Currently watching: i took a break from kdramas bc i became very anxious about. life in general and everything has become really frustrating so a friend suggested watching this anime called life lessons with uramichi oniisan and it's just. really funny but in a dark, twisted, existential crisis kinda way and it's exactly what i needed rn

Currently reading (thanks for the suggestion Jo!): i'm always reading like 20 books at once so the ones i can remember off the top of my head are: sea of monsters (pjo book 2 by rick riordan), jane eyre by charlotte bronte, except for palestine by marc lamont hill, invisible women by caroline criado-perez, winner's curse by marie rutkoski, zero to one by peter thiel, inglorious empire by shashi tharoor and probably like 3746378 others

Current obsession: korean skincare. it's weird i've never been into beauty products or anything before but ever since i moved to this new place my skin has become abysmal and nothing i tried worked until i decided to check out k-beauty stuff. and i am blown away?? by just? how much research has gone into this industry like this stuff Works (and it's melanin friendly!) and i've looked into it so much that at this point i could change my phd topic from cardiovascular science to dermatology and no one would notice

Favourite colour: this is a tough one. i would say PINK without hesitation but that sounds unfair to other colours when there are so many beautiful colours in the world. like have you seen purple. or orange when the sun sets?? omg when the sky is orange and blue together like that is such a powerful combo. but then there's also green which is so soothing. but have you considered dark brown eyes. how gorgeous they are. i saw a colleague's deep red nails yesterday and she described them as cherry mocha and i was positive that that is my new favourite colour. but did you know that butterflies can see five primary colours. and mantis shrimp can see 12???? in that case we're all colourblind like maybe i can't even see the colour that i'll most likely like

i was tagged by @sorrowfulliming and @heesulovebot thank you both so much, I had a lot of fun doing this list! ❤️ I tried to choose some shows that have had kind of played a significant role in my life in one way or another, maybe you'll learn a bit more about me through this idk

one tree hill (2003 - 2012) i feel like this one is the most important show if you want to know me. It's half of my personality. I grew up with this show and all of these characters mean the absolute world to me, I relate to them on a deep level and I've rewatched all 9 seasons of this so many times that if you tell me a quote from the show I can tell you who said it and in what context and season (maybe even episode) it was said. It's probably the best teen drama ever made and except for lack of representation (which i can excuse to some extent because it started airing in the early 00s) this is really something everyone can and should watch. Nothing beats the friendships in this show. I'm still searching for the brooke & haley to my peyton tbh

the vampire diaries (2009 - 2017) this show is very special to me because I started learning english more intensely and on my own outside of school because I couldn't wait until they were showing the eps with german dub half a year after they originally aired. I had to wait 4 years until the show made stefan & caroline a couple and no other ship has ever come close to how I felt (and still feel) about them. best friends to lovers will always get me and they did it so well. we do not talk about anything after 7x05, the show ended there for me tyvm. they were by far the best part of the show for me since I dislike a lot of the decisions the show made a lot of the time. but they were the reason I created a tumblr account back in 2015 that I've since forgot the name and password for 😂 it was an account dedicated to making icons for tvd. ugh i miss shows with multiple seasons and 24 eps for each season

blueming (2021) this bl drama is always gonna be important to me since it made me decide to choose film as the thing I want to major in. I got really into independent movies after watching blueming because the cinematography of it astounded me and I wanted to learn more about it and how to create beautiful shots like those in the drama myself. I also rewatch it frequently. siwon is very dear to me.

taxi driver (2021 - 2023) i debated if i should put this or the devil judge/flower of evil/happiness here because i love them all dearly and they're all tied for my fav kdramas of all time but this one was the first kdrama i watched weekly as it aired and I was so obsessed with it and its cases and characters. i love darker themes and case-by-case dramas, it's my favorite genre when it comes to korean shows. kim doki is such a dear character to me and i love the way jehoon plays him. words can't describe how happy i am that it's back on my screen and just as good as it always was. (plus pyo yejin is one of my biggest celebrity crushes i love her sm)

the haunting of hill house (2018) one of the greatest shows ever made and imo the best of its genre. ep 6 of this show especially impressed me so much because it just consists of multiple one-shots. i love mike flanagan, he's my favorite director and if you're into psychological horror i more than recommend watching this and midnight mass because they're both masterpieces. mike has this way of connecting horror and sadness and he does it so so well. I could write essays about his filmmaking and he's my biggest inspiration when it comes to film.

