Whenever I think too hard about the forest spirits serving Held I just go
“Wow, Luna Held and Sickle were...assholes! No surprise there...”
I mean the forest spirits sound like straight up horror to me. Their memories of their past, family, EVERYTHING is erased and they are serving a god and if they disobey him he banishes them??? like a cult?? Like wtf Held? Do you have no shame?
Lich was RIGHT. If it really was necessary to erase THEIR memories, then why didn’t Held erase his own??
Yeah bc he’s a coward.
Like, what part of that plan was acceptable to you?? You took everything from them and they don’t even remember. They probably never did, even during the mothy novel. He just stole their identites from them. That’s some psychological horror shit.

Other misc things:
- Chains of others gets the Gloom effect rather than Pride when Meur uses it in story. Given how he says outright he wishes to protect Heathcliff and how the idea of an unfair judgement [from Erlking judging that all Heathcliffs must die to the court in his novel] is a theme they both share.
- In the end scene, Rodya is at the back of the bus and seemingly in deep thought, can't remember her saying much in the later parts of the Canto either. Something must've hit her hard.
- Is the river under the Heights something connected to the 'stream of human consciousness' [paraphrased] that I believe was mentioned in lobcorp?
- We know boughs can be destroyed, but I wonder if one can be 'reactivated'. The one Dante hold onto in Pass On is charred black but still intact.
- To add to the parallels, Heath n Yi Sang both get stabbed in the heart by a bough, one by their own volition in an act of love, and another by someone else.
- Why does Demian remember Cathy. It's probably something to due to the stars but half the time I'm fairly certain he's just standing invisible somewhere during the story given how much he knows. But given the body and coffin were both still there, I doubt ctrl alt deleting someone fully erases them from everything.
OK answering one by one:
I LOVED THAT MOMENT SO MUCH. In general it was such a surprise and treat to see how much more active Meursault was in this Canto and I was wondering about the Gloom change unless I was just misremembering the color since Pride is also blue but thanks for confirming. Meursault......... It's also so so cool to see the EGOs being used for practical uses like restraining someone like Meursault does, it makes me wonder what it can be do with some of the others like for example Ishmael's anchoring with Snagharpoon or Yi Sang's teleportation in Crow's Eye View
Actually good point though she actually spoke quite a bit I think, mainly in the first part about the resentments she has towards the rich, and the moment she has when they're approaching the mansion that brings up her dark side to the others in full force even if just for a second. Since apparently she's gonna be the focus of next Intervallo I hope it means she's getting more character development...
I say "yes, most likely" as I talked in my previous answer, taking in count Hermann has an interest in it and finding "the prime form of humanity" and The Well they talk about is the origin of everything in the world and humanity itself and responsible for The Light and EGO and everything, it's not the first time there's been a physical entrance to it somehow, the other most notable one is the Black Forest in the Outskirts that comes up more in-depth in Ruina.
Yeah I wonder how it can even get "burnt up" in the first place and what they're even gonna do with it since getting the charred Bough is treated as a grey area of sorts between success and failure. I wonder just How it lost its power and how it can be reactivated though taking in count it's basically magic
I SEND AN ASK TO MY FRIEND ABOUT THIS TOO, the other party involved for each Heathcliff and Yi Sang's cases are also the two most important women to them and great symbols for their own nostalgia and overall arcs, and they are connected to them through flowers that carry symbolic meaning and are tied to their homelands. Heathcliff stabbing himself as an act of showing his love to Catherine is also interesting because Dongbaek's reason for stabbing Yi Sang could also be interpreted as being a form of love, but...marred with heartbreak and hatred and resentment for what happened to the League like in the original Wuthering Heights [edit cuz I forgor: this is something amplified by the fact that when she stabs Yi Sang she quotes the line from The Camellias where the protagonists fall in love together both physically and metaphorically], specially since she was so overwhelmed seeing him she went for him when she was going to initially attack Dongrang derailing her plans. How she talks about it when questioned adds to it too since she kind of justifies herself saying that Yi Sang wanted to die too and isn't spiteful like she is towards Dongrang even being calm seeing he was just fine despite her murder attempt (but also the fact that she was unphased by that still gets me. She's really got no sanity left), and she was correct in claiming Yi Sang was longing for death even if the moment left a big emotional scar on him, much like Heathcliff's heart was broken by Catherine and so he breaks it in a literal sense for her.
Honestly Demian is just Demian. He's a weird little guy and probably exists out of time or something tying to his star. It's probably for the same justification as to why Heathcliff and Dante remembered Cathy, and she's def not truly "gone" since they couldn't really erase the consequences of her actions and presence. Hindley and Linton are still dead because of her.

