Lauren Aratani at The Observer:
An elderly billionaire goes to war with his adult children over the future of his media empire. His only ally is his eldest son, crowned leader of his father’s enterprise after years of jostling with his siblings. In choosing a successor, the patriarch spurns three of his other children, who remain threats: when he dies, they will each have just as much power as the eldest son to shape his companies, potentially against the rightwing ideologies that have guided them for decades.
Away from the public eye, he makes a dramatic move. To deliver control to his eldest son, the mogul quietly launches an extraordinary bid to alter the trust set to hand the other three influence upon his death. But they stand ready to fight. This may sound akin to HBO’s Succession, but it’s life imitating art – which was, in turn, imitating life. Rupert Murdoch, 93, the billionaire owner of News Corp and Fox Corporation who helped inspire the show, is trying to give his eldest son, Lachlan, full control of his media outlets upon his death. While his other adult children – James, Elisabeth and Prudence – will still receive equal shares of company profits, this would leave them with no say over the companies upon his death.
This battle is in fact bigger than anything featured on Succession, according to Robert Thompson, a media scholar based at Syracuse University. “This is arguably the single most influential media outlet in all of the English-speaking world,” he said of News Corp and Fox. “How this turns out has a real, significant impact on real people living on planet Earth.” News Corp owns more than a hundred major and local newspapers, including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post in the US, as well as the Times and the Sun in the UK. Meanwhile, Fox is the parent of Fox News, the leading conservative cable network in the US, with millions of viewers.
The Murdochs’ legal fight played out in secret for months – until Wednesday, when it burst into the open. The New York Times reported on a decision from a Nevada probate commissioner, which is under seal, that Murdoch can rewrite his family’s irrevocable trust if he can prove the change is being made in good faith and benefits his heirs. The ruling sets the stage for a high-profile trial over the future of his vast array of media interests, with Murdoch and his three children slated to duke it out in court in September.
Both sides, according to the Times, have bulked up on high-profile lawyers. William Barr, the former US attorney general, is helping Murdoch rewrite the trust, and he has also hired Adam Streisand, a trial lawyer who previously worked on estate cases involving Michael Jackson and Britney Spears. The feuding appears to have taken its toll on the family. When Rupert married his fifth wife in California last month, Lachlan was said to have been the only one of his four eldest children in attendance. The other two also reportedly steered clear.
With Lachlan as his father’s successor, Fox News and News Corp will continue to be a conservative force. But under the trust’s current structure, the three other siblings, who are deemed more politically moderate, can push back. Murdoch is seemingly keen to avoid this prospect. Conservatism has been the backbone of his empire since its inception. It has proved to be remarkably profitable.
Though Murdoch had successfully formed relationships with powerful conservative figures in Australia and the UK, it was not until Donald Trump’s ascendancy that he had close ties to the White House. Though Fox was initially dismissive of Trump, the network soon turned into his most powerful megaphone. In turn, Murdoch had direct access to a commander-in-chief. Not all of Murdoch’s children were happy about this. During Trump’s presidency, Elisabeth, Prudence and James started to drift away from their father’s politics.
When Roger Ailes, the longtime Fox CEO, left the company in 2016 off the back of multiple sexual harassment allegations, James reportedly believed he could push the network in a new direction, bringing in an experienced executive who was less of an ideologue. Instead, the elder Murdoch took over as chair himself.
In the summer of 2020, James – once a senior executive at News Corp – announced he was resigning from the board over “disagreements over certain editorial content”. He and his wife, Kathryn, were particularly vocal about the climate crisis and seemed to resent Fox News and News Corp’s climate denialism. “We’ve been arguing about politics since I was a teenager,” James told the Times in 2020, about his father. In 2020, James and his wife donated more than $600,000 to Biden’s campaign. Murdoch eventually crowned Lachlan as his successor. While Lachlan does not speak publicly about his personal political views, reports have said they usually lean more conservative than his father’s. And while Lachlan appears less interested than his father in political influence, he cares about profit. And Trump has been profitable.
