For Easter, I thought it would be fitting to rate the sea bunny! These little guys are REALLY little, they’re less than an inch long- Since they’re nudibranchs, which by definition have no bones or shells, these squishy little fellas get maximum chunk. Sea bunnies are super recognizable and adorable with their little “ears” and “fur” (both are actually sensory organs), high funk. Nudibranchs are slimy little guys, and sea bunnies in specific are actually super slimy and poisonous, so of course they have maximum gunk.

Once again we come across a creature I had never heard of before today. Apparently they’re very bony, but since they have such a square shape to them I give them a little chunk. They have a very very funky look and a strange gimmick, high funk. These fish are also very slimy (as found in my brief googling of them), high gunk.

Overall: 9/10

Its eyes are so full of hope. Its mouth is always agape in a state of wonder. Its tummy goes suck suck.

It is beautiful.

It’s been a long time coming, and anyone who’s been following this blog for any amount of time is well aware of my obsession with these funny wiggly boys.

Moray eels. My beloveds. Look at that girth, high chunk. The slime layer that makes it so that I cannot hug them without a proper wetsuit or fabric layer, absolute gunk. The big squishable cheeks, the weird sticky-out-y tube nostrils, the two mouths, incredibly funky.

Overall: 10/10

Everyone has a selfish dream of what they would do if they won the lottery. Mine is simple: buy a giant saltwater tank and fill it with 3 giant moray eels. (Preferably of different colors/patterns so I can tell them apart)

Everyone also has a dream of channeling their inner Disney Princess with a wild animal: I want to hug a moray eel.

It was my birthday on the 18th, so as a gift to myself, I rate my beloveds.

the CROCODILE ICEFISH:

Today is the crocodile icefish! (also called the white-blooded fish because apparently they don’t have hemoglobin in their blood) Awhile ago I did the other half of this anonymous user’s request, so today I finally finish their ask!

They are very bony, low chunk. The crocodile icefish is super funky though, getting style points from its cool frill and see-through bits. Also, it doesn’t have red blood cells, which is very weird and I’m kind of jealous. Extreme funk. I couldn’t find much in my brief research about their slime or mucous secretion, so I am left to assume that if they have any, it’s probably not that remarkable. Low gunk.

Overall: 8/10

It reminds me of something I would see in the game Subnautica! Also they’re really cute. Look at its little face.

the ORCA WHALE:

Orcas! They’re so cool- though they aren’t actually whales. Orcas are dolphins, but they’re so big that they’re referred to as whales.

Their chunk is incredible, but only dampened by the fact that they do indeed have bones. High chunk. Orcas are iconic, look at that bold black and white patterning; Their beautiful smiles; and their incredible brains… maximum funk. From my brief research, it seems that Orcas do secrete mucous, but it’s the normal way mammals do (eyes, internal organs, etc.) so they get low gunk.

Overall Rating: 9.7/10

I’ve never had too much of an interest in orcas (it was mostly from my “not like other girls” mentality holding me back from enjoying popular things) but they’re REALLY cool. They’re so incredibly smart and their hunting patterns are amazing.

My favorite orca related fact is that the biggest predators (physically, not numerically) for the North American Moose are orca whales!!

Horseshoe crab!! I love them! I see them (their molted shells) a lot on the beaches in Massachusetts and have gotten to see them crawling around in the water a few times before too! I love their weird little crab feet. They may be mostly shell, but their shell looks chunky so they can get a little chunk, as a treat. They’re so cool and unique, maximum funk. From my experience touching them, very dry. No gunk.

Overall: 9/10

Here you go, crab enjoyer. I know you’ve been asking for coconut crab for a while now lol

What a big guy! Though it is a crab and therefore majority carapace instead of skin or fat, it does have a big ol’ badonker so it can get a little chunk. While it is a pretty regular looking crab in my opinion, I do think that it is recognizable when compared to other crabs. Especially since I believe that it’s one of the largest (or THE largest) species of land crab. It gets to have a little higher than average funk. I could not find any information on its slime or mucous secretion, so I am left to assume that it is a dry little guy.

Overall: 5/10

A very solid and interesting crab. I feel like I would find them a lot more interesting if I could see one in real life, but from photos alone it does not have the ‘wow factor’ for me.

Crabs are all exoskeleton, so low chunk. The red egg crab also generally looks like most other crabs, low funk. I couldn’t find anything on their mucous or slime secretion, so I am left to assume there is little to none. Low gunk.

Overall Rating: 8/10

They are truly so creechur. I would slap a little slab of butter and pour some syrup on top of this walking pancake. Crabs are adorable, truly. What a guy!!

I love how different sharks can look from each other. I just keep comparing great whites with these guys and laughing at how crazy evolution is.

They’re so very cute but definitely more bony, though I’m not entirely sure if they have bones… (All websites I checked for information mentioned their spines, some saying their spines are used to make jewelry, but I can’t tell if they mean spine like a spike or spine like the bone) The high chunk rating is going off the interpretation that, like other sharks, they have cartilage instead of bone. Seem to have a small mucous layer, low gunk. Very cute smiles and unique appearance, high funk.

—Also, they lay spiral shaped eggs!

Overall: 9/10

sorry if you've answered this before, but what is the chunkiest, funkiest, and gunkiest animal you've ever rated?

Hmm… of the creatures so far, I think the chunkiest funkiest and gunkiest creature I have rated (in my opinion) is probably the moray eel.

I’m super biased though, since moray eels are actually how I came up with this whole blog! I used to call them my “chunky funky gunky boys”, which eventually spiraled off into a whole rating system.

Also I like moray eels.

Though her bones hold her back from pure chunkiness, she is a round little creature that feels a lot like a waterbed— squishy but with a firmness to her. Like a bowling ball made of jelly. High chunk. My little stinky’s appearance is very odd. She has sunken in eyes and little patches of cream about them that make her look perpetually upset, unamused, or perturbed. Her paws are teeny tiny and I have many bruises in the shape of her stabby little feet all over my legs. She has oddly defined cheekbones for a cat, which add to the perpetual frown on her tiny face. Also her head is TINY. It’s like literally 4 inches wide. TINY. She looks like a pigeon. Also, she has a “W” on her chest, isn’t that neat? High funk. You’re probably wondering how a cat can be gunky. I mean, they don’t produce anything more than the normal mucuses of mammals? Well… Twix has IBS, so you can imagine… Some gunk.

Overall Rating: I would die for her/10

I’ve had Twix for about 7 years and I love her with all of my being. We (my family) found her dying of starvation in a shed at around 4 weeks old and now she is the dappled little bowling ball that you see here. She is my mimi-moomoo, my buubleewuublee, my little angel, my chunk, my chunky-monkey, my chunkadamunkadamunkadachunkada, and mi pequeñita rechonchita. I adore her.