my engineer (2020) this was the first bl I was really invested in, I even bought tickets to the online fanmeeting which i usually never do for anything. these characters and actors really helped me get through the lockdowns in 2020. one of the few bls where they managed to give everyone their fair screen time and made everyone's story enjoyable to watch. also very important part of why i loved watching it was the lack of fanservice they made the actors do and that we got them all in one room reacting to every episode together. it was the best and i wish more shows would do it.

light on me (2021) oh what a show. even though I don't like the ending and I think the last episode had some continuity issues and felt like a second thought in some ways I thorougly enjoyed the ride this drama took me on. the runtime allowed for the show to explore its characters well and made us able to connect with them. i miss that for newer shows a lot. shin daon is and probably will always be my favorite k-bl character, he felt so real and I could see an old version of myself in him. he deserved a lot better and I hope he's off to college living his best life, he deserves it.

one day at a time (2017 - 2020) let me just say that I am NOT a sitcom enjoyer. shows that are targeted to make me laugh usually don't and I get bored early on because I don't get the appeal. nothing against these shows, they just don't speak to me. HOWEVER odaat is a huge exception because I was hooked to the well-balanced use of humor and deep conversations and topics portrayed in this show. plus it also made me laugh!! and sometimes also cry both in the span of 5 minutes. these characters have a special place in my heart. elena halped me a lot in my journey of self-discovery and I loved the way the show portrayed her journey.

bonus: (i know this technically makes it 9 but i didn't know where to put it)

wish you (2021) I'm adding this as well but extra since I only ever watch the movie version of it. it's imo the only kbl that works as a movie. even though not a lot of people love this, it is my most rewatched k-bl (and I think bl in general). I adore Sang Yi, he's a lot like me and watching him be an awkward mess in front of his crush and idol is very cute to watch. the OST for this show is also so good i listen to it all of the time.

Currently watching: Well currently I’m rewatching Betty La Fea but I’ve been on a small hiatus since I’ve been watching bits of Adventure Time/Fiona and Cake since clips have been popping up on my fyp (y’all don’t understand how happy I am! I used to be obsessed with Adventure Time!)

Other stuff I watched this year: I’ve watched Mad for Each Other (kdrama), Puss in Boots: the last wish, Kotaro Lives Alone(anime), Game of Throne, Caroline, live action of Kimi Ni Todoke, Peter Pan (2003 film), Extraordinary Attorney Woo (kdrama), What Happened to Monday

Shows I dropped/didn’t finished: The Glory(kdrama) - I watched the first episode and I loved it!! But had to stop cause there was a sex scene in episode 2💀 I was in my living room when the moaning started😭 jump scare fr! but I’ll continue once I finish ysblf. Game of Thrones- I stopped in season 5, got scared cause everyone said that’s when the series goes downhill 🫠 I’ll continue later on since I do want to finish and move on to House of the Dragon.

Currently reading: The last book I’ve read was The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It’s so good I recommend! Evelyn is simply a badass! Other than that I’ve mostly been reading fanfics🙈 a fic I finished a few hours ago was What If…(YSBLF Version) by RocioAndrews on Wattpad. I love this fic!! I’m always waiting patiently for updates 😆 Also I’ve recently bought Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton and I’m excited to read it soon!

Currently listening to (sneaky additional question): I’ve been listening to a lot of Shakira songs lately. I’m actually currently obsessed with Ojos Asi 💃🏻 also I’ve been listening to the OST from Blue Exorcist, it’s one of my fav anime. I’ve been obsessed with DEVIL: eXORCiST and U&Cloud both by Hiroyuki Sawano. These two make me feel like I’m about to fight in a battle🤺

Hey! You said you weren’t a fan of how forwood got together. Do you mean how they started liking each other and hanging out? Or when they first slept together? I’m a big forwood fan too, and wish they got treated better.