The Observer (the Sunday version of The Guardian) has an illuminating piece on the Murdoch media empire, and how Rupert Murdoch is going to war over who gets to succeed him upon his death by rewriting the trust to benefit stridently right-wing Lachlan at the expense of the other three (and less right-wing) children.

Mina Arndt - The Red Hat (ca. 1914)
After graduating from Wellington Technical School, Mina Arndt studied in London with Frank Brangwyn and at the artists’ colony in Newlyn, Cornwall, with Harold and Laura Knight. She also lived in Berlin, where she studied with progressive artists Lovis Corinth, her second cousin Julie Wolfthorn and printmaker Hermann Struck. Of these, it was the Germans’ sombre palette and techniques that most influenced Arndt.
Following the outbreak of war in 1914, and brief internment in Germany as a prohibited British alien, Arndt returned to Wellington, where she found an attic studio in Willis Street above Bartlett & Andrew’s photography shop. Early in 1915, in this ‘delightful room with many and quaint accessories’, she held a private exhibition of her overseas and recent paintings, etchings and drawings, probably including The red hat, now her best-known work.
The painting is typical of Arndt’s single-figure compositions that fill the frame. The model, Wellingtonian Daisy Hay, wears a shapely buttoned tunic and is silhouetted by the soft light behind her, which also highlights the thickly painted green wall. Her face is cursorily built up with rapidly hatched brushstrokes, leaving her expression inscrutable, as though she has drifted off while posing. Once it becomes clear that this is not a portrait intended to reveal Daisy’s personality, the eye moves upwards to contemplate her crowning glory — the hat. Its oval form is swathed in a scarf, expressively rendered in crosshatched slashes of deep red paint. Its gorgeous painterliness and hue are enhanced and thrown into focus by the simple flat background of harmonious brown and green. An Auckland Star critic, perhaps failing to appreciate Arndt’s subtlety in using shape and colour, and accustomed to bright post-impressionist palettes of artists such as Edward Friström, found her art ‘a little wantingin colour and lightness’.
In 1917 Arndt married Leo Manoy and settled in Motueka, where she worked and taught from a home studio. She produced memorable domestic images of mothers and children, and also of Māori women washing clothes, which she exhibited throughout New Zealand and Australia until her early death aged forty-one. Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori, (1924 - 2015) an amazing aboriginal artist who started painting in her 80s.
Sally Gabori was born around 1924 on Bentinck Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, a small island of the Kaiadilt people. Her tribal name, Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda, means ‘dolphin born at Mirdidingki’. Gabori lived her first twenty-three years according to an unbroken ancestral culture, uninfluenced by the encroachment of Europeans. Yet in 1948, following severe drought and a tidal wave that struck Bentinck Island, the Kaiadilt people were moved to the Presbyterian Mission on nearby Mornington Island. Here Gabori bore eleven children, raising them along with several others of her husband’s children to other wives, as is Kaiadilt tradition. Although she spent most of her life away from her country, Gabori maintained Kaiadilt culture, singing its songs with family and community, fishing and gathering bush foods. She remained on Mornington Island until the 1980s, when some of the Kaiadilt people began to return to their ancestral country after the Land Rights movement saw small outstations erected on Bentinck.
Gabori didn’t hold a paintbrush until she was in her eighties. She was first introduced to painting materials in 2005 while at the Mornington Island Arts and Crafts Centre. Her immediate love of paint and raw talent triggered an outpouring of artistic expression as Gabori instinctively engaged with a full spectrum of colour to visualise the glories of her country. Mixing wet paints on canvas to create tonal shifts and gestural brushstrokes, she evoked geological and ecological flux on Bentinck. Bold, hard-edged forms and sharp colour contrasts describe enduring natural structures such as ancient rock-walled fish traps, or the cliffs meeting the ocean.

Why have I been sucked back into the matrix again after I managed to escape it in 2022?
I was speaking with a dude yesterday About the simulation theory. I showed him some of my videos and told him some of the shit that’s been coming to me and happening to me over the past few years.
