og Leon as this perfect innocent little victim to shatter. I want it explicit. I don't think that'll happen, lmao. But I want it. Leon having a big mental crisis would be fire.
• Maybe a new badass female character...... any amazing new female characters honestly. I love women. Without any gross sexualization please! They've cut back on that lately as well, so, hopefully, if we do get introduced to some new female character, she'll be treated with respect. Well... as much respect as Capcom can afford anyways lol. Oh, I'd be very happy if that's a woman of color! We need more of those for sure. Hopefully with cute and natural hair. (My girl Sheva deserved better...)
• I want a fucked up, sympathetic villain, and I want it reflected IN the game instead of files. It's one of my biggest gripes with re as a whole honestly. I just wish vilains were given more depth IN THE STORY instead of shoving all the nuance into the notes and files. I want what re7 did with its villains. I want it fucked up, harrowing, ridiculous and heartwrenching all the same. Bonus points if the vilain is a direct parallel to the main character. And done well. Not like they did with Mother Miranda.
• If Leon's the main character, give him gray hairs. Begging. Smile lines, too. Like DI did, but more prominent. Probably won't happen but I also want Matt Mercer to voice him too... He's the older Leon voice for me, especially as he came into this role through the years. Tho I do think he'll be voiced by someone new, unfortunately. But who knows! Maybe my prayers will be answered. If Jill is actually physically still in the game (be it a major or minor presence), GIVE HER A PROPER OLDER DESIGN. This is probably the most unreasonable want of mine, unfortunately. It sucks so bad how they pointedly refuse to age their women and spruce up their designs. I need a normal, older Jill man. Not her re3r cosplay.
• If Leon's the main character... Hunnigan banter!!!! Need her badly. Need her to sass Leon's ass and make us laugh. I love this woman. Leon's best friend and babysitter. She's sick of him, but she loves him dearly. I'll cheer outloud if we see/hear her <3 Also want a flirty comment or two between them. Not because I want them together but because it's very funny. Fits them, too. I love Hunnigan.
What I expect:
• Honestly... With how long re9 have been in production, and how many things seemed to have been scrapped, reworked, and changed through the years, I expect it to be clunky and lacking creative direction. Unfortunately, most often than not, that's what I see happening with projects that have been tweaked as many times as re9 has. It obviously had trouble finding its footing, and l... don't think it has found it. That said, I do fully expect there to be good, meaningful things in it. There are people who genuinely put a lot of passion and love into it, and it always shows when it comes to re, even if the final project comes out undercooked. I am looking forward to enjoying that. But, I am keeping my expectations on the low. Who knows, maybe it does turn out really good. But I'd rather keep my expectations humble on that front.
• Now, this is solely based on leaks, and this is pure speculation, so do keep that in mind. For all we know, this might be a nothing-burger. But, one of the most prevalent and seemingly concrete leaks that multiple parties have agreed upon, is that a big character is apparently going to die in re9. Now, it sure as hell won't be Leon, I think that's obvious lmao. Anyone who thinks they'd actually kill off THE main face of re is very misjudged. It sure as hell won't be Jill, either. For the same reasons. But there is a character they can kill off that is both fairly big and won't be as big of a loss as Leon or Jill. Yup, I'm talking about Ada. Listen, I hate thinking this. It would suck, and I don't want for that to happen. But there are reasons I am, unfortunately, inclined to agree that it's a very real and reasonable possibility. Firstly, it literally gives them the freedom to make aeon explicit canon. It's weird as fuck, but yeah, killing off Ada would mean they can go all out with them if they want. Because, if she dies, there is no pressure to continue off from that. As I said in the linked post, a character dying is literally one of the only ways they can make an explicit canon ship. Secondly, the team working on re9 seemingly love incorporating romance elements in their narratives. Both revelations 1 and re7 had some romantic elements vowen into them. Ada's and Leon's 'tragic romance' seems just up their alley, unfortunately. Thirdly, they could easily parallel Ada's death to the og re2 to make it extra final, and it'll fit very well, and I hate that fact with a passion. It would also 'conclude' Ada's arc. Or... whatever imitation of an arc she had in og storyline. Overall, I am praying for this particular leak to be false. It would genuinely be a horrid conclusion to Ada's og character, that is already painfully dry and tied to Leon. Even if they give her depth they attempted but failed to give her in re6. Even if it's meaningful, touching and heartwrenching. Even if it makes sense. I don't want it. But I am mentally prepared for it, if it does happen. It just isn't worth it to make your ship canon in re universe ya'll. It'll be terrible 9 out of 10 times.
