What is the reason for modern aircraft not using swept back wings like the F-14 Tomcat?
The main reason modern aircraft do not use swept-back wings like the F-14 is due to the advancements in aerodynamics and materials science. Swept-back wings were initially developed to delay the onset of shock waves and reduce drag at transonic and supersonic speeds.
While this design was effective for the F-14, it came with trade-offs, particularly in terms of complexity and weight. The variable-sweep mechanism added significant weight and maintenance requirements, which are less desirable in today's cost-conscious and efficiency-driven aviation industry.
Also, modern aircraft benefit from advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel testing, allowing engineers to optimize wing shapes for specific performance criteria without relying on variable-sweep designs. This has led to the development of more efficient fixed-wing designs that can achieve similar or even superior performance across a broader range of speeds. For example, the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II utilize fixed-wing designs with advanced aerodynamics and stealth capabilities, making them highly effective in modern combat scenarios.
Modern fighter jets are designed to be multi-role platforms, capable of performing a wide range of missions from air superiority to ground attack. This versatility demands a design that can perform well in various flight regimes, from low-speed, high-angle-of-attack maneuvers to high-speed intercepts. Fixed-wing designs, coupled with advanced flight control systems, provide the necessary performance and flexibility without the added complexity of variable-sweep wings.
The emphasis on stealth technology in modern military aviation has influenced wing design. Swept-back wings, while beneficial for high-speed flight, can create larger radar cross-sections, making the aircraft more detectable. Modern stealth aircraft are designed with smooth, continuous surfaces and internal weapon bays to minimize raddar signatures, which is more easily achieved with fixed-wing designs.

Brettsey and “You say you hate it but your red face is telling me otherwise.”
This prompt looked interesting!
Okay, honestly, this one was a bit challenging 😅 but hey, I tried my best.
Matt shuffles Julia in his arms as he makes an attempt to grab her bottle from the kitchen table. She coos softly, resting her cheek against his chest. He grins down at her. He loved how she did that every so often, like she liked listening to his heartbeat. He kisses the top of her head earning another soft coo followed by some drool on his shirt.
He glances down at the baby again resisting a groan. He had just changed an hour ago since Julia decided to fling some mashed sweet potato at him during breakfast.
Julia looks up at him with her big, blue eyes and he melts. He could never be mad at her - she was his sweet Julia, light of his life and one of the best things to have ever happened to him.
As he grabs hold of the bottle, his eyes catch something else on the table. It's a letter with the CFD logo on the upper right side. His curiosity gets the better of him. He rearranges Julia again in his arms before taking a seat. He reads the letter slowly while feeding the baby her milk.
For a second, he feels guilty but it wasn't snooping if it was lying there out in the open, right?
His eyebrows shoot up as he continues to read. It's a commendation letter for Sylvie for kickstarting Paramedicine. It mentioned she was going to be honored at the CFD gala in two weeks. He smiles. It was a long overdue recognition in his opinion. Sylvie's program has done wonders for the city of Chicago by making sure CFD paramedics were directed to emergencies while still providing care to other residents with non-life threatening emergencies. It amazed him on a near daily basis, even more so when he decided to ride along with her for a shift. He really felt how many people Sylvie helped out and saved.
"Your mom's a brilliant woman, Jules," he whispers at the baby.
She blinks up at him, one hand still on her half empty bottle.
He grins at her, looking up as the door clicks open.
"Hey," Sylvie greets, smiling warmly at Matt and Julia when she spots them in the kitchen.
She had a bag of groceries in her arms, beginning to explain how she got some banana and strawberries they could make Julia try since she recently started on solids.
He raises an eyebrow at her. Clearly, she wasn't going to tell him about the commendation. Come to think of it, she didn't even mention it when he asked last night if she wanted him to take anything to the dry cleaners in time for the event.
"What?" she questions at the strange look on his face.
"You're getting a commendation, Sylvie," he tells her, pointing to the letter, "we should go out and celebrate."
She laughs, shrugging it off, "oh that - it's not a big deal. You know how I hate being the center of attention."
He truly did.
They were alike in that sense. Both of them did their jobs because they loved it not because they were chasing after recognition and awards. They kept their heads down and did the work but Sylvie deserved to be celebrated. An idea forms in his head. He'll probably have a lot of help planning and executing it but thankfully, he could still count on his 51 family. Ben and Griffin were definitely going to help too.
He gets up just as Julia finishes her bottle. He re-places it on the table, cradling Julia close before walking over to Sylvie.
"Okay - nothing big then," he proposes, "maybe dinner one of these days?"
She smiles at him, leaning close to kiss Julia on the cheek.
"Sure," she agrees, "dinner sounds wonderful."
---
A lot of coordination goes into planning Sylvie's big celebration. Herrmann and Mouch agree to have it at Molly's. All of Sylvie's close friends were coming and more importantly, her parents. He called them the day after he found the letter, explaining how Sylvie was getting this big award. They laughed when he told him how she didn't want a huge celebration, saying it sounded exactly like their daughter. They would be flying in from Indiana, eager to spend more time with the whole family, especially with little Julia.
He had it all accounted for, even making a spreadsheet like the one Sylvie had for their wedding. He kind of understood why she liked them so much but hoped he rarely needed to bust them out ever. They were more of her thing anyway.
