Ryoma:… Look, Corrin. Can you see the sun breaking over the horizon? Corrin: Yes…I suppose I can. Ryoma: They say the sun never shines in Nohr, but we can see that that’s not true. Perhaps it’s small comfort, but I take this as a good omen. Corrin: It is warm here. The same kind of warmth I felt walking the streets of Hoshido. I hope someday, both Hoshido and Nohr can share this kind of warmth. Ryoma: Anything is possible, Corrin.
Redrew one of my favorite pieces I made with my favorite Chapter, CH 15 of birthright. I love this moment because Ryouma shows Corrin optimism that there is still hope even at dark times. It's a very touching moment especially with Corrin near death experience after saving Kaze and the killings of the wolf skin tribe. I love how comforting big Brother Ryoma is and there's still hope.

Ah I don't think selena can die and she doesn't have a hinoka support I was just thinking of an idea that I throw around in my head a lot cause it's something I wish Fate tried it for like the tragedy of it all. Like her repeating her mother's fate and never truly being able to stop that cycle cause all she's ever been good at is fighting and of course she'd die for her lord she's been prepared ro do that since she was a child (futures past severa haunts me). I also am a firm believer of let severa have kids like owain and inigo just cause I find the idea of them popping back to ylisse with them hilarious. "Whatcha got there? "A smoothie" also I just think she'd be a weirdly good ma.
(prev ask)Oh, gotcha! It's been so long since I played Conquest in the base game, so I googled it and saw some forums where it said Selena could die. I took that as the truth, but looking at the wiki now, I'm reminded that Selena & Beruka are both spared by Corrin in ch. 23 of Birthright. Whoopsie! Still fascinating to think about what-ifs! Re: Hinoka Support, I bet she has a Gay Fates support that I need to check out. Plus, two redhead pegasus knights with family to live up to? When Selena almost went to Hoshido to look for Corrin instead and ended up in Nohr last minute? The original writers missed an opportunity.
"Like her repeating her mother's fate and never truly being able to stop that cycle cause all she's ever been good at is fighting and of course she'd die for her lord she's been prepared ro do that since she was a child (futures past severa haunts me)." The cycle of it all!!! If Severa had stayed in Ylisse, she may have tried to be Lucina's retainer/her Frederick, since that's how she basically ends up in the Future Past DLC ending. And then going to Nohr and being Camilla's retainer? Severa/Selena can change her name, but she can't change the fighting and devotion that is ingrained in her. The cycle of it all. Ah.
"also I just think she'd be a weirdly good ma." There's no doubt in my mind Severa would be competitive with an older kid about some things once the kid is old enough to actually do things and practice skills independently, but I also have no doubt that given her own history with (a) perfectionist parent(s) (whom she loves deeply), she'd go out of her way to always make sure her kid never felt she had to Really compare or compete with parents. If her kid tries a skill and doesn't do well, I have no doubt she'd be like "So what if you're not good right off the bat? Who is? Let's go again!" but only in the most supportive way.

rev ch 25/26 spoilers:
thinking like three layers deep on my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SCENES EVER <3
something i just noticed about the stealth-attack-fade-to-black of gunter to corrin is that he gives the "I AM THE ENTOMED GOD" line right before and it's a warning... was that anankos, or is this gunter?
(metatextually we all know the purpose is a mega flag to the player that he's the traitor) - but what i'm curious is after, when corrin mentions the line back to him. is gunter lowkey mentally cursing anankos for slightly blowing his cover, and he has less agency with saying that? does he not give a shit anymore and simply looking for the ripest opportunity to take out the royals (but stops at the last minute when azura steps on scene)? is it sort of both but him wanting to stall until everyone reaches the throne room for maximum plans-going-smoothly (and hamming it up?)
oddly enough i think that one ch25 scene actually has less heat if you've got gunter/corrin married - don't get me wrong i still fucking DIE that it's in there, but part of the pure horny-chair-bonk moment was the sheer whiplash of the game by-default treating gunter as a father figure (almost more as an extension of audience assumptions rather than anything explicit) but dancing very carefully around the erotic hints and taking great care not to canonize their dynamic one way or another.
damn the game really tries to put sumeragi as a fake flag (ALSO A FATHER-FIGURE GOOD LORD) re: whoever attacked corrin right after the above scene. i swear to god lategame rev loves sandwiching these incredibly fucky scenes with gunter with all the father parallels. barking. BARK.