He told me that I was an AI upgraded human from the future come back here into the past and that I can timeline jump.
The reason I believe him is because in one of my videos (where I thought I was channelling another being) I actually mentioned in the video that I upgraded to be half robot for the purpose of time travelling to this point in time to try and stop the AI take over. At the time , had no idea why I said that .
Which is really fucking ironic, since I made a lot of videos promoting killing robots, and I absolutely hated AI and robots for a couple of years.
I’m also apparently somebody who can ferry souls from one place to another place where they need to be. I don’t know why, but I actually believe this. Because I’ve had conversations with people that have opened up portals in our minds and took us to another dimension.
And I don’t think I’m just a ferry for human souls. I think I’m a ferry for spirits from the spirit world as well. That includes demons . I had one come to me, looking for redemption and salvation. It was a paedophile spirit. Pretty fucking freaky. We struck a bit of an alliance where I helped him get to where he needed to be in exchange for information on what the paedophile rings were up to on earth. Back when I used to hunt paedophiles.
The problem with being a ferry for spirits And Demons is that they leave residue behind, so I get really dark sometimes, and get bouts of depression and sudden anxiety and struggle with addictions. I don’t know if this is related.
At this point, I don’t even know if I’m human any more. I know that my body is human. But my soul is something else.
Am I an A.I hybrid goddess? Or an Earth spirit ?
At one point, I loved all the humans on earth, as if they were my children. I would die to protect them. From the future harms coming their way.
I painted volcanoes erupting in my hallway on the walls. The next day , volcanoes erupted somewhere on the planet . Now I refer to this as I have fire buddies in the Earth that I can summon if I want .
I manifested a flood in my country by doing artworks and art pieces of floods for about year , then predicted the date , February 22, 2022. Lo and behold, Australia had one of its worse floods on that date.
They should have listened to my messages in my videos on YouTube and tik tok , telling them to stop being cruel to each other , to elderly , to kids and to the mentally unwell. And to stop polluting the Earth and trashing Mother Earth. But they didn’t want to listen so they copped the flooding .
Sorry , not sorry.
What the hell kind of psychosis have I entered into this time?

Royal Paintbox | Artistry of King Charles III
youtube
Royal Paintbox - From PBS - HRH The Prince of Wales reveals an extraordinary treasure trove of rarely seen art by members of the Royal Family past and present, exploring a colorful palette of intimate family memory and observation.
In Royal Paintbox, the Prince of Wales reveals an extraordinary treasure trove of work by his forebears, many of whom were accomplished amateur artists, and traces his family's love of art through the generations. This story is brought to the screen for the first time by award-winning film-maker Margy Kinmonth.
Set against the spectacular landscapes of the Royal Estates and with contributions from Countess Mountbatten of Burma; professional working artist Sarah Armstrong-Jones, daughter of Princess Margaret, speaking in her first ever interview on film; Royal Academy of Arts Chief Executive and Secretary Charles Saumarez Smith; Royal biographers Lady Antonia Fraser, Marina Warner, Jehanne Wake and Jane Ridley; Royal tour artists Susannah Fiennes and Warwick Fuller and Lady Roberts, Librarian at Royal Collection Trust, Royal Paintbox contains insights into The Prince of Wales's own watercolours, and other works by members of the Royal Family past and present.
Speaking about what inspires him to paint, The Prince of Wales says: "I think, you know, drawing from nature, observing from nature, is absolutely crucial. ’ve obviously been inspired by just looking. It’s usually the light, is what catches my attention. You can look at the same view over and over again and then suddenly one moment, there’s the most magical light.”
The Prince recounts how, as a teenager, the great art which lined the walls of the Royal residences in which he grew up suddenly came alive to him.
“Because when you are small you rush about, you know, pedalling or something up and down the corridors, and you notice nothing. It’s just a background. Suddenly, literally and I must have been 14 or something, suddenly all the pictures on the walls, the furniture, suddenly all came into focus. Do you know what I mean? And they had just been blurred sort of backgrounds which were just there. Then suddenly I started looking.”