What he didn't expect would be a challenge was getting Sylvie to Molly's. They were there most of their nights off but tonight, Sylvie seemed to want to stay at home, cuddling on the couch with Julia while watching an old rom com she loved.
He lets out of breath, thinking of an excuse, any excuse really for them to go. He already arranged for Griffin to take Sylvie's car fitted with the car seat to bring Julia to Molly's after they left. He grumbles when he gets a text from Stella asking where they were, clenching and unclenching his fist.
"What's going on, Matt?" Sylvie asks, having tuned into his anxious energy.
He sighs. He really wants to keep it a secret but all of it was going down the drain if he didn't get her to the bar fast.
Screw it. Some things were meant to be spoiled. It’s for the best.
"Everyone's waiting for us at Molly's."
She raises an eyebrow, "what do you mean?"
"I planned something for you tonight to celebrate your award," he admits.
"Matt -" she begins, eyes going wide, face reddening.
It didn't look like she was angry, maybe more embarrassed that he made a really big deal out of her award. He sees her expression change to one of surprise then wonder.
"You say you hate it but your red face is telling me otherwise," he starts out hopefully. "I just really wanted this chance to celebrate you and all the good things you've done for this city. I hope you're not mad."
She smiles at him before biting down on her lower lip, "I'm not mad."
"No?"
She shakes her head, "it's incredibly sweet of you to do that - unnecessary but incredibly sweet."
He walks over to her, sitting close to her on the couch, "it is always necessary to celebrate you. In fact, we should make that a rule - celebrations are mandatory in this family."
He tickles Julia, "am I right, munchkin?"
Julia giggles happily. He beams.
"She agrees with me," he says proudly.
She lets out a tinkling laugh, shaking her head again.
"I love you," she tells him.
He smiles widely. There was a time when he thought he'd never hear her say that to him ever again. He savors it every time she tells him this, always saying it back.
"I love you too."
He leans in to place a soft kiss on her lips before taking Julia from her.
"Come on, Jules - we need to get ready for Mommy's big party," he says as the baby coos.
Sylvie smiles at him, pinching the baby's cheek lightly, earning a squeal from Julia.
He glances back towards her, "can I ask that you act surprised later? They all put in a lot of effort."
"I can try," she tells him, "but I'm not a very good actress."
They both burst out laughing. It was true but Matt didn't think anyone would notice anyway. He didn't tell her that her parents were coming too so there was still some element of surprise left in the night, one he hopes would be a special and memorable one for Sylvie.
#brettsey#drabbles#last prompt done!#I know the ending is kind of abrupt but felt like a good place to end#I am definitely a rusty writer haha

Hostage Situation
Read on AO3 here.
Jay gets out of the car, looking over the house.
“Why don’t you go around back?” Al suggests.
He nods, ghosting around behind the building to take a post by the back door.
“In position.”
Thirty seconds later a loud boom shakes the building.
“Al? You okay?”
No response.
“Al?”
He jogs around the building, seeing smoke billowing up from the blasted out front door.
But his partner isn’t lying on the grass like he would have expected.
“Al!” he shouts, lifting his radio. “5021 George. I need Bomb Squad and CFD at 1641 W Bellview Avenue. Explosion, possible additional explosives, possible fire.”
He spots a drag pattern, coated with blood, across the grass toward the front door. Drawing his weapon, he starts to move toward the front door.
He gets close, sees Al lying on the floor with his eyes closed and then a man is stepping into his face with a weapon raised.
Another man behind him has a weapon pointed at Al’s head.
“Who are you?” he demands.
“Not important Detective.” the man says. “We’ve got some demands but I’m guessing you aren’t the man to help with that so why don’t you get your ass back and get ahold of someone who can.”
“Okay.” Jay says, stepping back and holstering his weapon. “Okay. But I need to know what kind of condition my guy is in.”
“He’s alive.” the man tells him. “That’s all you need to know.”
Jay shakes his head, taking another step back and peering past the man.
“I need stable enough to wait.” he presses. “Or SWAT will be hitting this door full blast and soon.”
The man takes a small step to the side, motioning him forward. As he reaches the threshold, a gun settles against the side of his head.
There’s blood on the side of Al’s head, burns scattered across his face and chest and his right leg is bleeding heavily from some kind of puncture wound.
Reluctantly, Jay steps back.
Al will hold for a minute. He needs to get the rest of the cavalry rolling before he does anything crazy.
He steps back, nodding stiffly to the man next to him and then retreating down the steps.
“5021 George. Need an HRT team at my location. I have an officer down, being held hostage. Need paramedics on standby.”
He pulls out his phone, hitting a speed dial.
“Voight. We have a situation.”
“Yeah, I’m hearing the calls over the wire. We’re on the way there. Where’s Al?”
“In the house.” Jay says. “Front door blew, probably when he knocked. He’s hurt but they wouldn’t let me in the house.”
“They tell you about demands?” Voight asks.
“He wouldn’t tell me.” Jay says. “Wanted someone with more authority.”
“Alright.” Voight agrees. “Don’t do anything stupid.”
“I have to Sarge.” Jay says.
“Halstead.”
“Al’s leg is bleeding bad and with the head injury, he can’t get the tourniquet on himself.” Jay argues. “I have to get in there.”