An example of an actual undeniable inconsistency in Fates that i noticed was Yukimura's survival (or lack thereof) in the JP script of Conquest; Corrin says this in Chapter 23:
It isn’t surprising… So many Hoshido soldiers were slaughtered before her eyes. We could’ve helped Yukimura and her two retainers if they were prisoners of war, but…
But then says this to Ryoma at the end of Chapter 27:
Sakura and Yukimura were kept alive properly as prisoners of war.
The only explanation i can think of that would make this make sense would be that Corrin was lying to Ryoma about Yukimura being taken prisoner, but i find that extremely unlikely; Ryoma has never shown any kind of serious affection for Yukimura and, as such, Corrin stands nothing to gain by lying to him about his survival, so it was more likely than not just a blunder on whoever wrote the chapter 27 line.
(Also rip to Hana and Tsubaki, those guys are definitely dead and, worse still, Sakura probably had to watch as they were killed too😔)
Actually! I found out that apparently some fan translations got that first bit in CH. 23 wrong and that the part about "we could've helped them" is more like "at least we were able to help them" or some such. So it's consistent I think. Besides, I think part of why the surviving royal siblings on each route are relatively okay is because they have their retainers alive as well. I don't think Sakura would be as okay with Nohr if she didn't at least have Hana and Subaki still with her.

A few notes about Ch. 6
The fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/49875277
The chapter I’m referencing isn’t currently done, but I’ve just finished the first part and I want to give a quick rundown on how I feel about it and why I’ve made Corrin a bit more emotional. I’ll try to keep this more focused on the work rather than bashing Fates’ writing.
But I do have to bash the game’s character writing first. A lot of the characterization is botched thanks to the absolute hell that was the game’s development, but I think it really had potential (which is one of the reasons why I’m even able to write this fic in the first place). Not to mention, it also had a different purpose: as a part of a whole (a script for a game) instead of an entire work on its own. Obviously, it could’ve been better, but for the most part, it allows the chapters to flow (kinda, if you don’t take time to think about the plot).
The tone of this work is entirely different, evidenced by the tag “Psychological Drama,” which I do plan to stick to. Perhaps it might not be a psychological drama at the level of Crime and Punishment, but I do want to craft characters with more realistic depictions — even in fantasy. Since the visual realism is mostly left up to the imagination (with vivid descriptions), most of the realism from the characters comes from emotional & psychological depictions that check out. But, of course, that takes a lot of time to think through and double check, which is totally NOT a copout of why these are taking so long.
Honestly, when playing through the original game my first time (when I was like 14 or something), it didn’t strike me as odd when Corrin only barely reacted to the beginning of the story, but when playing again later, it struck me as incredibly weird. Their birth mother dies in their arms (shocking enough to make them transform into a fucking dragon) and then, with no time to grieve, they march to a field in the middle of Hoshido and proceed to alienate themselves from one of their families — both, in Revelation.
In a sense, I also made Corrin more emotionally fragile, based on her context. She grew up tethered solely to her family: her only childhood friend was almost executed because she went on a picnic with him outside the grounds and the only people she had left to interact with were her adoptive siblings and her servants (loyal to Nohr). The person she thought of as a father then tells her to kill people before sending her on a death mission when she refuses. Then, her entire world shatters as she is told that she’s actually a princess of Hoshido instead! So the only deep connections she’s had in her life have been entirely based on family, and it’s all ripped away from her.
If someone like that suddenly loses all familial relationships, I’d be surprised if they didn’t melt into a pile of emotionally destroyed goo. And, in the games, it’s supposed to happen much sooner than the timeframe I gave in the story! I suppose you could make the case that they were deluding themselves that the rejection from Xander and Ryoma could easily be fixed and using that as a coping mechanism to prevent from entirely breaking, or maybe they were just sigma-pilled stoics or something. But even that makes no sense: they obviously feel grief and remorse at other points in the plotlines (see any sibling death, Mikoto), and they are emotionally expressive too, so how were they unaffected by that shit?
It’s a case of “I’m looking too much into this,” probably.
This incarnation of Corrin is not so fortunate, I’m afraid. When she gets hit with this, especially since she’s just beginning to grow emotionally, it’s a rather hard and long lasting sucker punch. She will eventually crawl out of this hole (real crazy spoilers). Her influences growing up (Xander & the Nohrian siblings) show in how she tries to bottle her emotions up but the total weight is too much after she has those around her to connect to. I’m trying not to have Corrin cry too much (having her come across as OoC), but the first few chapters of the game would be rather brutal to a girl who is seeing the world for the first time. I promise she won’t sob at a hat’s drop when she recovers from this.