Hey! Yeah, so I LOVED their development. Caroline being there for him, Tyler being less of an overbearing piece of shit to this softer, more empathetic person. And I wanted to see that kind of bleed into a relationship they didn't really know what happening? Like, I donno, maybe I watch too many kdramas and anime but I wanted the kind of organic relationship where Tyler realizes he loves her, but Caroline comes to it later, and they kinda get to this, giddy, acceptance place after some initial awkwardness and it's just cute, honest and funny, because I feel like they could have crushed that. But instead we got this ridiculously cheap "we're SUPER horny for each other, let's be totally weird, possessive and awkward at this party until we just say fuck it and tear ea other's clothes off." And I just thought that was like...remarkably ghetto. I don't think everything HAS to be this loaded sexual tension. American television needs to learn the art of subtly instead of smashing into every character arc like the kool aid man. I would have liked to see that mix of tension + wholesomeness til they got to that inevitable next step where they were like we're together, we love each other, K LET'S FUCK. More Oz/Willow, less Gossip Girl.

I too think Forwood deserved way better overall but yeah, that intro to being together was...sloppy.

A little thing called healing.

To be fair, I found that quote on some website, but I think it does sum up what I’m feeling at the moment. What do you do when you cannot forgive yourself? I’m here currently behind my laptop, drinking multiple soju bombs (sprite + green grape soju + yakult is great ya’ll) eating some snacks with chopsticks feeling absolutely miserable about life, and myself. The funny thing is, just last week I was feeling surprisingly good about it all. There are multiple reasons for why I’ve spiraled (again) back in my hole as I like to call it. Insecurities. Uncertainties. The pandemic. Love. Loneliness. A lot of other reasons that I could go on about. But it all boils me blaming myself about a lot of things that I cannot, and will not, be able to control. Except for maybe my insecurities, but that is also something that I still need to work on.

Forgiveness with other people, I can do. Forgiveness directed at myself? It is a little harder to do. And I wish it were easy, but it really isn’t right now. I honestly, genuinely want to say that it is okay to feel these things (and they are, trust me) but days like today make it a little harder to believe. Healing is not linear; it is a wild roller-coaster ride. Some days you will feel great, and other days you’ll feel like absolute sh*t. And that is okay. We are human; it is quite alright to not feel 100% all the time.

The KDrama I recently watched, (and I don’t really watch a lot to be honest) It’s Okay to Not Be Okay is one of the best series that I have watched in recent years. And I cried a lot. I aspire to one day be like Gang-Tae and be able to say that I love myself wholeheartedly.

I am still learning to forgive myself when I slip up. I am still learning to understand that humans make mistakes and fail all the time. I am still learning to be a better version of myself everyday. I cannot wait to see what blossoms at the end of this.

i used to live for tvd! caroline was underrated towards the end but my favourite was always bonnie for being the real mvp no matter what.

i, am a brit. lol. england. i live a little north of london (40min train to st pancreas & kings cross). i do, however, have welsh heritage + german heritage. (the german but i found out myself quite recently). i do know some polish tho since i grew up in an area where a lot of eastern european’s have moved to! (also had a few friends who’s houses i’d go round and pick up on some things). i also once had a teacher greet me in polish??? i was like bro?? when have you ever caught me speaking a word of polish before?

um i can speak a little welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿(enough to be polite in the shops & greet people in the street) and french 🇫🇷 (maybe intermediate/advanced? not fluent, i’d say). i should probably touch up on my french though it’s a little rusty but i can read & understand (listen to) it perfectly fine. i can also read hangul (한글) 🇰🇷 (i’ve no idea what i’m saying though, i learnt to read the alphabet bc that’s how to start learning) and can speak small phrases i’ve picked up from the tv. uh, english too? 🇬🇧 although i’m sure i didn’t need to specify. i can ask where the train station is in japanese too. 🇯🇵

i kinda wanna learn polish tho? i live in an area where it’d benefit me enough to learn it plus it’d be nice bc i have a friend who’s mum isn’t confident in speaking english unless she absolutely has to so i could be nice when i visit (post corona). it’d be completely off my own back so maybe i’ll wait until i have enough time to dedicate to it. how/where do you study spanish?

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.    

