Red vs Blue Season 3 Rewatch

Slowly making my way through my DVD collection of Red vs Blue!

"You can't die! I'm bored!" Donut is so ruthless in the earlier seasons and I love it. 

We really needed more Tex and Sheila girltime, talking about gender inequality and workplace harassment. 

Simmons actually calling himself Simmons 2.0 manages to be both hilarious and sad.

Yes, Sarge and Caboose team up! Season 3 has some of my favorite odd couples, and Sarge and Caboose is one of my favorites. Sarge being furious that Doc has a higher body count than he does, Caboose's dedication to nap time. 

I love Caboose's moral boost! He's great at compliments even if Sarge doesn't appreciate them. 

I know these zealots were like a mostly one-off joke, but also like...they could be a creepy potential experiment in making soldiers that can't die, which I wouldn't put past anyone in the Halo universe. 

I love the blame game of who came up with the plan that ended up with everyone scattered across the galaxy. Sarge: "My only choice is to blame Grif, for coming up with such a flawed plan. Stupid, stupid Grif." Grif: "I should have never listened to Donut's stupid fucking plan." 

Church and Grif in jail is one of my all-time favorite things. 

Simmons is such a tech savvy guy, reworking the teleporters to make them communication devices as well! He just wants some love and support.

Caboose getting angry. I mean, who wouldn't get angry at kittens with spikes that you couldn't cuddle?

"Simmons, you get an F in efficiency. But I have to give you an A+ in dramatic timing."

I do love O'Malley and Doc's dynamic. The Do Not Call list!

I love Tex's half-truths about the Freelancers. 

Also love Sarge calling Caboose a little rascal and Simmons just seething with jealousy. And he's also jealous about Donut! 

Church: There's no "I" in team, Grif. Grif: Yeah, there's no "U" either. So I guess if I'm not on the team, and you're not on the team, nobody's on the God damn team. The team sucks!

I may or may not quote that to myself on a weekly basis. 

Again, just Church and Grif together in that prison cell is sheer perfection. As is Church going "Wait, the people outside sound like they're winning, that can't be our teams."

Tucker likes Sheila so much! And she packed them food! Well, the AI equivalent of food, but it's the thought that counts! Just the sheer affection in Tucker's voice as he promises her they'll be back gave me emotions. 

And another good moment of Simmons being the one to suggest they track down Grif, because no one else was going to. 

In retrospect, Grif has clearly watched some prison pornos. Like... Buddy.

Wyoming calling Tex Allison has so many interesting implications. 

Simmons re-engineers stuff, Sarge makes a weather control device. Where's the AU where Sarge is a mad scientist.

Simmons asking Grif if he's okay after prison. Just loving the slow build of friendship between them.

Also big parallels of Church's "Misery loves company" and his willingness to let the bomb blow them all up together to later seasons stuff.

I still love that everyone's go-to explanation for stuff is "time travel."

Donut is too thin-skinned about criticism for his play. He'd never survive on Broadway, lol. But I love everything about the time travel show.

How is Tucker the smartest person in this group? But also Tucker being so worried about Church. I am having a lot of Tucker feelings this season. 

I love Grif's devotion to cheesy disaster movies. 

Caboose: Look what I found. Donut: I found it! Caboose: Look at what I took credit for finding.

Poor Donut! A grenade to the head and now his hand got chopped up.

Grif: Hey, what're you doing? Simmons: What does it look like I'm doing, I'm getting in the jeep. Grif: What're we, on a date? Get in the back. Simmons: Oh you're so insecure.

I would've watched an entire season of Doc and O'Malley and Lopez's Lair Improvements. And when Doc mentions a real estate agent all I can think of is an AU where Doc meets Kai because she's running her business on the side while in the military. But also Doc's motivational powers in the living room, O'Malley's belief that the cat won't hang on until Friday, it's great.

The iconic jeep conversation is still good now as it was back then. Re-enacting Dukes of Hazzard! "I can tell you what we weren't doing." 

Grif's mind immediately going to gay stuff as a favor from Tex. Between this and his prison conversation with Church, someone is protesting way too much.

Sarge's plans are so amazingly terrible. I love them.

Grif getting choked up over hating Blue Team and Tucker and missing the days where they all just stood around and talked a lot.

Tex sounding genuinely concerned when Tucker falls into the hall. Luckily he gets a cool sword out of it!

Tex's conversation with Simmons about shooting Lopez's head is a great example of an eloquent helmet look. Tex doesn't even say a word and you can feel the disbelief and rage when Simmons implies she may have missed.

Church: Caboose, I know you're there. I'm leaving this message from two thousand years in the past. Whatever you do, don't, touch, anything. Apparently you're this culture's version of the apocalypse. You're going to destroy this building, and somehow bring about doom for their entire race. Caboose: Mmmmmmnooo... that doesn't sound like me. I like people. And buildings also.

Time for some actual time travel or at least a simulation. But I do love Butch Flowers, haha. Whose greatest enemy is apathy! Love watching Church just make his own life worse. Also love the bit about Sheila having been made in Mexico. 

"Man... First I kill myself, then I realise I'm a honkin' dork. Not a very good day to be me."

Church: I learned a very valuable lesson in my travels, Tucker. No matter how bad things might seem- Caboose: They could be worse. Church: Nope, no matter how bad they seem, they can't be any better, and they can't be any worse, because that's the way things fucking are, and you better get used to it Nancy. Quit yer bitching.

Grif and Simmons and Sarge talking about the Blues, and Simmons saying he's not looking for friends and doesn't like his current crop AKA he just accidentally admitted Grif is his friend. Grif just didn't realize it.

Between the warthog and monkeying about discussions, Church and Grif really are on the same wavelength. 

I love the scheming versus plotting conversation.

Ugh, the arrival of Andy. I hate him so much.

Haha, Simmons lying about his math skills is great.

Uuuugh, Andy. :/ Freckles is SUCH a step up as Caboose's AI murder buddy.

"Do we really have to seize destiny? Can't we just invite it to join our online circle of friends?"

I love Lopez's little rebellion-- he might be under O'Malley's control, but he's also going to sabotage O'Malley as much as possible. And tricking O'Malley into insulting himself in Spanish.

I really forgot that Tex straight up tried to steal Tucker's sword. 

Military law is very clear in regard to the "not it" methodology for making decisions. Sorry, Donut. 

I forgot that Donut can speak Spanish. In fairness, so did the show. 

Hello, Crunchbite! 

Next up, the PSAs! 

