Deep Dive Into Sims 3 Trees Conversion
(your opinion is needed!)
Tumblr media
Wonderful @somedaythesun recently made a post about her research on a way of converting Sims 3 Speedtree trees to Sims 2. You know, that impossible thing to do?
Well, I was very curious how she managed to do this and I suggested my help in this project.
We started branstorming ideas and new ways of making these trees work: from her post you’ll learn that the main difficulty is the fact that the leaves part only faces the front of the tree making holes in it if camera is turned, like this:
Tumblr media
The picture above is the best we can do so far, with leaves having their undersides but still staying very low poly (this tree above is 1334 polys).
Tumblr media
Another not so great part was that extracted textures were very small, we are talking 64x256 for bark and 256x256 (rarely 512x512) for leaves. Any sims creator (or not) will understand that it’s not good for overall look of the object, especially as big as trees. Somedaythesun however found a way to upscale these textures but it didn’t work well for all of them. Some additional color correction was also required because for some reason trunk textures were extremely bright and not like in the original game.
We also had to decide on the trees size, if you played Sims 3 (which I guess most of us here did), you’ll know that the trees in this game are absolutely HUGE! It’s 4 storeys for a bamboo and more than 6 for a spruce.
There were some trees however that were not made the same way, notably the palms:
Tumblr media
Palms must have been made in an old school way so their leaves were fine. At least something worked as intended...
We continued searching high and low for a way to “fix” the leaves but eventually we found out that it would not be possible, and @zeussims who was the pioneer of Sims 3 trees conversion (that Glauer tree!), earlier confirmed our fears.
The main point of this technology, the Speedtree, is that the leaves always face the camera. When trees are extracted in other formats, their leaves freeze in one position and nothing can be done about it. So to make it work as intended, the game itself must understand the Speedtree format which is not the case of Sims 2.
So now that you know all of this, we need your help making decisions!
We don’t have polls yet so we’d appreciate if you could leave your comments (don’t be shy!) giving us your opinion on the following:
1. Should we convert these trees despite their look?
2. Should we make them all seasonal (keep in mind that seasonal trees are much bigger in filesize than their non seasonal versions)?
3. Should we keep their original height or adapt it to Sims 2 (make them smaller)?
Your feedback will help us a lot, thank you!

Can anyone help me with the settings of Texture Tools Exporter 2023 for saving PNGs as DDS? I use Photoshop 2022 🏴‍☠️
I'm just a small Simblr account, so reblogging is appreciated

I’ve gone through like 3 iterations of this post but I was watching qsmp all day from Fit’s stream to the end of Foolish on qsmp and it was upsetting despite all it’s funny moments.
Because it sucks that the ccs never include Foolish in relevant lore/rp information sharing. What I mean is that an entire group of ccs will have an entire hour or more of rp/lore talk or activities, then start to chill a bit which is when Foolish usually ends up logging on and they don’t talk to him about it at all. Even if they all agree that there is a certain piece of information that they should let everyone know about. It sucks even more when one or more ccs will tell other ccs who weren’t on at the time the info they discussed while Foolish is online. Worse part is that Foolish will often have some information that they want/need and that this entire situation has happened so many times before today.
And I don’t think I’m wrong in saying that it’s because they don’t respect Foolish enough to let him break from the “silly goofy guy” character they stick to him. He has good serious lore, he’s shown himself to be serious in front of all of them multiple times and he’s done the one thing all of them haven’t which is successfully infiltrate and genuinely become one of the fed which gives him more information then all of them.
You can try to chalk it up to their character not trusting Foolish, yet there is always someone they tell who they should or do trust way less then Foolish. Even to say it’s about the Tazercraft arrest is crazy too, because they forgave him for that and it was months ago. Or even that someone they tell will pass the info along, which is arguably worse because they don’t know they will and why should he always be getting info from a second hand source, when he was right in front of them minutes ago.
It just shows more clearly in the way they treat Leo too, since they will never let her be her own person and not an extension of Foolish. I think they definitely respect him as a person but I think they just don’t respect him as someone able to do good character lore/rp. Which is bullshit because half of them watched him basically killing it and saving the day on OPQ. It just genuinely sucks because it feels like it’s been months now of people just pushing Foolish to the side when it comes to Lore/rp discussions.
And it never makes sense, they say let all the single parents know ____ yet Foolish never knows or ask everyone about the Fed workers and Cucurucho yet Foolish is never asked. It’s not even that he doesn’t help because he does when it really counts. But even more shit like that excludes him and it never makes sense because Foolish is a very active player and he talks to everybody.
Along with all this, this is all part of the reason no one ever gets info from Foolish, they either never ask him, never take him seriously or claim he doesn’t have proof. You could say that oh he should be telling them the info anyway, but like they none of them go screaming somewhat private information the moment they find out(especially Cellbit who they trusted so much to figure out the island/fed) so why should he be screaming private info from the top of his lungs?
It really is just why at this point? Why doesn’t Foolish get to know information that might save Leo? Why doesn’t Foolish get to help the team? Why won’t they let him help the team? Why don’t they ask him about important lore/rp topics? Why do they assume he’s not going to help? Why don’t they let him break from this stereotype that they’ve stuck to him? Why don’t they ever take him seriously?