“Jay.”
“Al needs me to do something stupid.” he says, hanging up the phone.
He jogs back to the truck, stripping the rest of his gear, locking his gun in his safe and grabbing the first aid kit.
Then he heads back up to the door. The men have pushed a bookshelf across the door frame.
“Hey.” he shouts, banging on the back of it.
“If you ain’t brought a negotiator, I don’t want to hear it!” the guy shouts back.
“Yeah. You really do.” Jay says. “Cause my guy in there is losing a lot of blood and if you don’t let me come in and provide aid then what I was saying earlier about SWAT is still gonna be your problem. And I probably won’t like how it ends up but I promise you that you won’t either.”
He stands there, listening while they debate for a moment.
“It’s either me with no weapon, just a first aid kit or an entire SWAT team.” Jay calls back. “And you’re running out of time.”
The bookshelf slides aside just enough to allow Jay to squeeze into the house.
He stands, hands up while they pat him down.
Al’s head falls toward him, eyes blinking sluggishly and its almost impossible to wait for the men to give him the go ahead before dropping to his knees.
He slips the tourniquet around his friend’s thigh, tightening it down and then starting to twist the windlass rod.
Al groans but he doesn’t stop.
“Sorry man.” he whispers. “I gotta do this.”
Once he’s got it as tight as he needs, he locks it into place. Then he shifts his attention to Al’s head.
He checks pupil response with the penlight in the kit and then uses wipes to clean up some of the blood so he can get a look at the gash.
“You know we’re on a time limit with this tourniquet.” he comments as he works. “If they don’t get him to the hospital soon, he might lose the leg.”
It isn’t really true. They’ve learned in the Middle East that blood flow can be re-established and the limb saved after as much as twenty four hours.
But these assholes don’t need to know that.
“We aren’t letting him go.” the man snaps behind him.
“Why not?” Jay asks, turning to look the man in the eye. “I’m here. You’ve still got a hostage to get whatever it is that you want. Let me get him some help.”
The man stares back, gritting his teeth and then nodding.
“Move the shelf.” he orders his friend.
Two more men, one of them the target that they’d been here to arrest, walk into the room at the front of the house, hefting rifles.
The second man that’s he’s been talking to glares at him and then moves, pushing the bookshelf out of the way.
Jay reluctantly hooks Al under the arms, dragging him toward the door.
A gun settles against his head again and he tries to ignore it. He gets Al onto the porch and then sirens are filling the air.
“Drop him.” the man covering him orders, digging the gun into his skull.
He lowers Al to the porch, raising his hands.
“Back inside.”
“Okay. Okay.” Jay says, taking a step back.
Before he can even think about starting a fight, a gun goes off nearby and he looks down in horror to see a bullet hole in the wood of the porch next to Al’s head.
“Don’t you try anything.” the man hisses in his ear.
Jay looks up at the sea of lights turning the corner and then backs into the house.
The bookshelf is pushed back across the door.
“Hands behind your back.”
Jay moves his hands into place.
“My name is Jay Halstead.” he says, making eye contact with the man who is obviously in charge and trying to ignore the movement that he can feel behind him. “Is there something I can call you?”
“You can call me shut the hell up.” the man snaps.
He offers a single nod, looking down.
Zip ties are slid over his wrists and pulled tight.
At least Al is going to be okay.
HRT is already on scene when Voight pulls up. He hurries toward the command vehicle but stops when he sees activity at the rear of the ambulance.
Moving that way, he sees Al lying on a stretcher while two paramedics work on him.
“He okay?” he asks.
“I think he will be.” Sylvie tells him. “But whoever applied this tourniquet saved his life. He would have bled out otherwise.”
Which explains why Jay had been so insistent on doing something stupid.
He pats Al’s arm, nodding to Sylvie and then continuing toward the command vehicle.
“Commander Hixson.” he says, climbing in to the back. “We made contact yet?”
“I’ve been calling your Detective’s phone. It’s not in his truck with the rest of his gear so we can only assume it’s on his person. They haven’t answered yet.” Hixson answers. “Olinsky going to be okay?”
“The paramedics think so.” Voight says.
“What can you tell me about what they were here for?”
“Tyler Michels.” Voight tells him. “Person of interest in a drug case Intelligence is working. Halstead and Olinsky were here to pick him up.”
“Any ideas on demands?”
“When I talked to Halstead he said they had something in mind but wanted to wait for someone with more authority.” Voight says. “So I’m guessing they’ll pick up that call before too much longer.”
“We’ll keep try –”
“Commander they picked up.” one of the techs calls and he steps back, sliding the handset over his head.
“This is Commander Jason Hixson of the Chicago Police Department.” he says. “Who am I speaking to?”
“You can call me Tony.” the man says. “There is a flash drive that was taken into evidence by the Intelligence team. I want it back. Along with two million dollars in cash and safe passage.”
“Alright.” Hixson says. “We can work on that. I’d like to speak to Detective Halstead.”
“Maybe later.” Tony says. “I’ll let you get to work.”
The line goes dead.
“What can you tell me about the flash drive?” Hixson asks.
“We pulled it off a body yesterday.” Voight says. “Tech didn’t get anything other than gibberish off it.”
“Encrypted.” Hixson says and Voight nods.
“I’ll call someone on my team.” he says. “Get it brought over.”