• Now, on a more lighthearted note, I expect it to be poorly optimized lmao. Re9 seems to be the next big darling, and almost every damn time they get all ambitious, they fuck it up. Now, they'll probably fix that relatively quickly, Capcom are usually great at that (side eying monster hunter wilds here), but on release? I expect it to be clunky. But who knows, maybe it'll run great and be fun as hell to play. One can only hope.
• I expect re9 to retcon or throw out some previous lore LMAO. Sorry, but I don't think it'll be this perfect continuation to everything, like I see many people wanting. Now, I'm personally used to it. I treat pretty much all re lore as 'subject to change' at this point. Oh, I also don't think it'll continue the 'corrupt BSAA' storyline. If Leon's the main character, it'll be a completely separate, self-contained story. Maybe an allude to it or two, or even a cliffhanger, if we're very lucky. But nothing else.

I’ve been avoiding mentioning mega man comic shit until stuff dropped and genuinely I don’t like saying ZX is a super underrated shaft series because I know star force and fuck even legends fans have it so bad in comparison-ZX may be living in Zeros shadow but at least it’s on modern platforms and Capcom actually acknowledges it, tho two still don’t have their ports and who the fuck knows if they’ll touch them-but finding out the general mega man comic is published by a weird racist right wing chud and that SAME DUDE IS WRITING THE ZX ISSUE SPECIFICALLY just fucking shows ZX is not allowed to not have nice fucking things IG

Small Rant About RE
Hello gang... This has been on my mind for awhile. Today we're talking about Resident Evil and particularly Leon stans. Now I'm gonna come out and say I am one of them! I love that silly little blonde man and he's like number 1 on my favorite capcom white boy tier list next to Cody from Final Fight/SF.
tw: mentions of rape, pedophilia, incest, abuse, and my opinion
Let me make it clear, I'm not kink shaming, I'm not advocating for censorship. Art and literature shouldn't be censored. Sex is cool. Kink is cool (when safe and consensual).
I'm gonna be one of those fans real quick and say, I've been an RE fan since I was like 7. That doesn't really mean much since I can't drink legally but I've been in love with Leon since elementary school. I watched my Dad and brother play RE6 co-op and man... Aka I've been in the fandom for a fat minute. Before the RE2 remake came out I'd see the occasional Dead Dove fic but that's whatever. But I have never seen this much dark romance about Leon of all people!
Like. Call it the T-Virus the way it's everywhere I swear I can't scroll down the damn tag without getting hit with a sexual crime. And let me say, I'm not new to fandom culture. I take don't like don't read to heart (I'm super picky LMAO). And I understand that, that's just how big fandoms are, more people, more bad eggs. I'm sure the majority of y'all are sweet people.
BUT I feel like I shouldn't have to say that romanticizing things like pedophilia, rape, abuse, and incest is disgusting in the big year 2025 but here we are. Honestly, I feel this way about a lot of the fics of other fandoms I'm in. I feel crazy seeing it everywhere and it makes me feel like some sort of sexual puritan. Am I insane for wanting freaky smut and not ...freaky smut??
There for sure is a bigger conversation here about how easily accessible porn is and how quick people to fall into these pipelines. Or how booktok caused a rise in the normalization of dark romance troupes and just pure porn writing (I still hate icebreaker). Or how quick form constant content is slowly leaking it's way into everything. But we’d be here for forever…
And like, it's just completely out of character?? Like if you're gonna write about that can it at least be in character? Wesker fits the dark romance thing LEAGUES better. But LEON?? THE POLICE OFFICER?? Did you even watch a walkthrough? Leon is a sweet upstanding guy with lots of trauma, that is the last thing he'd do to ANYONE! Not saying fics have to be completely accurate all the time but there's literally nothing fun about "Omg what if Leon RAPED you!?" HES NOT THE EVIL RESIDENT HERE GUYS! At some point it's not even about Leon (or whoever the fic is about) anymore, it's just someone wanting to share their sexual fantasies online.