on the subject of parentification. i wonder if this applied to how michael (and maybe elizabeth as well) had to treat william, in addition to having to raise self + siblings
i can absolutely see the afton kids having to make his dinner, having to calm him down, having to comfort him in his ramblings and make decisions they don't understand

okay but I think the eggs could be a good way to get the teams talking again. like. I reaaaaally want to think none of them want to kill eggs with the risk that they're real eggs. also it'd be really funny if they left with +3 eggs somehow.

now this reminded me of my new barb tail hc
what if. what if he is actually more fish like, and he used to mostly live underwater before Devildom and all. and lost his fins when he started to live on land?? I kinda think his current form is inspired by a species he saw long ago and kinda just decided to keep it on after they went extinct. yes Barbatos can shapeshift in my headcanon!!
Oh, I love the shapeshifting headcanon!
I think shapeshifting is super cool (not me making one of my original story OCs a shapeshifter adlkfkjf) so I am totally loving the idea that Barbatos can do it. I mean, why not? That definitely seems like something he should be able to do!
Anyway, I love the fish idea, too! He's like the demon version of the theory of evolution!
I've always kinda thought of him as amphibious, but really fish is not far from that! There are so many different types of fish, why not one with a tail like his? Plus who knows what kinds of fish there are in the Devildom...
Ah now I'm just imagining there being like a Barbatos fish. Everybody's like, hey it's that fish that looks like Lord Diavolo's butler! Nobody's allowed to eat it, so the law is if you catch a Barbatos fish you gotta release it back into the water. Barb himself probably finds that very silly, but it seems like something Dia would insist upon lol.