“I’ll put in the request for the 1505 funds.” Hixon agrees. “We’ll get him out of there.”
Voight nods.
Jay watches as Tony hangs up the phone.
He’s on his knees, a gun to the back of his head in case he gets any ideas about trying to participate in the phone call.
Tony turns and walks toward him.
“We’ll need to provide proof of life next time they call.” he tells the others. “Let’s get him ready.”
Ready?
Tyler grabs his arm and tows him to his feet. He’s led deeper into the house to where a hallway runs along the stairs.
He’s shoved up onto a step stool. Hears one of the men running up the stairs.
“What the hell is this?” he demands.
His wrists are cut free and his arms shoved up above his head. The man on the stairs reaches down to continue pulling them up, re-securing them around the railing using rope this time.
“See those X’s on the wall?” Tony asks, pointing to the wall across from him where ten x’s have been marked on the wall with painter’s tape.
“Yeah.” he says slowly.
Tony steps back out of the hallway, holding up a small remote.
“When I press a button.” the man says with a smirk, pressing the button.
The explosion is a hundred times smaller than the one that had thrown Al down the front steps and across the lawn but it still sends shrapnel, wood fragments of various sizes, flying toward him.
Several of them embed themselves in him and he grimaces, twisting his wrists in the loops of rope.
“A couple of the charges are bigger than that.” the man tells him, stepping back into the hall. “If the negotiators get me what I need quickly, you might not have to feel any of those. But for now, you can just hang out.”
Then he’s kicking the stool out from under Jay’s feet and all of his weight abruptly drops onto his wrists.
He cries out as he feels something crack but locks his jaw, biting off any sound.
And then he’s left alone.
He doesn’t know how long he hangs there before Tony comes back around the corner with his phone in hand.
“Why don’t you tell Commander Hixson that you’re still alive.” he says, holding it up.
Jay can see the SWAT team leader on the screen, Voight hovering behind him.
“I’m fine.” he says. “Al okay?”
“Detective Olinsky is expected to make a full recovery.” Hixson tells him. “Have they hurt you?”
Tony holds up the remote and Jay can’t help but grimace.
Another charge goes off. It’s one of the larger ones that Tony had mentioned earlier and sends much larger shrapnel flying his way.
One particularly large scrap of wood embeds itself in his leg and he winces but manages not to cry out.
“You have three hours to get me my money.” Tony says. “For every twenty minutes that you do not, a charge will be detonated and Detective Halstead risks being injured. Should you reach the three hour mark without my demands being met, I will detonate one final charge placed in the wall behind your Detective. I can assure you, he will not survive its detonation.”
He ends the call before they can say anything, turning his attention back to Jay.
“That one got you good didn’t it?” he says with a chuckle as he examines the wood sticking out of Jay’s leg and the blood seeping into his pants.
“This isn’t a good idea.” Jay says. “You’re just asking for them to abandon negotiations and turn to a tactical answer.”
“If they do.” Tony says, glaring at him. “I’ll detonate that last charge and kill you.”
“And you’ll get nothing.” Jay snaps.
“See you in eighteen minutes.” Tony says, patting his cheek condescendingly.
Over the next two hours, another six charges are detonated.
For the most part they’ve been small, littering Jay’s frame with small cuts and scrapes.
But the last one, the eighth overall, sends another large shard that catches him in the chest, driving deep into his skin at the base of his ribs.
Jay can’t help but scream as it impacts, yanking hard against the ropes securing his wrists as he attempt to cover the injury.
Tony paces closer, holding the phone up to make sure the negotiator can see the injury.
“Oh that’s not good, huh?” he says, not sounding worried. “Seems like you might need to pick up the pace on my money, Commander. How long do you think he’ll last like this?”
Jay swings up slightly, kicking the phone out of the man’s hand.
Both pieces of wood that have made themselves home in his body are jostled by the movement and he gasps, closing his eyes as he tries to breathe through the pain.
Tony gets right up in his face, hand closing around his throat.
“Bet you think you’re real tough, don’t you?” he hisses.
Jay couldn’t answer if he wanted to; gasping and choking for air. Searing pain is shooting through his torso and he’s pretty sure the man has jostled the wood, probably accelerating the bleeding.
He can hear Hixson’s voice from his phone, the man shouting for Tony to return to the conversation.
“You are a hostage.” Tony hisses. “Your job is to shut the hell up and wait to see if you get to go home alive today.”
His head is slammed back against the wall and then Tony lets go and walks over to pick up the phone.
“My apologies for the distraction.” he says. “The detective and I had something to discuss.”
He faces the screen back toward Jay so the negotiator can see that he’s still alive and relatively intact.
Jay’s head is hanging low to his chest but he forces it up to look at them.
“We’ll be back in, oh about ten minutes.” Tony says, smirking at him and ending the call.
It can’t be more than five minutes before a loud crash echoes through the house and Tony scrambles for his remote, hitting a button.
Nothing happens.
He curses and hits it again and then again and then armored SWAT officers are rounding the corner and knocking it out of his hand.
As he’s taken into custody, Voight appears and rushes up to Jay.
“Easy kid.” he says as Jay tugs on the ropes. “We’ll get you down. How you doing?”
“Tired.” Jay says as Hixson rights the stool and slides it back under his feet, taking the weight off his arms.