Some of these have aged poorly... Like, uh, jokes about 2004 politics do not land well in 2020. And uh jokes about colds and flus. ...Okay, the Christmas PSA where Church destroys the Reds' Christmas tree, tells Caboose the truth about Santa Claus, gives everyone knock-off coal, convinces Church that Santa is now wearing blue and working only for the Blues, and scams Tucker out of a $350 gift is pretty funny though.  

I enjoyed Burnie playing himself in the outtakes by putting words he can't pronounce in his own script. And Grif singing Happy Birthday to Church in prison. Also poor Geoff being told to adlib and immediately having Grif start to tell Church "You're looking buff, man, have you been working--" and being immediately booed by everyone, and someone says they'll use it for an outtake and Geoff is like "It's funny! And I didn't even get to finish!" And everyone trying to figure out Tucker's sword and him accidentally killing everyone in various outtakes. And in the deleted scenes Tex keeps making fun of O'Malley's plans to rule the universe, haha. Also the deleted scene that's just another Simmons' self-insert fanfiction, just as a video instead of a fake game in the Fan Guide.

It also gave us character profiles! I'm sure a lot of this has since been contradicted in canon, but interesting that we got specific hometowns for a few people: Donut in Leggatt Plains, Iowa, which doesn't seem to be a real place; Moscow, Iowa for Sarge, which actually does; Tucker's from Detroit, and Delta Commune for Doc. Oh, is this where we get Caboose grew up on the moon, with his hometown being labeled as Low G Colony, Moon? And hey, I always had him be a middle child, I like that this one did too. Tex likes money and scars and dislikes Donut. Okay I know that's definitely not real, but the idea of Allison growing up in an orphanage hurts me a little. Okay, and I know for sure that Simmons would die of happiness at the fact that Sarge's likes are battles, fringe science, and Simmons. Lopez likes oil and unions, and hates capitalism. My kind of guy. Last but not least, I actually really like Simmons as the son of a bunch of right-hand stooges (who probably wanted power for themselves).

Letters (Jon Snow x Reader)

Description: The letters you share with Jon are slowly getting more familiar until you are forced to stop. Years pass with nothing, and Jon is starting to lose hope, until finally a new letter arrives.

To Jon Snow,

I have finally arrived at King’s Landing. The journey was uneventful for the most part. I am sure you must have heard about what happened to Sansa’s direwolf. I truly wish it didn’t have to happen, but my mother is not one to let such things go easily.

I know my uncle, Tyrion, traveled north with you, saying something about seeing the edge of the world. I understand he can be a bit trying at times, but he truly is a kind person. Please be patient with him. How is your new life in the Night’s Watch? Please write soon, it’s awfully boring in King’s Landing.

Jon thought for a moment, quill in hand as he stared at the piece of parchment before him. He had to remember what he was taught. He must use his manners, even if it felt like he was talking to an old friend.

The Night’s Watch wasn’t what I was expecting. In truth, your uncle was the only one to tell me what it really was. The men here have no honor. They hate me simply because I am better than them.

You uncle seems to be enjoying his stay. He sits with the Lord Commander at dinners and is given plenty of furs to keep warm, though he is always saying how cold it is. Are my sisters alright? Arya has some trouble with being a lady, and I’m worried about how she will fare in the South.

Sansa has taken quite well to life in the south. She acts almost as if she were born to be here. Arya sometimes has trouble with her duties as a Lady, but she raves about her new dancing instructor. She’s asked me to tell you she is even more skilled with her needle than Sansa is with her own. Hopefully, you can make more sense of that than I.

Please remember that, while it may not seem so, you grew up with far more luxury than many of the boys you are living with. Perhaps try to help them, and they will begin to see things your way.

Your father is to have a tournament in his honor soon. The entire city is talking about it. My uncle, Jaime, is favored to win, but I’ve heard whispers of a new knight named Ser Loras Tyrell. What do you think will happen?

Jon smiled. Of course you would yell at him. He could just imagine you scoffing to yourself as your read his first sentence, rolling your eyes and reaching for your quill in defiance. He frowned to himself. He wanted to impress you somehow, but with what?

“Jon, hand me one of those pieces of parchment,” Sam called. Jon smiled. That was perfect.

You were right. The men in here with had never even picked up a sword. Once I started to help them learn a bit more, they started talking with me. A new man has arrived just recently. His name is Samwell Tarly. A man named Rast was told to attack him, but I stopped it. Ser Allister Thorne, the man training me, is very angry at me. Rast wanted to keep hurting Sam, but we made things very clear with the help of Ghost. No one will be attacking him any time soon. That made Thorne even more angry, but I’m hoping it’ll pass.

Please tell Arya that no matter what her dancing instructor told her, I’m the one who taught her the first rule of how to use her Needle. I have heard the rumors you speak of, but I doubt anyone could unhorse the Kingslayer in his own city. Do tell me how the tournament went. If I know my father, he’s working himself too hard as the King’s Hand. If he is, please tell him to take a break. How is your family? Is Joffrey treating Sansa well?

I’m so sorry. You must know by now that my uncle has been taken prisoner by the Lady Stark. She claims he had something to do with your poor brother’s predicament. When my uncle Jaime confronted your father with the news, Lord Stark took credit for everything. My uncle was outraged, and they got into a fight. One of the guards stabbed your father’s leg with a spear and they left him there. He is alive, and the Maester has hope, but he looks awful.

Please, if you hold any sway with Lady Stark, ask her to release my uncle. Tyrion loves children, and he likes Bran. I know he would never hurt him.

Jon inhaled sharply. He had no doubt what you were saying was true, and he’d met Tyrion before. He wished he could help you, but Catelyn hated him with every fiber of her being. She would never listen to what he had to say, whether it was true or not. Still, he was determined to offer you some comfort.

I’m sorry, but I hold no favor with Lady Catelyn. She would never do something simply because I asked it of her, and I fear she might even react violently to any suggestion. But fear not. Lady Catelyn is rather vindictive, but she is not stupid. She understands that killing Tyrion could be very dangerous for her family.

I have some good news, bad news, and disappointing news. My uncle’s horse arrived alone at the gates recently. I’m worried he might have died beyond the wall. I am an official man of the Night’s Watch now, but I’ve been appointed the steward of the Lord Commander, Jeor Mormont. Sam says he’s grooming me, but I’d still rather be a ranger, like my uncle. Please give me some advice. Your council is always comforting and wise.

Jon frowned and reread the letter. It didn’t sound like you. It sounded too forced. You’d never used your title before.

He knew he should be concerned with the content of the letter. The thought of his father in the dungeons and his brother marching on the south terrified him, but the idea that you might be in trouble almost made him sick to his stomach.