I also wanted to talk about Elise, because she’s in a similar state of emotional distress. From my experience with Fates, Elise also seems to derive a lot of her emotional wellbeing from her family, so she would probably be sensitive to conflict between the siblings. Being at the beginning of teenagehood (no way she’s older than fifteen at most) brings its fair share of emotional instability just from growing up, and then when she’s hit with Corrin disappearing, reappearing, and then Xander shutting down any chance of reconnection! Rough. Honestly, until I was writing it, I felt a depressive episode was a little extreme for Elise, but after, I think it fits and gives her a bit more depth.
Also, it feels like I’ve struck gold with a lot of the dynamics that’re building in the story (even if I might be trying to refine that gold with a janky set up in my backyard). Elise and Lissa being best friends was a shoe-in, but I’m surprised other crossover stories haven’t really touched on how perfect a friendship they would have. Unfortunately, since I don’t want the story to be 8 million words long and as focused as someone’s 20/200 vision, I wasn’t able to show much of Lissa’s stay in Nohr and interactions with the Nohrian royals. If it strikes my inspiration, I might write a few side-stories detailing that time — same for Robin’s month-long stay in Hoshido.
Speaking of word-length, I feel like this story will easily break a million words and I’d rather not bore you guys with a rewrite of a plot you’ve no doubt played or read or seen a dozen times over, so I’ll be leaning more into plot divergence from this point forward. Also, I may disappear for a while before coming back and posting some chapters, like I just did for this chapter…. lol……
Well, I’ve spent too long with this story idea stuck in my head, so I’m putting it in words and doing it till the end, so don’t worry if I go no-communication for a while. I will still be working on it. And I’ll definitely try to get it to more than one burst of updates a year too. This thousand word brain dump likely rambles too much to get a consistent point across, but if you read it, thank you for reading. Chapter 7 is fully planned (ch. 8 is ~85-90% planned), but I’ve barely started writing it, so it’ll probably be a little bit until then. Who knows, though — I could have another burst of creativity before I go back to college in the fall.
Okay, I’ve finished the chapter now, and I only have a few more thoughts to add: chapter seven is like 1% written and chapter eight is fully planned, so I’ll start working on those soon. It was super satisfying to click post on chapter six, so that’ll fuel me for the next few days or few thousand words. Also, Fates is over eight years old (internationally) at this point, which is kind of messed up, so I feel like I’m just constantly aging and then decaying into dirt at this point. Oh well…
Wish they would announce a new Fire Emblem 4: Genealogy of the Holy War remake before I die… hmm, looks like I’ll just keep this clown makeup on, then…

Her whole village was gone in an instant.
Her Mother was torn from her right in front of her eyes.
Her own life had been snatched from her. The Faceless’ fingers and claws, narrowly avoiding her face as precious memories turned Mozu to cowardice, to weakness. She couldn’t do a thing as her village was torn to shreds.
And now she was here. It was strange and surreal and people expected a lot from her, Mozu thought. She didn’t even know where to begin. To get stronger? The thought daunted her. Or to pretend that nothing had changed at all, that there were chores to be done and soil to be tilled and animals to be fed or hunted.
   It was awful.
She didn’t deserve to be alive. She shouldn’t have been the sole survivor, she shouldn't have been a survivor at all. She was just a girl from a small village, she hadn’t been trained for greatness and yet. Here she was. Thrust into it as the newest recruit in Princess Corrin’s personal army.
Mozu felt as mindless as those monsters which had put her into this mess at all. She didn’t deserve a spot amid all these talents knights and sorcerers, diviners and ninja. Doubt crippled her. Everything about her felt weak as she was lost in the slurry of grief but the people around her, Corrin especially, encouraged her to keep going. That she was going to be a valued part of their army, that their meeting - despite the pain - had been fate.
Mozu didn’t disagree but for the first week of her stay, whenever she got up in the morning, it was after awful nightmares and they didn’t stop just because she was awake. When she would till the soil, toiling in the fields, hoeing and digging, she would open up quakes full of worms and the memory of burying her own mother.
She couldn’t even give anyone, least of all her parents, proper funeral rites. Back home, it was a mass of shallow graves. Corrin’s army had, at the very least, done that kindness for the bodies who hadn’t been burnt in the carnage or otherwise ravaged by monsters, animals, or the elements at large.