These topics are almost never written with any care and are insanely insensitive to the survivors of these acts. I don't know, sexual crimes are literally some of the most deplorable acts of hatred and depravity someone can do onto another person. I can't imagine getting off to the suffering of others (in a heinous crime way not BDSM way) (BDSM is cool). Have some fucking empathy and stop thinking with your goon wad guys <3
Like at least take it to AO3 so that I can filter it out or smth...
Edit: I just woke up and remembered what else I was gonna say.
You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their fictional characters. Another thing I don’t like are the Gooner mods for the games. Like they’re fun every once in a while and like if it’s a capcom game you have to expect it. At some point though, it just stops being sexy and feels gross or uncomfortable.
Idk maybe I’m in the minority here but there has never been a single time where I was playing any RE game and thought to myself, “man… I wish I could see Leon’s end rod whipping in the wind rn…” Obviously, I wanna see that man oiled up butt booty naked doing jumping jacks like as most normal people do but… zawg…
That’s also like an actual person?? At least for the remakes. Maybe this just isn’t my dove to eat but the treat Leon like some sort doll. I know it’s kinda weak to be like this for a fictional person but yeah </3

and I was fucking RIGHT XD
TBH I’m just keeping my hopes low and assuming it’s going to be a mini animation that summarizes the series akin to the preview animation SOJ had. It might not be much, but it'd be pretty cool (especially as that Phoenix in the graphic looked very in the style of Studio Bones, which did the anime cutscenes for DD/SOJ)

I once again cannot sleep, and wanted to throw in my two cents on the cloaked figure in the re9 trailer, complete with visuals and numbered color-coded notes because I am autistic as fuck. Also, I'm not including the guy sitting in the chair in this cuz we don't actually know for sure yet if they're the same person
Tumblr media
Red=mismatched, blue=match, green=up in the air/ not yet explainable. I tried to find a picture with a similar angle, but honestly I didn't feel like searching for hours to find a near perfect match.
the mouths are noticeably different. cloak guy has a very full lower lip, thin pointed upper lip, and a pretty prominent pout. wesker's lips are much thinner, are similar lengths to each other, and isn't as pointed.
cloak guy's jawline (that we can see at least) is rounder than wesker's, and his chin doesn't jut out as much either. i can't tell if his chin is cleft or not because of the lighting and stuff covering his face
they are both wearing button down shirts, but they're different colors. wesker's shirt is navy (apparently. i thought it was black. there's a chance i might be slightly blue colorblind), while cloak guy's shirt looks either white or beige
alright, time for some points that point to him being wesker, cuz i'm not so dumb as to think this theory's coming from nowhere. cloak guy does have some obvious damage on his chin. it looks dark or even black, and seems to have black tendrils leading to it. it could be burns with remnants of uroboros under the skin. but it could also be just be g-virus. or t-virus. or las plagas. or mutamycete- look, the point is that the RE team uses black tendrils a lot. they don't exactly paint many bowls of fruit
there are some white blotches all over the cloak guys face. it could be degradation from the viruses wesker injected into himself for years that no doubt would have been suddenly stopped, or his body slowly reconstituting itself
All in all, I really doubt it's Wesker. Any similarity they share is mainly because, again, the RE team doesn't exactly paint many bowls of fruit. Their guys that are supposed to be handsome don't differ from one another that much, and a lot of those similarities are also shared with the other men, too. It also doesn't make much sense to me to bring back a character that's died twice at this point. The writers are actually focusing on telling a story, and as fun as it could be to bring him back to Raccoon City, bringing him back again would reduce any impact his death had along with any subsequent ones.
I've also seen some people suggest it's Leon, and like, why? How? Why would Capcom do that to their favorite lad? Why would they do that to literally the most popular character in the entire franchise? I know the guy that's been providing leaks about the game said Leon made a cameo in the trailer, but he also said that Leon would be the main character, then pivoted to 'playing as him the most', only for Capcom to refute that claim and state that Grace is gonna be the main character. It feels like a fake leaker to me.
However, there was one suggestion I saw that matched cloak guy pretty damn well. It makes enough sense to me with what little info we have so far, and (I think at least) would be more interesting. I tried to find the original post again, but I couldn't sadly.
Tumblr media
George Hamilton matches way better than Wesker does, and he was in Resident Evil Outbreak as well, just like Alyssa. If they were going to bring back another past character, it makes more sense from a writing stand point to reintroduce one with a potentially ambiguous fate that came from the same source as the other character.