Quickly he’d made up his mind. He saddled his horse and fled Castle Black. He didn’t get very far before Sam, Pip, and Grenn stopped him.

“Jon, you can’t leave. You’ll be killed as a deserter!” Sam said.

“It’s my family, Sam,” Jon lied. He knew in his heart that he was riding to King’s Landing. He needed to make sure you were safe. “I can’t just ignore what’s happening.”

“We’re your family now,” Sam insisted. “We’re your brothers.”

“I’m not going back, Sam,” Jon warned. He started to move again.

“Night gathers, and so my watch begins!” Pip moved forward to cut him off again. “It shall not end until my death. I shall live and die by my post.”

Grenn quickly picked up the oath. “I am the sword in the darkness.”

“The watcher on the Wall,” Sam continued.

Then, all three spoke at once, repeating the oath they had memorized like the back of their hands. “I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.”

Jon grit his teeth together. He knew what you would say. You’d say he made a commitment and he had to honor it. Sam handed him Longclaw, meeting his eyes and almost begging him not to go. Jon nodded slightly and went with his brothers back to Castle Black.

(Suuuuuper long time skip)

Years passed, and it never got any easier for Jon. Thoughts of you plagued him day and night. He’d received letters speaking of your betrayal of the royal family. According to Cersei’s propaganda, you helped to aid the fugitive, Sansa, after she killed your brother. It was a slight comfort to him that you were with his sister, but he would still rather have you here, in his arms.

Then the letter arrived.

Dearest Jon,

It has been far too long since we last exchanged letters, and for that I am truly sorry. I was forbidden from sending anything to you, and all of my ravens were monitored on a constant basis. Now, I am asking for your help.

Your sister, Sansa, has become a dear friend of mine, and I fear she is in far greater danger than she realizes. I do not trust the man she is with any more than I would trust a lion. Now she is to marry Ramsay Bolton, the bastard who was newly made a lord. I’ve heard rumors of Ramsay’s cruelty, and the fact that his father betrayed his honor and your family makes me even more wary of him. What I’m asking, Jon, is to know that, should we need it, we could be safe in Castle Black. I know I have no right to ask such things after all this time, but I need your help, now more than ever.

Weeks passed without a reply, and Jon found himself constantly pacing back and forth, hoping for your arrival.

He was no longer obligated to stay on the Night’s Watch - he’d done his duty and given his life. He was finally free to tell you how he felt. If only you were here.

There was a commotion down in the square, men murmuring amongst themselves. Jon looked down to meet your eyes. You had grown a lot. You’d been beaten and worn and thrown around like you were nothing. Yet still, you had a fire in your eyes.

You were just as he pictured those many nights standing guard on the Wall. Your beautiful (H/C) hair cascading down in waves, those same pools of (E/C) gazing into his very core. Tears clouded your eyes, and Jon couldn’t take it anymore. He ran down into the middle of the square, taking you into his arms in a warm embrace. You were dirty and sweaty and a bit bloody, but he couldn’t imagine letting you go.

After a very long embrace, the two of you parted. Jon held your face gently in his hands, studying every detail like it was the last he’d ever see you.

“Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, eh?” You smiled weakly. “You’ve done quite well for yourself, haven’t you?”

Jon shook his head. “I no longer have any obligations or ties to the Night’s Watch. I’ve done my duty, and I’m free to leave.”

You were silent a moment, staring into his eyes in shock. Finally, you uttered three words. “Thank the gods.” You crashed your lips into his in what must have been the most passionate kiss in history. Everything the two of you had been through went into that kiss, from the moment you met, to when you lost all hope of seeing one another again, to finally reuniting after years apart. You loved each other, more than anything else in the world, and through this kiss, you both knew it. Jon made up his mind the second your lips touched. He would never leave you again, for this night and all the nights to come.

Favorite thing about them: There is not one. The man’s adorable. He’s so kind and pure he can’t survive under capitalism. He loves his kids, his wife, his kingdom. He’s a big thicc fluffball and I will protect and love him forever.

Least favorite thing about them: The dude needs to learn to stand up for himself. Deltarune Asgore breaks my heart because he literally is too nice for his own good. He just wants to be happy. Let him be happy, Toby. Coward.

BrOTP: Asgore and Undyne are not siblings but the best father/daughter duo ever. Thank god for the fan content because the game itself teased us with so much and gave us so little itself.

OTP: A S G O R I E L F O R E V E R. Let him be happy with his wife again. They need to win another nose nuzzling championship to re-establish themselves as the cutest fucking couple ever.

NOTP: Asgore and Mettaton. The art is cute, but like… I feel like Mettaton would be a bit much for him? Mettaton’s a better life coach than boyfriend. 

Random headcanon: As king on the surface, he’s an international campaigner for LGBTQ+ rights, as not only are monsters traditionally very accepting but he (like all other boss monsters) is pan. 

Unpopular Opinion: Apparently thinking he’s a good boy who deserves the world is unpopular. I will never forgive the early fandom for being so cruel to him. He deserves better. 

Song I associate with them: Uh… Asgore I guess? Again, not really someone who listens to songs and associates them with characters, lol. I vaguely remember thinking that he would sing like, old nordic drinking songs, like The Misty Mountains song from the Hobbit.

Favorite picture of them: Not to be lewd but there’s a picture of him shirtless stretching done in a slightly realistic style and.. gods am I gay for that image.

Today's the day: Windbreaker city. Aka, the best day of the year.

"Hey, Homeland Security, gather around. I have bad news," Agent Kendrick sighs. We all turn to him to hear his news. "Unfortunately, our friends at the DOD have had to drop out, and have been replaced with the NYPD." He rolls his eyes. I don't like Kendrick; he's an ass. I like the NYPD! I mean, our jobs would be much harder if it weren't for them. And they're nice people and underrated. However, I can't voice my opinion. Not here anyway. A load of sighs and groans are projected. Snooty pricks. "I know, I know. But this should be the only time it happens. Now everyone in the bus." We all get in, me even more eager now that I know that the NYPD will be there. But I obviously don't show it.

*At the venue*

Ah, it's nice to be back. I love Windbreaker city. I love getting to meet new people through it and seeing my friends. I could become friends with someone on the NYPD! Today's gonna be a good day.

*10 minutes later*

I've changed my mind. It's going to be awful. I saw my ex. He must work in the NYPD. Crap.

"Stella, I'm gonna need your help today," I say to Stella, my closest friend at Homeland Security.

"Why? What happened? You never need help."

"My ex is here."

"Oh. You need help avoiding them?"