Ok, this honestly changes so frequently which is why I’ve also constantly adapted my writing style! I think a mixture of those YA mostly influenced my style while older classics helped me consider depth in character and plot. I looked up to YA authors like Sarah Dessen, Marissa Meyer, Marie Lu, and Cassandra Clare. The Kite Runner and Their Eyes Were Watching God really impressed me. 9. Least favorite trope to write. 

 Fake dating/contract dating/let’s-get-revenge-on-our-respective-unrequited-loves-but-end-up-falling-for-each-other-in-the-process. I think I’ve watched too many kdramas based on this trope and the plot line is predictable and cringey by now. But hey, this doesn’t mean there aren’t well written fanfics based on this trope out there. Just my least favorite to write imo ^^

11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.

 HAHAHAHA, GOOD ONE. I usually bullet point and then freestyle the rest of the story. That’s it for the most part, lmao. I have specifically planned out some series like Unscripted and currently Corona, but I often change things as I write too so nothing is set in stone until I actually start writing.

36. A spoiler for story _________.

Do any of you guys remember Vicissitude? I actually have about a third of the final part done and it’s been collecting dust since I last touched it. Maybe this winter I’ll finally finish it, lols. Here’s a snippet of my fave scene so far:

Brilliant, _________, just brilliant.

You wanted to drift far away from your problems but you didn’t actually want to be this far away.

Not even a sign of civilization.    

You’ve never hated yourself more than you do now.

Another set of time passes, you have no idea how much, but by then your nose is frozen and you’re certain you’re only minutes away from getting frostbite on your toes. Along with that, you’re also left with some thinking time. Said thinking time encompasses just about everything odd and dramatic that has occurred throughout the course of this trip, what exactly you need to do to survive this, and how to untangle the tangled affairs in your heart.

And just when you think you might die without clearing up your ongoing issues, salvation comes.

There’s a guy wearing a bright orange jacket walking in the opposite direction as you. At first you think it’s Taemin because you’re very familiar with that jacket.

Though when you yell out and frantically flail your hands to catch his attention, you realize two things.

One, the guy is certainly not Taemin. His shoulders are too broad to be Taemin and he’s also a few inches taller than Taemin.

Two, Kyungsoo’s words of wisdom just slapped you in the face.

“_______? Are you okay? What are you doing out here? God, you’re freezing.”

There are hands on your cheeks. Warm ones. Warm hands in the middle of Arctic weather. And if you close your eyes long enough, you can almost picture home.

“Chanyeol, I’m cold.”

His hands slip from your cheeks and you hear the unzipping of his jacket, crunching of the snow, and then there’s fabric being wrapped around your neck.

You open your eyes, instantly regretting it after finding Chanyeol standing closer than before. While he’s focused on burrowing you underneath his scarf, you take in the bits of snow nestled in his bright hair and the urgency in his movements.

The deep line of worry across his forehead.

You don’t know what to make of this. You don’t know what to make of anything.

All you know is that you have to tell him something.

Anything.

“Let’s get you back inside.”

He’s tugging at your arm, and when you don’t respond, his hold slips to your wrist and he forces you to stumble after him.

He’s not asking any questions.

Which worries you more than the cold piercing into your skin.

“Chanyeol.”

“We’ve got about fifteen minutes before you start developing frost bite, but I don’t think we’re too far from the cabin. We’ll make it.”

That all sounds great and relieving but it’s not exactly why you called him in the first place.

“Chanyeol.”

“We should really pick up the pace, though. Just in case I’m wrong about where we are and we both end up-“

“Yeol.”

That seems to quiet him.

He slows his pace but doesn’t stop. You still consider it a small victory as his ears flare a hint of pink at his newly birthed nickname, and you feel yourself flush too. You aren’t concerned with that because your whole face is too frozen to show a hint of color anymore.

It’s just the embarrassed feeling that lingers.

That’s not stopping you.

You need to say this before you get back to the cabin and the magic of being alone and somewhat courageous out here begins to wear off.

“In sophomore year, my favorite instrument was the guitar.” you feel his grip on your wrist loosen which means he’s finally listening. You sniff and breathe out, watching your breathe puff out in a white cloud before disappearing into the fog surrounding the two of you like a heavy cloak. “And then I went out with Yixing.”