Voight reaches up with a knife, cutting the ropes. Jay tries to stay upright but instantly collapses forward.
“Woah.” Voight says, dropping the knife and catching him. “I got you.”
“He’s lost a lot of blood.” Hixson comments as he helps him lower Jay to the ground. “I’ll get a tourniquet on his leg.”
“Al really okay?” Jay asks.
“Got out of surgery five minutes ago.” Voight tells him. “Already chewed out a nurse.”
Jay cracks a smile and Voight looks down, tearing the younger man’s shirt open to get a look at his injury.
“Sorry I was stupid.”
“It’s okay.” Voight tells him. “Sylvie says you probably saved Al’s life so I guess you were right, he did need you to be stupid.”
“What about Sylvie?” a voice says and Voight looks up to see the paramedics hurrying up.
“Just telling him you said he did good with that tourniquet.” Voight says.
“Really good.” Sylvie agrees. “Now lets get you taken care of, huh?”
Jay’s eyes slip closed. Voight is quick to order him to open them and he tries but he can’t seem to fight the pull of the darkness.
He wakes up to beeping.
He’s really tired of the beeping. Maybe next time he gets hurt Will can silence the monitors. They work just as well without broadcasting his heart rate to the whole room, right?
Will would probably just tell him not to get hurt again if he doesn’t want to hear the beeping.
He pries his eyes open, looking down to see red hair on the mattress.
“Will.” he croaks, shocked by how weak his own voice sounds.
His brother shoots upright, staring at him with wide eyes.
“Jay.” he manages after a moment. “Hey. You’re awake.”
“Yeah.” he says. “Can I…”
Will is already picking up a glass of water and bringing the straw to his lips.
He takes a few sips before dropping his head back.
“Thanks.”
Will glances at his watch before grabbing his phone.
“Al doing okay?” Jay asks.
“Chomping at the bit to get out of here.” Will says with a smile as he types something. “Actually you have good timing. They’re just getting ready to sign him out. I’m texting Voight to let him know you’re awake so they can stop by on their way out.”
“How long was I out?” Jay asks.
“It’s been a little over two days.” Will says, setting his phone aside and reaching up to brush his fingers through Jay’s hair. “I was starting to get worried.”
“Sorry.” Jay whispers.
“It’s okay.” Will tells him. “You lost a lot of blood.”
“He… he moved the one in my stomach.” Jay says.
“Yeah.” Will agrees. “Marcel said it looked like the wood had been moved around. Didn’t help that it hit your liver. But they patched everything up, last transfusion started an hour ago so you’re going to be okay. Just need to rest.”
Jay nods.
A wheelchair rounds the corner and he looks up to see Voight pushing Al into his room.
“Hey guys.”
“Good to see you awake, kid.” Al says looking him over. “So what’s up? You can’t let someone else have the hospital stay for once?”
Jay grins tiredly.
“You know me.” he says. “Don’t like to share the attention.”
Al chuckles.
“Thanks kid.” he says, reaching out to squeeze Jay’s arm.
“Anytime.” Jay says seriously.
“Well I’d appreciate it if you could both avoid explosions for a few weeks.” Voight chimes in and Will nods.
“Amen to that.”
Jay and Al roll their eyes.
“Brothers.” Jay retorts and Al chuckles.
“I need to get this one home.” Voight says, shaking his head at them. “Get some rest, Jay.”
Jay nods, offering a wave as they leave. And then Will is brushing his fingers through his hair again.
“Go back to sleep, Jay.” he says softly. “I’ll be here when you wake up.”
He’s exhausted and his brother’s ministrations are soothing so Jay doesn’t argue, closing his eyes and letting himself drift back to dreamland.

DP2 - Wandering Earth
Week 9:
I worked on producing a CFD model for the market stall I designed previously and started exploring using trace lines of the wind flows to develop a structure or scaffolding for the gardens I am designing. I should put more wind deflectors and keep experimenting with the CFD model now to investigate the effect of wind flow on ventilation, air circulation and occupants experience.
I also drew a contour map of the site showing the gardens are located on the more busy corner of the site to more effectively draw people into the Wandering Earth gardens. The warehouses on the east side also makes it easier to transport supplies to the gardens. Being slightly rotated to the west provides the gardens a better angle to deal with the prevailing wind.
I started thinking how the spaces can be arranged vertically by using a more abstract method, but now I need to create a set of rules of how spaces are arranged. I should consider the most fundamental but crucial factors including light, heat, wind, water and material and how they impact my spatial arrangement. For example the market stall shields the wind so a negative pressure zone may be created behind it and how this phenomenon can strategically impact the spaces around it (Reference to Smell). I need to demonstrate my capability in designing a structural system and services systems in the set of drawings for January.

Breaking Down Walls 🩵🩷
Kelly and Stella meeting for first time at the academy. Fast feelings develop.