"Yes. He works for the NYPD and his name is Jake Peralta. He has brown hair and eyes. We dated in high school but had a few disagreements about somethings and broke up. It was very messy."

"I'll do the best I can."

"Alright, everyone take their seats. My name is Agent Kendrick, Homeland Security, and I am in charge here. This year's scenario: terrorists have stormed the Capital Trust's Bank building and have taken hostages."

"Noice," I hear, followed by a high five.

"Yup, definitely Jake Peralta," I whisper to Stella.

"Oh, cool trick. I don't have a ton of free time to practise high fiving," mocks Kendick (yes, that was intended), before doing exactly what I'm assuming Jake did. I roll my eyes, annoyed at him.

"Oh, I'm sorry, y/n. Did you just roll your eyes at me?" Kendick asks. Well, that threw any chance of Jake not seeing me out the window.

"No, sir," I respond, despising that I have to call him sir.

"That's what I thought. Now, here are your assignments:" Kendick starts, but I feel a pair of eyes focused on me. I look up in Jake's direction, locking eyes with him. Yup, he's definitely seen me.

"Never mind," I whisper to Stella.

"ATF, you will be our terrorists. Homeland Security, you are command control. Marshals, strike team alpha. And NYPD..." he pauses to look at his clipboard, but I already know what he's going to say. "It says here that you will be our hostages."

"What? So you just want us to lay on the ground and nothing like a bunch of losers?" the familiar voice asks.

"Yes, precisely."

"No!"

"Jackpot!" a third voice yells.

*Later*

I see Jake come outside.

"What is he doing? He's supposed to be a hostage," Kendick says in rage and marches over to him.

"I knew this wouldn't go well," I mumble. They talk for a few minutes and Kendick makes his way back over to us. However, before he reaches us, Peralta does the thing I prayed that he wouldn't.

"Hey y/n! It's been a while, hasn't it?"

"What do you want, Peralta?"

"To talk."

"We'll talk later, once the drill is finished."

"Fine." And with that, he walks back inside. All eyes are on me.

"You know him?" Kendick asks.

"High school."

"We'll try and use it to our advantage then. Lure him out and we'll get him. But first, you need to get a sausage pizza and some gasonex."

"Ok?" I leave after that and head to the nearest Papa John's.

"Hi, can I get a sausage pizza please," I ask the cashier.

"Of course. Is that all?"

"Yes."

"$15 please." I give them a twenty dollar bill.

"Keep the change."

"Thank you, your pizza should be ready in at most 10 minutes."

"Thank you." 10 minutes should be enough time to quickly grab some gasonex, especially since there's a CVS next door. I quickly grab and pay for it, heading back for the pizza. Luckily, it's ready so I pick it up and thank the cashier.

I arrive back at where we're based, I see that the NYPD are here, but they don't see me, so I put the pizza on a car and hide so they don't see me. I have a plan. I wait for everyone to take each other out, until there's supposedly only Jake and Kendick left. They seem to be having a conversation, when I get up secretly and aim. Then I notice that the NYPD are about to say something to Jake and I hold my finger up to my lip and motion that I'm gonna get Kendick. Just as I see Kendick start to pull his gun out, I shoot, killing him.

"What the heck? Who shot me? You're all out!"

"Correction. They're all out. I'm still in."

"y/n? Why are you on their team? You work for Homeland Security."

"Yeah, but you were prejudice and, frankly, a bit of a dick."

"Whatever, let's go. Everyone. I need to talk to the losers." I roll my eyes at his comment.

*Back in the hall where they had the briefing*

"Interesting tactic, detectives. Show up at your first inter-agency drill and mess the whole thing up," Kendick says, seeming quite pleased with himself.

"Less of a tactic and more a series of incredible events," Jake quips.

"And what was the most incredible event... was it screwing up the entire drill in it's many years of being run in front of all your friends?"

"Pfft, I have other friends."

"Who?" questions the man next to Jake.

"I knew it was a dumb idea to invite the NYPD to a federal drill."

"Shut up, Kendrick. People provoked them, and you under mimed them by giving them the role of hostages or, as Jake's vest now says, hos. Of course they weren't going to follow the rules. Everyone was a prick to them. Plus, they still took out pretty much everyone. Next time, if people aren't so prejudice, maybe they'll follow the rules," I point out.

"Oh, there won't be a next time. But maybe I'll see you at the Pentagon Christmas party. Oh right. You guys aren't invited to those. Kid Rock was there. Those were my last words, bro." He walks away, full of pride.

"I'm sorry about Kendick," I say to the NYPD squad after he's out of earshot.

"What did you just call him?" Jake asks.

"Kendick. He may be my superior, but if he fires me, his superiors will fire him. I can talk at him with whatever attitude I want. After all, I'm the top agent at Homeland Security. Look, Jake, I'm sorry you didn't get him yourself, but he was about to John McClane you."

"Don't worry. Today's been a total win. I haven't checked my phone in forever. Now that I've said that, I do kinda wanna check it though. I'm gonna just do it." Jake pulls out his phone. "No text. But, I'm probably 20% less devastated than I would've been this morning and that's thanks to you guys." Jake suddenly realises something and lets out a small gasp. "I catharted."

"You catharted hard," says the muscular guy next to me.

"Break up?" I whisper to the guy next to me.

"Yup."

"Ah. That's rough."

"Jake arrested her boss because he caught him doing cocaine. And she was a defence attorney."

"A cop dating a defence attorney?! That's brave."

"Yeah. They were quite cute together though."

"Hey, y/n. Let me introduce you to the squad."

"Wait. You're y/n? As in y/f/n that Jake went to high school with?" the guy next to me asked.

"Yes. Did you know he had a nose ring?"

"Oh my god, did he actually? I'm so holding that against you, Peralta," a woman with long, curly hair laughs.

"If you don't mind me asking, why did you two break up?" the other woman asks.

"We both got really stressed and took it out on each other with loads of petty fights. It was quite stupid. And these were very petty fights. Like, we took it to a whole new level," I explain.

"Yeah, I think they get it y/n/n. Anyway, this is Detective Rosa Diaz, Detective Amy Santiago, Detective Charles Boyle and Sergeant Terry Jeffords."

"Hey, what about us?"

"They're Hitchcock and Scully."

"Nice to meet you guys. You all seem close. I wish I had that with my co-workers. I've only got one actual friend here. Plus everyone is a snob who looks down on literally anyone who doesn't work for a federal agency."

"Sounds awful," Jake inputs.

"It is. But I like my job and they won't let me transfer anywhere else, so I'm stuck here. Fun. Anyway, I'm sure you have stuff to do, I won't stop you. Go when you want, but I'm gonna stick around a while." Everyone disperses, some going into small conversations, some going to a vending machine and others dong other stuff.

