2nd mated female Euchomonella moluccarum laid her first ooth, it may look small compared to other species but it was quite big to the other females ooth.

On March 2nd (when this photo was taken), I have begun volunteering at the Massey University Reptile Facility, more specifically, for the captive breed-for-release programme facility for Duvaucel’s geckos (Hoplodactylus duvaucelii), New Zealand's largest gecko. These geckos once widespread on the New Zealand mainland, until the introduction of mammalian predators decimated them to where they are now present on a few islands offshore. My first day involved me gathering branches of native trees for their enclosures. However, I can even eventually do tasks like measuring and even going as far as taking part in their release into a sanctuary. Extremely exciting and inspiring news coming out of Durrell’s Jersey Zoo! For the first time they have successfully bred a critically endangered Javan green magpie chick! With only around 100 left in the wild this is a huge step forward for the species. | Repost @durrell_jerseyzoo | We're delighted to announce that the Bird Department at Jersey Zoo (Durrell HQ) has successfully bred their first Javan green magpie chick and we would like our supporters to help us name him! The keepers have chosen several potential names, but it's now up to you to decide... 1. Salamat – a national park in Java where Javan green magpies are found 2. Musim – 'monsoon' in Javanese 3. Hijau – an Indonesian adjective, which describes the colour ‘emerald green’ 4. Gilang – Malay for ‘bright, glittering, splendid’ 5. Eko – ‘first’ in Javanese 6. Satu – Indonesian for ‘one’, with the hope that there will be ‘two’, ‘three’ etc in the future! 7. Indra – god of seas and skies Vote for your favourite name by leaving a comment below. Reduction of 2018 budget for the U.S. Geological Survey has resulted in closure of the Whooping Crane captive breeding program at Patuxent Research Refuge (Laurel, MD). This is a sample of the mini- crustacean culture we have been growing. It includes two species of water flea and a freshwater copepod. We first had to culture unicellular algae and yeast upon which the tiny crustaceans feed. These little creatures will feed the larval axolotl we recently bred. Costumes play many different roles in the work we do. While the birds are being raised in conservation breeding facilities, the person taking care of them will wear a costume and feed them using a puppet that looks like an adult ʻAlalā. These steps help to reduce the risk of the birds imprinting on humans, or thinking that humans are their parents. Costumes are also worn when taking care of the released ʻAlalā. This is to help reduce the risk of ʻAlalā becoming habituated, or too comfortable around humans, and associating humans with food. Lastly, we use costumes to help with educating people of all ages about ʻAlalā at public events and in the classrooms we visit. This is a particularly beautiful species of centrolenid - the Granular Glass Frog, Cochranella granulosa. Glass frogs are transparent on their ventral surface, but their dorsal coloration can be quite beautiful. C. granulosa often has shades of blue mixed with green on their dorsum.