Chanyeol stops so suddenly you nearly walk straight into him.

He turns to face you, and as soon as he does you launch into an unpracticed narration of a story you haven’t told in a long time and count down the minutes you have left before you really need to book it back indoors and possibly hide forever.

54. Any writing advice you want to share?

Connect with other writers! I think this is equally important to other good writing tips. Talking it out with someone who can relate with your writing troubles and concerns is a great way bounce ideas and get them flowing. It’s also a perfect opportunity to make friends and learn from other writers!

Never knew I would continue watching tvd for steroline. Never expect that. I have already abandoned tvd ever since S3 or S4 couldn’t remember because I honestly don’t understand why Elena always had to be the center of everything and why does Stefan needs to take everything for her. And there’s Damon. I’m like wtf is going on. You don’t go for your brother’s girl even if the two is not in a relationship anymore. That’s like number one rule and you know it’s only going to taint the brothers’ relationship. Esp when they have a significant past that hasn’t been resolved yet. Elena just let that happen. You seriously think she was emphatic after doing that? Nah. That was probably the most selfish thing I have ever watched and to think that Stefan has done everything in his effort to shower her with protection, support and love, the least she could do is to protect his feelings. I was so done with everything and hoping Stefan to find someone better and just stop loving Elena entirely cause she’s not worth the pain.

Then in S5 everything changed. In a way I was glad that Caroline is there for him despite her being with Tyler still and I did like the idea of Klaus and Caroline together. But it didn’t last that long cause I think Klaus is so f-up emotionally to be paired up with Caroline. More importantly I love Caroline and Stefan’s relationship. THEY FRIGGIN TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER SO MUCH. I’m just.......ugh couldn’t figure any word to describe my feelings...After that leaning hug or something in the old bus it was a point of no return for me.

I just want to say I’m so happy and proud to where Steroline have gotten. My precious precious ship. It was a journey to see how their relationship have evolved. I watch and read a lot of kdramas, asian dramas, mangas, anime, fantasy-romantic stuffs out there but there are only a few couples that I take seriously. Steroline is truly on another level for me. They’re legit relationship goals. I want to thank the fandom too, cause you guys are part of the amazing thing that came along with Steroline. The best fandom I’ve been in so far.

The Ferris Wheel {SE Drabble}

You can thank the Kdrama Crash Landing On You for this drabble. There’s a scene where the two leads are drunk and start admitting things to each other that they can’t admit when they’re sober and I was like, Bah! SE could’ve totally had a scene like this! So I wrote one.

Elena and Stefan stumbled into the carnival grounds, laughing loudly and passing a half-empty bottle of Damon’s favourite bourbon back and forth. Elena was in possession of the liquor and after a hearty swig, she giggled mischievously.

           “Hey, Stefan, you’re a football player, go long.”

           “What?”

           The words were barely out of his mouth before Elena threw the bottle clear across the park and Stefan had to vamp speed to get in time and keep it from smashing to the ground.

           “SCORE!” she yelled.

           “You mean touchdown,” said Stefan.

           “Score, touchdown, homerun, who cares!”

            “Hey, drunk lady, you’re being incredibly loud.”

           “I REPEAT, WHO. CARES?” said Elena. “There’s no one here!” She started twirling around in circles, her arms wide above her head. Stefan sipped from the bottle, watching her partly exasperated and partly enamoured.  

“We have the whole place to ourselves,” she said. “Like last time.”

“Ah well,” said Stefan. “Not quite like last time.” And with that, he sped off.

Elena threw her hands up in the air. “Hey, don’t take off with the bottle!”

She sped after him and found that he stopped in front of the ferris wheel. She gazed up at it and smiled brightly, the memory of their first time on these grounds together intensifying her light-headedness.

           “What a night,” she whispered.

           Stefan pressed his lips together. “You’re a vampire now, you can get to the top.”

           She looked at him. “Race you,” she said. “Extra points if you don’t spill any booze.”

           She barely finished the sentence before Stefan jumped, rocketing upwards, and she had to go after them. They landed on the top seat at the same time.

           “I won,” said Stefan.