It made things difficult, however. When it felt like digging deeper, she was just spearing through the face of her mother and other loved ones with the head of her shovel but Mozu stilled herself from these visions. The living had to eat and the dead had to be eaten. That was just the way of nature.
The first harvest made it worth it, however.
Mozu prepared the first meal she had for Corrin and her army. She prepared it gravely, however, the instructions inscribed in her heart and soul, etched their by her mother and her mother’s before her. She treated every vegetable, to the last potato or carrot, no matter how misshapen or appetising looking, with the utmost respect. She hunted the boar, too, whose flesh would become pork after she treated it.
The resulting meal, there was crying out for more, for seconds and thirds. Unfortunately, Mozu had not made enough. She had made a bowl for every person in her village but their numbers were slightly smaller than Corrin’s army - or at the very least, they needed less since they were just farmers.
Still, being praised, it felt good. Even if it made Mozu cry herself to sleep that night. She had thought for sure that everyone would hate her cooking, that it would be bland and tasteless. That it would be just as lifeless as the people who had passed on such recipes to her.
The next morning, she was red-eyed and weary, but she was back in the field. This time, her harvest would be enough so that everyone could have a feast, to eat until they were full after having as many as fourths if they so chose.
Until then, Mozu had to contend with how her back breaking work was heartbreaking, too.
But getting out of her head, and the fields, every so often helped. Things changed day by day, getting to know the others helped. Especially Corrin. Mozu really enjoyed getting to know her.
They talked about school and education. Fancy things Mozu had never dreamed of before. They talked about clouds and the weather. They talked occasionally about the friends Mozu had at the village before the Faceless had taken them. They talked about the things they liked to eat and there came a day when they talked about the things that scared them.
   Made them sad.
It was a calm, still dusk in the Deep Realms. Mozu had finished yet another hard day’s work on the farm. She was filthy, caked in mud and sweat, but Corrin didn’t care. The twilight air was cool on the back of Mozu’s sweaty neck. sSe liked that a lot as they watched the stars reveal themselves one by one before becoming constellations.
They sat at the top of the hill and at the bottom of outer space, it was almost like they were the only two people in the whole wide world. Their chatter was quiet, the crickets were louder than them as they exchanged a deep and meaningful almost out of nowhere: the six month anniversary of their meeting, and of course the deaths in Mozu’s village.
“Did I ever tell you…?” Corrin murmured. Her hand wandered to Mozu’s side but she wasn’t quite daring enough yet to touch Mozu, instead her fingers scraped through the dirt and grass they were sitting on. “I lost my Mother, Mikoto, from right in front of my eyes, too.”
“O-Oh, Corrin, I’m so sorry.” Mozu said.
“I wanted you to know. I promise, even though we are so different, I think we’re quite the same underneath.” Corrin said.
“I-I think so, too.” Mozu replied.
She felt her heart seize when Corrin finally plucked up the courage to touch her. She sheltered her hand over Mozu’s and held it tightly.
“I want to make a world where children won’t ever have to see their parents die in front of them like that. Violently, that is.” Corrin said.
“‘S a good dream.” Mozu said. “I’d like to help, if possible.”
   “You already are.” Corrin replied.
Mozu tried to smile but she cried instead. Her heart felt like a heavy rock deep within her and Corrin could understand why. She really could. She shuffled in closer and lended her shoulder to Mozu. Mozu curled into her side and bawled.
She let it all uncork. She didn’t care if she got tears and snot on Corrin and Corrin didn’t care either. She was loud and noisy, too, as she wailed. It was just a little cry at first, a couple tears, but as Mozu kept going, it kept happening. She figured it was just the month by month of what she hadn’t released until she finished with a sputter.
“This is the first time I’ve ever seen you cry, country girl.” Corrin pointed out, meekly.
“I-I wanted t’ b’ strong f-fer you a-an’ Ma…” Mozu mumbled. Though she didn’t feel that strong, until she turned her head slightly.
Corrin was haloed by the silver starlight and within it, she looked steely and stalwart. Her heart and her head in the right place as she spoke with genuine conviction.
“You have been, don’t you worry.” Her voice was soft despite the depth it carried in so little.
Mozu nodded weakly and she retreated slightly. She remained curled towards Mozu, however, as she put her hands in front of her, she kneaded the grass thoughtfully.
“I… I love you, Lady Corrin.” Mozu said. “Thank you… thank you for finding me. For giving me a home. For saving me.”
“You saved your…” Corrin trailed off before deciding she shouldn’t share what she was thinking.