Stella Kidd had a rough childhood. She had lost her parents as a young child. Bounced around from foster homes. Never had a direction in life. No one to ever show her love, no one to ever provide guidance. When Stella became a adult, she was just existing. Surrounding herself with the wrong people. After, she was involved in a serious car accident and was pulled to safety by rescue squad firefighters, that was the moment she knew how she wanted to live the rest of her life. Stella Kidd wanted to become a firefighter and was going to make it happen no matter how hard the road was. Changing her life and ways was easier than she had thought it ever would be. Stella had passed all the preliminary exams and was accepted into the fire academy. During the time at the academy, she was a top candidate. A force to not be reckoned with. Being a female in a male dominated profession was never easy but Stella made it look easy. Excelling from the beginning. Schooling many of the male candidates. There was no doubt she was going to make a excellent fire fighter. Stella had one priority in her life, only one and that was to become a firefighter with the CFD. A social life of any kind was never on Stella’s radar. She didn’t want any distractions. Stella had built many walls up. Given her past, she had been burned many times before. When she was most vulnerable, men in her life especially had taken advantage of her. Only people Stella trusted was herself, trusting others did not come easy. Through the academy she had to work on that. As a firefighter she was going to have to trust others, work as a team. When lives were on the line, Stella needed to be able to have trust in her team. As for trusting anyone in her personal life, that was going to be something that would take much more work. The walls that were up probably would never come down. When a handsome, lieutenant started teaching a class at the academy. He was intriguing to her. Piercing blue eyes. Stella forgetting about him. She had one goal in her life and nothing was going to get in the way of that. Little did she know that would be something that was easier said than done.
Lieutenant Kelly Severide was a ladies man. He never really believed in monogamy. This stems from his upbringing as well. Watching his dad, Benny Severide hurting his mom over and over. Affairs with other women, leaving his mom in shambles time after time. Benny was a excellent fire investigator and was at the top of the CFD. Extremely well respected. Was a icon in the department. Everyone knew Benny as a shining star. Kelly knew two different people. He knew what a star his dad was in the CFD and Kelly had followed in his dads footsteps. Kelly had also become a star in the CFD. It was in his genes, being born into this profession. Kelly also excelling as a squad lieutenant. BUT he also knew the man his dad was in his personal life. Not a star. Leaving his family broken time after time, alone and Kelly having to pick up the pieces over and over. Kelly NEVER was going to follow in his dad footsteps in that way. He was never going to wreck his family the way his dad did. Unfortunately, Kelly was convinced he would eventually hurt any woman he became serious with. Just like his father. Always keeping things causal with any woman he met ensured there was no chance of causing destruction. It had worked this far. That is until he was teaching a class at the academy and came across a new candidate that had changed everything.
Kelly had observed Stella Kidd. She was a force. A fighter. This woman was a absolute warrior. Watching her demolish everyone in her class. Kelly thought, Wow, just Wow. Not only was he impressed with her skills. She was breathtakingly gorgeous. Those beautiful big, brown eyes. Caramel, perfect skin and that dark, curly hair. This woman had hit Kelly to the core and he hadn’t even talked to her. Kelly had never had this feeling before. He had butterflies. His heart was racing even just staring at her. Feeling like a lovesick teenager, he couldn’t even manage to start a conversation with her. Kelly never had a problem talking to women. Talking to women was like breathing for him but Stella was different. His legs wouldn’t move at the thought of walking up to her to start a conversation. That night he went home to his best friend Shay, who he lived with. He was perplexed. Not able to stop thinking of Stella. Shay knew her best friend very well. She knew something was on his mind. As they sat on the couch together, watching a hawks game.
“What’s going on with you? How was the academy? What’s going on?”
“Errr. Nothing. I’m fine”
“Bull shit. Your my best friend, I know when something is bothering you. You can’t pull this guy routine on me. So spill”
“Fine. While I was at the academy, I came across this new candidate”
“Knowing you. I’m assuming this candidate is of the female variety”
“Yes Shay but she’s different. I can’t even describe this feeling. I wasn’t able to even talk to her. My body was frozen in time. All I could do was just stare at her”
“WHAT!?! The great ladies man, Kelly Severide couldn’t talk to a woman. Has hell frozen over?”
“Very funny, Shay. But accurate. She has given me feelings I never thought I could ever feel. Not only is she a force. Schooling all the men in her class. She is drop dead gorgeous. So confident. I watched her for a couple hours and was absolutely stunned. Everything about this woman is. WOW. Just WOW.”
“Well this is quite a development. Never thought I would see this day come. First things first, you need to talk to her. Second, I need to meet this woman. This woman might be a miracle worker to captivate you. All the women haven’t been able to break down the Fort Knox walls you have put up but sounds like this women might be the breaker. Put on your big boy pants and TALK TO HER”
Next day at the academy. All the candidates were on their lunch break. Kelly knew it was now or never. Stella was having her lunch alone. This was his chance. As he approached the table she was sitting at.
“Hi There. This might be a little forward but I was watching you. You are a force. Only woman in your class and are schooling all these men. I’m impressed.”
“Ahhh. Thank you”
“My name is Kelly Severide”
“Nice to meet you, Kelly. My name is Stella Kidd”
“Are you a instructor?”
“I’m actually a squad lieutenant at 51. I teach squad sessions here from time to time”
“Ohhh. That’s awesome. You must be quite a lieutenant”
“I guess so”
“Well I better get back to my class now. It was great to meet you Kelly”
“You too, Stella. I hope to see you again”
Kelly was pacing in the academy offices. The classes had all finished for the day. He was kicking himself he never asked her out. Not even getting her phone number. ‘I’m such a idiot’. Kelly knew there was one way to contact her again. It was probably crossing a line and invading all sorts of privacy laws. ‘It was worth it’. Kelly found her file and scanned her contact information.
