WHO WERE THE RESSURECTIONISTS?

MUNGO DALRYMPLE (1790-1829)

Perhaps one of the most notorious names asociated with The Ressurectionists was Mungo Dalrymple (1790-1829), an Edimburgh doctor who hanged himself in disgrace when it became public knowledge that he was buying cadavers from body snatchers, for his medical students to dissect.

Born in Carsphairn, Dalrymple had a meteoric rise to fame in the Scottish medical establisment when he became one of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh's youngest ever members at the age of 22. Dalrymple was passionate about the study of anatomy, giving many well received papers on the subject.

He was prine however to making enemies and earned a reputation for mercilessly skewering pomposity wherever he found it. This did not endear him to the senior doctors and surgeons of the Edinburgh medical establishment and Darlymple ruffed many feathers and as aresult had few allies when the bodysnatching scandal eventual broke.

FUN FACT Up until the 19th century, barbers carried out many surgical procedures in their shops!

Darlymple's downfall came when one of his suppliers, commonly known as 'Ressurection men', was suspected of murdering several of his lodgers in order to supply the doctor with a steady stream of cadavers. Eagle eyed landladies, Mrs Cat Clarke and Mrs Caro Clarke bravely confronted the murdere when he was attempting to conceal the body of his last victim in a barrel of pickled herring, and raised the hue and cry.

Theo caminha sorrateiramente até Jacob e sussurra para o amigo. - Jacob, o que é que está acontecendo aqui? - Mas percebe que o mesmo desconhecimento habita os olhos do outro. Antes que pudesse organizar seus pensamentos, um homem até então desconhecido entra no vestiário, sua presença imponente preenchendo o espaço com uma autoridade imediata. "Esse foi um discurso bonito, Edward, mas eu assumo daqui." Imediatamente o vestiário inteiro fica em pavorosa com o reconhecimento de quem estava ali. Theo buscou imediatamente pelo olhar de Edward, mas o homem tinha os olhos fixos no chão, uma expressão de derrota em suas feições. "Sou Simon Towley e pelas caras de espanto vou presumir que sabem exatamente quem eu sou, o que não sabem é que deste momento em diante serei o novo treinador de vocês." Mais expressões de espanto pelo vestiário quando Simon se apresenta como o novo treinador, lançando um arrepio de choque e perplexidade entre os presentes. - Desculpe, mas isso é algum tipo de brincadeira? - Theo questionou perplexo, interrompendo o homem mais velho. - Você não é o nosso treinador, você é o treinador dos Trojans, o senhor Edward é o nosso treinador. Simon olhou Theodore de cima a baixo. "Desculpe, mas você é?" Theo o encarou com o queixo erguido. - Sou Theodore Clarke, Quarterback deste time. - Respondeu imediatamente, cruzando os braços diante da clara tentativa de intimidação do homem. "O Quarterback, muito bem, está é uma ótima observação senhor Clarke, significa que não é o acéfalo que imaginei que era quando pus os olhos no senhor." Disse o mais velho sem o maior pudor. "Sim, eu era o treinador dos Trojans, mas por grandes reviravoltas da vida, aqui estou..." E continuou, desta vez falando a todos os jogadores. "Meus caros atletas, hoje é um dia de mudança. Um dia em que devemos olhar para o futuro com olhos despidos de ilusões e enfrentar a realidade de frente. Como seu novo treinador, é meu dever anunciar que grandes transformações estão a caminho para este time.

Não se enganem, o caminho para a grandeza não será fácil. Não será um passeio no parque. Mas é a partir dos desafios que nos tornamos mais fortes. E é por isso que a partir de agora, todos vocês serão submetidos a testes rigorosos. Testes para suas posições. Testes para sua relevância neste time.

Deixe-me ser claro: ninguém está a salvo. Não importa seu histórico ou seu status neste time até agora. Todos estarão sujeitos à avaliação. Pois a grandeza não conhece complacência. Não conhece favores. A grandeza é conquistada com suor, sacrifício e determinação.