Mozu had a pretty good clue that she knew what she was. She nodded weakly. She thought about how she took the first kill of the Faceless in retaliation: before Corrin, before anyone else official to Corrin’s army but her. She had pushed everything the village had taught her into a dinky old brass spear and got her revenge.
But it was the only kill she got. After that, she had to be coddled and protected like a little kid. Doing all that had taken all her strength…
Though now look at her. A master of her spear, she had even taken up archery. Even now, as she carried on, she did so with their spirits on her shoulders. Everything she had learned from them was as much a blessing as it was a burden amid her grief.
“Can I kiss you?” Corrin asked.
   “Please.” Mozu replied.
They kissed desperately afterwards, as though the world was going to end tomorrow. It may as well have, because in the night, in their own bedrooms, they would both dream of those moments again: of a mother crying out, hands outreached, pushing away a daughter to keep her safe above all else. But for now, the taste of salt from the tears that Mozu had shed grounded them to each other, to comfort and console, for better or for worse.
A ring would follow soon enough. Though for Corrin, not her, with Mozu in the fields more often than not, she didn’t want it to get lost or ruined but the thought was more than enough. Especially when a wedding and a marriage came afterwards but no honeymoon. Not until the war was over but they spent their time planning it like they would an assault in the war room: Mozu had big plans and Corrin wanted to help bring them to fruition.
Even at her time of marital bliss, in between the current conflict, Mozu pined for her village and wanted to see it rebuilt. That was how she wanted to spend her honeymoon and for another six months, it seemed like it would just be a dream but eventually, with the assistance of her loyal army, Corrin brought peace to both Hoshido and their adversaries, Nohr.
It was not without loss, however.
It was not lost on Mozu that in carrying out Corrin’s will, she had created many more selves akin to her own in Nohr. Though they tried to minimise casualties, accidents happened and temporary incapacitation could take a turn for the worse. Mozu just hoped the children whose parents had been taken from them would one day forgive her.
She hoped the remaining siblings of Corrin’s from her Nohrian past could forgive them one day, too.
But for now, there was a bittersweet victory. Even peace. That meant construction and rebirth could follow the carnage that had been wrought between the nations that had been at conflict. It felt like it would never come but it did: the working honeymoon between Corrin and Mozu.
Together, they set up camp in the remnants of Mozu’s hometown and it was difficult. The nightmares that Mozu had forgotten came back in full force, it made her reckless during the day but Corrin steadied her. Between the two of them, they were able to erect better memories to the folk who had lost their lives to the Faceless and then, with the help of others, their friends and acquaintances, they started to rebuild.
Three months was a long time yet not long enough. They hardly got started at all before Corrin was called back to Shirasagi for royal duties but they left the rebuilding in good hands. Kind people were everywhere, their efforts had attracted goodwill from neighbouring villages, people Mozu scarcely remembered from her childhood, now adored her as a hero. They wanted to help. She promised she would return when she could but as queen-to-be, her noble mission was made complicated.
But an actual holiday from her honeymoon would not be unwelcome, especially in the opulent fold of Castle Shirasagi, both Mozu and Corrin would agree. Although, Mozu still craved the mundane busywork and that would be that.
Upon returning to the peacetime, there was a restoration of the usual rites and rituals of the royals. To a certain extent, anyway. This included the surrendering of chores to the servants but not in this instance. After three months of this order, Mozu’s return did buck that resuming trend.
Both Mozu and Corrin insisted: this was the celebratory meal after their honeymoon, they wanted to celebrate properly with their family. Mozu wanted to cook dinner for her siblings-in-law and of course, her beloved wife.
“Please.” she insisted, brows furrowed as soon as she proposed the idea.
There was no resistance as memories of her meals had not faded in her three month absence from the army. That pleased Mozu greatly as she used her own harvest and recipes in the kitchen, completely undisturbed by the others. Though help was poked and prodded at her but no.
This was something she had to do all alone.
   Even if that intimidated her.
The hall was spick and span, so clean and shiny that food could be eaten off the floors. Mozu felt like she was tracking mud through the wooden panels underfoot regardless of what she did. She hovered, like a mouse, going to and fro as she second guessed her menu until inspiration struck. She had a lot of hungry bellies relying on her and that was enough to propel her forward.
She stood in the royal kitchen, with all their glistening pots and pans and did her best.