The Icon Status of Jane Birkin
Best known for being the muse behind the renowned Hermès Birkin bag, Jane was and still is, one of the world's most famous icons. She made her way in the British cinema scene during the mid 60s and was a part of films like: The Knack... and How to Get It (1965) and Blow-Up(1966). The latter led her to a career-defining role in  Slogan (1969), during the making of which Jane met her decade-long partner, the famous French singer/songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. The pair was best known for the French love song "Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus", recorded in 1967 with Brigitte Bardot. After he fell for Jane, Serge asked her to re-record the song. "Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus" was banned in several countries due to its overtly sexual content. Thus began a love story of the century. The couple's wild lifestyle inspired a freedom in an era when sexual expression was still taboo.

STYLE ICON
Jane Birkin acquired her style icon status through her day-to-day outfits. Her relaxed British demeanor, clean statement pieces, and French elegance were a killer combination. Thus, Jane stood out amongst other iconic stars of the time - bombshell beauty symbols such as Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, etc. Birkin's signature look was her long, usually messy, bedhead hair and fringe, flared blue jeans, simple white tees, and the capacious woven basket. However, it would be naive and unfair to say that Jane was an icon only because of her clothes.

LA PISCINE (1969) - a short summary
This slow-burn erotic crime drama directed by Jaques Deray follows Romy Schneider and Alain Delon as Marianne and Jean-Paul - a couple vacationing in a luxurious villa in the French Riviera. La Piscine presents an atmosphere that feels exactly like a careless summer holiday. The sweetness of doing nothing, dinners outside, bottles of wine, dancing, sleeping, kissing, and none other than - swimming in the pool. That is until, Jean-Paul’s old friend and Marianne’s former lover Harry drops by, along with his teenage daughter Penelope (Jane Birkin).
Tumblr media
Costume Design
The person behind the costume design of La Piscine was the French designer André Courrèges. The looks made for Jane, specifically, were very much close to her actual style. Minimalistic colour palettes, simple silhouettes, and, most importantly, comfort mixed with elegance. These choices make Penelope's teenage essence stand out amongst all the rest of the thirty-something characters. We see lots of short skirts, revealing dresses, and very little make-up on her. Penelope's first look in the film includes a classic white 3/4 sleeved shirt, tucked into a mini checkered skirt. The accessories perfectly elevate this simple look. A delicate black belt to enhance the waist, black ballet mini-heels (talk about comfortable elegance), massive round sunglasses with blue lenses, and, of course, the basket.

Poolside Crochet Dress
Another statement look for Jane was this gorgeous white crochet poolside dress. The '60s was the decade for crochet pieces, thus it was representative of the trends. An ideal piece to throw on after a swim (with great ventilation too). The dress has a densely crocheted top around the bust area and reveals more skin going down, with a rather loosely crocheted spider-web pattern. It perfectly encapsulates Penelope's character - as the dress blends sensuality with a bit of alluring elegance. Good luck to me, because I will be trying to crochet this.

SWIMMING SUITS When there's a swimming pool, there's always a swimming suit (well...). Because of the luxurious and colourful mise en scene in the film, the bathing suits worn by both Romy and Jane were either black or white shades. The pieces presented a distinct contrast between the greenery of the landscapes and the marine blue of the pool. This choice was the most immaculate way of capturing the effortless and elegant French way of dressing. As well as accentuating the dichotomy of both characters.

