FUMI KANEKO and VADIM MUNTAGIROV rehearse the roles of King Leontes and Queen Hermione for The Royal Ballet's production of "The Winter's Tale" (2024).
Wow! Quite a few surprises on the Mariinsky playbill. First, Alexandra Khiteeva is cast in the premiere performance of Alexander Sergeev's new Concert Dances aka "Scenes de Ballet," to music by Stravinsky. I haven't seen much choreography by Sergeev, so not sure what to expect. I did see snippets of Twelve and was a bit baffled to be honest. But keeping an open mind.
I'm still digging into the history of Stravinsky's score and found that other big name choreographers have tackled this music.

Given the creative partnership between Balanchine and Stravinsky, I wondered if he created a ballet to this — or used it elsewhere. I'm not sure, but still reading...
Is there a slime tutorial list for ballets? I am dying to see Christopher Wheeldon's Alice's adventures in wonderland ballet but I can't afford the cheapest seats at $325 per ticket. I tried, but it's not possible to justify that. I would love to see it though.
When will we be free of Wheeldon and McGregor?? Are their roles lifetime postings? I'm not convinced either has anything more to add to the company that improves over the existing rep
I personally don’t mind either of them so much (Wheeldon’s latest full length aside, and even that wasn’t really much to do with his choreo as a general problem of being too overwhelming with the story). I’m not a fan of McGregor’s work personally but I can see the merit in his work. I think most people would argue the Dante Project was a good addition to the rep, for example.
It’s pretty common for choreographers associated with a company to stay there for most if not all of their career.
Honestly I don’t have too much of a problem with this, personally.

Nach all dem dummen Zeug endlich mal wieder etwas Hochkultur, passend zur Jahreszeit, auch wenn es gar nicht so wirkt, The Winter's Tale. Nach Shakespeare! Getanzt! Liebe, Eifersucht, Tod, Verdammnis, Verzeihung, Auferstehung, alles geboten. Es ist ganz außerordentlich wunderbar. Zenaida Yanowsky stielt wieder allen die Show.
Habe dann auch nachgeschaut, was dieser Joby Talbot sonst noch so komponiert hat. Das letzte war der Score zu Wonka. Soviel zur Hochkultur.