*I thought I could change the number for the list, but I was wrong. 6 in the image is 1 on the list, and so on so forth*
they both have a full bottom lip, thinner pointed upper lip, and a noticeable pout
chin and jawline match much more. mind you, it's not a perfect one-to-one match, though that could be explained by them having to make a new model for the new engine
their shirts match a lot better, too. they're both button up with closer colors
aaaand time for points against him, because I'm nothing if not fair. it's really hard to tell, but it looks like cloak guy might have a vest on top of the shirt, but that could just be me grasping at straws. it could just be shadow
if cloak guy is george, then what the hell is the stuff all over his face? it kind of looks like g-virus infection from the start of the series, but then how would he still be alive?
Until we get more info about the game, I'm subscribing to this theory myself. If you know who suggested this first/are the one that suggested it first, lemme know so I can credit them at least.
I'm not gonna lie, this was mostly spurred cuz I kept seeing people saying the cloaked figure is Wesker without a single doubt and I fucking hate when people pose a theory about something and treat it like it's absolute fact. It leaves no room for speculation and shuts down any potential conversation about it (I also have my own gripes about calling them theories, but that's different conversation).

lengthy yap on resident evil requiem below!!!
I know i'm 2 days late to making this post but better late than never so I'm going to post it anyway: I'm SUPER hyped for resident evil requiem.
I was outside, specifically somewhere really quiet, when i first saw something about RE 9. prior to this, i didn't have any expectations for an announcement because Capcom pulled off such a good fake out-- like we were all genuinely edged. i heard about in on IG and the first thing i saw about it is the ruins of the front of the RPD, signage on the verge of falling off. due to the AI images that are always circulating whenever there's some leak about the game, i didn't fully believe it at first and thought that it was AI though i acknowledged that it looked pretty legit and accurate with the actual gate.
TURNS OUT, it's a screenshot from the teaser and RE 9 was officially announced. bro i was breathing so hard trying not to freak out and lose my shit in a silent room with 4 other people around because i got genuinely so hyped up and excited for the game to come out. everything about it looks so good: the introduction of a new character, going back to RC as part of an investigative mission, and resident evil outbreak being officially canon.
i can't wait to see where they take the franchise after this and judging from the title 'requiem', which literally means a musical memorial service for the dead, they're certainly going to pay homage to the roots of RE so no wonder we're heading back to where it all started. in one way or another, leon is definitely going to be involved (also because Nick's IMDB page has him listed as Leon Kennedy's actor under the 'upcoming' section). pretty hyped to see Leon again but hopefully we get to see the return of Chris (PRETTY PLEEAASE CAPCOM I'LL GIVE YOU BOTH MY KIDNEYS AND 2 GALLONS OF MY BLOOD) as well as Jill and Rebecca.
about grace, i genuinely thought she was rose at first because they look so similar with each other-- the hair, eyes, and facial features. when i heard the last name 'ashcroft', i immediately thought of alyssa. i thought that they redesigned Alyssa but she also looked too young and turns out, she's her daughter and alyssa ended up MURDERED in a hotel. i can't wait for more teasers, info, and trailers to drop, i feel myself genuinely go crazy while waiting for 8 months to pass us by.
OVERALL, the game looks promising and i can't wait to play it once it drops. also, i want to see leon have a breakdown and for capcom to delve deeper and explore the trauma of our beloved protagonists :33

Theres an artist in capcom who really wants to fuck bears and buff men and it's leaking in the artstyle. Regular people do not draw buff people with these proportions

The ign “leaks” are super adamant that grace is not the main and more like the Ashley of the game where as Leon is lead.
And if that is true, this a weird bait and switch capcom is pulling.
I do believe them when they say RC is not the main setting though. I want to it be the whole game in the city I love too much so of course it’s not going to be there. It’s just like a pit stop to wherever the plot is really set.