O discurso do novo treinador era uma mistura de promessas e desafios, suas palavras estavam carregadas de determinação e rigor. Ele tinha acabado de anunciar uma reviravolta radical, declarando que todos os jogadores teriam que passar por testes para manterem seus postos no time. O quarterback e seus colegas são pegos de surpresa pela magnitude da mudança imposta, a notícia ecoando como um trovão no silêncio tenso do vestiário. O que antes era familiar e estável agora se torna um terreno desconhecido. Theodore tinha a mais absoluta certeza de que aquilo não fazia parte da linha do tempo original, alguma coisa estava imensamente errada e um novo capítulo que se abre diante dele, repleto de desafios e incertezas estava prestes a começar.

In Ascension, ou a hard science fiction a chegar ao mainstream

Que vários autores de literatura dita mainstream se têm dedicado a explorar territórios temáticos e conceptuais da tradição da ficção científica não será novidade nem para os leitores mais distraídos - ou não tivessem sido as distopias tão populares nos últimos anos, ou não estivesse a dita climate fiction tão na moda hoje em dia - e a breve trecho será a inteligência artificial, tema tão caro ao género (fundacional, até, se recuarmos até Shelley e ao inevitável Frankenstein), e hoje em dia tão batido nos noticiários e nas redes sociais por causa dos avanços em large language models e machine learning (e sim, ainda estamos longe do Wintermute ou do Puppet Master). Ian McEwan, aliás, terá talvez dado o tiro de partida dessa tendência antes do tempo, em 2019, com Machines Like Me. O que será talvez mais invulgar será ver o mainstream literário a pegar na ficção científica dita "dura", a célebre hard science fiction da tradição de Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, e tantos outros escritores da "era dourada" do género, entre os anos 40 e 60 do século passado.

Mas foi exactamente isso que Martin MacInnes fez neste ano com o surpreendente In Ascension.

Sim, In Ascension pode ser considerado hard science fiction. Se formos às definições possíveis do conceito, encontramos ideias como "ficção científica caracterizada por uma preocupação com o rigor científico", em histórias que devem tentar ser "precisas, lógicas, credíveis e rigorosas na sua utilização do conhecimento científico e técnico" para que "as suas tecnologias, os seus fenómenos, os seus cenários e as suas situações sejam possíveis, na prática ou em teoria" (cito da Wikipedia, que tem excelentes notas bibliográficas sobre o tema - partindo do princípio de que alguém aqui terá acesso à The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction do John Clute e do Peter Nicholls ((quem me dera)). Não por acaso, diria que a plausibilidade científica parece ser uma das principais preocupações de MacInnes: da expedição submarina às profundezas do Oceano Atlântico na primeira parte do livro até à longa expedição aos limites do Sistema Solar nos últimos capítulos - sem esquecer toda a preparação científica intermédia, claro -, tudo é narrado e explicado de forma metódica e rigorosa, com extrapolações cuidadas e sempre bem fundamentadas. Certo: podemos argumentar que o método de propulsão da nave não é explicado, mas essa ausência de explicação é uma peça fundamental do puzzle narrativo que o MacInnes vai montando.

O MacGuffin desse puzzle, um objecto que se suspeita ser de origem extra-solar, até poderia convidar a comparações a alguns clássicos da hard science fiction, como 2001: A Space Odyssey ou Rendezvous With Rama, ambos de Arthur C. Clarke. Mas tais comparações estariam limitadas a semelhanças muito rudimentares, sobretudo pelo ponto de vista. Clarke, com todos os seus méritos, não era um escritor de personagens, pelo que nenhuma das personagens de Rama é memorável (juro: adorei o livro quando o li, continuo a recordá-lo como um feito prodigioso de suspensão da descrença e de sense of wonder, mas não me consigo lembrar de uma única personagem); o que, de certa forma, acaba por dar alguma frieza e alguma distância às ideias e aos conceitos fascinantes que explora. Mas MacInnes não parece querer contar esse tipo de história - In Ascencion, com toda a sua imensa ambição conceptual, nunca deixa de ser também uma história muito pessoal da sua protagonista, Leigh.