"Hey, y/n. Can we have that talk now?" Jake asks.

"Sure." I look at Charles and wait for him to leave.

"Charles, I meant in private. Could you maybe talk to Amy and Rosa for a bit?" Jake asks, realising that Boyle's still here.

"Oh, right. Sorry," he apologises, going to talk to the girls.

"So, what do ya want?" I ask.

"To start over."

"Pardon?"

"We ended our relationship in an awful way, but I think we could be good friends now."

"So do I."

"However, I just got out of a relationship so, no matter how hard it is, you can't fall in love with me. Yet." He sends me a playful wink.

"You've not changed, have you, Peralta?"

"Of course not! I'm still that awesome. Only, even more so now that I've gotten rid of that nose piercing and awful haircut."

"You looked like an emo, not gonna lie. What would happen if I hit the g-note on a piano?"

"What would happen if I hit the g-note, title of your sex tape." I roll my eyes.

"This is gonna be an amazing friendship, I can already tell."

"Yeah, friendship."

"Hey, y/n, is that you?!" a voice says from across the room. I look to see who it is. Ah crap.

"How many of my exes are cops, bloody hell," I mumble. "Hey Brian. What d'you need?" I ask, a fake smile plastered on my face.

"I was wondering if you wanted to catch up over a meal? As a date, maybe?"

"Why would I go on a date with you? Especially since you cheated on me. Besides, I have a boyfriend."

"Oh. Who?"

"Me. I'm their boyfriend," Jake announces, obviously sensing my desperate need for help.

"Oh, come on. You can do better, y/n. He's from the scum bucket."

"1. Don't ever say that about the NYPD and 2. I'm good thanks. He's better than you ever were."

"Doubt it. And if he truly is your boyfriend, prove it."

"I don't have to prove anything to you, you--" but I get cut off by a pair of lips on mine. I kiss back, after about a second of shock. I pull away shortly after and turn back to Brian. He's just stood there in shock. "Now get out of here before I kick you where the sun don't shine, Brian!" He scrambles out of the room, now shocked and scared.

"How did he become a federal agent?" Jake asks.

"His dad is head of the ATF. That's literally the only reason."

"Oh."

"And thanks for doing that, but you didn't have to, really."

"It was nothing. I was just trying to be a good friend. Yeah. A good friend."

"Ok, yeah. A really good friend." My comment is then followed by an awkward silence. "So. How's life?" I awkwardly laugh.

"Fine. You?"

"Strange." Another awkward silence. "I'm gonna go, I need to work," I awkwardly announce, trying to find a way out of the situation.

"Sure, yeah. We should get going too. Bye."

"Bye." That has to've been the most awkward conversation of my life. I have no idea what my new 'friendship' is gonna hold but I'm scared.

rip that’s all I write too... tbh I used to write original fiction before but I find myself much less constricted by fanfic? I can explore the characters here more than I can in original fiction where worldbuilding takes most effort

oh definitely paper! if I could I’d buy printed out fanfic too!

I was about 12 I think? it all started with harry potter, like everything else has, and I regret not a second of it!

sometimes when i get very excited about what i’m writing i’ll tell my fandom friends about the specific AU that i’m writing about but in terms of reading the full length fic, i don’t have anyone that i let read before anyone else. it’ll be on ao3 for everyone at the same time.

my desk, my pc. I can write on my phone but I like to edit as I go and it’s hard to do on the phone.

oh wow ok this is a difficult one bc I don’t think I even have a wip 7 pages long //sweats let me see... aha, okay, I found one! from back in march when I asked people to send me over some numbers for one of those writing memes and @theexitgarden I believe (??) sent me the prompt “I don’t think anyone could be as lovely as you” for victuuri and I kind of got a blind!victor au from it?? wELP here’s the fragment of it:

Watching the drama of The Don’s refusal to concede unfold, I struggled to find a way to organize my thoughts.

We did learn that The Don believed he was the “golden goose” for Fox News and wants to destroy all the eggs he produced for them because they called Arizona for Biden and had the nerve to call the election for Biden. Now that’s a fight I would pay to see. Maybe that’s what the 3rd season of “Succession” (the HBO series based on Rupert Murdoch and his media empire), should be.

I also heard the word non-zero used for the first time in my life in reference to one of The Don’s frivolous lawsuits. The Don’s lawyer was arguing that there weren’t poll workers observing in certain polling places. When the judge pushed the lawyer on that nonsense he actually said: “There were nonzero people in that room,” a tactic that seemed straight out of “Alice in Wonderland.” Was that a planned strategy to confuse the judge? “Of course,” said the judge, “nonzero people, makes perfect sense to me. Your case is uphelddown. “What,” said the lawyer, “do we win or lose?”

We also got to see Rudy G. go so low he now lives in the sewer. Do you see the look in his eyes? Someone should find the rabid dog that bit him (or the dog he bit?) before it finds another victim. There was Rudy pushing the president’s case at a press conference at “The Four Seasons.”

Rumor has it that Rudy was trying to increase the crowd size so he thought if he announced the press conference was taking place at the Four Seasons (the swanky hotel in downtown Philadelphia), reporters would think: That’s kind of posh, maybe they’ll serve martinis and caviar.

Instead they found themselves in a parking lot in North Philadelphia in front of Four Seasons Total Landscaping, which was buttressed by a sex shop, a crematorium, and a jail. When asked why he chose this spot, rumor has it he replied: “I thought it was perfect. Sex sells, there is so much death going around from that annoying virus and well jail, that’s where we are going if we don’t turn these election results around.”

You have to love the owners of Four Seasons Total Landscaping as they capitalized on the publicity and created t-shirts like Lawn and Order and Make America Rake Again. The Don was so impressed with their capacity to monetize the situation that he called the owner to inquire if he wanted to be part of his Treasury Department during his second term.

But it gets better. The freak show included a passionate plea from Daryl Brooks, who claimed he was a poll worker and wasn’t given access to watch the counting of the votes. Turns out Daryl had a somewhat checkered past as he was incarcerated in the 1990s on charges of sexual assault, lewdnes,s and endangering the welfare of a minor for exposing himself to two girls ages 7 and 11. Frankly, not the kind of guy you want looking too closely at anything.

It would all be deliciously absurd if it wasn’t so devastating and amoral. The attention on The Don’s antics while the pandemic surges makes it feel like we are living in yes, you got it, an alternate reality. ICU’s across the nation reaching capacity, medical staff overworked and traumatized, the number of cases moving toward 200,000/day-a death march of catastrophic proportions. Meanwhile The Don is having a tantrum and Republicans are placating him as usual.