Stella was at home relaxing after a long day at the academy. She heard a knock on her door. Weird. She didn’t have many friends and no family in Chicago, not to mention no one knew where she lived. As she got up and looked through her peep hole. ‘What the heck’. As her eyes locked on the squad lieutenant she had noticed for days. They had a brief conversation earlier in the day but it was only small talk. Why was he at her place?. This would normally be very weird and even a little scary but Stella just felt happy. As she opened the door. There was Kelly standing there with flowers and champagne. As Stella’s eyes widened, her heart was racing. Was this actually happening? All she could do was smile from ear to ear.
“Hey Stella. I know this is really weird and I really hope this isn’t entirely creepy. But I needed to see you”
“Ummm. I’m not even gonna ask how you got my address. Would you like to come in?”
“Yes, I would”
As Kelly handed her a beautiful bouquet of daisies and the champagne.
“These are beautiful, Kelly. I don’t think I have ever been given flowers before”
“Seriously?! How has anyone never given a woman like you flowers?”
“I don’t know. Just never met a gentleman before, I guess”
As Stella poured them each a glass of champagne. They both made their way to the couch. Clinking their glasses together.
“So…What’s this all about Kelly?”
“Well. Honestly. Stella when I first laid eyes on you, it did something to me that I can’t explain. I have never had this feeling before. I’m gonna be completely truthful. I have always kept things casual with women due to my upbringing and past. I never let myself put in much effort. Never let myself feel. But when I saw you, that all changed. I just knew that I needed to spend time with you”
“Awww. Kelly. That is so sweet of you. I will also be honest. I noticed you right away. I thought to myself how attractive you are. I have had a rough past. No family since I was young. I lost my parents. I was shuffled around. Surrounding myself with not the greatest people. I have serious trust issues. I have built up walls. Easier to not let people in and that way I can’t get hurt”
“I get that Stella. I too have put up walls. I was convinced those walls would stay up forever, until yesterday. I don’t want to rush things. But I would love to spend time together, get to know each other and hopefully I can break down those walls for you in time”
“I would love that. It feels like there is something here. I too think we should take things slow but I can’t deny I’m definitely feeling something for you, which is terrifying. Though also, makes me happy”
“Stella, I just need to tell you. You are so beautiful. Inside and out. I’m so thankful you are giving me, giving us this chance”
“You sure know the right things to say, lieutenant. Making it really hard not to fall for you”
“So my plan is working”
As they both chuckled.
Stella turned on the TV.
“Wanna watch a movie, lieutenant?”
“Sounds perfect”
Kelly and Stella snuggled up to one another as the movie started. Everything felt natural for both of them. This may have started unconventional. Both had walls up for years but they were going to break down those walls for one another.

Alltick API: Decoding U.S. Stock Market Rules & Empowering Real-Time Trading Decisions
In the global financial markets, the U.S. stock market remains a cornerstone due to its massive scale, diverse asset classes, and mature trading mechanisms. For both institutional investors and individual traders, the demand for real-time U.S. market data continues to surge. Alltick API, a professional-grade financial market data provider, delivers millisecond-latency global market data while empowering users to seize every trading opportunity with precision. This article explores the U.S. stock ticker system, trading rules, and how Alltick’s real-time API redefines quantitative and high-frequency trading strategies.
1. U.S. Stock Ticker Rules: Precision from Symbol to Market
The U.S. stock ticker system prioritizes simplicity and recognizability, with symbols ranging from 1 to 5 letters that reflect company abbreviations or brand identities. Examples include:
AAPL for Apple Inc.
MSFT for Microsoft
AMZN for Amazon
This coding system not only aids memorization but also reveals industry affiliations. For instance:
Financial firms often use suffixes like "B" or "F" (e.g., JPM for JPMorgan Chase).
Tech companies favor shorter codes (e.g., NVDA for NVIDIA).
Special identifiers like ST (indicating consecutive losses) or DR (post-dividend adjustments) further enhance the informational depth of ticker symbols.
2. U.S. Stock Trading Rules: Efficiency Meets Risk Management
Centered around the NYSE and NASDAQ, U.S. trading mechanisms balance liquidity and fairness:
Trading Hours:
Regular session: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET.
Pre-market (4:00–9:30 AM ET) and after-hours (4:00–8:00 PM ET) trading enable flexibility but with reduced liquidity.
T+2 Settlement: Transactions settle two business days after execution, demanding robust risk management.
Circuit Breakers: Triggered when the S&P 500 drops 7%, 13%, or 20%, halting trading to curb extreme volatility.
In this environment, real-time data latency becomes a critical factor. While standard market data interfaces suffer 15-minute delays, Alltick API’s millisecond-level updates ensure strategies capture micro-movements instantaneously.
3. Alltick API’s Core Advantages: Real-Time Data Revolution
For quantitative and high-frequency strategies, data quality and speed directly determine profitability. Alltick API redefines market data standards through:
A. Zero-Latency Global Coverage
Direct Exchange Feeds: Data sourced directly from NYSE, NASDAQ, and other major exchanges, eliminating intermediaries and ensuring sub-50ms latency.