MY BEST DAY EVER: MONSTER HUNTER EDITION
Allow me to give some background don't worry it gets less boring when I get into my perfect day part, but this was VITAL for you to know. You NEED to know my lore and background
2018 era- I still remember the exact moment my Monster Hunter journey began: January 26, 2018. A wide‑eyed 14‑year‑old me—Justice, living in Louisiana—saw the launch trailer for Monster Hunter: World and thought, “Whoa, you literally hunt monsters? Sign me up.” I’d never touched a single entry in the series (hard‑core veterans would probably crucify me for starting with World), but that title alone was enough to reel me in. The very second I got home, I booted up the game. I remember vividly the opening cutscenes and the hours of linear playing that followed before I was finally free to go about and do (mostly) what I wanted to do. I was hooked immediately and ran to school the next day to drag my classmate Avery into the chaos. We flailed through a very small portion of the game for a solid week before kinda just… stopping. The game felt brutally hard, and—let’s be honest—middle‑schoolers who have the attention span of a goldfish, not reading anything and skipping important information, are a recipe for disaster. Monster Hunter: World went back on the shelf, gathering dust while life kept rolling 2020 era- Fast‑forward to 2020. I’m in Tennessee now with a brand‑new friend group who finally convinced me to buy a PC. The Steam Summer Sale hits; Monster Hunter: World is cheap. I tell my friends that we should check it out. Summer was great—about 100 hours were sunk into the series, and we spent so many days just running around having fun—but, like everything, we played too much at once and got burned out right at the end of the big DLC, so back onto the shelf it went, again.
2022 era (third times the charm baby)-
Two years later, we dusted the game off again—and this is when the addiction clamped down harder than anything I’d felt before. We didn’t just clear the story; we 100‑percented everything: every quest, every crown, every achievement. The final monster (looking at you, Fatalis—my most hellish gaming experience ever) chewed us up for three straight months of on‑and‑off attempts before we finally triumphed. The dopamine rush was unreal.
2023-2024 MH:Rise & The Long Wait-
High on victory, we steamrolled through the next game, Monster Hunter Rise, and its Sunbreak DLC expansion. Then came the lull. The older titles weren’t on PC, but Capcom threw us a lifeline on December 7, 2023—the day they announced Monster Hunter Wilds. From that moment, our group chat became a nonstop rumor mill: datamined leaks, trailer‑frame‑by‑frame analyses, and wild theories about new weapon moves. Needless to say, we were excited.
February 28, 2025 – Enter Monster Hunter Wilds
After two agonizing years of countdowns and praying that our schedules lined up, launch day finally landed. My friend Avery from way back in Louisiana took PTO to play with us; my friends from Belmont—Tim, Raa’d, and Asher—and I (sorry, academic integrity) also skipped our classes and spent all day talking about the game. We stocked up on snacks—far too many snacks, if I’m being honest—but hey, we’d waited for this game for years, and nothing was going to stop it from being perfect, so dammit, I’m eating those Oreos! We spent the entire hour leading up to launch pressing the refresh button until 11 p.m., when we finally got in. There was a lot of screaming while we waited for the game to load, and the instant the servers went live, we dove head‑first into the untamed frontier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mass panic right here as we struggled to get in ^ I'll breeze slightly quickly through this part of the story to get to the meat and potatoes a bit faster, but we first started with character creation and spent a good amount of time on it. I decided that this time I was going to use a Hunting Horn—which is basically a musical instrument for combat—so I made my character look like a clown / jester, which I thought fit perfectly. After the character was finished, we hopped into the action for real this time.
Tumblr media
my awesome character who i love so deeply ^
I have to say, despite the reviews claiming the game was unoptimized and ran poorly, we all had a really smooth time with the actual gameplay. The cutscenes were fluid, and we were able to join up and hunt together almost right away. The first few hours flew by as we got our bearings and figured out all the new mechanics. It played much like the games we were used to, so it was easy to pick up.
