Candy Coated Chaos: Cover/Excerpt Reveal
I have been dreaming about this cover for so long and it’s more than I ever imagined. I am so excited to share it with you and I hope you adore it as much as I do.
Title: Candy Coated Chaos (Sweet Treats #1)
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: 2/15/18
Cover Design: Murphy Rae
Tumblr media
Alexander
Being with Tavin is like eating those candies that start out sweet and then turn so sour, your eyes water. When she’s happy, her radiance is stunning, but her glow is dimmed by her dark secrets. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on her, sucking on that lollipop, that there was something unique about her. I was right in more ways than one, and while I don’t know the extent of suffering that her life entails, I’ll do whatever I need to, to convince her she can trust me. I just need to hang on to her long enough to do that.
Tavin
When he wraps his arms around me, and his warmth makes me feel safe, it’s easy to pretend that this is real. I knew going out with him was a bad idea, I just never imagined it would go this far. It was only supposed to be one night. One night to feel like a normal girl. I didn’t plan for this and now, every day that passes puts us deeper in danger. All I can do is make the most of every moment with him, so when the time comes for this to end, then at least we’ll be left with beautiful memories.
***Trigger Warning: This novel contains drug use, explicit sexual content, violence, and sensitive subject matter which may be triggering to some readers.

Excerpt:1
“What do you say we hit another bar? There are a ton of them on this street.” I don’t know why I suggest it. All I really want to do is go home and hear that voice moaning my name.
She smiles and nods. “Let’s go.”
I hold her hand as we walk down the street and look for a promising bar. Flashing lights in my peripheral make me turn, and I see a street carnival. When I look down at her, she’s gawking. Her eyes are all lit up and it’s painfully obvious that she is dying to go.
“What do you say we go check that out?” I offer.
For the first time she smiles a genuine, full on smile. She clasps her hands together and I swear her eyes get bigger.
 “Really?!”
Her comical enthusiasm forces me to chuckle. “Of course.”
After nearly getting my arm yanked from its socket, she pulls me to the ticket counter while her eyes scan feverishly.
I gesture to our many choices. “Where to?”
Even as I ask, I know she has no idea. You would think she’s never seen a carnival in her life. She’s about to burst. As she starts to head in one direction, something else will catch her eye, changing her trajectory.
“I- uh. Well, um…”
I take her hand to lace my fingers between hers. “We’ll get to all of it, I promise. How about we start with the tilt-a-whirl?” I point next to the fresh squeezed lemonade stand. “That was always my favorite as a kid.”                She has the sweetest little dimple on her right cheek that appears with her grin and she nods. I don’t know her well enough to tease her when she walks past the ‘You must be this tall to ride this ride’ sign, but I chuckle at the fact she is passable by less than two inches.
She picks the pink cart and we climb inside. Bouncing with anticipation, she grips my hand while the technician locks the bar. Once the ride begins to really get going, our cart makes its first fast spin and she throws her head back and laughs. It is such a pretty sound, a true laugh filled with abandon. She giggles the entire time, squealing at every spin. Her excitement is contagious and after it’s over, I run right along with her, hand in hand to the big slide.
We race down a few times, although the word ‘race’ is a bit of a stretch. She is too light and can’t gain enough speed. She wants to beat me so bad, it’s just never going to happen.
“Will you ride with me?” I think she’s talking to me, until I see she is looking up at the idiot in line with her. My initial reaction is to get pissed and immediately I chastise myself because that’s absolutely ridiculous. She grins at me. “I want to win.”
Well of course I can’t deny her that, even if the asshole she asks is a bit too happy to oblige.
Once she finally gets her wish, I take her to the carousel. She’s been staring at it since we got here.
We choose a decorative carriage seat, slowly moving up and down next to intricately carved horses as the ride circles. I look down and her thighs are so sexy, barely parted, with the hems of her stockings peeking over her knees. “It’s been so long since I’ve been to one of these places,” I tell her as I take the initiative and place my hand on her thigh. She doesn’t flinch or acknowledge that I’m touching her at all.
