I have the impression that the word "change" is Reo's trigger word.

It started with his breakdown when Nagi's change hurt him so much.

And much later, after they made peace with each otherwhen Nagi himself said that they had to change, Reo's initial reaction was quite intense:

Just look at that fear on his face.

Was he having flashbacks to the time Nagi changed and left him? Evidently, at first, this word didn't bring anything good to mind. This word was like a red flag for him, because it obviously triggered too many memories for him and announced something new.

However, when Nagi finally, like a normal person, explained his point of view to him, Reo replaced his previous anxiety with determination. Because this time there were no understatements between them that could contribute to creating the worst-case scenarios in Reo's head.

Maybe now he won't necessarily associate "change" with something bad. Because this time Nagi offers him a change together. And not, as before, that Nagi is changing and Reo feels like he's being left behind. Maybe this time the change won't be traumatic for him.
