An up-close reminder of why NOT to have your phone out on roller coasters. This is a whole CHUNK taken out of the lower wheel from Cheetah Hunt, caused by a cellphone that had been dropped on the track. Not only do you destroy your phone, but you can do some serious damage to the coaster itself! Damage like this requires the whole train to come off the track and be at least partially, if not entirely, disassembled. Cheetah Hunts maintenance is done in-house annually and as needed by Busch Gardens mechanics. Super grateful for what they do!

I have not been to a theme park and ridden a roller coaster since before the pandemic (so at least 4 years, maybe 5). And I really miss it.

2023 Antique Tractor Show Calendar
2023 Antique Tractor Show Calendar
Caveat About Tractor Shows This year I’m a little late putting together my antique tractor show calendar. Each year I start with this note to check and make sure that before hitting the road that the event is still happening. Events change, things happen, so don’t leave home without making sure the event is still taking place. Double check the time, and date in case there was an error on a…

Timezones in One Piece World
I am back with a physics post! Well, more meteorology/geography post!
I was inspired to create a timezone map after reading the newest chapter of Doflamingo's Marine by @moonbaby26 where a timezone difference was mentioned, which was a great detail! I remember thinking about timezones in OP world but never got around to it but I did now. So it made me wonder just what timezone is Dressrosa (my fav island 🤗) in, what timezone are the other islands in?
SO!
I pulled a grid of irl timezones, simplified it, and put it over the One Piece World Map! (You can see some parts where I was like, no keep it simple, simplify it).
HERE IT IS!
Tumblr media
UTC is coordinated universal time, aka time in the center of the world. Anyway, here are the islands + locations and I'll put some ANs for some cus some are interesting.
Paradise:
Reverse Mountain [UTC -1]
Red Line Center [UTC -1]
Twin Cape [UTC 0] Greenwhich Mean Time,
📍Iceland
I find it PERFECT the exit from Reverse Mountain into Grand Line are the ones in the center of the One Piece World, not the Red Line Itself.
Cactus Island [UTC 0] Western European Time (WET)
📍irl ex: Reykyavik, Iceland
Little Garden [UTC +1] Central European Time (CET)
📍 Italy, Spain
Drum Island [UTC +2] Eastern European Summer Time (EEST)
Alabasta [UTC +3] irl ex:
📍
Jaya [UTC +4]
Skypiea [UTC +4]
Long Ring Rong Island [UTC +5]
Water 7 [UTC +6]
Amazon Lily [UTC +7]
Enies Lobby [UTC +6]
Florian Triangle [UTC +9] Japan Standard Time
Sabaody Archipelago [UTC +10]
Impel Down [UTC +8]
Marineford [UTC +9] Japan Standard Time (JST)
Holy Land of Mariejois [UTC +9] New Zealand Standard Time
Fishman Island [UTC +10]
New World
New Marineford [UTC -8] Baker Island Time (BIT)
Punk Hazard [UTC -8] Samoa Standard Time (SST)
Dressrosa [UTC -7] Pacific Daylight Time
📍 Los Angeles
It used to be in Hawaii, it fit so much, whyyyy 😭😭
Totto Land [UTC -5] Eastern Standard Time
📍irl ex: Florida, U.S.
Wano Country [UTC -4]
📍irl ex:
Uf, I think that's all the big locations. I recommend using just the UTC and then you go minus or plus just so you don't have to go converting everything. The One Piece world most likely just says "Universal Time + (number)" or sth.
So, for example, if it's 17:00 (5 pm) in Marineford (UTC +9) on a Monday, it will then be 1 am on Monday in Dressrosa.
17 - 9 (to get UTC 0) = 8 am Monday (UTC 0)
Then another -7 hours, you get Monday 1 am (UTC -7) in Dressrosa. So Dressrosa is 16 HOURS behind Original Marineford.
Interesting how Doflamingo settled in Dressrosa, which is the entire 22 hours behind Holy Land by time, symbolising how his family abandoned the privileges of Celestial Dragons. Nice.
Also, for the Blues, regarding seasons:
North Blue & East Blue = North Hemisphere such as Europe & U.S. (winter months - December, January, February)
West Blue & South Blue - South Hemisphere (like Australia & New Zealand) so the winter months are June, July, August.
The seasons are interchangable in the Grand Line depending on the islands!

Visited Legoland (the former Cypress Gardens) today which means I've hit a majority of the extant central Florida theme parks and they had a model of the space center including a model of the Space Shuttle which actually recreates launches! The shuttle they have on the stack is Columbia, which you can tell by the black chines on the wings - it was the only orbiter to have them.
Their version of KSC has some age on it, which you can tell by the way they've set up the attractions in front of the VAB. A lot has changed since then!