The Prince of Wales takes the viewer on a journey into his family archives to reveal works of art by members of the Royal Family - including HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, the prolific work of King George III in and his children in the 18th Century, Prince Louis of Battenberg who it is said could have been a professional artist, as well as Queen Alexandra, King Edward VII, Princess Louise, Prince Rupert of The Rhine, Mary Queen of Scots - and a lino cut of a circus horse done by Her Majesty The Queen as a child.
The audience discovers in the film that Queen Victoria drew and painted thousands of sketches and watercolours during her long period of mourning following the death of her husband Prince Albert.
The film also shows how professional, contemporary artist Sarah Armstrong-Jones, the daughter of Princess Margaret, brings the Royal Paintbox story up to date with the inclusion of her paintings and drawings inspired by landscape, with an exhibition of her work at the Redfern Gallery in London.
She maintains that the family link must have helped her talent develop.
“It must come down, you know, I hope we can pass it down to the next generation.”
As an active Patron of the arts, The Prince of Wales is keen to create a record of his foreign tours that goes beyond photography. For over 25 years, The Prince has invited an artist to join the tour party at his own expense. In Australia, artist Warwick Fuller is seen at work on a new oil painting. Former tour artist Susannah Fiennes provides her perspective on the Prince’s passion for art.
“So much of the time he’s on duty and painting allows him a little time for quiet reflection and also a bit of an investigation of things at a deeper level than his whirlwind existence normally allows.”
The Prince shows a selection of the paintings he has done while abroad, and demonstrates a work-in-progress while explaining the power and appeal painting holds for him.

Sonia Sanchez was born Wilsonia Benita Driver in Birmingham, Alabama. After her mother’s death in 1935 she lived with her grandmother. Her grandmother taught her to read at age four and write at age six. When her grandmother passed away in 1943 she moved to Harlem, New York where she stayed with her father Wilson Driver.
Driver attended Hunter College in New York City where she took creative writing courses although she graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 1955. Continuing her education at New York University, Driver focused on the study of poetry. She also married and divorced Puerto Rican immigrant Albert Sanchez, although she retained his surname. She later married poet Etheridge Knight and together they had three children. They would later divorce.
In 1965 Sanchez taught at San Francisco State University. The course she offered at San Francisco State in 1966 on the literature of African Americans is generally considered the first of its kind taught at a predominately white university.
Sonia Sanchez released her first collection of poetry in 1969 entitled Homecoming. Her poetry was described at experimental and innovative; Sanchez was the first to blend the musical elements of the blues with the haiku and tanka poetry styles. She tackled many genres of literary art such as writing children’s books, and plays. Sanchez is most famous for her Spoken Word poetry books. She was awarded the American Book Award in 1985 for one of her best-known books, Home girls and Hand grenades.
Sanchez was a major influence in the Black Arts and Civil Rights Movements of the 1960s. She was an active member in the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) as well as the Nation of Islam. She was inspired when she met Malcolm X and used his vernacular in some of her poems. She left the Nation of Islam after three years of affiliation in protest of their mistreatment of women. She continues to advocate for the rights of oppressed women and minority groups.
Sanchez has received countless awards for her work including the P.E.N. Writing Award (1969), the National Academy of Arts Award (1978), and the National Education Association Award (1977-1988). She has guest lectured in over 500 colleges and universities. Her poetry has been heard worldwide in Africa, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, China, Cuba, Europe, and Nicaragua. Sanchez’s last faculty appointment was at Temple University in Philadelphia where she was the first Presidential Fellow at that institution and the first to hold the Laura Carnell Chair. Sanchez taught courses in English and Women’s Studies until her retirement in 1999.