Estes dois pólos - o conceptual e o pessoal, as ideias e as personagens - não são, ou não têm de ser, opostos. Bem pelo contário: boas personagens (no sentido de bem escritas; é ler Blindsight ou Echopraxia do Peter Watts para se perceber como a ficção científica mais dura pode ter narradores tão imperfeitos e tão fascinantes) ancoram as ideias mais interessantes e arrojadas, dão-lhe uma escala mais próxima da nossa, conferem-lhe um ponto de vista mais particular. A Leigh de MacInnes é um excelente exemplo: com uma infância conturbada e traumática que sublimou pela curiosidade, tornou-se cientista (mais um elemento de hard science fiction) e viu-se envolvida num projecto científico - ou, em rigor, numa sequência de projectos científicos - que começa no fundo do mar ao largo das Caraíbas e avança para lá da heliopausa. É através do seu olhar, sempre marcado pelo seu passado mas invariavelmente cheio de curiosidade, que vemos a trama a desenrolar-se, que acompanhamos as descobertas científicas que ela e outras personagens fazem, e que nos interrogamos sobre as questões que o autor coloca sobre as origens da vida. MacInnes não tenta fazer de Leigh uma heroína; vemos nela uma curiosidade insaciável e capacidades físicas e intelectuais evidentes, mas também lhe reconhecemos os seus muitos defeitos - um carácter mais frio, mais defensivo, de difícil entendimento com quem lhe está próximo. Um ser humano pleno de contradições, se quisermos.

O autor desenvolve Leigh de forma exemplar, como vai desenvolvendo In Ascension com mestria, deixando sempre alguma coisa por revelar à medida que avança e sobe a fasquia. A escrita, essa, é magnífica - é possível encontrar beleza nas descrições mais longas e mais técnicas que faz do trabalho científico de Leigh (uma tarefa dificílima, como qualquer leitor de ficção científica bem sabe - a fronteira entre descrição e infodump é difusa), mas é nas observações mais subjectivas pelos olhos da sua protagonista que a prosa de MacInnes se transcende. In Ascension é não só um livro fascinante pelas ideias que explora e pela protagonista que introduz; é, também, um livro muitíssimo bem escrito, cheio de imagens de uma beleza extraordinária, que dá vontade de reler ainda durante a primeira leitura.

Há uma "supresa", digamos assim, no último capítulo - uma opção narrativa curiosa, para não dizer mesmo atrevida, que na altura me fez alinhar alguns pensamentos sobre qual seria o seu propósito. E, admito, me fez recear que o desenlace do livro pudesse não estar à altura da premissa e da execução até ali. Mas com um breve epílogo o autor demonstra não só que essa opção faz todo o sentido, como também introduz um elemento novo, nas últimas dez páginas (literalmente), que dá todo um novo fôlego às restantes 486. O que, convenhamos, não é para todos - é preciso um controlo tremendo sobre a história que se está a contar para fazer algo assim e ser bem sucedido. Com que um número de equilibrismo no arame, sem rede. E Martin MacInnes enfrenta-o e supera-o com distinção.

