thinking ab edwin and niko

thinking ab how niko is probably one of his only friends he’s made in the century he’s lived/not lived.

based on what we see of his life and death, he wasn’t popular. based on his personality he’s quite put together, he’s quiet and he watches. he doesn’t take risks really and that leads me to think he didn’t have any good friends. not until charles.

and of course, charles is his best friend. but for whatever their reasons, they hid stuff about their lives from each other. maybe it’s to keep things light, maybe to keep things professional, whatever. i think them making the dead boy detectives agency is their way of connecting without having to connect so seriously— there’s always work to fall back into. it’s lonely, he had a best friend but still was lonely.

but niko, she doesn’t work with them (not officially). she’s just a girl! she was a victim of the supernatural and lived and can now see them, but she’s just a sweet girl who misses her parents and also, doesn’t have any friends! just like edwin hadn’t. but something about her bluntness being so charming, her love for everything, edwin was drawn to it. and then she plays such a big part in edwin accepting himself, he finally has someone he can talk to about these feelings he’s been repressing for nearly 100 years. they can just sit and watch silly shows and she hold no judgement against him for things he doesn’t know!

idk. just edwin’s reaction to niko in the last episode was so heartbreaking, that’s his friend he just lost. the way he screams and then once he’s free all he can do is stare (he can’t even cry but he wants to so badly). charles has to pull him away because he knows death should be coming soon and like. everything else. but edwin physically doesn’t want to leave her. he knows how it feels to have more than one person to confide in now, someone who wants to embrace him fully as is and can give outside perspective and advice and he can trust and trusts him back. how can one go back to loneliness after knowing what it’s like to love and be loved like that?

A very very sweet fic in which Edwin and Charles temporarily have mortal bodies again. It's got a really interesting case, a lot of newly-alive shenanigans, and an emotional punch that I'm still feeling several days later (but don't worry, it's a happy ending). Can't recommend this enough!

2. To the Boy I Wish I'd Never Loved by @countloser

Pairing: Edwin/Cat King | Rating: Explicit | Word Count: 38,153 | Complete? No

Boarding school au with suuuuper fun Cat King/Edwin characterization. The central romance plot unfolds in a very intriguing way, accompanied by sweet boarding school shenanigans featuring the whole gang. I'm on tenterhooks waiting in between updates for this fic, it's one of my faves out there!

3. Dance the Night by Gruoch on AO3

Pairing: Edwin/Charles | Rating: Teen | Word Count: 42,671 | Complete? No

A very fun casefic with some brilliant development of Edwin and Crystal's friendship. I am eating this fic up, the characterization is so good--I've read Gruoch's fics in other fandoms, and trust me you are always safe in their capable hands. Lovers of creature lore, you should give this one a try.

Of course I have read many many more lovely fics since I first watched the show, but alas I do not have the time and space to list them all. But with over 1,000 already (1,049 last time I checked), I'm sure I missed some! So play along and rec your favs* :D (was this a ploy to get people to rec me fics? perhaps. but i think it will spread positivity also, so it's not all selfish ;))

Don't get me wrong I've been loving all the Alive AUs for the boys set in the Edwardian era and in modern day with the girls...

but I would REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE it if someone would write an Alive AU set in Charles' time (1989). Please!!! I promise there is soooo much to explore there!

first damon hill with his hypocrisy, now this quali, can charles catch a break?

probably only thing i will address about the quali. it's a car issue. not a driver issue. it showed that ferrari did indeed need the fp2 quali runs to test it out as charles said

that being said, they sacrificed quali pace for the race pace. charles' race pace looked the best during the fp but during quali in sector one the tyres were cold, then fastest sector, then the tyres overheated in the last sector. if we had no tyre issues, charles would be much better.

also a theory is that charles may be too gentle on his tyres (he's known to take great care of them) and it doesn't suit the slow heating up.

THAT BEING SAID, ferrari still brought no updgrades and it seems like the first set of updates will most likely address the quali issues.

and to quote @gaslightgirlsummer points are scored on sunday and charles’ race pace was crazy good so please can we not panic!! just trying to be rational here, the expectations on charles are way too high already and it's better to sit back and rather look at the data instead of having a breakdowj