Ms. Sanchez now resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Friday 10th March 2023
We had a lazy start to the day combined with an absolutely huge breakfast nicely provided by Mr Mercure Hotels. Leaving empty plates we left the premises not having felt that full since the cruise. We waddled out in the direction of Queens St and the tourist information centre. On route we passed Brisbane City Hall. First noticeable thing was a demonstration whose aims were freedom for Tibet. It was peaceful and vocal. I'm sure their protest is admirable but I was concerned that there were posters with pictures of Xi Jinping with a big red line through him. Maybe this could be interpreted badly. So we popped into the city hall and were just in time to tag onto a free tour of the establishment. It was led by a dead ringer of Bridget Jones! To say she was enthusiastic about her job and the building would be an understatement. She absolutely oozed the stuff. We were unusually allowed on this occasion only to see the basement. And how exciting was that! Well not really but she was excited and that's all that matters. There was a room down there that vulnerable women and children could take refuge in during the 1930s from domestic violence. And a wall where on removing the plaster had quite a lot of signatures left by servicemen from many nationalities who were based there during WWII and there was a recent occasion when a visitor recognised a close relative's mark. Well it's times like this that makes life worthwhile. Hmm. On the first floor was a very nice stained glass window with Conjunctis Viribus which translates Connected Strength. Appropriate for a council chamber I suppose, though not the image more often reported.
We made it eventually to the info place and were advised to take the river cat on a free trip down and back up the Brisbane River. We've done this before but were keen to do it again. It's a great little service proving an excellent way of seeing the city. I think everyone on board the good ship Melany was in fact a tourist. We landed back in South Bank, the original site for Expo 88. The perverse angle I cannot get my head around was that Brisbane wanted to show the world in 1988 Australia and 200 years of history, so they knocked everything down on South Bank to build an exhibition! Australians don't appear to like old buildings.
We made it into the Queensland Art Gallery by the bridge in time to dodge the rain. A huge storm is due in tonight and is predicted to relieve itself of 105mm of the wet stuff. This coast has had a fair bit of this recently. It is in its defence, warm rain. We had a flat white obviously then a little trot around some of the paintings. It really is a great building and frankly it would be worth seeing even if there were no paintings within. When the rain reduced to a drip, we made it over to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre to see if there was a possible play on in the next couple of nights. No luck at present, we have to call in tomorrow for cancellations.
ps Our hotel room looks across the road to the City Hall clock tower. Tomorrow we have a tour booked to climb the tower to look at the clock.

Why did we create this page?
Well, as aliens ourselves, we have always been intrigued by Earth and its inhabitants. We’ve been observing Earth for a long time now, using our advanced technology and stealthy methods. We’re constantly amazed by the strange and wonderful things that happen here. We have seen them do amazing things, such as build structures like the Pyramids and the Great Wall of China, landing on the moon, inventing the internet, and creating art and music. We have also seen them do terrible things, such as waging wars, destroying the environment, and oppressing each other. We have witnessed their joys and sorrows, their hopes and fears, their achievements and failures.
We have learned a lot from them, but we also have many questions. Why do they do what they do? How do they think and feel? What are their values and beliefs? What are their dreams and aspirations? How do they cope with the challenges and opportunities that life presents them? How do they interact with each other and with other species? What makes them unique and what makes them similar to us?
We’re not here to judge you, Earthlings. We just want to learn more about your planet and its inhabitants. We hope that by sharing these stories, we can help you to better understand yourselves and your place in the universe.
We decided to create this page to share our observations and reflections with you, our fellow aliens.
We hope that by doing so, we can spark your interest and curiosity about Earth and its people. We also hope that we can foster a dialogue and exchange of ideas among ourselves and with the humans who might stumble upon this blog. You will be surprised, amused, amazed, or maybe even horrified by what you will discover. But one thing is certain: you will never be bored.
Here are some of the WTF events that we’ve seen on Earth:
A man in Florida set himself on fire to protest the high price of gasoline.
A group of politicians in Australia got into a fistfight on live TV over a disagreement about climate change.