15. recommend and review a book

ok ok gonna do my fave nonfiction i've read recently and some of you have been unlucky enough to hear me talk about it but it's the power broker by robert caro, it's a 1,200+ page brick of a nonfiction book published in the 1970's as a biography of robert moses and just new york city infrastructure in general. i read a lot of nonfiction and honestly a lot of the writing is just bad even if the content is interesting but this was seriously one of the most well-written pieces of work i've ever read and it completely changed the way i think about local government. some fun excerpts and all my notes:

granted, part of the fun was i read it with my dad and we had a lot of fun bonding over it, but still! it's been such a cool foundation for other works on urban studies, too - i recently finished davarian l baldwin's in the shadow of the ivory tower: how universities are plundering our cities and there was a whole chapter on new york that i felt really well-equipped to engage with

ok not to be one of those ppl that are like teehee i hated it before it was problematic but genuinely i never got the hype about harry potter. i think the problem is i read them out obscenely out of order and probably just a little too young (i started with the order of the phoenix when i was 10) but nevertheless i've just never cared. more recently i read the midnight library and i was so unimpressed i was this could've just been a supernatural episode we didn't have to do all this

Aunque Clark intenta ser el hombre de acero que el mundo espera que sea, su nerviosismo a veces provocaba cierta inferioridad consigo mismo. Él es feliz con lo que tiene, su familia, sus amigos, y su pareja. Pero es inevitable sentir que está fuera de lugar en la vida de Lex.

—¿Crees que le agrade a tus amigos?—Pregunta Clark mientras está en el asiento de copiloto en el asiento del auto lujoso de Lex.

—No son mis amigos, son socios con los que hago negocios.

—Pues ellos dijeron que son tus amigos.

—Soy su amigo cuando necesitan mi dinero—Bromea Lex provocando que Clark suelte una risa.

Por fin llegan a la mansión de Lex, así que este detiene el auto, permanecen en silencio unos minutos, Clark conoce tan bien a Lex que sabe cuando está a punto de decir algo.

—Clark, en verdad adoro tu humildad pero tampoco hay que confundirla con baja seguridad, te amo, en serio te amo bastante y no quiero que pienses que no mereces lujos, no los necesitas pero es mi forma de demostrarte mi afecto.

Lex extiende su mano y toma la mano de Clark, entrelazando sus dedos. Clark siente las palabras atoradas en su pecho esperando salir; pero en lugar de eso decide actuar.

Se inclina a tomar el rostro de Lex entre sus manos, y sonríe; no es un gesto que indique un “no intentes hacerme sentir mejor” sino uno que expresa “gracias”.

Clark besa a Lex, lo hace con delicadeza, pero sobre todo con ternura, cerrando sus ojos y saboreando aquellos labios delgados. La cercanía hace que Clark pueda oler la fragancia exquisita de Lex, es embriagador y tienta a explorar su piel.

—Si, he dudado varias veces pero este no es el caso, he tenido esta sensación desde hace unos meses, pero estoy completamente seguro, quiero estar a tu lado.

—Ya estas a mi lado—Lex toma ambas manos del pelinegro—Sin embargo, estoy de acuerdo en que deberíamos casarnos.

—¿Eso es un si?

—Es un por supuesto.

De nuevo las palabras no son suficientes para Clark, así que se inclina y una vez más saborea sus labios, aunque esta vez no hay tanta delicadeza, sino una ardiente pasión.

—Lex, me has hecho el hombre más feliz de la tierra—Susurra Clark antes de volverlo a besar.

Lex quería decirle que él siente lo mismo, pero ambos son de acciones más que de palabras, por suerte, un punto y aparte ha resurgido en su relación, así que tienen una nueva vida para demostrarlo.

Summary:

Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural. The series will return Marci Harrison who portrays the lead detective in charge of a group of junior detectives (Reggie Peters, Alex Mercer, Kayla Caro), forensic scientists (Luke Patterson and Julie Molina), and a rookie detective (Flynn Rider). 

Julie Molina is enjoying her time on Phantoms, the supernatural detective show. It had been her saving grace after being blacklisted from basically everywhere following her media feud with former Disney Channel costar Carrie Wilson that tanked her music career before it even started.

But with rumors that the show isn’t going to get a third season, Julie is worried about her career completely ending with no jobs or recording contracts in sight.