We tackled the first few hunts together, beating the hell out of the entire first area before branching out to get sidetracked on our own. Around 2 a.m. we were all geared up and ready to keep going. Exhausted as we were, we still pushed forward, playing through the entire day—and beyond—with literally no sleep. This went on for almost two solid days before we finally decided to take a small nap at the 31 hour mark and then continue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the ganggggggg ^
After we woke up about six hours later, we got back to hunting—and I mean a lot of hunting. We fought through a slew of monsters together, multiple times, trying to snag the best pieces for our armor. Luckily, near the end there was one target we could all grind for to get ready for our first big hunt, but first let me explain something very important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some cool screenshots i took during our fights ^
Every mainline Monster Hunter release is split into two parts: Low Rank and High Rank, with a brutal‑but‑fun Master Rank arriving about a year later as a DLC expansion. The roughly 40 hours my friends and I had poured in so far were just to reach the Low‑Rank boss (Zoh Shia), so we were amped to kick its butt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
awesome banana sword for my cat and my fluffy armor (not drippy at all and super ugly tbh) ^ Now this is where it gets fun-
Zoh Shia’s lore is wonderfully complex—especially for lore nerds like me—but here’s the short‑and‑sweet version: it was a secret super‑weapon engineered by an ancient civilization called Wyveria to defend the kingdom from an unknown threat. The weapon proved too powerful to control and eventually wiped out its creators. The last few survivors sealed Zoh Shia inside the Dragontorch, a living bio‑reactor that powers the entire continent. Naturally, the ultimate weapon learned to feed on the Dragontorch’s energy and began twisting the continent’s natural phenomena. Realizing the danger, the Guild assigns our hunter to slay it—which let me say it's no small task, especially on only a few hours of sleep, because this thing is an absolute beast.
Tumblr media
Zoh Shia (if you look closely you can see me at its legs down there) ^ We got slapped around a bit, and while we didn’t have a ton of trouble, it was still a close call: we had one faint left when Zoh Shia finally neared death. Cue the screaming and panic as we ran around flailing and healing and making tons of mistakes in the heat of the moment under all the pressure.. When we finished the hunt, we celebrated—only to be reminded that even bigger threats were waiting in High Rank. That, however, would have to wait for another day. A quick glance at the timer showed our little gaming binge had lasted 59 hours, 38 minutes, and 3 seconds.
Tumblr media
my cool hunters name and my progress ^
Reflection-
I figured this would be the best way to knock out two birds with one stone—I’d get to binge a game with my friends and complete a hefty assignment, but it honestly turned into the best day…well, days…of my life. Even now, we still talk about it; the whole marathon became a core memory, and I love my friends for making it happen. They’d only planned to stay up for a little while, but when I told them about the assignment they buckled down with me, playing until we were ready to drop. That kind of support felt incredible.
This project showed me just how much I love and appreciate my friends—and how lucky I am to have people willing to go all‑in with me. Using what the textbook taught, I make sure to tell them I appreciate them more often, and it feels great. Seriously, it was an amazing, amazing, amazing time, and you’d better believe that when the DLC drops in a year or so, we’re doing it all over again!
Tumblr media
onto the next adventure ^

Leon showing his honest opinion about the government throughout RE Infinite Darkness.
Tumblr media
Leon’s complete lack of reaction when someone praises him and his position in the White House.
This is a job that has been forced on him. It was not something he wanted for his life or is proud of. Being praised for this position means nothing to Leon.
Tumblr media
Leon's rage against these specific zombies.
Remember these were not just Leon's coworkers, these people are politicians and agents who directly or indirectly involved in the life he has now and this was his only opportunity to say what he really feels about them.
Tumblr media
Leon's impatience with the lack of details about the mission.
He can already feel that something is wrong because US didn't try to hack the enemy before sending them to the field and he is not willing to be manipulated into a mission without a worthwhile cause. He doesn't trust them, he needs to know more.

Leon's resentment and heated speech disagreeing with the government's decisions regarding the Raccoon City incident.
Raccoon City changed Leon forever, not just because of the trauma, but because of everything that happened afterwards. Things the government did and blackmailed him into accepting, threatening his loved ones for it.
And Leon has a lot on his mind that he keeps to himself.
Tumblr media
Leon thought killing everyone in the sub were official orders.
He genuinely thought that the murders of the submarine crew were part of the mission the government signed off on for Jason and Shen Mai. He waited for the right moment to confront Jason and find out their (the government) true intentions.
Tumblr media
Leon stated the consequences of leaking classified information.
Going against the government is a death sentence and Leon knows this better than anyone since he is in their sights from the very beginning of his career. After years, he understands the risks they pose.
Tumblr media
Leon recognizes the government's typical behavior.
Hiding their dirty dealings in plain sight is something Leon has probably witnessed multiple times (even proven in previous games and movies) since most of his enemies become arrogant with the power they get from their privileged position. Wilson is a good example of this.
Tumblr media
Leon's final decision.
The decision to go against the government in his own way and try to fight the corruption and bioterrorism from inside is something that appears in many of Leon's stories set after Infinite Darkness.
