MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) is a human rights crisis of violence against Indigenous women in Canada and the United States
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quick facts:
4 of 5 Native women will experience violence
1/3 of Native women will experience sexual violence (and over 2/3 of that is committed by non-natives)
Murder is our 3rd leading cause of death
On some reservations MMIWG2S are murdered at 10x the national average rate
In general native women and girls are raped at twice the average national rate
According to a report by USA today, native women also go missing at the twice average national rate
Nearly all rapes are perpetuated by off reservations settlers who also face no legal repercussions (legal loopholes state you must be on tribal ground to be persecuted by tribal police and most don't stick sround)
Less than 1% of MMIW cases are logged
It's been awhile since I've since Ive posted about this, but it's a very important topic and one that's especially important to me right now.
Some of you following me have all the context clues but I'll say it plainly here on this post. My cousin is one of the many MMIW that have died awful deaths. I myself am one of the natives who've experiences violence and sexual violence. The article is right. I don't know a native who hasn't. And that shouldn't have to be our reality.
But it doesn't change without more support and we don't get support by keeping people in the dark. Unfortunately resources are directly tied to public interest in an issue. The actual MMIW site for example says it's on hiatus when you go to the resource section.
So please share this so that someone else can learn and become an ally to the cause. The way people treat native women, girls, and two spirits is awful and deserves more attention than it's getting.
May 5th is MMIW awareness day; please wear red, share our posts, schedule a vigil, make your own graphics/posts in support, etc. Make some time to show you care that day.
Just don't use the red hand over your mouth, this is representative of the violent silence MMIW are forced to keep in their graves and how those of us alive must speak for them. Its a heavy symbol that carries responsibility so it's best left alone if you aren't indigenous.

Happy late international women's day! 💟
Daily reminder that you cant be a feminist if you only care about white women issues 🙃

Women in Israeli Damoun prison are exposed to aggravated retaliatory penalties.
The Commission of Detainees' Affairs emphasized that women detainees in Damoun prison, especially those who have been arrested from Gaza, are suffering from difficult detention conditions and exposed to aggravated penalties on a daily basis.
According to Addameer Organization, the majority of Palestinian women prisoners are subjected to some form of psychological torture and ill-treatment throughout the process of their arrest and detention, including various forms of sexual violence that occur such as beatings, insults, threats, body searches, and sexually explicit harassment. Upon arrest, women detainees are not informed where they are being taken and are rarely explained their rights during interrogation.
The Commission confirmed that the Israeli occupation forces have mounted a massive detention campaign afflicting women in the West Bank, Jerusalem and Gaza, indicating that all of them have been subjected to torture and assault during arrest and investigation.
The commission stated that the IPS intended to isolate women detainees, committing the worst crimes against them, represented in:
- sudden inspection at any moment
- they suffer from the cold weather, due to lack of clothes and covers
- poor quality and quantity food
- overcrowding in cells and rooms due to the high number of detainees in the same place
- IPS confiscated all electrical appliances such as radios and TVs, etc.
The commission demonstrated that the aforementioned practices represent a small part of their suffering, and called on the international community to denounce the Israeli practices against Palestinian detainees, in which they violated international norms and laws.
Disclaimer: the first picture was a reenactment of a street play to bring awareness to the cause of unjust detentions by Israeli forces.

"if I don't speak over lesbians, they won't listen to me, a man! so I am basically forced to speak over these women at their own events. they made a space just for themselves and when I invaded it, they won't even all shut up and listen to me like women usually do!"

Moid
I've seen this word thrown around recently.
Apparently it is an insult. Supposedly it stems from the MRA insult "femoid" which may have been a mashup of "female/android" or "female/mongoloid" depending on who you ask.
Ironically I saw some radfems using this word to describe men pushing back against their claim that women were killed if they ever showed any creativity, historically.
I mean, that's reaching, if it's anything.
But it's downright wrong at worst. The claim was that 99% of everything was invented and built by men, and the radfems' retort was "women were burned alive" (referencing witches at the stake).
Firstly, while there was some witch burning, most of it stopped centuries before the lion's share of inventions were made. By men. So it's also anachronistic. And here's the thing:
Feminists are SO lacking in creativity that they can't come up an insult on their own, they have to take what men have created, and make it lesser.
Fe(moid).
They reduced what men had already created, but with not a letter of originality or creativity.
Ironically proving the point being made.
Women. Stick to creating babies. Lol

even tho I'm a cis lesbian, I hate seeing people say stuff like "I hate men" "KAM" and "cis guys are the worst" and yk, anything else about men being bad because;
1. The whole point of feminism is that nobody should be treated differently purely because of their gender
2. Saying all men suck is making an assumption based on an irrelevant category, and barely any different to ideologies like "all women want is your wallet"
3. By specifying cis guys you are separating trans and cis men, as if trans guys aren't literally men, which results in you being transphobic (regardless of whether or not that was your intent)
4. Men who see people online talking about hating men are probably going to be offended - and they have every right to be - which over time only results in them becoming more sexist (and the last thing we need are more tate-riders)
5. There are shitty people in every gender category - men, women, non binary or whatever else one identifies as, because gender holds no regard to moral value
There's probably a million other reasons but at the end of the day it's shitty to say that you don't care for men because let's be honest, we shouldn't be making assumptions based on gender because that's kind of why feminists have been getting pissed at men for like thousands of years...

🔻Mother’s day in times of genocide—the occupation authorities continue to deprive 28 Palestinian mothers from staying with their children, as the occupation arrests 67 female prisoners in its prisons until today under extremely difficult conditions. This year has been one of the bloodiest years for mothers and women amid the comprehensive aggression and genocide against the Palestinian people in all places, where Palestinian women and mothers are subjected to various forms of systematic and serious abuses of their rights, particularly the female prisoners.
The journey of suffering begins for Palestinian mothers from the moment of the first arrest, which often occurs late at night when homes are violently raided. Mothers are frequently arrested and tortured in front of their children. The suffering continues during transportation to detention and interrogation centers, and later during their prolonged imprisonment, separated from their sons and daughters.
In related context to Mother’s Day and throughout the years of occupation, the occupation authorities also prevent hundreds of Palestinian mothers from visiting their children in occupation prisons, whether on the pretext of security reasons for the prisoner or their families. This is in addition to the treatment endured by the mothers of detainees and prisoners, which is devoid of dignity at military checkpoints as they make their way to the prisons. They are subjected to humiliating searches at times by female soldiers of the prison service and inhumane treatment from guards and soldiers. It is worth noting that the occupation suspended prison visits since October 7th and isolated prisoners completely from each other. Furthermore, a policy of arresting mothers and women as hostages to pressure their children into surrendering to the occupation army has emerged recently. Prisoners’ institutions have been able to document several cases of mothers being arrested by the occupation army and detained to pressure their relatives into surrendering themselves.

this is TERF rhetoric because it is describing reality. it is TERF rhetoric because it is making activism for women, lesbians and bisexual women especially, possible. it is TERF rhetoric because it helps women.