“I’ve never been.” Her eyes are still absorbing the scene around us, apparently for the first time.
“Never?” She shakes her head and I move my hand a little higher. “So how do you know Eric?”
Her face pales before she blinks a few times and chews on her lip. “Oh… um, he’s just… an acquaintance.”
Another blanket response. I don’t want to push the subject because tonight is going so well, incredible, actually. Nevertheless, at some point I’m going to need to find out what she’s doing with him in my building.                I tuck a curled piece of hair behind her ear to see her stunning profile. The ride begins to slow so I change the subject.
“Do you like cotton candy?”
She snaps her head up to look at me as her entire face brightens. “Cotton candy? I’ve never tried it.”
What a deprived life to have never had cotton candy. “Do you want to?” Not that I need to ask, she clearly does.
 “Very much.”
We watch as the carnie turns the sugary strings into a fluffy pink ball. When it’s finished, he hands it to her and she tilts her head as she pokes at it.
“Take a bite,” I urge her.
She pulls off a piece and the moment the flavor hits her tongue, her face is hilarious. Her eyes go wide and she rips away another large piece and shoves it into her open mouth. I laugh at her enthusiasm as I order a lemonade from the carnie. When I turn around to offer her a drink, the paper handle is bare and she is licking the cotton candy remnants off her fingers.
Good thing I didn’t want any.

Excerpt: 2
He hovers over me, his blond hair soft beneath my fingers as I brush it away from his face. His strong and gorgeous face. I touch his cheeks so softly I wonder if he feels it.
“Can’t we just enjoy this? The right now? I don’t want to think about anything past tonight.”
His eyebrows narrow as his jaw ticks and it’s like he thinks if he looks into my eyes deep enough, he’ll get the answers he thinks he wants.
“That’s what I’m talking about. Whenever you say stuff like that it feels like every moment with you could be my last. You have this way about you, as if you see something the rest of the world can’t. Sometimes you feel almost… magical.” He presses his forehead against mine and laces our fingers together before pulling our hands above our heads. “Please  don’t disappear,” he whispers against my lips.

#Repost @hoptilidrop I think we're all well aware the craft beer world has been quite the rollercoaster over the last few months. It could be viewed with negativity but I actually think it's great these issues have come to light - it's triggered change. . @bravenoisebeer started in the US with a mission to create equality and end discrimination in the industry. The sign up has been incredible globally, with lots of breweries on this side of the pond pledging support. @bedlam_brewery were amongst the first and have now released their Brave Noise pale ale. This light, fruity, and very easily sinkable beer helps raise vital funds for the @allsortsyouth with 50p from every can being donated by the brewery. . sirius & charity // @charitasburbage
Tumblr media
The day had been filled with all sorts of activities that Sirius has begun to forget. Sure, he was having fun, but it all felt like the same thing over and over. Some stupid joke said between friends, everything is funny in the moment but then the next moment is filled with something even more hilarious. Watch the first years get lost but do absolutely nothing about it even though your best mate is the Head Boy. Sirius needed something else to do, something new to do, someone new to bug and bother. He had been enjoying his spot outside, it was still light out but the cooler night air was coming in. He noticed someone walk past, his hand going out instinctively to stop them, this is someone new. “And where do you think you’re going?” Oh this might actually be fun, he thought, as he noticed it was Charity Burbage he stopped. “Off limits, Filch says.”

You've written a novel! Now what?
Congratulations! You should be proud of yourself. Writing a book is hard work and there are a lot of people who never make it through their first draft. Now that you have passed this milestone, unfortunately the easy part is over. If you want your book published, there is still much work to be done, but what comes next? I have heard on plenty occasions to put the manuscript away and not look at it for a few weeks. If I ever have the self-control and patience to accomplish this I will let you know how it goes, but today we are skipping that step.