What is The Don thinking. No one knows for sure but here are my thoughts in verse. Hope you enjoy it

Hockey, quick and dirty (no, not like that)

So the Stanley Cup Finals are upon us and I’m guessing a few people who’ve never watched hockey might decide to check it out, especially since no matter who wins this year, it’ll be historic.

A lot of people watching hockey for the first time: OMG WHAT THE HAP IS FUCKENING SO MANY MOVING THINGS.

Worry not. I am Here For You.

What even is going on here. I’m dizzy.

Yeah, that happens. What is going on here is that two teams of six dudes each are trying to get a six ounce rubber puck into the back of the other team’s net. They do this by skating rlly fast, banging into each other, cursing a lot, and flinging the puck around. That’s it, basically. Hockey isn’t very complicated in its basics. There is one way to earn a point (make the puck go into the net) and one way to win (be better at making the puck go into the net than the other guys).

I feel your pain. Watching hockey on tv is a bit of an acquired skill. If it helps, watch the players, not the puck. Ironically, watching it live is WAY easier.

Who are these six dudes?

Each team is allowed six players on the ice. Almost all the time, those six players are three forwards (who are supposed to shoot the puck and score - a group of 3 forwards is called a “line”), two defensemen (who are supposed to stop the other team from being able to score, and get the puck back for their team) and one goalie (whose whole job is to stand in front of the net, be huge and impenetrable, and stop the puck from going in). But except for the goalie, everyone shares in all the jobs to varying degrees. Defensemen often score, and forwards often defend. There is at least one NHL team whose top scorer is a defenseman.

There are way more dudes on the bench. What are they even doing, cheering?

They’re waiting for their turn. Each team can have 23 players on their active roster, but can only “dress” (get geared up and ready to play) 20 players for each game. They usually dress four lines of forwards, three defensive pairs, and two goalies (a primary and a backup - most of the time the backup sits on the bench the whole game. He only goes in if the primary gets hurt or gets scored on a LOT). If you are not familiar with the players and their numbers, you’re probably not noticing that the players on the ice change constantly. Hockey is so strenuous that you can’t do it at full game speed for more than a minute. Forwards play in “shifts” of usually 30-45 seconds, defensemen usually 1 to 2 minutes. They swap out as the coaches direct, without stopping play. I have yet to stop being impressed by this. You often don’t see the changes on TV because the cameras stay with the puck, and the players are changing off-camera.

Wait...what’s a power play? That sounds kinky.

A big part of hockey is penalties. You get penalties for doing not-cool stuff with your stick, your body, your skates. Most are minor penalties (two minutes) - there are also double minors (four minutes) and majors (five minutes). When a team is charged with a penalty, a player goes to the box, usually (but not always) the player who committed the penalty. You’re not allowed to replace the player who’s in the box, so this means his team is short one player, and the other team has an advantage, which is called a power play. Teams have a special group of players for the power play (usually their best forwards) and also a special group for when they’re at a disadvantage (called a penalty kill, heavy on their best defensemen because they want to survive the penalty without getting scored on). It’s possible to have TWO players in the box at once resulting in a 5-on-3 advantage (a two-man advantage is the maximum allowed) and sometimes you’ll get one player from each team with a penalty, resulting in a 4 on 4 period.

Icing? Offsides? These are clearly not cake-decorating terms.

Hockey is played in three periods of twenty minutes each with a 15 minute intermission between them. During those periods, play continues until a whistle is blown or a goal is scored. Whistles are blown for penalties, when the goalie freezes the puck (stops it and hangs on to it so it can’t be played), the puck goes out of play (over the glass or into the bench) or when the teams commit the infractions of icing or offsides. Icing is when someone shoots the puck from behind the center line all the way to the opposite end. You’re not supposed to do that. When the puck is being played toward the offensive zone, the puck has to be the first thing across the “blue line” (the line that marks the beginning of the offensive zone). If an offensive player beats the puck across the line, that’s offsides. 

Hey, they’re fighting! That can’t be allowed, right?

Well...yeah, it kind of is. Hockey players frequently get in minor little shovey-shovey sweary shouty skirmishes (this is often referred to as the players getting “chippy”). Those aren’t fights. Real capital-F Fights are actually a stat that is kept for teams and players. An official fight is usually at least semi-planned and the refs are sort of given a heads-up about it, they usually just stand there and let it happen, and the players keep each other from piling on. It’s a real fight if the players drop their gloves and if punches are thrown. Believe it or not, learning to “hockey fight” so you don’t actually injure yourself or the other player is a skill that players are taught. It happens, but usually both players will get some variety of penalty (roughing or fighting depending on the severity and who started it). There was a real fight in last night’s game although it was really more like a minute-long hug session.

They’re totally running into each other. A lot.

Yep. That’s called checking, or hitting. It’s legal to hit a player who has the puck in order to get possession away from him. But there are a lot of rules - you can’t hit someone who doesn’t have the puck, you can’t hit the player with the puck from behind, you can’t hit them above the shoulders or below the knees, you can’t use your elbows, and so forth. Legal hits can still be pretty brutal and how penalties are called for illegal hits is wildly inconsistent. Hits are another stat kept for the teams and it’s a measure of how aggressive they’re being in taking puck possession.

Hey, the players are getting points too, not just the teams.

Yes, they are! Hockey is very team-oriented. It’s extremely rare for a player to score a goal without one of his teammates setting it up for him, or getting the puck to him in a way that enables him to score. Players get equal points in their individual stats for both goals and assists. Each goal has the possibility of two assists - the guy who touched the puck before the goal-scorer, and the guy who touched it before that. Assists are not recorded on every goal, and some goals only have a primary assist and not a secondary. When we talk about players’ stats, the ones most frequently mentioned for forwards are total points (goals + assists), goals, and points per game (goals + assists divided by number of games played). Any player will tell you that the ability to just shoot the puck into the net is not the most important part of offensive play - the ability to “create offense” and set up plays that result in a goal is even more important. Some players are goal-scorers (Alex Ovechkin is one example) and some are players that do more offensive creation (Sidney Crosby is like that). 

DUDE THE GOALIE IS GONE. DID HE REMEMBER THAT HE LEFT THE OVEN ON?

