I know it's been quite a long time since I've posted my work. But I have enjoyed the last 2 chapters VERY much, so I wanted to feature the main characters from those chapters.

Servamp chapter 123 translation "Winner"

Translation notes.

Some of the lines on the 5th page were tricky and it's recommend to read these notes.

The text boxes on the left in the 2nd and 4th panel use the same words but in a different order and I couldn't translate the same word from Japanese into English because it sounded awkward.

2nd panel : 悪辣と呼ぶには純粋だった。 4th panel: 純粋と呼ぶには悪辣だった。

The first line is about Kiriko, literally it would translate : "Calling her wicked was pure". Sounds awkward if I left it like that in the scanlation.

The word 純粋 means "pure", "genuine", "true". Depending on context you could adapt it as "innocent."

What I believe the line is meant to convey is that by calling Kiriko wicked, that is "right", while with the line about Mikuni, it is "wrong" (wicked) to call him pure. I went with the general translation of the word. So, that's why I believe is the meaning of those lines and you can see that I couldn't use the same words in English.

Literary reference!

Pygmalion is a Greek myth about a sculptor who falls in love with his own creation that comes to life. I think the way it relates to Jeje could be about devotion. Pygmalion could parallel Jeje and Mikuni and Kiriko could be Galatea (the sculptor's statue). What are your opinions? As for the other reading of his ability, I haven't found what it could be referring to. One thing I thought about seeing the words "original" and "murder", that made me think of the story of Cain and Abel, the former having committed the first murder. But as you can see it's FALSE MURDER ACCUSSATION. What do you think about this one?

For the last note, I found the text in the last bubble in the first panel strangely worded. In Japanese it doesn't actually say "you thought/believed" which would have been expressed with 思う. Translated literally, it doesn't make sense: "Servamp of Envy, the reason for your defeat is that even all by yourself you were strong".

嫉妬のサーヴァンプ、きみの敗因は一きみが人きりでも強かったことだ。 Like what? That's why I translated by adding "you thought", despite the fact that it doesn't express that. Given that we've had teamwork, friends helping out as a theme, doesn't it make sense that what Jeje is being told is that "The reason why you lost is because you believed to be strong alone." That makes sense, but again the JPN phrase was weird, maybe the verb "to think" was supposed to be there.