While I 100% agree that if people aren't having fun they should take a step back/quit, I don't like the "if you're not having fun just go find another game" argument because it's so often used to shut down actual legitimate criticism from people who are otherwise enjoying the game but want genuine problems to be addressed. (I've seen it, for example, when people try to bring up bigotry in games and suggest maybe making some changes to remove it. I always get wary when I see people say it now.)
Oh yeah absolutely. There's real criticism that we have to be able to point out and discuss. A lot of the times people use this for any minor criticism someone has and I agree, that's often a way to shut down the conversation. Criticism in general is supposed to come from a place of love: you love something and you want to see it be better.
Unfortunately, in this case, when the community turns into ONLY negativity and criticism, it's kinda hard to believe they care about the game anymore. If people still had some positive stuff to engage with and were enjoying the game but had issues, then sure. But most of the negativity online right now is just purely rage bait. Bungie apparently has no redeeming qualities, and Destiny is dead. Misinformation is spreading about everything: all devs abandoned Destiny to work on Marathon (claim with no source that's accepted as fact and makes no sense: Destiny is the only game making them money, they can't abandon it before Marathon is out. Like, logically), monetisation is the worst in the industry (I genuinely don't believe that they play other games if they think that Destiny's monetisation is the worst in the industry), Bungie is maliciously banning people for fun (????) but also Bungie isn't banning people enough, Bungie is maliciously making server issues and didn't develop a "fix server" button in their office, game development is easy and Bungie is just lazy and the devs don't want to tell us anything because they're evil, Destiny is falling apart and nobody is playing anymore (just trust me bro), and most recent one which is possibly the most baffling of all - Bungie Foundation is a scam to write off taxes. Yes, that is currently discourse (which apparently gets recycled every year). Bungie Foundation, a charity organisation that's been going on for 13 years and is an independent registered organisation, is a scam. This is where we're at with the community mentality. And there's even more.
When we're at this point, it's truly something else. Like, if they believe conspiracy theories about Bungie and think Bungie is scamming them, maybe they just shouldn't play the game anymore. Why are they still here if they think this is all a scam? I would drop the game if I believed any of this so strongly.
Normal people having criticism and all is perfectly fine however! I did my fair share especially recently about the season pass pricing changes which I called a predatory practice and still believe it is. There's a lot more stuff to complain about while still enjoying the game and not basing your entire online existence and personality on hating Bungie. If they've got nothing else to do besides sitting on twitter shitting on Bungie, maybe it's time to move on.
I've also had my suspicions about the motives for hardcore Bungie hate after the incidents involving transphobic attacks on Bungie devs following the LF showcase, as well as all the crap about Nimbus and their VA. Given the recent developments about the general anti-LGBT+ mentality, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a contingent of people who are focusing on Bungie more than anyone else for how outspoken they are in their support for LGBT+ causes. Like, not to do some big reach or something but it's fairly curious that gamers online are adopting the anti-LGBT+ sentiments while Bungie is aggressively supportive. It just rubs me the wrong way that the one company that's committed to this and has been for years before most other companies jumped on the bandwagon is the one that they're choosing to paint as the worst villain. And the LGBT+ support isn't even all, as Bungie has other initiatives where they actively support women's right, reproductive rights, poc rights, disability rights and so on). I don't know, I've been a part of the gaming community for a long time and while there's been massive changes since the early days (and since gamergate days), the issues of bigotry in gaming remain. It feels particularly suspicious to, out of ALL companies, single out Bungie which invests in charities and progressive causes. Like, in the grand scheme of things, every corpo is robbing me blind, I know that, I have to give money to corpos to live on this Earth, so I at least want to give it to a corpo that considers me to be a human being and funds causes that promote my rights, instead of wanting me dead.
Ironically, all of this weird hate makes it harder to have actual normal criticism. It just gets drowned and lost in the sea of exaggerated bullshit and lies and conspiracies perpetuated by people who just don't seem to like the game anymore. At the end of the day, it's a video game. Whatever criticism we have, if it gets to the point where we just can't handle the state of the game, the best way to show it is to simply stop playing. A deluge of harassment on twitter will not bring about meaningful change nor will it adequately convey our criticism to anyone. If they truly want some changes, they would do this criticism in a way that matters, instead of creating a horde of angry gamers who will latch onto every lie and create a hate bandwagon.
#destiny 2#bungie#long post#ask#i def agree with the premise of the ask btw. if that isn't clear#not all criticism is just meaningless rage#unfortunately it's harder than ever to parse through the bullshit to find it#and like. if this leads to less monetisation or something. sure. I'd like that too#but the methods being employed here are literally only hurting community managers devs and the community itself#the marketing board of execs at bungie who decided on monetisation aren't reading twitter comments#going at bungie won't solve the problems of capitalism#you gotta join a different cause to do that my working class siblings#check a discussion on the industry from thiccest_yosh on twitter (he's a bungie dev)#he specifically called out monetisation ruining art as well as misinformation and rage being spread by CCs#refreshing to see this being said directly and publicly by someone who works in the industry#and one more note on the bigotry stuff that made me bitter about aztecross and his stupid video the most#aztecross played supported and promoted hogshit legacy. this big 'anti-corpo warrior'#funding one of the biggest bigots in the world who actively works on trying to kill as many people as possible. totally fine i guess#'it's just a video game.' but with bungie it's life and death apparently#it makes me super bitter and suspicious. especially given how many CCs were in on misgendering characters#i dont trust any of these people. they're a business and when the business is bigotry they gladly participate

so people hate on your aspd c!tommy post mean while they have been calling c!dream a psychopath constantly? that doesn't make any sense, not to mention in canon and the ccs have called each other psychopaths cctommy said it, ccdreams said it. It was used in a negative connotation by them, and it was used in a neg connotation by so many c!dream haters.
These people talking behind your back just cherry pick what is ableist and what isn't
“that doesn’t make sense” being the operative phase lol… it’s not even a cherry pick, it’s just factually incorrect. I can’t be ableist against psychopaths, sociopaths or ASPD when it’s not even a widely recognized disability by the law or psychologists anyways, even if what I said was considered discrimination… not that I want to offend or cause harm or trigger anyone’s past trauma regardless. So, ableism or not, genuinely if what I said was hurting people I would have been happy to handle it in a reasonable way. I’m not here to make people upset, just enjoy my obsession and share things that I find interesting that maybe others will too. The last thing I want to do is add to the negative and hurtful space of the internet, that’s why I’ve tried my best to create a safe space of mutual respect. But see now, over a month later, after shit talking about me behind my back, it’s too late.
So to you anons in my inbox still trying to correct me - It’s Too Late. You had your chance to be reasonable. You had over 50 days since that post to treat me with the basic respect of a person. But see now, you ruined the chance for any meaningful or productive discussion on the topic. I’m done talking about it, especially when you clearly didn’t want my input on the matter to begin with and clearly don’t want to bother reading what I say anyways. You ruined it. Ruined the enjoyment, ruined the opportunity to discuss and meaningfully explore the stigmatization of sociopathy.