In addition to all this, since RE2, Capcom always makes a point of stating Leon's opinion about the government in one way or another.
Tumblr media
Infinite Darkness wasn't the first Resident Evil that tried to show his resentment and struggle, but it was without a doubt one of the stories that delved deeper into it.
It's a recurring theme for Leon's storyline: showing someone trying to manipulate him, how he reacts to that and his character development over time.
We just have to wait and see where Capcom wants to go from there.

pardon me if you’re tired of discussing this but. we know aa7 is on capcom’s radar on some level. and now they’ve rereleased every game right?? they’ve finally run out of backlog material after almost yearly releases since 2019…. Not to put the clown wig and nose back on too early but do you think we’ll actually get news about, or get to see, aa7 next year?
Never tired of discussing this!! This is right around the time of year where I'd be preparing to make my yearly AA7 Speculation Post anyway so this is great timing. (TGS, my enemy, is approaching.)
So just to make sure everyone's on the same page, here's a quick recap of where we're currently at:
In November 2020 we got internal Capcom leaks which included a calendar from 2019 with the roadmap for the AA series the next couple of years. This included:
DGS1&2 collection, which I did not think was going to happen ever, releasing April-June 2021
AA7, releasing around October-December 2021, right around the 20th anniversary.
Through late 2019-mid 2022, reconsider porting 456
We got DGS1&2 (a bit later than in the plan, but by like a month), we got the 456 ports, we got bonus AAI ports, we have nothing for AA7 nearly three years after it was supposed to come out. The pandemic is an obvious feature that could contribute to its delay, but at this point with 456 ports out I think we can safely say that this was not the only cause.
Some other things that may or may not be contributing to AA7's delay include:
Yamazaki, the previous main writer for 5&6 and the AAIs, left Capcom in 2020. If he was involved in AA7 at all, that could throw a wrench into things, but I recall hearing he intended AA6 to be his last AA game (I AM STRUGGLING TO FIND THE SOURCE THOUGH SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME), so I don't think this contributed very much. It does, however, mean that we're unsure about who the next main writer is - depending on what Takumi's up to or if they had to bring someone new on, there could be complications related to that.
I think TGAA did way better than anyone expected, which I covered in this post. It's possible that this could have shifted Capcom's priorities to porting more old games / porting to all modern consoles. It may have made people at Capcom think "damn everyone loves Takumi" so they tried to lure him back to AA7, and I have no idea how well that would have gone or if Takumi is even interested in continuing mainline AA right now. (I do think this at least contributed to the Ghost Trick ports.)
In my first ever AA7 speculation post I talked about how the ending of AA6 kind of wrote them into a corner re: how to continue with the series and which protagonist to use. I still stand by that argument even if a lot of that post aged badly.
Console ports! Previously new AA games were for whichever Nintendo handheld is out now (GBA, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS). But now that the series is doing really well on all consoles, they may have decided to try to make their next mainline entry on all consoles, which would take more development time. Adding to this is that the Switch is near the end of its lifecycle with the Switch 2 (or whatever the successor will be) being announced soon - meaning that, if AA7 is coming out soon, Capcom is in the position of "do we try to squeeze this into the end of the Switch's lifecycle" (which, I'll need to find sources for this, is speculated to be some of the reasons behind why AAI2 and DGS2 sold badly when they were first released, and they can't make the same mistake thrice... right...?) or "do we try to time it with the release of the Switch 2"?
Also, a lot of this depends on how far AA7 was into development whenever it was derailed. If it was derailed from the pandemic, then according to the calendar, it would likely have still been in the prototype stage. It may be early enough that they would have had to start from scratch whenever they picked it up again. I don't work in the gaming industry so I have no idea how long it takes them to make a game or how easy it would be from what stage they're in.
One thing we can compare to is some of the comments about the recent AAI ports: in this interview, Shunsuke Nishida, the producer of the AAI collection, says that development on the collection began in 2022. He also mentions that this began once development on 456 was concluded. This leads me to believe that (contrary to my previous assumptions) 456 and AAIC were not developed concurrently (or if so, had very minimal overlap), and that the process of upscaling graphics, porting, and localization took them... about a year, maybe? So that takes time, even without taking into consideration how long it would take to come up with a new idea + write the script + the bulk of the programming that would have to be done that isn't considered with porting + probably way more than I can think of because again I do not work in the gaming industry.