Add in the fact that even if they get a third season, Julie’s costar might leave the show and go off to pursue his music career.

And Julie is trying to understand why said costar potentially leaving is making her so upset.

Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural, the characters teasingly referring to themselves as ghost hunters. The series will return Marci Harrison who portrays the lead detective in charge of a group of junior detectives (Reggie Peters, Alex Mercer, Kayla Caro), forensic scientists (Luke Patterson and Julie Molina), and a rookie detective (Flynn Rider).

Marci Harrison, 46, affectionally called Mrs. Harrison by her costars, is definitely the most veteran member of the cast, previously starring in two other shows for the Network, playing a teacher on the hit ten-season show Recess, and is recently coming off of a four-season show starring as the mother on Home with the Houses. Mrs. Harrison plays Captain Hopkins, the serious no-nonsense lead detective constantly dealing with the antics of her younger and less experienced detectives.

Flynn Rider, 22, plays detective Fiona, the fun and wild rookie whose first day on the job opened up the series. Rider previously played the youngest daughter in the Freeform show, Life with the Clarks, for eight seasons, spending almost her entire teens growing up on the show. She also has been announced as part of the cast for the new superhero movie coming next Spring. Rider was moved up to second billing behind Harrison for the second season, the showrunners stating that it was always the plan and that the show will spend time following her storyline.

Alex Mercer, 24, and Reggie Peters, 24, play detectives Allan and Rick respectively. The two play the buddies on the show, with Peters playing the more chaotic and jokester of the two and Mercer playing the more levelheaded one, although his character still gets roped into all of the antics. Mercer previously starred on a handful of Nickelodeon shows while Peters has spent a lot of time doing voice work and only a few camera jobs.

Kayla Caro, 24, plays the strong detective Kristen, who has the most experience of the detectives besides their captain and spends a lot of time putting the guys in their place and kicking ass. Caro spent many years in the industry, modeling and doing many commercials. She is most known for her dancing, specifically as a troupe dancer on Dancing with the Stars for two seasons. She also starred as the love interest in the superhero-themed Disney Original Movie, Super Senior.

Julie Molina, 22, and Luke Patterson, 24, might be last on the cast list, but the two have been slowly gaining a small but mighty following for their portrayal of science duo Dr. Jane Ortega and Logan Guise. The two characters take care of the forensic side of the show, playing the inseparable best friends and partners who might be a little nerdy and cannot always understand the social cues of their fellow team members. Molina is best known for her lead role on the Disney Channel show Dirty Candies but is known even more for the very public feud with her costars Carrie Wilson and Nick Danforth-Evans. Patterson has probably the most extensive resume out of all of the younger cast, even rivaling Harrison. Patterson has worked since he was a small child, starring in many movies, tv shows, and commercials since. Patterson has also been announced as the lead for Frank Wolfe’s new film about a struggling indie rockstar. Molina and Patterson had previously worked together on the  Disney Channel's Original Movie Meddling, playing the older siblings of the two main characters that they try to get together.

After barely getting picked up for season two, showrunner and executive producer Caleb Covington says that he plans on making the second season more impactful, with more character development, more spooky (and a little wacky) storylines, and scenes to really show off the talented casts acting chops.

Day 11 of 30 days of creativity!

Today I did some work on a zine I'm planning.

Nothing I worked on made for a good image to share, so here's an image of my favorite version of The Hermit card, which is vaguely related to this zine. This is from the main deck I use these days, Tarot by Caro, by Caro Clarke.

A plan to cover a river's front with docks, parks and tracks in 1911 would not be realized until the 1930s

We present a bird's eye view showing the salient features of this proposed West Side improvement. At an average distance of 200 feet out from the present shore line, a riprap wall will be built, and the intervening space filled in with suitable material.

Adjacent to the present tracks of the New York Central Railroad, space will be reserved for two additional tracks, to be built by the company when the increased traffic of the future calls for them.