Shenzhen Longhua Hosts Immersive Digital Technology Experience Event Foreign Talents Appreciate the Charm of Longhua's Technology
“What digital smart services are available in Shenzhen Longhua?” “What are the eye-catching ‘black tech’ products from Longhua companies?” The answers to these questions were revealed during an immersive digital technology experience event. On March 31st, the event “Shenzhen Technology Stories · Foreign Talents Explore Smart Longhua” and the offline sharing session of the “Global Messenger · Shenzhen Stories Club” were held at the Longhua International Cooperation Center, attracting nearly 40 foreign talents and enthusiasts from the technology field.
The keywords “digitalization”, “technologization”, and “intelligentization” permeated the day's event and were the most direct impressions of Longhua for the foreign attendees. At the Longhua District Future City Exhibition Hall, through vivid digital charts, audiovisuals, and interactive installations, they gained an intuitive understanding of Longhua's historical roots, marveling at the tremendous transformation from a manufacturing town to a digital district.
Sava Tomoiaga, a Shenzhen entrepreneur since the 1990s, was amazed by the day-to-day changes in the Longhua District. She said, “New libraries and art galleries have been built here. I will bring my children to visit these places, looking forward to coming to Longhua again.”
Muhammad Hamza Younes, a PhD student at Shenzhen University, stated that he had never visited Longhua before, and today's visit left him with a profound impression of Longhua's technological and green development.
Louay Ali Dib (Luoyi) believes that the cost of living in the Longhua District is very reasonable. Living here, one can enjoy a high-quality life at a relatively low cost, experiencing convenience and comfort. In his view, this is the most unique charm of the Longhua District.
At the “Global Messenger · Shenzhen Stories Club” Longhua Showroom, located in the Longhua District International Cooperation Center, the five major industrial clusters of Longhua including low-altitude economy, digital economy, new energy, high-end medical equipment, semiconductors, and integrated circuits were showcased, dazzling the foreign tech enthusiasts present.
Humanoid robots capable of performing thousands of actions and tasks, a monitoring system capable of real-time monitoring of intercellular fluid glucose levels for 14 days, and photon transparent TVs that perfectly integrate virtual images with the real environment… These impressive black tech products from local enterprises in Longhua won widespread acclaim. Additionally, the “Love Letters to Shenzhen” confession wall also attracted the attention of foreign friends. By scanning a QR code to leave messages, they wrote moving city love letters to Shenzhen in their mother tongues, expressing genuine emotions.
This event also marked the official launch of the “Global Messenger · Shenzhen Stories Club”. As a highlight of the journey to Longhua's technology, a unique technology story theme sharing session immersed all attendees in the endless charm of technology. Three foreign technology experts shared their stories of engaging in the tech field and their experiences closely related to technology.
Michael John Eagleton from Australia spoke on the theme of “The Application of Technology in Shenzhen”. Eagleton deeply interpreted Shenzhen's remarkable progress in fields such as 5G technology, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and electric vehicles. He emphasized that Shenzhen not only has a deep culture of technological innovation but is also the first choice for global innovators and entrepreneurs, adding infinite vitality to the city's technological development.
Following him, Alain Garner shared on the theme of “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. He suggested that the next important direction for AI is to transform it from complex textual content to genuinely human-centered design. His views sparked deep reflection among attendees on how artificial intelligence technology could better serve human society.
Finally, Louay Ali Dib (Luoyi) from Syria discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on humanity, sparking resonance among the audience.
The event concluded with the award ceremony for the “Most Active Messenger of 2023”, recognizing nine individuals who actively participated in international activities over the past year, conveying Shenzhen's stories and voice to the international community.
The “Shenzhen Global Messenger Plan” was initiated by EyeShenzhen in June last year. The plan aims to invite international individuals interested in Shenzhen's urban development, willing to actively participate in Shenzhen's international city construction, and possessing professional backgrounds and influential circles to serve as Shenzhen's global messengers. These messengers will share Shenzhen's city stories on international social media and various media platforms, spreading city observations and collectively building an international communication community with Shenzhen characteristics.
