Week 8- Ethical Communication
The quote I chose from the video is "We can all be vulnerable in the face of a story". The speaker ( Chimamanda) was very transparent and open with the audience during this ted talk. I liked how she reflected on a time when Chimamanda and her previous roommate talked about her background. Her roommate assumed she didn't know much about the American culture because she was identified as Nigerian. Her roommate had a lot of pity on Chimandna based on a story of a catastrophe she experienced. This single story caused chimanda's roommate to misrepresent Chimamanda as an individual. This story has taught me to be more open-minded about people of different races. It also shows how easy it is to misunderstand a person by a single story we heard. These single stories can create stereotypes, which then result in possibly hurting someone else's feelings.

It's all in the eyes of the beholder. A common saying "Beauty is in the eye of the "beholder" What does it mean? A defination I found read that....... .....Beauty doesn't exsit on it's own but is created by observers. 🌻🌻🌻My question is....... who are the observers??? Society Culture Law Colour blind ignorants Human beings Eyes Mind 🌻🌻🌻 The characteristics that are universally acknowledged and considered to be "beautiful" High cheekbones, small chin, nose full lips, clear skin, straight teeth, shaped bum/ buttocks that have a rounded shape in synchronized unison, strong jaw line wired inluck of genes. The list can go on and on. 🌻🌻🌻What is an important note to SELF... is that Beauty will not be seen by all humans in the same way. Beauty is objective with subjective components that are sometimes imposed to an extended complex, leading to low self-esteem, self-worth, confidence in your skin colour or self-regard. 🌻🌻🌻You are beautiful and loved daughter of Africa. You have ALWAYS BEEN BEAUTIFULLY MADE AND YOUR FEATURES ARE UNIQUE. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #africandaughter #africanwomen #empowered #zimgirls ##zimqueensnotsorry #ruvenheko #madambosszim #chimanda #tereraitrent #proudchocolate #iamhamamat #zimbabwean #zimbabwe #africanoutfits #africanheadwrap #zimcelebs #checkoutafrica #apforg #sheleadsafrica #africastyle #okayafrica #africanpotriats #faceofafrica https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx75Gq0jxnu/?igshid=16dy4xpcshlt9

Zikora by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This short story, I believe Adichie’s first fiction since Americanah, is lovely. Lovely probably isn’t the right word here but it is engaging, interesting, draws you in immediately etc etc. My only criticism? Too short!!!!! I wanted more, I wanted to know what Zikora was going to do next.
I don’t think I was doing this blog when I read Americanah but here’s a link to my review of Purple Hibiscus also by Adichie - https://joebloggshere.tumblr.com/post/149547863886/purple-hibiscus-by-chimamanda-ngozi-adichie
Recommend.