           “No, you cheated so you could win and you still lost,” said Elena, laughing. “I think I’ll take a celebratory drink, thank you.” She took the bottle.

           “Hold on, you didn’t win, if anything it was a tie,” said Stefan.

Elena continued to giggle and Stefan gazed at her, smiling, his expression becoming more serious, almost wistful. She turned to him.

           “What?”

           He shook his head. “Nothing.”

           “No, come on,” she prompted. “It’s me, you can tell me anything.”

           Stefan took the bottle of her hand and drank from it. “Even if you’ll hate me for it?”

           Elena scoffed. “I’ve never been able to hate you, Stefan. I can’t do it, it’s not in me.”

           He sighed and then regarded her, the weight of what he wanted to say making his eyes glisten. “Are you drunk?”

           “No,” said Elena gravely. “Yes.” She sputtered out a laugh.

           “I’m serious,” said Stefan with a small grin. “I can’t tell you unless you’re drunk.” He took another long sip from the bottle. “Unless I’m drunk too.”

           Elena took the bottle back and chugged, coughing slightly when she finally swallowed. “I’m pretty wasted.”

           “OK,” said Stefan. He paused for a few moments. “I’ve never stopped loving you,” he said. “And I don’t mean it like how we tell each other ‘I’ll always love you’, I mean, I’ve actually never stopped loving you.” He looked her in the eye. “I … actively love you.” He said the last two words in an exhale, like he was releasing them from deep within his body.

           “Shit,” Elena whispered, her eyes fluttering. “I think my buzz is gone.”

           “Then I’ll stop talking.”

           “No,” said Elena quickly. Stefan lowered his head and when Elena followed his gaze, she realized that she had grabbed his arm, gripping it tightly in an instinctive effort to stop him from pulling back.

           “Elena…”

           “If you stop talking now then I really will hate you,” she said. An expression like hurt swiftly passed over Stefan’s face and Elena took another swig from the bottle. “I’ll keep it going,” she said.

           Stefan took the bottle and drank from it too. “Yeah, me too.”

           They were silent for a bit and then Elena urged him to continue. “So, what else did you want to say?”

           “Nothing, just,” he sighed. “I think about you. I think about us. More than I should.” He paused to consider his words. “A lot.” He shook his head. “All the time.” He swallowed hard. “When I see you with … Damon. When I’m with Caroline. I just … I think about what we had. What we could’ve had.” Stefan’s voice dropped to a choked whisper. “What we should’ve had.”

           Elena bit her lip to keep it from quivering. “And what does that look like?”

           “Well Rebekah told you, remember? A human life where we grow old together, live together … … have children together. Boys, you know, I never really thought about what we’d name them---”

           “Grayson,” said Elena. “After my dad.”

           Stefan looked at her sharply.

           “One boy, though. Our second kid would be a girl and we’d name her, Alexandria, but we’ll call her Lexi. Before that, though, we spend a couple of years in Paris. I’ve always wanted to do that thing, you know, be a writer in Paris, and you, you said---”

           “It’s one of my favourite cities,” said Stefan quietly.

           Elena took a deep breath. “Take another drink of that,” she said. “A long one this time.”

           Stefan did. Elena took the bottle and followed suit. She looked at Stefan, her eyes shining. “It’s my turn, you ready?”

           Stefan nodded once.

           “I regret my choice,” she said. Stefan closed his eyes, the air snuffed out of his body. “I shouldn’t have picked Damon,” Elena continued. “It should’ve been you. It’s always been you. And I wish…” Elena cleared her throat.

“I wish that I could go back and make the right choice. But since I can’t,” she took a shaky breath. “What I wish for now is to stay on this ferris wheel, with you, and just … … never go back.”

           “That sounds … … perfect.”

           “It does, doesn’t it?” said Elena.

           They stared at each other, yearning and guilt in their expressions as they slowly inched towards each other, pressing their foreheads together, breathing each other in. They stayed that way for a while until they both knew they had to separate before they crossed a line.

           Stefan took a swig from the bottle. “We can stay until this is finished,” he said.

           “Yeah,” said Elena, taking the bottle back. “And tomorrow this will just be a false memory.”

           And she took another sip.
