TEAM PAST WON!!!! IM SO HAPPY!!!! WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT SPLATOON 4????? I HOPE IT DOESNT TAKE PLACE IN THE PAST, AS THAT WOULD BE A MAJOR DEPARTURE FOR THE SERIES, BUT I DOUBT THEY WOULD DECIDE TO NOT DO ANYTHING NEW FOR SPLATOON 4!! THEYLL PROBABLY MAKE IT TAKE PLACE FAR AWAY FROM INKADIA, AND BE A SOFT REBOOT FOR THE SERIES!! WHERE TO THOUGH?? MAYBE OFFBRAND INDIA OR OFFBRAND BRAZIL?? THOSE ARE FRYE AND BIG MANS RESPECTIVE CULTURES!! IM SORTA HOPING FOR BRAZIL!! ITS PERFECT FOR SPLATFESTS INSPIRED BY CARNIVAL!! MAYBE THEYLL TAKE INSPIRATION FROM BOTH THOUGH?? I HOPE THEY DO!! IMAGINE WHAT THEY COULD DO WITH SPLATFESTS INSPIRED BY HOLI!!! ITS SO PERFECT!!! :DDD

People from Solsona (Central Catalonia) celebrating Carnival.
In this city, one of the main traditions for the Carnival festivity is the silly version of giants and "big-heads". In other Catalan festivities like festa major and Corpus, there are elegant giants and silly "big-head" figures that dance on the streets. Following the spirit of Carnival, which is to make fun of everything, the giants and "big-heads" that dance for Carnival are made to be caricaturesque.

I wanted to share my city's winter festival. They have ice sculptures from around the world, art installations, and drag (!) What with all the hate these days it really did make me feel proud of how far my country has come.

Photos: burial of the sardine in Granollers (Barcelona Metropolitan Ambit, Catalonia). From granollers.cat.
Today is the Burial of the Sardine, the last day of the Carnival week that marks the beginning of Lent.
King Carnestoltes (the king of Carnival) dies of partying so much and is carried around town by a funeral procession. The procession can be a bit different from town to town, but generally involves the following. A marching band plays the funeral march while people gather to fake-cry loudly in an exaggerated manner. Then, the king Carnestoltes gives his final speech, as always full of humour and impudent references. Then, he dies, officially signaling the end of Carnival and the beginning of Lent. In lots of towns, there is one last Carnival communal meal, with sardines or coques.
In some places, the king of Carnival is sent to a trial where he is judged for all the misbehaving that the inhabitants did during his rule, and then is sentenced. In other places, a woman dressed as Vella Quaresma ("Old Lady Lent", the personification of Lent in Catalan culture) takes his place as ruler for the next period.