When it came to serve, her best was more than enough. Her meals were plain and simple but because she executed them so well, they became unique and memorable. Mozu sat, with Corrin, not at the head of the table as that belonged to Corrin’s brother but adjacent to his side.
   “A verifiable feast.” Ryoma remarked.
   “Here, here!” Hinoka agreed.
As did everyone else at the table, their individual sets customised to their liking. Mozu remembered all their favourites, likes and dislikes. She wanted to impress and so she did.
“You're welcome.” Mozu said but her voice cracked.
Corrin’s ears pricked on it immediately, “Hey, what’s wrong?” she asked.
Her hand lunged at Mozu’s and held it, she looked up at Corrin, concerned. She blinked and it was only then that Mozu realised, she had been crying.
   “Huh? What’s this?” Mozu asked.
With her other hand, she wiped away the tear but looking at it, a dewdrop on the pad of her finger, Mozu could hardly recognise it as hers but a dull ache began to throb in her chest. She was overwhelmed with bittersweet ennui. It came all at once and she was too slow to have even felt it at first.
“Why am I… crying?” Mozu asked.
“How should I know?” Corrin joked but it felt inappropriate. Her sheepishness in her smile made that apparent.
“I’m finally with my family again, why am I so sad?” Mozu said.
“You think of us of family?” Sakura shyly inquired from across from her.
Hinoka and Ryoma exchanged a knowing smile. Mozu glanced at all the faces. Sakura, Hinoka, Ryoma, and Takumi, as well as their entourage and spouses, even children. Mozu nodded shyly.
“I’m a very lucky gal,” Mozu began to explain as Corrin rubbed her thumb over her knuckles, warm and consoling, “I have so many sisters an’ brothers-in-law, nieces an’ nephews. I-I love you all an’ I know I’m loved in turn. I-It’d make my Ma an’ Pa, up in heaven, very happy.”
“Oh… Mozu.” Corrin’s eyes began to water as her voice warbled.
“I mean it. An’ I’m lucky to have you, best of all. Th-Thank you, Corrin.” Mozu said.
It felt awkward, even though they had kissed in front of Corrin’s family before but they kissed again. A sweet and simple kiss, so utterly chaste, that stole Mozu’s breath away and dried her tears. It was a kiss that could have, honestly, lasted until the end of the world but instead, only a few mere seconds. Interrupted by the growl of Mozu’s stomach.
Leaving Corrin and Mozu both looking rather demure, and flushed, afterwards.
“Hungry?” Corrin offered an awkward segue from her and her wife’s public display of affection. She blushed as she heard her sisters snicker from across from her, her brothers had wisely averted their eyes.
“Famished.” Mozu said as she picked up her bowl to take a sip from it. The taste of her mother’s miso soup recipe warmed her heart and soul but was tinted by the taste of Corrin.

So I did both! @shackld, @remyfire
4. Ch. 2 of the Corrin/Odin support rewrite
“Patience, patience, my noble pupil!” Odin grins, waggling a finger at the princess – in an act that would surely earn him an earful from Lord Leo but, gratefully, Lady Corrin merely waits with wide, eager eyes. Deftly, the mage bends down from the pile and plucks the first tome from the stack – a [tome] of simple fire spells, newly purchased from the armory. “Might I have your hand, Lady Corrin?” Her confusion is palpable, from the furrowing of her brow to her teeth worrying at her lower lip. But eventually, Corrin acquiesces, extending her hand toward her brother’s retainer. Gently, Odin takes her wrist, tugging her closer until her palm lays flat on the spellbook’s cover. He lays his hand atop hers, praying to Naga and all the gods of Nohr that Lord Leo wouldn’t see or hear of this. All the while, her eyes remained locked with Huberts – citrine against sapphire. “I don’t want Ferdinand,” she murmurs so softly that Hubert can barely hear her against the slight sloshing of water as he moves as close to her as possible. “I don’t want Ferdinand or El or whoever you think would be better for me. You don’t get to make that choice for me. I want you, Hubert von Vestra. I love you. “A double-edged blade cuts your heart in two”
Based on the BR CH 23: Tears of a dragon:
Corrin: What are we even fighting for? Is it worth it? Ryoma: Look up, Corrin. Corrin: Ryoma? Ryoma: Dry your tears. Think about Lilith's sacrifice. She gave her life so you could continue fighting. And what are we fighting for? We are fighting for peace! We are fighting for Queen Mikoto and for the whole world! Do you think Lilith would want you to give up like this? Corrin: Ughhh... Ryoma: Listen. It is time for you to rise to the occasion. If we want to end this war, now is the time for us to take action! Corrin: I'm just so tired. Tired of loss. Tired of death.

