So, you weren't actually here to pilfer our food or give me heartburn about something you did on set again?" Josh prompts once Buck's done inhaling his food, grimacing and handing Buck a napkin as he picks a stray bit of lettuce off his shirt. "Oh right uh yeah." God, how does he even start a conversation? "So you guys are… Gay. Right?" Not like that, Buck thinks with a grimace, ducking his head sheepishly as Karen laughs. "Yeah, sure, we're gay," she snorts, taking a sip of her drink and raising her eyebrows to get Buck to continue. He's never felt more like a bull in a china shop here. Wasn't gaydar supposed to be a thing? Couldn't they both just look at him and tell he'd had some sort of life changing gay experience last weekend and save him having to open his big, dumb mouth again. "Right, right, uh so-So you're gay-" Karen laughs again. Buck gives her a pleading look. "You're gay and say you were uh, dating a man," he glances between Josh and Karen, 'Or I guess a woman, in your case, and um, if they asked you to just uh, keep it between the two of you? Like, should you be worried?" The silence that follows feels like waiting for the axe to drop. "Buck," Josh starts. He sounds delighted. "Are you saying- Is this all just hypothetical?" Karen scoots a little closer, tucking her chin in her hand as she nods encouragingly, goading Buck to continue. "Uh yeah, hypothetical and also maybe a little bit also. Not?" Karen rolls her lips, making a high pitched "mhm!" sound as she nods again. "I didn't know you… Partook," Josh says delicately. "I don't. Or I… Didn't," Buck says hurriedly.

nope, the inspiration came from a magnus archives episode actually (important disclaimer: despite the name being something of a nod to my favorite tma character, (m!)E and elias  bouchard have nothing in common, there will be no [extended sounds of brutal pipe murder] <333).

other than tma, I’d say the haunting of hill house by shirley jackson, pulse (written and dir. by kiyoshi kurosawa, please please please watch his movies, no one does psychological horror like kurosawa), what is not yours is not yours by helen oyeyemi, carmilla by le fanu, white nights by dostoevsky, the raven cycle by maggie stiefvater, strangers from hell (dir. by lee chang-hee), and annihilation by jeff vandermeer – have all shaped the story in some way or another. I’m kind of all over the place when it comes to fiction and what I like and what I draw inspiration from, there’s really no rhyme or reason except that spark, you know?