JANE B. FOR Agnès V.
In 1988, the French filmmaker Agnès Varda decided to create an experimental documentary about Jane Birkin. The idea came from their conversation on how Jane felt anxious about turning forty. Agnès thought that it was the perfect opportunity to make a beautiful portrait of Jane's life. The documentary is filled with Jane acting in fake movie scenes, posing in Goya and Tiziano Vecelli's "paintings", portraying Joan of Arc, visiting her childhood home, and talking about her life. Varda's vision of Jane brings a magnetic piece of work to life. It is a must-watch for anyone who admires Jane or wishes to know a bit more about her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’m Jane B. I was born British. My height now is 5 feet 7 inches. No distinguishing marks. No exceptional talents, but I’m here. You’re watching me as time passes.” - says Jane in the film. It seemed that everyone but herself thought of her as a charming, magnetic person. Not only Agnès Varda but also Jane's daughter, actress and director Charlotte Gainsbourg, created an ode to her mother in 2021, called Jane for Charlotte. Finally, in her forties, Jane fully embraced her lifelong insecurities - she cut her hair short, exchanged ballet shoes for old sneakers, and started wearing oversized men's suits. Jane lived the second half of her life in her truest form, until the very end.
I started writing this a couple of days before Jane's death. I thought the timing was hauntingly coincidental. She has been a part of my life ever since I read about her for the first time in Alexa Chung's IT (2013). It was one of those moments, where you can just sense that a person is special and I could not look away. I started watching her interviews, pinning every possible photo of her on Pinterest, printing out photos of her to hang on my wall, listening to her music, and watching her films. I cut my fringe at fifteen because of her and started separating my bottom lashes with lumpy mascara... My mum even bought me a basket-like bag to carry with me. Jane Birkin was not only a style icon to me. Her humble confidence, magnetic presence, and grace were the qualities I admired the most about her. Now, that is true beauty.
Rest easy, dear Jane. Au revoir.

Maria x Catherine
ouhhhh I haven’t thought about that before... 🥺
I actually ship them both with different people!
with Maria, I created a whole entire backstory for her LONG before I knew ( and before it was more clearly revealed by mothy ) what her canon backstory was— and that included a husband! I kind of toyed with the idea of the husband being Gammon’s reincarnation, but I’ve never been fully sure of it :p
and with Catorine, it’s a bit silly to explain ehe... so my dearest friends and I have this big fourth period ... au? rp? story? that we’ve been working on for almost three years now! anddd since it’s fourth period, that means EVERYONE from ALL the arcs and previous periods are there, so... I guess you could say there’s a lot of “crack ships”? I personally ship Catorine with someone from envy arc ☺️
but! I think the idea of Maria x Catherine could be very cute! Adam’s mommas holding hands and being cute oh ohhhh... 🥺🥺

The terraforming was progressing steadily.
"Your robots are hard workers," he remarked to the girl standing next to him with a smile as he watched the monitor.
But there was another consciousness thinking something entirely different in his mind.
...Does this mean you'll become gods?
The initial plan had already fallen to pieces.
In that case, they ought to head for a peaceful death, accepting humanity's defeat.
Doing something like this would only cause them to repeat the same history, in the end.
Malice couldn't be destroyed.
That was something he had realized firsthand.
.
He couldn't reveal his true thoughts to her.
His body now belonged to another being.
His mouth, his eyes, his fingers, there was nothing of his that he could move under his own will.
Just like the robots displayed through the monitor.
.
They had been unable to leave malice behind on their home world.
It existed here too, and it was controlling his body.
---------
She was the only one to survive.
He continued to walk through the white hallway, paying no mind to the blood and gore sticking to the soles of his shoes.
.
She hadn't been in her room.
A dead dog was lying on the operating table.
Her cherished pet dog.
Upon closer inspection, its head had been made hollow.
Its brains were gouged out.
"Do you know what this means?" A black box with arms and legs spoke to him.
At some point it had come to stand beside him.
"I guess it means it’s too soon for a game over," he replied.
-------
“The only thing I need is a single bit of bravery.”
-------
After saying that, he took the gun and shot himself in the head.