Then, in, their turn, will be constructed three municipal freight tracks, a broad loading and unloading platform, a driveway for vehicles, a wide platform for receiving river and ocean freight, and, finally, along the dock front will be a pair of tracks for the use of freight unloaded from or to be delivered to steamships. The whole of this area, up to the edge of the steamship loading and unloading platform, will be covered by a massive steel and concrete roof, and upon this will be laid a covering of earth of sufficient depth to meet the requirements of a park, and support a growth of turf, shrubbery and trees.

The park, as thus formed, will be laid out with walks and windings paths to conform to the pathways existing on the slopes of Riverside Park. Large openings will be provided at intervals for lighting and ventilating the covered-in tracks and roadways, and in that portion of the new park which is opposite Columbia College a stadium will be laid out for the use of the university.

It is the expectation of the commissioners that practically all of the rock required for the riprap, and one-sixth of the earth necessary for filling purposes, will be obtained from the excavations of the proposed Lexington Avenue-Broadway subway.

The remaining material, about one million cubic yards, can be obtained from selected materials, such as clean ashes, of the street cleaning department, and from the various excavations for buildings in the district bordering on the proposed work.

It wasn't until the 30's that the West Side improvement really took off, driven by "the man who got things done," Robert Moses.

Moses's biographer Robert Caro described Moses surveying the area prior to his project, and seeing a wasteland six miles long, stretching from where he stood all the way north to 181st street. "The 'park' was nothing but a vast low-lying mass of dirt and mud. Unpainted, rusting, jagged wire fences along the tracks barred the city from its waterfront.

"The engines that pulled trains along the tracks burned coal or oil; from their smokestacks a dense black smog rose toward the apartment houses, coating windowsills with grit. A stench seemed to hang over Riverside Drive endlessly after each passage of a train carrying south to the slaughterhouses in downtown Manhattan carload after carload of cattle and pigs."

Once, Frances Perkins heard Moses exclaim, "Isn't this a temptation to you? Couldn't this waterfront be the most beautiful thing in the world?"

Moses's updated "West Side Improvement" plan, designed by Gilmore D. Clarke, Michael Rapuano, and Clinton Loyd, retained the railroad tunnel under the park, but moved the parkway to the shorefront instead; this would become the Henry Hudson Parkway.

As part of the project, the parkway was to connect with the West Side Elevated Highway at the south end of Riverside Park, while the railroad would connect to the High Line viaduct even further south. The parkway was to be built on newly filled land along the shore, requiring the extension of the shoreline by 50 feet and the dumping of 1 million cubic yards of fill. This resulted in a more contiguous park area, since the roof of the tunnel would then be occupied by parkland.

Moses's plan was also more actively focused toward recreation: his plan called for playgrounds, tennis courts, wading and swimming pools, an amphitheater, and docks at 79th and 96th Streets. The roof of the railroad tunnel would host several of these recreation fields, while other parts of the tunnel's roof would be used by a promenade. The cost as submitted to the New York City Board of Estimate was $11 million (equivalent to $215 million in 2021), of which $6 million would go toward the railroad tunnel alone (equivalent to $117 million in 2021).

By mid-1934, Moses was ready to employ about 4,000 workers through the Works Progress Administration. Filling operations were underway by early 1935, requiring the dumping of 4,000 cubic yards of dirt per day.

The parkway in Riverside Park was approved in June 1935, and was completed in 1937. In addition, plans for a new boat basin at 149th Street were announced in 1939. The West Side Improvement project was completed by 1941. The project was twice as big as the Hoover Dam's construction. In total, the project plan added 132 acres to the park. Ultimately eight full playgrounds were built, as well as baseball fields and tennis, handball, and basketball courts. Anche l'America è stanca del principe Harry e Meghan Clarke

E' ufficiale anche in America si stanno stancando della premiata ditta Harry e Meghan. Vero che il 6 dicembre a New York, la coppia sarà insignita del premio Ripple of Hope, riconoscimento che in memoria di Robert Kennedy viene attribuito ogni anno a personalità che si sono distinte per la loro attività umanitaria, filantropica e in difesa dei diritti. Ma appena è trapelata la notizia , la levata di scudi contro i due ex royal è stata quasi unanime.