 Step 1: Editing
Self-editing is detrimental regardless of publishing choice. The first draft is really just to get the story on the paper and let your ideas run free. Now it’s time to mold and shape it into what you really want it to be. You will find inconsistencies in the story, odd dialogue, misspelling and much more. This is a long process and not just a run through or two. You must over your manuscript so many times you literally cannot think of a single other thing to fix. Once it is cleaned up to the best of your ability, you are prepared to move on.
Step 2: Beta Readers
A beta reader is not an editor, they are simply a reader test driving your story. They will give you their thoughts and feedback on what they read. Friends and family are a great start, but understand they may not be able to be one hundred percent objective. You can pay someone for this service, but there are people out there that do it for free. There are Facebook and Goodreads pages dedicated to hooking up betas and authors. Just know that people have busy lives and may not be able to get back to you as quickly as you would like (unless you are paying them that that’s a different story). Whatever feedback you get should be shown appreciation. If you get negative feedback, be grateful because they are trying to help make your story the best it can be.
Step 3: Build an Author Platform
The more followers and social media accounts you have the better. If you have a large following before the book is published, you will increase your chances of success exponentially. Follow other authors that write in your genre, along with book blogs, writing blogs, and publishers. Consider starting your own blog and website. Having a website will be a way for people on every platform to find and contact you. It will help you make connections and build relationships with people in the industry as well as help you improve your writing.
Step 4: Decide on a publishing route
Decide which avenue will be the best for you and go for it! Do you want complete control of your project? Maybe you can’t afford to self-publish (See blog post: How much does it really cost to self-publish?Here) and don’t want all the responsibilities of being your own publishing company. Do your own research and find which path best serves your needs.
Traditional Publishing
Step 5: Agent
If you have your heart set on trying to get published through a large publisher, you must get an agent. It can get to the point you need an agent for an agent, but if you want you manuscript to have a chance of getting looked at, this is mandatory. Smaller publishing houses will take unsolicited manuscripts so if that is the direction you are going, you can forgo this step.
Step 6: Query Letter
Every publisher requires a query letter and once you find the publisher(s) you want to submit to, be sure to read the details of their guidelines. This is a short and sweet letter letting the publisher know why they should consider your book. It contains information about you, the reason you chose that publisher, any awards or credentials you have to boast of, and a brief blurb of your book. I would suggest doing research on what is unacceptable and what is preferred in a Query. Each publisher will have different requirements, so make sure you aren’t just copying and pasting the same letter to multiple publishers. Also be aware some places will not let you send out submissions to other publishers while they are reviewing. Read the fine print
.
Step 7: Synopsis
A synopsis is an overview of your story. This is not the place to be secretive. Put in the major plot points, but be careful to not be data dumpy about it. It is not an easy task putting a 50k+ word novel into 200 or less words. It should be a clear overview of your story, but still interesting enough to make the reader to still want to read your book. Think of this as an interview for an interview. If your Synopsis is dry or has a lot of errors, then that is not a good impression of your book. Be sure to read the guidelines of each publisher to make sure your synopsis isn’t too short or too long.
Step 8: Sample Chapter
Some publishers may ask for sample chapter(s). Make sure your novel is polished to the best of your ability in case they ask for this upon submission. Most do not want you to send your manuscript until they decide if they are impressed by your query and synopsis.
Step 9: Wait
This is going to be a challenge, but you don’t have a choice. By harassing a publishing agent, you may ruin your chances at them ever seeing your manuscript. There are hundreds of submissions sent out every day so allow some time before you start getting nervous. Unfortunately, if they do not want to proceed with your book, most will only respond with silence. It will be tough to not know why, but if you don’t hear back after the suggested wait time, pick yourself up and move on to the next. Remember major authors like Stephen King and J.K. Rowling were both rejected many times before landing a publishing deal. If you do get the call that they want to read your manuscript, then congratulations! It’s time to move on to the next step.