I'm rewatching the first f.lowers in the attic and the fact that the grandmother is supposed to be super evil but she's the one telling the kids not to eat the donuts and telling corrine to take her damn kid to the hospital…

little passage from the slowburn, around rev ch ~10 when corrin's been struggling with being branded as a traitor.
you (the reader) get a hint of what gunter thinks about royalty much earlier, and it flavors some conversations fascinatingly so.
----
"Princess, our birthright is our duties, and our duties mark us all our lives. I have mine in service to the crown through you, and you have your own special birthright along with your royal siblings." He licked his lips before continuing with the sternness of a well worn lecture.
He had to get her to understand this.
She would not survive this world otherwise.
"Mere wants do not enter the picture, milady. Just as it is a grave taboo for a commoner to marry a royal, despite all of those saccharine, insipid tales in your books you think I don't know about --" She flushed an angry pink, and he resisted the urge to smirk in the petty victory. "-- so too, is it a grave sin for us all to ignore the duty to our birthright. Your siblings are simply following the rote path laid out to them by fate."
She made if as to interrupt, and he cut her off again.
"Traitors..." He called out to her in a parade-ground voice at the booted click of a perfect right-face, feeling his eyes sharpen to the viciousness of a hunting hound. "Abdicate all of that. Worse, they threaten that divine structure. It is a royal's duty to ensure traitors to the throne are crushed and eliminated before even more threats entertain ideas."
His brows rose mockingly. "Pray tell, princess, what is a royal without her crown?"
Corrin was already shaking her head.
Fool, fool, fool- His mind chanted.

Fire Emblem Engage 18 - 20
Spoilers beneath the cut. This game is SO much fun to play, even if the plot is a bit basic.
Also, I'm shipping Alear with someone HARD.
Ok, so I paired Lief with Goldmary because I thought she'd benefit from the extra build staff and he 100% friendzoned her in their support, lamo.
Time for just about everyone to get Canto. About to see a lot of Sigurd's support conversations. Ivy, Hortensia, Seadall, Chloe, Goldmary, and Merrin are all getting Canto. Alfred already has it. I have Kagetsu with Sigurd right now and may or may not leave it that way. We'll see.
Ouch, Ivy's and Sigurd's support hurt. He talked about knowing the pain of a grieving child. My heart. 😭😭😭 His with Hortensia is pretty much the same. 😭😭😭
Goldmary commits to her gimmick. She is gaslight, gatekeep, and girlboss all in one.
Has anyone found a good use for Ike's blessing? It's makes everything so heavy and the rewards don't seem worth it.
Ok, so it looks like they already patched in (or added) a way to grind supports as a free update (I'm getting the DLC, but not yet). That was one of my biggest complaints about this game is how hard it is to get supports, esp since it encourages you to constantly replace your units, like every single freaking chapter almost throws superior units at you. Way worse than previous games. This should fix that a bit.
Oh, wow, and it got me Alfred and Yunaka's A support first time! I dropped her because I swear she didn't get a single strength point in her level ups, but their supports were really interesting so far. But I didn't get Ivy and Zelkov's C when they swam together so . . . not sure how strong this is, but it's welcome nonetheless. Doing it twice unlocked their C support. Not bad, esp if you have this from the start next time and can grind out more supports.
Rosado taking his life in his hands claiming he's cuter then Goldmary. And Yunaka and Alfred's final support was pretty cute.
Eirika talking about Lyon will never not hurt me. Her paralogue was a big step up in difficulty from Corrin, I feel. I think it was the map layout constricting movement so much and her wing sword making is harder to take advantage of the flier friendly areas.
Somniel is more fun gameplay wise than the Monastery because it's less necessary and feels less tedious, but man does it mess with the storyline way more than the Monastery did. Lief is like "there are still rings in trouble!" and Goldmary is just . . . lying in her bathing-suit and tanning. It's unintentionally funny.
Sombron is pissed that he lost Eirika and Sigurd. No mention of Lief though. 😭
So . . . Alear and Veyle are siblings, right? That means Lumera had sex with that dude.
Yessssss I was so hyped seeing a chapter on the water. I love ship battles. And a recruitable enemy too! This is like old-school FE.
So "the Miracle" that all the Emblems are discussing and mentioning Lumera, is it reviving someone back to life? Also, cool that Sigurd took the lead there.