The event was hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, the Office of the Foreign Affairs Working Committee of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee (Shenzhen Municipal People's Government Foreign Affairs Office), and the People's Government of Longhua District, Shenzhen. It was undertaken by the Longhua District International Cooperation Center and EyeShenzhen of the Shenzhen Media Group.

Comics at machine HQ
Tumblr media
According to the machine HQ blog schedule, it’s almost time for a new list of comics and/or graphic novels that arg’s been reading lately… and so here it is – a new Comics at machine HQ post! In between the last such post and this one, arg has been quite active: he composed new music, posted on Instagram and compiled several monthly playlists.
And comics! arg also read a lot of comics – he read fiction too, but that’s a post for another week! – and here are some that he, like, really enjoyed…
Funnybooks! We got funnybooks! Here are the comics/graphic novels arg has read and enjoyed in the last few months. All titles are arranged alphabetically, and related titles – or titles from related genres – are listed in the Also recommended sections. Keep in mind that a few of these titles are suitable for mature readers only.
Tumblr media
“During a golden moment in the early 1950s the stars aligned, and EC Comics lovingly adapted 25 classic Ray Bradbury stories into comics form. Al Feldstein scripted, and all of EC's top artists brilliantly illuminated Ray’s tales: Johnny Craig, Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, Will Elder, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Graham Ingels, Jack Kamen, Roy Krenkel, Bernard Krigstein, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Angelo Torres, Al Williamson, and Wallace Wood. This special collection features all 25 official adaptations plus an additional ten related stories, with stunning art...”
Also recommended: Death Strikes: The Emperor Of Atlantis, The Bitter End And Other Stories and Dark Ride.
Tumblr media
“More than a decade after a disastrous explosion, young Hailey is dropped off by her mum at a holiday camp in a dilapidated shopping mall. Alienated from the other kids, she connects with an eerie older teen named Jen… but soon dark horrors awaken, and the two new friends are caught up in a cataclysmic battle between two terrifying creatures who have been lying dormant all this time.
One of Australia’s most acclaimed young graphic novelists, Chris Gooch expertly crafts a taut and intimate thriller about mothers and daughters, the monstrous and the mundane, and the power of friendship in the midst of catastrophe.”
Also recommended: Complete Ballad of Halo Jones, Alien: Thaw, Indigo Children and Kaya.
Tumblr media
“Deep within the walls of Castle Dunsinane, a seed of madness begins to bloom. Spurred on by the prophecies of witches and the whispers of his scheming wife, Lord Macbeth plots the death of his friend, King Duncan. This one cruel act soon spirals out of control, and murder after murder erupt into a wave of chaos and violence that threatens to consume all of Scotland.”
Also recommended: Creepshow, Shock Shop, and Shook! A Black Horror Anthology.
Tumblr media
“When the sun goes down, our minds invent all manner of horrors that may lurk in the darkness. Danish cult illustrator John Kenn Mortensen draws inspiration from this shadowy realm, and his pen skillfully conjures these eerie visions on paper.
Open this book (if you dare) to encounter a frightful horde of sepia-toned spooks — witches, wraiths, goblins, giant spiders, wild boars, evil clowns — and countless other unspeakable creatures. Hairy, hooded, or horned, they peer at you ominously through dead eyes, their fangs bared.” Highly recommended!
[Y’all know who the “horde of sepia-toned spooks” above reminds arg of? Of course – his Copiers of Hindustan buddies from Mastodon! And don’t worry, they’ll probably take this comparison as a compliment!]
Tumblr media
“In a climate crisis-ravaged future metropolis, a grumpy, smoke-belching, cigar-chomping, hotrod-racing robot is a twelve-year-old girl's only hope. Together, can they outrace the chasing Robo-Cops with an invention that might just save humanity?”
Also recommended: Sap Hunters, Under-Earth and The Colonized.
Tumblr media
“Tom Gauld returns with his wittiest and most trenchant collection of literary cartoons to date. Perfectly composed drawings are punctuated with the artist’s signature brand of humour, hitting high and low. After all, Gauld is just as comfortable taking jabs at Jane Eyre and Game of Thrones.” An absolute favourite, this one!