Gli USA sono stanchi di Meghan Clarke e Harry principe di Inghilterra?

Del resto i nomi dei precedenti vincitori vanno da Barack Obama , all'arcivescovo sudafricano oppositore dell'Apartheid Desmond Tuttu. Il professore David Nasaw , celebrato biografo di Robert Kennedy, si è fatto portavoce dell'indignazione genenrale "E' un qualcosa che definirei tra l'immensamente ridicolo e lo spudoratamente grottesco. Assurdo!" Ha dichiarato Nasaw "A ricevere lo stesso premio in passato sono stati Bille Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi , Desmond Tutu. Ma che ci fanno Hatty e Meghan tra questi? Cosa hanno fatto di concreto per meritarsele? E a quanto ammonta la percentuale della loro ricchezza distribuita a cause meritevoli? si è chiesto sconcertato Ha tentato di difenderli Kerry Kennedy figliò di Robert, i Sussex verrebbero secondo lei premiati "per i loro impegno nel cercare di cambiare la narrativa sulla salute mentale" , ma gli stoici americani non si lasciano convivere. Non basta parlare di questi temi in interviste varie, peraltro ben prezzolati, per potere essere considerati paladini della causa. Intanto è imminente l'uscita della Biografia di Harry, Spare - Il minore, il 10 gennaio prossimo in tutte le librerie, un titolo che è già tutto un programma e che sicuramente disegna l'intento di racconarsi come reietto rispetto la fratello maggiore William. Il libro per paradosso potrebbe definitivamente affossare porprio l'immagine di Harry, che ancora una volta apparirebbe come dedito all'auto commiserazione e al racnore, quasi avesse scoperto solo adesso che in una fagmilia reale è il primogenito a diventare re, oneri e onori. Già durante i funerali della regina Elisabetta, Meghan Marckle, attrice consumata si asciugava un pò troppo teatralmente una lacrima che sembrava disegnata con l'illuminante per il viso. Lei e Harry erano in seconda fila, ormai un mondo a parte da quando era nata la loor decisione di abbandonare il Regno Unito e i compiti della "Dita" per andare a vivere in America. Sarebbe bastato questo gesto per amareggiare gli inglesi ma la coppia vera premuto sull'accelleratore e Mechian poco dopo rilasciava la famosa intervista alla star della televisione Oprah Winfrey, colpa di accuse e recriminazioni verso tutta la famiglia reale, adombrando accuse di razzismo nei suoi confronti Il principe William rifiuta l'etichetta di famiglia razzista "Non siamo una famiglia razzista" rispose durissimo William ad alcuni giornalisti che lo interrogano in proposito ed è stata rottura. Mentre l'erede al trono e la moglie Kayte, impeccabili si stringevano intorno alla nonna e la famigliola, George Charlotte e Louis compresi , diventava la roccia di Elisabetta, la certezza di solidità e continuità, Harry e Meghan giocavano a fare i paladini dei diritti umani senza chiare competenze specifiche, alternando volontà di distaccarsi dal passato e consapevolezza che proprio quel passato era la fonte principale dei loro redditi, vedi la decisione di chiamare la secondogenita con il soprannome della regina Elisabeth Lilibeth scelta che la stessa pare non avesse affatto gradito. Quel nomignolo le era caro perchè privato, personale e tale avrebbe voluto restasse così lo chiamavano solo i genitori e il martito Filippo. Intanto molti ricordavano le parole del padre di Meghan poco prima delle nozze con Harry " Per lei gli uomini sono gradini verso la fama,. Tradiva l'ex marito Trevor Engleson di nascosto.