There's also the question of why 456 and AAIC weren't developed concurrently. The calendar from 2020 shows that TGAA and AA7 were meant to be developed at least somewhat concurrently, and the staff from TGAA would eventually merge into working on AA7. Once again, we don't know what happened to the staff that were supposed to be working on AA7. It's possible pandemic complications meant they got shuffled onto other projects. It's possible the AA-related team is smaller now than it was in 2020, so they only have enough people to work on one project at a time. It's also possible that there's a team that was working on ports, and a team that was working on a new game, and now the "port team" is freed up to work on the "new game team".
Either way though, pretty much every interview with the staff for the 456 or AAI ports are all saying "look forward to the future of the series", which is definitely Corporate Speak, but unless they're bringing the ports of the Layton crossover (fingers crossed) that can only mean one thing. (AAI anime?) Plus, like I've discussed in this post, AA is having fantastic sales in general. They've seemingly either hired a new social media manager or changed the strategy so there is much more engagement on twitter. And AA is getting on bigger and bigger announcements - though AA trilogy ports were announced at TGS (at an AA-specific panel), TGAA duology ports were announced unceremoniously on twitter. Afterwards, 456 ports got announced at the Capcom Showcase during Summer Game Fest. And now AAI collection got announced at a Nintendo Direct, which I imagine is even more expensive, so the series must be going in a good direction for them to think that's worth it!
That's a lot of rambling for me to say I definitely think it's coming.
When are we going to see it though!!
Coming up in September is my eternal enemy Tokyo Game Show. Since AAI collection is being released at the beginning of September... it might be a bit too soon to announce a new game, but who knows. They might think it's profitable to ride the hype they're building now for AAI collection to announce a new game. Or they might let it sit for a while.
With AAIC getting announced at a Direct, I'm thinking they'll want to make AA7's announcement a) big and b) global. AA6 was announced in Famitsu, but the problem with that is that it's a mostly Japanese audience, and some interviews have been talking about how AA's global audience is particularly contributing to how big it is right now. So I'm expecting AA's next announcement to be at something major and something that will get attention from overseas audiences.
If they have been working on AA7 concurrently -- and honestly I do think there has at least been some progress on it since 2019 -- we could definitely see an announcement within the next year. I was also saying this in 2020, though, so don't take my word for it. There's been two year gaps between ports up until the AAI collection, and they seemed pretty proud about releasing 456 and AAI in the same year, so... maybe they'll want to keep it going and announce AA7 within the next year, especially if they'll have a longer announcement -> release period than they normally would for ports.
Potential candidates include:
Tokyo Game Show: As previously stated, it's very close to the AAIC release, so I don't think it's the best timing for it. I would not want my favorite AA game overshadowed by whatever the hell they're going to do with AA7. Likelihood: depends on how fast they want to follow up on the hype.
The Game Awards: is the next major gaming event, but that's already massive in terms of the type of games that get announced there, and it's expensive! Nintendo Direct is one thing since AA has always been a Nintendo-first series, but I don't think it's big enough to justify putting in a Game Awards ad. and I already have my clown wig on for persona 6 there. Likelihood: pretty low tbh
Next Year's Summer Game Fest-related Shows: I think this is the most likely, considering both the 456 collection and the AAI collection were announced around this time. For AA7 I'd say a Nintendo Direct to get lots of eyes on it, especially if AAIC sales pay off. Likelihood: pretty high!
Which leads me into my wildcard answer:
Switch 2 Announcement Stream: If Capcom decides to go in and make AA7 one of the first games for whatever the switch successor would be, it could be announced here. I regret to admit that I am a very bad gamer and only like two things, and therefore have not ever been present for one of these things to know how many games get announced as launch games for a new console, but, like, it's possible.
In the above scenario, I'm not necessarily saying that AA7 would be a Switch 2 exclusive - because I think that would be stupid after so much of the support they've gotten from the ports has been from playstation and steam - but I am definitely the kind of person who would buy a console for one video game. Shoutout to me buying a switch in part anticipating that aa7 would come out on it and that is not looking likely
Anyways, that's my speculation!! Reminder that this is mostly uninformed and that I have no knowledge of anything related to sales or marketing or video game development, and as a result of that, I have been wrong (aside from the one time I accurately predicted AAI ports as a joke) for four consecutive years.