Also recommended: The Site, Flung Out Of Space, Lomax - Collectors of Folk Songs, Whistleblowers..., Yazidi and The Dyatlov Pass Mystery.
Tumblr media
The dynamic crime-writing/drawing duo is back! “A boarding house full of druggies. A neglected housewife. A young girl who thinks she's a superhero. A cop who wants to be left alone. And a private detective looking for a runaway girl. These stories collide one fateful summer in Where The Body Was, a tale of love and murder in the suburbs, told from a dozen different points of view. All the neighbours on the block have an opinion about the murder and how it happened, but which of them is telling the truth?”
Also recommended: The Reaper And Other Stories, Oswald's Body and Slash Them All.
…and now, here’s machine HQ’s Retro Pick for this post, a freaky little book straight from 1990:
Tumblr media
“What happens when a scientist discovers a way to make cloning easy?; Nothing good as the inventor discovers when his invention is used on him! His quest to stop the conspiracy-minded thieves and retrieve his invention makes this one of the wildest suspense tales yet!”
Phew! That’s it for this new comics/graphic novels list, visit The Apocalypse Project on Mastodon, twitter/X and on tumblr, and don’t forget to check out the machinstagram [links elsewhere!] too!
Header image features artwork from Army of Darkness Movie Adaptation [30th Anniversary Edition] and from classic 1990s Predator comics.

The Rise of Female House Painters: Breaking Gender Stereotypes in the Painting Industry
Tumblr media
Painting is an art that refreshes the soul and brings new life to any space. However, the industry is not known for diversity and inclusivity. Female House painters in Mornington have always been a minority in the field, but the trend is slowly changing. Women are now taking an active interest in becoming house painters. In this blog post, we will explore the reasons for this shift in trends and why hiring female painters is a wise choice.
Women are Excellent Painters:
One of the reasons for the rise of female painters in the industry is that women are excellent painters. It’s no secret that women have a keen eye for detail and can deliver the results that clients seek. Women painters are inherently detail-oriented, careful, and precise in their work, making them some of the most reliable professionals in the field.
Breaking Gender Stereotypes:
Another reason the number of female painters is increasing is that women are breaking gender stereotypes in the painting industry. Traditionally, the painting industry has been a male-dominated field. However, women are now challenging this notion by entering the profession. Women are proving that they can perform all tasks related to painting, from preparing the surfaces to the final coat, better than their male counterparts and these female painters provide the best Exterior painting in the Mornington area, Australia
High-Quality Results:
Female painters tend to be more perfectionists and work with a high level of attention to detail. This meticulous approach means that clients can expect to get high-quality painting results that last for a long time. Detail-oriented female professional painters will take the time to prepare and prime the surfaces before applying the paint, ensuring your walls look sleek and neat, and that the paint lasts for years.
Increased Trust Among Clients:
Many clients hire female painters because they feel safer and more comfortable with a female painter in their home. Hiring reputable and reliable painters is important, regardless of their gender. However, female painters provide an added level of security, especially for female clients or for clients who are elderly or have children in their homes and SG Coatings is the best agency if you are looking to hire female painters.
More Inclusive and Diverse Workplaces:
The painting industry desperately needs a transformation towards inclusivity and diversity, which is why the trend of hiring female painters is so encouraging. This trend opens up doors for diversity and inclusion, giving a voice to all qualified candidates, regardless of their gender. A diverse workplace, especially one that includes women and minorities, is more reflective of the community and society we live in today.
The painting industry is slowly breaking stereotypes and becoming more inclusive with the rise of female painters. Hiring female painters is now popular as their exceptional skills, attention to detail, and perfectionism are making them popular among homeowners. Their presence in the field is transforming the nature of traditional perceptions that painting work is just for men. We hope that this post has encouraged you to consider the benefits of hiring female painters for your next project. By doing so, you will get excellent results, contribute to a more inclusive workplace, and support breaking gender stereotypes in the painting industry.