Step 10: Send Manuscript
Be sure this is the absolute best version of your book that it can possibly be, fixing as many typos as possible and making sure it if formatted in the required format. Again, read guidelines in detail.
Step 11: Wait
Here you are again, but that’s good! You’ve made it this far and your chances of being published have increased. It may take a few months for your manuscript to be read and discussed. If they decide your book is not for them, at this stage they are much more likely to send you a rejection letter stating why they chose to pass on your book. Keep in mind, they liked your idea enough to read your book, so maybe that publisher just wasn’t the best fit. Keeping trying and don’t give up. If they decide your book is one they would like to publish, then you have accomplished your goal and are on your way to being a published author living your dream! From this point, production and marketing will be controlled by the publisher
Self-Publishing
Step 5: Editor
When self-publishing, every aspect of production is up to you. You are your own publisher. Once you have your manuscript as polished and self-edited as much as possible, you must hire an editor to edit your work. Finding an editor to professionally clean and polish your manuscript is dire when you decide to self-publish. There are many forms of editing, but poorly edited novels will not sell well. Since the financial burden is on your shoulders, you will likely lose money in the long run by forgoing this step.
Step 6: Author Photo
Get a picture taken that you want to be in the back of your book and to use as a profile picture on your various social media accounts. Make sure it is tasteful and professional.
Step 7: ISBN Number
Purchase your ISBN number(s) for the sale of your book. Be aware of “free” ISBN numbers. Your safest option is www.isbn.org/buy_ISBNs.
Step 8: Formatting
Formatting assures that the inside of your book looks beautiful, whether it’s being sold in paperback or e-book. You don’t want chapter titles at the bottom of a page or pages that are blank. By hiring someone to format your book, you are ensuring that it will look professional and organized.
Step 9: Book Cover
Hiring a professional to design the cover of your novel is a very important step. It’s the first thing people see and helps the reader form an immediate opinion. Unless you have the knowledge and experience creating book covers, leave this one to the professionals or will show.
Step 10: Marketing
In some ways, this is more important than anything you do. You may have written one of the greatest novels in existence, but if it isn’t marketed correctly, nobody will read it. I have heard so much hype over books that are actually pretty horrible and heard nothing over books I thought were phenomenal. It’s finding a balance and finding the right people to market to. There is no point in advertising your erotica novel to sci-fi fans. Find your “tribe” as they say.
Step 11: Print
If you are selling your novel in e-book format only, it’s really just a matter of uploading your completed novel to whatever site you are using. If you are printing paperback, most places use print on demand now, so books are only printed when one is ordered.  And now you are a published author!
*This is a generalization, but hopefully gives you an idea of the process and the work that will go into it, but keep in mind, that is why not everyone who attempts is successful. Good luck on accomplishing your dreams!
                -Charity B.

http://www.charitybeds.com Charitybeds.com is an initiative by a group of young individuals who are disturbed by the discrimination faced by the under privileged at private hospitals in the city. They are a team of young professionals across various industries who feel there is a lack of accurate information and awareness about what the law stipulates and the ground reality. 9 FAVORITE COVERS (Off my Bookshelf)
I am obsessed with book covers and I’ve bought so many books because of the cover alone. Though I may not always like the book, I do alwayshave a pretty new book to display when I’m done. Unless I just want to read the story horribly bad, there have been many five star books that I hated the cover so I didn’t purchase it. It may not be the most intelligent way to go about it, but I have some gorgeous books to show off. While I am a romance writer, my love affair with books began with the fantasy genre so there are quite a few on this list. This was very hard to do because I like so many of my covers. I tried to pick my top five and couldn’t do it, but I was able to keep it down to nine.