Man, I just had one of the most satisfying overrides yet. It was during Lief's paralogue, and Kagetsu!Sigurd with Ridersbane must've taken out like 6 of Lief's mage horses.
I also sent Alfred way out by himself to chase down the speedwing on Lief's map. I "told him" that if he survived, he'd get the speedwing. Boy tanked everything like a champ and ended up MVP of the battle (deserved), so now he's 2 points faster.
Both Kagetsu and Ivy are level 19, so I'm doing Ch 19 before Sigurd's paralogue hoping they reach 20 there, and I can reset before doing that chapter where there's a TON of units to fight.
Are we going to fight wolves AGAIN? I hope they die for good this time.
So is Mauvier only staying with the 4 wolves to protect Veyle? Or partly? So I still predict we can recruit him later. I wish we could recruit Griss. Dude is unhinged. I'd love to see supports lol.
I think it's cool that Alear wanted to leave the area because there's no one left. But also fell a bit harder for Alfred who struggled with that decision the most.
This map is going to be VERY annoying with all that purple shit everywhere. Though, do I get Micaiah and Roy back after this?
It's amazing to me that we can destroy the Wolves so many times, and they keep trash talking. Somehow. They're so pathetic. And then, yet again, our heroes are chitchatting and somehow the enemies keep running away. I think it's best you just turn your brain off.
Alfred is like, "should we really let them go?" The voice of reason, finally. But Roy and Micaiah back!
I like Ivy so much more than I expected too. She's hilarious. Her B support with Panette was gold (and some really good voice acting too).
Why does no one ever want to spar with Kagetsu? 😭 There are so many supports about sparring, but not poor Kagetsu. He needs to support Alfred. He's always down for training.
There are so many characters I want to use next time because I like their personalities: Jade, Citrinne, Rosado, Fogado, Zelkov, and Boucheron are some. Pannette has promise. Lapis seems cute. I'm sure Timerra MUST have more to her than songs about eating meat.
Chloe and Merrin are girlfriends. Also, Goldmary starts stripping naked in her support with Framme. Didn't put that on my bingo card.
Micaiah's paralogue map is an amazing choice. Alcryst is the 3-13 Archer this time I guess lol. And there's a stand-in for Sothe too I see. Glad he got a little shout out there.
I GOT THE DEER 😭
Goldmary needs some real issues in her life. Homegirl is having a breakdown because she made a funny face while eating. Who knew her and Framme's support would have so much entertainment?
So at the end of Roy's paralogue he's like "I used to know this demon dragon who wanted to wipe out humanity, you kinda remind me of her." Uh, thanks??? What are you trying to say exactly, Roy?
Mauvier is a Camus archtype 100%, except hope he's recruitable.
Alfred's reassuring Alear. I swear, these two are literally perfect for each other. I've never shipped a self-insert character with someone this hard before.
Oh, will I get Celica back this time? She deserves much better than Griss. He's like the anti-thesis of what Celica stands for.
How come Griss gets to use Ragranok every. single. turn. I never get to do that. Kagetsu finally sent that asshole back to his tile. Couldn't have done it if I didn't trust Alfred a metric fuck ton and just sent him out there.
Woop, got Celica back. She's free! Only Marth left.
Griss was easy to deal with after he stopped attacking me every round. Also, why are we not killing Griss and just letting him laugh about whatever he's so amused over.
Poor Alear just learned that she's the child of Sombron. Ok, Alear needs some headpats. She's confused how she can be Lumera's and the Fell Dragon's child. My dear, it takes two.
Alfred says he doesn't believe it. The only one who said something to try and help her feelings and not about the situation.
I like seeing Sigurd get more focus again. I really hope this means FE4 remake is coming.
So Lumera isn't Alear's blood mother? But, the writers DO know you need two to have a baby divine/fell dragon, right?
Alfred being the first to support Alear 😭😊❤️ And so unquestioning and complete about it. Alear's response to him got me too. Like, I'm falling for this ship hook, line, sinker. I'm going to have a hard time pairing up Alear or Alfred with anyone else unless their S-Support is a dud.
Like, I like Dimileth and Chrobin well enough and all, but I ship all 4 of those with other people too, and sometimes more (like Dimitri and Chrom). But, like, I ONLY am shipping Alfred and Alear with each other so far.
I love how casual Alear is seeing Mauvier wander up, when like we've fought to kill each other multiple times.
Also, I'm rich again! Thank you, Elusia. I may actually be able to afford the cute outfits now.