was talking about this in another server but. wow you are missing the point a bit if your problem with dream dming young fans stems from "minors and adults shouldnt be talking to each other and his age gap with those younger fans means they shouldnt have been interacting at all". intergenerational friendships are Healthy for you. it is perfectly okay for minors and adults to be friends, for there to be big age gaps in friendships.
whats wrong wasnt necessarily that dream was talking to young fans.. because he did it to an adult too. that was the point of the adult fan coming forth with evidence, to show that he was being inappropriate to fans even when they were adults. dreams behavior isnt disgusting because adults shouldnt interact with minors, its disgusting because he was making inappropriate comments towards them, allegedly being outright sexual and sending dick pics to them, because he was a creator being overly personal with young fans and that created an even bigger power dynamic than just an adult being gross to a teenager in private.
its because he kept these relationships hidden, put them through extra privacy when they could have just kept to twitter dms. he did it to at least one adult too, showing that for dream the power he has over his fans is whats more appealing for him. he has so much control over the situation that before he even commented on what happened his victims were getting harassed.
dont use this as a way to be against adults and minors interacting at all, thats how you get kids who will never trust the adults around them. its about how the adult interacts with the minor, and if they start adding more power to their power imbalance (or already have it) and use it, if they start making inappropriate comments or doing inappropriate things around them. if they start treating you like youre special, or someone they dont want people finding out they interact with in this way. if, when you act against them, they start acting dismissive and use their power over you to try and get you to be quiet about how they treated you.
its not inherently wrong to be friends with someone whose significantly older or younger than you. its about the contents and context of the relationship and how the older one exerts their power over the younger one. please do not simplify this complex issue down into "adults and minors shouldnt be interacting anyways". thats how you get minors who wont interact with anyone over 20 and 18yr olds who start insulting and acting better than younger teenagers as soon as they start believing theyre an Adult.
adults Should care for the children in their communities, they Should be encouraging figures and people who minors can go to when they need help from someone more experienced and older. they should be friendly to teenagers instead of awkwardly avoiding them all the time and never being around to teach them how an adult should act (especially with the increass of teenagers who come to the internet because the adults in their real life arent treating them right). stop acting like as soon as someone becomes an adult their life should turn into a No Minors zone. its about How the interactions go, How the adult acts around the minor, not the fact that theyre interacting at all

Hi hi, Luce!! ✨ I have some little questions about agency stuff! I might be a bit of a fool, but I wanted to ask what the voice distortion mechanisms in the comms system were for. Wouldn't CC want to confirm it's the agent in question speaking to them? And wouldn't the agents come into contact with CC members in-person in HQ anyways? I was also curious about what would happen if a civvie got caught up in maybe an operation gone-wrong. Sees things go down and all... Would they try to recruit? 🌻
Hi Daye!! Asking questions that in all honesty did not have a well thought out answer before, but! I can make it make sense <3
The voice distortion is optional, it's an additional security measure for agents who's civilian life may be a bit more public/ who just want to go the extra careful mile. For recognition there's still codes that regularly change that are used in lieu of greetings, because in a world with animatronics and also just general voice recordings, especially fast advancing voiced AI, just the voice wouldn't quite be enough to confirm their identity anyway!
For Field Agent Robin, they use it because they like feeling important and mysterious, and CC Robin is simply too terrified of messing up again, so they cover all their bases.
Dusk and Dawn in both cases are newbies and stick to the rules, especially since the agency is still kind of testing them, so they also go the extra mile!
They don't meet at HQ, the offices for field agents and the command center aren't quite in the same area, and Dusk/ Dawn as CC agents wouldn't really need to leave their post until their shift ends, and Robin is still just a recluse who simply doesn't mingle with other agents when they can avoid it. CC Robin even more so, given that they feel like they deserve better than CC but feeling slighted by other field agents.
For a civilian caught up during a mission fallout, well... It depends.
Is this a person of potential interest? Are they a witness to vital information? They may not get recruited per se, but will be brought in for questioning, debriefing, and then protection while conveniently legally binding them to a couple NDAs and ensuring that they don't have any evidence except their own memory. Their word against the agency is simply not a threat (:
Is this person someone who actively interfered on the agency's behalf, showing a decent talent for this kind of stuff beside their quick thinking? They might get recruited as a regular agent! They'll still have to go through training, and will have to sign even more NDAs, but they get a nice paying job and health insurance as a perk!
Is this someone who makes things actively more difficult for the agents on scene? Or someone who refuses to sign the NDAs? They, uh... They might be handled a bit roughly, actually. The agency is a private one and is not above illegal methods, though they're careful to not leave behind any evidence. They're not above ruining someone's entire credibility with planted scandals either, just in case someone decides to talk to the press, and hush money is something they're quite familiar with, though law enforcement is bribed more often than a random civilian (implications intended - police may not follow up on a "poor lunatics" claim of secret agencies and violent blackmail, whoops)
For witnesses to "harmless" things like simply an agent parkouring past, or rushing out of a definitely supposed to be locked building, often the consequence is nothing - it's a big city, and many people simply shrug and don't assume responsibility. Not their circus, not their monkeys. And so the agency remains in the shadows!