Multi-Protocol Support: Real-time streaming via WebSocket, REST API for historical data, and compatibility with Python, Java, C++, and more.
B. Comprehensive Data Granularity
Tick-by-Tick Data: Includes price, volume, bid/ask direction, and timestamps to reconstruct market microstructure.
Level 2 Market Depth: Displays top 5 bid/ask tiers, optimizing order execution for high-frequency algorithms.
C. Enterprise-Grade Reliability
Global CDN Network: 99.99% uptime guaranteed through load-balanced servers across regions.
Custom Solutions: Tailor data fields, frequencies, and storage formats to meet institutional needs.
4. Alltick API Use Cases: From Backtesting to Live Trading
High-Frequency Strategy Optimization: Build spread arbitrage or statistical models using real-time ticks to exploit microsecond opportunities.
Risk Monitoring: Detect anomalies (e.g., flash crashes) and dynamically adjust positions via real-time alerts.
Cross-Market Hedging: Synchronize U.S. equities, crypto, and forex data for global portfolio diversification.
5. Why Choose Alltick?
Alltick outperforms traditional vendors through cost efficiency and developer-centric design:
Affordable Pricing: Tiered plans and free trials replace Bloomberg Terminal’s $20k+/year fees.
Seamless Integration: Clear documentation, sample code (Python/CURL), and 5-minute setup.
Conclusion: Turn Data into Your Alpha with Alltick API
In the financial arena, where information equals wealth, Alltick API redefines market data with real-time accuracy, global coverage, and unmatched reliability. Whether refining quant models, managing risk, or optimizing trades, Alltick empowers your strategy at every step.
Visit 【Alltick API】 to start your free trial and unlock the full potential of the U.S. stock market.

EURUSD Hits 1-Month High, Crude Oil Rebound
Global stocks rose on Monday, while the euro rallied, after President Trump delayed his threat to impose 50% tariffs on EU goods. However, trading volumes were thin with UK and US markets both closed for public holidays.
On Friday, the US President had unexpectedly called for the big tariffs on European imports, saying negotiations with the region had become too sluggish.
But on Sunday, Trump reversed course, pushing the deadline for tariff imposition back to July 9 from June 1, after European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the trading bloc needed more time to produce a deal.
On foreign exchanges, the euro hit a one-month high against the US dollar after Trump agreed the temporary trade policy reprieve. The euro climbed as much as 0.55% to reach $1.1418 for the first time since April 29.
EURUSD Daily
Meanwhile, the greenback continued its decline against a broad spectrum of other currencies, with the Dollar Index losing 0.1%, weighed by Trump’s policy reversals, as well as his big spending and tax cut bill, which passed in the US House of Representatives last week.
But even with a weaker dollar, gold prices were lower as safe haven support waned on trade spat relief. Spot gold fell 0.6% to $3,339 an ounce. Spot silver prices shed 0.4% to $33.31.
Analysts at Citi revised their short-term price target for gold back up to $3,500 per ounce, citing the latest tariff escalation and high geopolitical risks. They expect gold prices to consolidate between $3,100 and $3,500 per ounce, up from a May 12 estimate of $3,000 to $3,300 per ounce.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin continued to hold firm, up 1.0% to 110,203, after the US Senate last week voted to advance a bill aimed at regulating stablecoins.
Elsewhere, oil prices steadied after President Trump’s deadline extension for trade talks with the EU eased concerns that the hefty tariffs first proposed could hit fuel demand.
The US President’s comments regarding possible sanctions on Russia also supported crude prices. In a social media post on Monday, Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin had “gone crazy” after unleashing the largest aerial attack of the war on Ukraine over the weekend and that the US was weighing new sanctions on Moscow.
USOILRoll H4
US WTI crude rose 0.1% to $61.60 a barrel, and UK Brent crude added 0.1% to $64.88 a barrel.
Brent and WTI had both traded higher on Friday as limited progress in US-Iran nuclear talks knocked expectations that more Iranian oil will return to global markets.

You can also leverage to control larger positions with relatively small capital outlay. Despite its popularity, lack of knowledge has created many common CFD misconceptions which are often overlooked by potential investors and prevents them from exploring its benefits and opportunities.
In this article, we will be debunking CFD myths and discuss the most common CFD trading myths and provide you with CFD trading facts.

Myth 2: Professional traders are the only ones that can trade CFDs.
Most people think that this is too difficult to be attempted by beginners and that it should be completely left up to the financial professionals experienced over many years.
In fact, today's trading platforms forex account democratized the access to trading in financial markets-from CFDs to stocks, options, and much more. Certainly, one will need experience, but a beginner can learn and go on to trade CFDs by starting small and having the priority of education.
Actionable Advice: If you are a novice CFD trader, start by familiarizing yourself with a demo account. Focus on mastering one or two markets initially rather than trying to trade everything at once.
Myth 3: CFD Inevitably Risk-Free
Certain promotional tools minimize the risk and potential danger of trading everything in CFDs. There arises a misleading impression that profits from CFD trading are essentially risk-free.
Now, the Realities:
Trading is always carried out under risk while certain risks are inherent in the case of CFDs which need to be understood and addressed by traders. The leverage feature that adds attractiveness to the CFDs for its stunning earning power also makes losses much bigger.