1929 "Splendida" is a traditional Spanish home in Sarasota, Florida. 3bds, 3.5ba, $2.9M + $2mo. HOA.
Tumblr media
This elegant and ornate home will appeal to a very specific taste. The entrance hall is stone with columns and arches. The main stairs are off to the left of the front door, rather than central.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very large sitting room with a stone fireplace and direct entrance to the kitchen. 3 doors open to a terrace.
Tumblr media
Not sure if the sideboard on the right is a built-in. Other than that, the dining room is fairly plain but has a door to an enclosed porch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The large eat-in kitchen was redone with creamy white cabinetry and a black & white tile backsplash to tie in with the black granite counters.
Tumblr media
Cute little dinette with 2 built-ins
Tumblr media
This is interesting.
Tumblr media
Hmmm, this looks like an elevator, but is that a prayer bench?
Tumblr media
Like the mural. It brightens up the space.

The primary bedroom with closet and en-suite.
Tumblr media
This is a nice bedroom, it has a cottage garden feel.
Tumblr media
Original bath. This is great, it looks art deco.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The house has some nice terraces, a screened porch and a patio.

June Garden Floral Surprises In Central Florida
I live in Central Florida, growing zone 9B which is semi-tropical. Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. Amaryllis sold at Christmas are FORCED bulbs.

Scorpion — This old gal is 44! The oldest roller coaster at Busch Gardens Tampa opened in 1980 and was manufactured by Anton Schwarzkopf. Just because it's the oldest at the park, doesn't mean it's the first! Scorpion was the second coaster to debut at the park, and is only 1 of 3 Silver Arrow model coasters built by Schwarzkopf, and is the only permanent one. The roller coaster runs at 41 mph, and is just under 61 feet at it's tallest point. It has a lot of force packed into such a small layout, you'd think it's a kids coaster but it proves you wrong!

BOTD: Spot-breasted Oriole
Tumblr media
Photo: Ryan Mandelbaum
"Native to southwestern Mexico and Central America and sometimes kept as a cagebird, this large oriole apparently escaped from captivity in the Miami area in the late 1940s. The suburbs of southern Florida, with their gardens of exotic plants, provided a suitable habitat for some tropical birds, so the Spot-breasted Oriole thrived there. Its numbers have been hurt occasionally by exceptionally cold winters, but it is currently doing well in some areas between Miami and West Palm Beach."

Moth of the Week
Southern Flannel Moth
Megalopyge opercularis
Tumblr media
The southern flannel moth is a part of the family Megalopygidae, the family of flannel moths or crinkled flannel moths. It was described by Sir James Edward Smith in 1797. They get the name “flannel moth” from being covered in setae, hair like bristles that give them a fuzzy, soft look.
Description Adult moths have round, hairy bodies ranging in coloration from cream at the bottom to yellow or light brown at the head. It’s legs are the same brown as the body with black feet. The forewings fade from a darker brown to cream with black/dark brown at the top edge or “costal margin.” The outer margin is white and the middle of the forewings have white patterning. The hindwings are fully cream or have a similar gradient. The antennae of females are thin and white, while males have feathery yellow antennae. Males and females may have differing coloration. Females are larger than males.
The caterpillars are known for their long stinging hairs and their unusual amount of prolegs. Flannel moth caterpillars have 7 pairs of prolegs, while all other butterfly and moth caterpillars have 5 or fewer.
Average wingspan: 30 mm (≈1.18 in)
Diet and Habitat This species live on oak, elm, and wild plum as well as many garden plants such as roses and ivy. Adult moths do not feed.
It’s distributed across the eastern United States/Gulf Coast. They range from New Jersey to Florida and west to Arkansas and Texas. It is common in Florida but reaches its greatest abundance in Texas. They can reach further south to Mexico and Central America. They are commonly found in wooded areas like deciduous forests but can also be found in urban and suburban gardens.
Mating This moths has 2 generations per year, one in the summer and one in the fall. Late larvae may overwinter in their cocoon and emerge in late spring. Females usually mate the night of they leave their cocoons and lay their eggs during the first two nights following mating. Eggs are laid in single or double curved rows and occasionally in patches on foliage or small twigs and are covered with hair from the under side of the female to protect them. Eggs hatch in six to eight days.
Predators Observations of this moth’s predators is lacking, but there are a few reports of lacewing feeding on their eggs and a lizard eating a later instar. It is assumed they are preyed on by other common predators of moths like birds, bats, praying mantises, lady beetles, and ants. At least four species of tachinid flies and two species of ichneumonid wasp have been reported to parasitize the flannel moth larva. The caterpillar protects itself with long venomous spines. When touched they cause severe skin irritation, described as like a broken bone or blunt-force trauma, or even white hot. The reaction tends to spread:
“The reactions are sometimes localized to the affected area, but are often very severe, radiating up a limb and causing burning, swelling, nausea, headache, abdominal distress, rashes, blisters, and sometimes chest pain, numbness, or difficulty breathing. Sweating from the welts or hives at the site of the sting is not unusual.”
Fun Fact The caterpillars are covered in long setae, making it resemble a tiny Persian cat, which is where it is assumed the name "puss" comes from. Some of the many names for the larva include: puss caterpillar, asp, Italian asp, fire caterpillar, woolly slug, opossum bug, puss moth, tree asp, and asp caterpillar.