If the goalie is gone it’s probably in the last 2 minutes of the game and his team is losing. There is no rule that says you HAVE to have a goalie on the ice and you’re allowed six players, so if you pull your goalie, you can put another forward on to score. If there’s 2 minutes left and your team is down by 1 or 2 goals, if you pull your goalie, the worst that can happen is you’ll lose MORE, and you might be able to tie the game and force overtime, or even win, if you put yourself at a man advantage with an extra skater. This is called an “empty net” situation and it’s nerve-wracking, especially if your team is the one that pulls the goalie. All it takes is for the other team to break away from your defense and they can pretty much score unchallenged. (There is another situation, delayed penalties, during which a team pulls their goalie during other times in the game, but that’s a bit advanced. I can explain it if anyone’s curious)

Um, is it me or do these playoffs take forever?

It’s not you. The Stanley Cup playoffs take forever. Sixteen teams make the playoffs (out of 30, soon to be 31 teams total) and they play four rounds, each of which is a best-of-seven. The winning team at the end could have played as many as 28 games in the post-season - the regular season is 82 games long. There are four divisions in the league grouped into two conferences. Each division sends their top three teams to the playoffs, then each conference sends the next two highest-scoring teams for a total of eight teams per conference. Those eight play for the conference championships, then those last two teams go on to play for the Stanley Cup. This year’s western conference champions, the Nashville Predators, and the eastern conference champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins, are two games in to the final round now. Pens are up 2-0 games in the series. Each round takes about two weeks - the playoffs started April 12 and could end as late as mid-June if the final round goes to seven games.

A lot of these dudes seem to be Canadian.

Yep. Hockey is Canadian for sure. Of the players in the NHL, 50% are Canadian (if you can name a world-famous hockey player there’s about a 95% chance he’s Canadian), 25% are American and 25% are European of some other variety (mostly Russian, Swedish, Czech and Finnish). One of the things about hockey that bugs me is that it’s SO WHITE. There are many reasons for that, but it’s getting better. At this year’s All Star Game there were six minority players invited, and there are some amazing up-and-coming young players of color in the league like Auston Matthews (who will 98% probably win the Calder trophy for Rookie of the Year this year), Josh Ho-Sang, Seth Jones and Nazem Kadri, three of whom played in this year’s playoffs.

There’s a lot of hugging. I did not expect this much hugging.

Hockey players hug a lot. After someone scores it’s pretty much standard for there to be a big hugpile.

Champions League draw reaction Premier League clubs happy difficult for Spain’s big three

Alejandro Moreno and Ross Dyer rank Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool in terms of who got the hardest group draw in the UEFA Champions League.

The draw for the UEFA Champions League group stage took place in Monaco on Thursday and, as ever, threw up some intriguing story lines. Mark Ogden picks his highlights and makes some predictions.

English clubs get it easy

It is the luck of draw, but while the likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid got groups with heavyweight rivals, the Premier League’s quartet will all be happy with their outcomes.

Tottenham landed Bayern Munich, but will expect to overcome Olympiakos and Red Star Belgrade, while Liverpool and Manchester City will expect to coast through as group winners and Chelsea are favoured to take Group H. Another year, another Man City vs. Shakhtar clash

The two clubs were paired together in the group stage for the third successive season, so it might take an imaginative publicity campaign to tempt supporters to turn out for this fixture again. City’s executives will be happy to land yet another group lacking big-name glamour, but their fans might have wished for a bit more star quality.

Group F is the most difficult

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter were drawn together in Group F, alongside Slavia Prague, whose cheerful directors chuckled at the prospect of three huge games in the Czech capital. It will be different for the hierarchy at the other three, however, with concerns over missing a top-two spot due to the strength of competition.

Messi and Ronaldo get along

In recent years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have sat stony-faced with each other, as they wait to discover who has won the Player and Forward of the Year awards. This time around, the pair were laughing and joking — mainly at Eric Cantona’s speech — before the prizes were announced. Messi claimed best forward, but both missed out to Virgil van Dijk for the big one.

Having been given the UEFA President’s Award, convention dictated that Cantona give an acceptance speech. Dressed in jeans, creased shirt and flat cap, the former Manchester United forward made the most of his moment by quoting Shakespeare and discussing science and the ageing of cells, before closing by saying “I love football.” All of which left the audience utterly bewildered.

Matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League is on Sept. 17 and 18.

Group A: PSG and Real Madrid go through

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid meet in heavyweight clashes and while both will expect to progress to the Round of 16, the story of this group is likely to be about which team finishes top and earns a seeding in the knockout stages. Finishing second could lead to a nightmare draw against another Champions League big-hitter. Galatasaray and Club Brugge, meanwhile, will enjoy a tough battle for the Europa League spot that comes with third place.

B: Bayern Munich and Tottenham go through

Bayern and Tottenham will be favourites to qualify, but both must be wary of slipping up in hostile arenas when they travel to Athens and Belgrade for clashes with Olympiakos and Red Star. Red Star beat Liverpool 2-0 at home last season and are the dangerous outsider in this group; they could upset Spurs if last season’s runners-up fail to rediscover consistency. Olympiakos can be tough to beat at home, though they are something of a soft touch on the road.

C: Man City and Dinamo Zagreb go through

This group is basically a case of who will finish runners-up behind City, who are many observers’ favourites to win the Champions League. Shakhtar have the most recent pedigree in the competition, but Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta will believe they can reach the knockout stages. Champions League debutants Atalanta may suffer from losing home advantage by playing at the San Siro in Milan rather than their 21,000-capacity stadium in Bergamo.

D: Juventus and Leverkusen go through

Juventus and Atletico Madrid, who met in last season’s Round of 16, are the two to beat in this group, but Bayer Leverkusen could separate them. Juventus have strengthened in the summer, but questions hang over Atletico following the departures of Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Diego Godin. Diego Simeone remains at the helm and has signed Portuguese wonderkid Joao Felix, but Leverkusen will be a tough nut to crack; Lokomotiv Moscow could also challenge for second.

E: Liverpool and Napoli go through

Reigning European champions Liverpool meet Napoli again, having played out two big encounters in last season’s group stage. Salzburg and Genk look to be making up the numbers, so Liverpool’s encounters with Napoli should decide who tops the group. Only a last-minute save by Alisson at Anfield stopped Napoli dumping Liverpool out at the group stage a year ago, so the Italians will fancy their chances.

F: Barcelona and Inter go through

The most eye-catching group of all features three previous winners — Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter — slugging it out for two places. Barca will expect to finish top, but Dortmund could beat them. Inter, meanwhile, are still an unknown quantity under Antonio Conte, but the nerrazzuri have plenty of quality so don’t take your eyes off this group. Slavia Prague make up the numbers.