1. Alice in Zombieland -Horror/teen fiction
Not to be confused with Gena Showalter’s books by the same name, this is nearly identical Lewis Carrol’s “Alice in Wonderland”, other than certain words, characters, and objects being interchanged for something gory or disturbing. It was quite entertaining actually, but it was this cover that made me want it so much. It’s difficult to tell from the picture, but it’s like a hybrid of a paperback and hardcover.
2. Bad Girls Don’t Die -Paranormal thriller/teen fiction
Full Disclosure, I haven’t actually read this one yet. I got it at a grab bag sale at a book store, but I love the haunting feeling and the vintage style. The lace mixed with the wood floor and her little t toes…it’s just so cute. The story sounds incredibly interesting too. A girl’s little sister becomes obsessed with an old doll and over time she changes and weird stuff is happening in their house. It’s the first book in a series. I’ll get to it eventually.
3. Faery Tales and Nightmares -Dark Fantasy/teen fiction
Melissa Marr is and will always be one of my favorite authors. Everything the woman touches is gold. I am not a fan of short stories, but the cover alone was enough to make me not care. Then the fact that it was written by her, there was no way I wasn’t buying this book. It is good, but I just prefer much longer stories. The silver accents also make it glitter and the dress the model is wearing is fabulous.
4. Captive in the Dark -Dark romance/erotic romance
*Sigh* This is my all-time favorite dark romance story ever. While I didn’t buy it because of the cover (I bought for the crazy ass prologue), the cover is what drew me to it and made me curious. I have mentioned that I hate half naked embracing couples on the cover of romance novels (it cheapens the story to me), however, I do like people on the cover. The entire series (3 books) is beautiful and I love that the faces aren’t showing. I like to imagine what they look like for myself.
5. Beautiful -Teen fiction
This is one that my ‘pick a book by its cover’ method failed me horribly. This was one of the worst books I have ever read and I honestly didn’t get the point. It was supposed to be a cautionary tale of abuse, drugs, and coming of age, but it was really just lame. It had decent reviews so maybe I’m the odd man out. The simplicity of the cover with the lipstick writing and the model’s heavy makeup is a nice effect. Even though the book will never be read again, it still looks great on my bookshelf.
6. Another Pan -Dark Fantasy/teen Fiction
I actually was already reading this series and this stunning cover was a happy surprise. The other books in the (Marlowe School) series were nowhere near this pretty. Each book is (kind of) its own story and this was a somewhat creepy retelling of Peter Pan. The moths are significant to the book(s) and the way her dress is draping as she is floating gives of the magical essence of the book.
7. Dirty Ugly Toy -Dark romance/erotic romance
This is a new obsession of mine. Not only was the story incredible, but this cover is definitely one of the top ones. I almost didn’t include this because I just did a review a couple weeks ago and made a big deal out of the cover. I just love looking at it so I thought it deserved a place on the list. The little gray rips are consistent throughout the text of the novel and I thought that was stunning. Also, enough of her face is covered so my imagination can still have its fun.
8. Fever -Science fiction/teen fiction
Every single book in this series (Chemical Garden) is stunning. They are each within the same vein, but this one is my favorite of the three. The plot is interesting and I enjoyed the books a lot, I just felt like it was a little mild for the incredible world she set up. I don’t remember the exact ages, but I think woman die at eighteen and men at twenty- five. The last aged generation is still alive, but they are about to die out. The thing I love about this is the cover could literally be a scene pulled out of the book. The detail is amazing and each of the other books are the same way.
9. Ink Exchange -Dark Fantasy/teen fiction
This is the book that really started my obsession with books. I had enjoyed reading, but these books took me to another world.  I saw this cover and I had to refrain from sitting down in the bookstore and reading it right then. It is actually the second in the (Wicked Lovely) series and not only is it my favorite cover, but it’s also my favorite book in my favorite series ever. The other books are just as stunning, but the wings are incredible. The tattoo is significant to the story and I love that kind of detail.
*I would love to see some of your favorite covers! Thank you for visiting.
