Francesca is of Italian descent and was raised in London England by her mother Stella and grandfather Michael De Luca. Her London stage debut formally began playing the lead in Romeo and Juliet. While touring in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in which she played Titania, Francesca was approached to audition for the upcoming movie Orpheus and Eurydice. She was cast as the sorceress Agleoniki where she starred alongside legendary actor Oliver Reed, filming in Athens, Greece.

Francesca continued to work in leading roles such as Lady Macbeth with great directors such as Peter Greenaway in his abstract production of Macbeth and Graham Fletcher-Cook in the play Out of His Tree. In addition, she starred in plays such as The Legend of Bella Rosa, Intimacy written by Jean-Paul Sartre, As You Like It, Carla in Kennedy’s Children, the premiere of Red Lanterns directed by Sir Timothy Ackroyd. She acted in several British feature films including Heckle and after moving to Los Angeles was cast in a feature that premiered at Tribeca. A callback for a Francis Ford Coppola movie prevented Francesca from attending her premiere! However, to her delight she was cast in Coppola’s new Live cinema production, Distant Vision. Continuing to act in Los Angeles she played many leads such as in the film festival darling, Passports and in the comedy Down and Out alongside A.B. Farrelly.

Recently she starred in the psychological thriller Storage which premiered at the 2022 Academy Qualifying, LA Shorts Film Festival. Storage has gone on to win the Grand Prize at the Silicon Beach Film Festival as well as numerous other festivals. For her role in Storage, Francesca took home the award of Best Ensemble Cast at the Seattle Film Festival and Idyllwild Film Festival. Francesca starts off 2024 with a Green card and can now work for the major US Film and TV Studios, not just the independents! She has already been cast in three films set for production in 2024!

La ficción sonora, más cerca que nunca

Spotify nos trae un podcast de género thriller que te mantendrá en vilo hasta su desenlace

El sonido del crimen es un thriller policial, original de Spotify, escrito por María Mínguez, que consta de 6 capítulos de unos 15-20 minutos de duración. A través de cada episodio podemos ir descubriendo todo lo que se oculta detrás de la desaparición de Carla Serrano, apoyado en los audios que ella mandó o las llamadas telefónicas que realizan los sospechosos.

Olivia Menes, jefa de voz del laboratorio de acústica forense de la policía, y Lucas Bonachera, nuevo técnico de sonido del laboratorio, son los encargados de analizar cada prueba auditiva para determinar si es real o falsa, dónde fue grabado, si las palabras escuchadas o los ruidos de fondo esconden algo más, …

La propia Olivia nos explica qué es lo que hacen concretamente: analizar el sonido del crimen. Cuenta que hay casos que no pueden resolverse por lo que se ve, sino por lo que se oye. Buscan un ruido, una palabra, una pausa, algo que les ayude a resolver el crimen.

En este primer episodio escuchamos dos voces protagonistas: las de ambos analistas y otras tres voces que aparecen en algunos momentos: la de la propia Carla, a través de los audios que analizan; la del marido de Olivia, por una llamada de teléfono; y, por el mismo canal, la de la inspectora al cargo del caso: Diana Cuevas.

Nada más comenzar, escuchamos música instrumental mezclada con el audio de la desaparecida en bucle, que va subiendo el volumen, a modo entradilla, que, de hecho, es una pieza que se puede escuchar en el tráiler también. Igualmente, encontramos el uso de música extradiegética, instrumental en este caso, que acompaña al diálogo de los personajes; y, además, se pueden oír diferentes efectos de sonido como el chirriar de una silla, las teclas de un ordenador al pulsarse, una máquina de café, pasos caminando, …

Una cosa interesante de este primer episodio es que introduce y explica unos conceptos sobre el sonido y el trabajo del laboratorio que te ayudan a entender el análisis que tienen que realizar: voz dubitada, cuando se duda de que la voz que se escucha en un audio corresponda con esa persona; voz indubitada, cuando no hay dilema sobre que esa voz sea real; y segundo plano sonoro, que se refiere al ruido de fondo de los audios.

Cuando pasan los 5 minutos del episodio, se interrumpe el mismo para dar paso a un corte de publicidad, en este caso, del podcast Caso 63, cosa que no ocurre en podcast escuchados en otras plataformas, como Youtube, o en podcast de otras temáticas, como, por ejemplo, informativos.

Por otro lado, al finalizar el programa, el último minuto está dedicado única y exclusivamente a la despedida y los créditos. Se menciona la plataforma de Spotify y a la productora Pódium Studios, aparte de apuntar el nombre de cada actor, productores ejecutivos, escritora, diseño sonoro, grabaciones, …

En definitiva, es una forma diferente de consumir ficción pero que, sin ninguna duda, es súper recomendable porque también descubre la importancia de cuidar un producto, de poner en valor lo que quieres contar y cómo vas a hacerlo. Para mí, ha sido todo un descubrimiento cómo de bien se puede usar el sonido hasta el punto de contar una historia o un thriller tan bueno como este.

Said event was curated by Diego Cortés, Carla Melo Gampert and Andrea Muñoz Álvarez, organized by Porosa Animación and held at the Cinemateca de Bogotá. Through the screenings, Porosa Animación saught to show animated films from Latin America which, in the words of the organization, "push and question the limits of animation and which propose alternative points of view through the film medium".