G: Lyon and Leipzig go through

Zenit St Petersburg’s Twitter feed joked prior to the draw that the Russian champions were the top seed that everyone wanted to get. Benfica, Lyon and Leipzig were the lucky clubs in each pot and while this group might lack glamour, it is perhaps the most competitive, with all four teams in with a chance of qualifying. Lyon made it to the knockout stages last season and will be favourites.

H: Chelsea and Valencia go through

Europa League winners Chelsea will be delighted to get an Ajax team weakened by the departures of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie De Jong, as well as a Valencia outfit that scraped in as Spain’s fourth qualifier and Lille, who finished a distant second to PSG in France. Chelsea, with Christian Pulisic signed to replace Eden Hazard, are in transition under Frank Lampard, but should top this group.

Why SM rarely disband their groups?

Because it makes absolutely no sense.

I don’t know why most “kpop-fans” have a problem to understand this, but each single member in a group has individually signed contracts to hire SM as their agency to help manage their individual celebrity careers as best possible. Many members won’t think of their groups as the final goal. They will think of their group as a stepping stone in launching their careers. As I expressed back when NCT was launched: I personally didn’t like it at all but it was obviously a very direct response to the extreme troubles SM had had with TVXQ and EXO members leaving. If your fave group isn’t doing many group activities, then it’s because (some of) the members don’t want to do group activities. However, that doesn’t mean that they’ll never ever want to do any group activities in the future. Just look at all these really old groups who have come back together for some group activities over the last years. And even if it’s unlikely that they’ll do group activities in the future, many of the members are probably still helped in their solo careers by association with the group. I mean, just look at SNSD. Even the 3 that left SM to get more appropriate agencies for their solo careers of choice always keep reiterating how “they’re still SNSD”. Does it mean they’ll actually do activities as SNSD in the future? Who knows.

And that Q&A kind of leads on to a whole bunch of other questions in my inbox:

You’re correct in that I don’t really care and up until today I assumed it was some project for a CF deal like in the past. But I guess it turned out much more interesting. It’s not really shocking or strange if you get what I wrote above, and they’re clearly doing this in cooperation with a big US label (and Capitol is part of UM which SM of course have worked with before). But really, at this point in time I’m at no position to have an opinion on either how popular these selected members are in the West or what the future holds for SHINee and EXO, so I don’t really have anything of value to say about this project.

Yes, it’s my very firm opinion that most idols are talentless idiots that don’t deserve to be paid. However, that doesn’t mean I think their companies deserve to make lots of money instead either. In a better world, stupid fangirls wouldn’t be as stupid. And I’m a bit upset about a whole lot of things that companies do:

First off they distort the media landscape entirely and make it extremely difficult for actual serious artists to break through (as I said before, many aspiring artists will have little choice but to actually take part in this shit-show).

Secondly, many of the companies are abusing any serious artists (or actors) they have by not helping them as individuals and refusing them to do solo activities, both in terms of making money from solo deals to capitalize on their current popularity and in terms of helping them build long terms careers.

Thirdly, many companies will very intentionally not inform big/popular (but new-ish) acts of the actual economics of the business and try to abuse them. They’ll make them constantly do things for free like v-live updates and they’ll make them go do a ton of events like fan-signs and hi-touch events etc “to win number 1 ranking” even though the member gets basically f*k all money while the company makes lots of money, and meanwhile they’ll keep insisting that members shouldn’t do solo activities that actually would give members lots of money.

Fourthly, they not just distort the media landscape, but they very intentionally feed public with an extremely incorrect view that all “celebrities” make a lot of money, which fuels the whole circle of how a million talentless idiots wants to become idols.

Heh. I used to get lots of comments like this 6 years ago… But the agenda of “SM idols being robots” was usually either pushed by JYJ’s or YG’s marketing team. So you must be something else and I presume someone’s been sharing posts I’ve made on some other platform to attract some new haters going crazy when told about reality. As I’ve clearly expressed before and as should be obvious from the above answers if you somehow didn’t know before: I don’t like SM. At all. But I despise all other kpop companies. Compared to other kpop companies SM is absolutely amazing. What other kpop company have actually (successfully) debuted more diverse trainees? What other kpop company actually let their celebrities speak as much and as freely (for example, tons of SM celebrities have hosted radio shows where they spend hours live on-air discussing all kinds of topics with other people)? And what other kpop companies are even doing half the effort SM do to actually help all of their celebrities to build solo careers?

I know that SM is losing money in its non-music business but how considerable is this loss for KB Asset Management to be so fussy lately? First they brought up the payment issue to LSM personal company which pretty much went nowhere. Then they asked for dividends to be paid out. Now they are onto closing business lines. It looks more and more like the media is reporting all these demands and portraying SM in a bad light for clicks. Does this circus happen every SM shareholders’ annual meeting?

Errrr, I’ve always pretty clearly said that some of these side businesses SM’s been doing seem like rather bad ideas (everything from hamburger bars to karaoke bars to COEX Artium and many of their investments into other companies too). So I clearly agree that some of the critique from SM shareholders is justified. At the same time though… I mean, I’ve clearly expressed my opinions about buying shares in these companies and that artists management agencies shouldn’t be publicly traded companies to start with. Korean media isn’t reporting on this for clicks - it’s simply that some stupid people are unhappy about finding out that they’ve made stupid decisions. But at least as long as JYP shares keep falling they’ll feel better knowing there are others who made more stupid decisions.

Now obviously 14 y/o girls will post all kinds of stupid posts on PANN and “journalists” will post “news” on allkpop but what they write has nothing to do with reality.

For all successful artists, music sales are basically irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if the artist just is a recording artists or a singer/songwriter and it doesn’t matter if it’s digital or physical sales. Music sales is not how top artist make the bulk of their money. However, as I’ve expressed before, for the type of artists that can still actually sell physical albums - that brings in much more money. (hold on I’ll edit in links to old posts). Edit: I guess the comments I wrote in this post about Billboard’s “top money makers 2014″ and the comments I wrote in this post about Spotify talk a bit about it. But remember the kpop groups typically have really low royalty rates on music sales.

Some seem also to have the ability to have concerts even though they don’t have die hard fans, but those rnb and pop singers doesn’t seem to be able to do the same even though they have die hard stans. Ehm, but it’s a lot about what I’ve always said about the difference about popularity of a song and popularity of a singer. Many of the songs that rank high on the digital charts aren’t actually liked because people like that specific singer and how he/she performs the song and would pay to go to their concerts. And that’s not only for Korea. That’s for all countries. As I’ve expressed clearly before I’m extremely disappointed in the American industry over the last 20 years.

Some of these Korean singers are indeed actually popular and can hold concerts while many others can’t.
