(part 2)
ok so i don't usually do this but i have to get this out of my system or else i'll explode so
chad/ryan headcanons:
i like to think that Chad fell for Ryan back when everybody was crazy about twinkle town
maybe he sneaked into one of the practices, or came early because he wanted to see Troy and Gabi perform but he ended up watching others' parts too
and something about the way Ryan moved on the stage made his heart plummet
that night Chad couldn't sleep very well
he felt like a teenage girl and he kind of hated himself for it
as for Ryan, his feelings for Chad were just kinda always there
i mean, how could you not kinda be into Chad? he was a jock, after all; funny, hot, and smart
but obviously he never even tried to approach Chad, being pretty sure he isn't into guys
and that's what Chad thought too
ever since, Chad kept attending some of Ryan's drama club practices and developed some sorta quiet secret crush on him (he would never admit it's a crush though)
eventually, the Wildcats caught on and wouldn't stop teasing him
they helped Chad get the courage to talk to Ryan a few times
even though it was just small talk or helping with homework
though one time he even said that he liked Ryan's acting
and Ryan was so surprised at that moment that he couldn't muster out anything, but he sure was a blushing and stuttering mess
after that, they were kinda friends?
you could even find Ryan on the bleachers on some of the Wildcats' games
and according to his teammates, Chad was especially sweaty during those times, but he digresses
unfortunately both of them are cowards so they didn't really get closer until their vacation at Lava Springs

Ryan likes to shower Chad with compliments and gifts. The compliments Chad can and will reciprocate but eventually Chad has to ask Ryan to stop bc it feels like too much even tho Ryan just wants to spoil his boyfriend. They come up with a compromise, though, so that Ryan can buy gifts occasionally as long as he doesn't go overboard and Chad can show his appreciation in other ways when he can't afford lots of gifts

2023 Fanfiction Mini Guide
These are fics I rated 7/7 stars on my guide that I would FULLY recommend everyone read if you're into these fandoms or ships.
Stranger Things
Gen (Steve & Robin)
As He Sinks Just Like A Stone by saintmares | Rated T | 5k
The words "Steve Harrington is sooo strong" had always made Robin Buckley roll her eyes. After all, what did it matter if some stupid jock just so happened to use his muscles a bit more than other people? But when her life comes crashing down inside a secret underground Russian elevator, Robin finds a new appreciation for the strengths of Steve Harrington... at least until she has a startling realization about her best friend and his fleeting mortality as the Party patches up his demo-bat bites.
Steddie (Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson)
Black Out Days (Fairground Nights) by OonionChiver | Rated E | 140k (background Ronance)
‘I think,’ Steve says slowly, reaches for Eddie’s abandoned, untouched beers. ‘You don’t know me very well.’
‘I don’t know you at all, man. I don’t really want to.’
Steve’s throat works. It’s subtle, but Eddie sees it. He hides it with a swig of beer, but when he sets it down, his smile isn’t quite so bright. Twice as sharp, though.
‘The self-centred asshole who can only be decent to a single human being, I get it. It works for you.’ Then he takes a thick, heavy breath. The alcohol is hitting him, Eddie can tell. ‘And I am being civil. I’m here, aren’t I? You have any idea how hard it is for me to be here?’
‘In a bar?’
Steve doesn’t answer.
Star vs. the Forces of Evil
Stomco (Star/Tom/Marco)
Monster Carvers by Raikim4Never | Not Rated | 70k (unfinished, but I think about it every day of my fucking life)
Fourteen years after Princess Star Butterfly is kidnapped from her cradle, a terrorist attack on The Underworld results in Prince Tom Lucitor being sent to stay on Earth. Meanwhile, the Monster Carvers plot to bring an end to all non-Mewmans, and Ludo learns of rumors that Tom was given the Butterfly wand for safekeeping…
High School Musical
Chyan (Chad/Ryan)
I Still Don't Dance by Rozavie | Rated G | 20k
Chad Danforth never thought that he would find himself here—washed up, past thirty, teaching at a high school, and divorced. Basically, everything in his life has gone up in flames. No longer being able to play his favorite sport, and coming off of an exhausting (although amicable) separation, Chad decides that it's time to focus on what he can control. Primarily, raising his daughter. As long as she's happy and healthy, Chad thinks that he can manage to be as well.
But when an old friend from high school stumbles back into his life, Chad's world gets just a little more interesting.
Boy Meets World

This headcanon lives rent-free in my head, constantly, and I was so disappointed in how GMW handled a lot of the adult relationships and stickier topics, that I just had to write this. It just might rot your teeth.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Zukka (Sokka/Zuko)
like the sun inside you by ofherlionheart | Rated M | 200k (Unfinished)
Sokka's expression is caught somewhere between determined and pissed off when he says, “I know you think this is your responsibility. But you’re not going to be alone in this. This is why we’re building you a council.”
“I know,” Zuko says.
“And the only way you’re going to die having done nothing but sit in meetings is if you let yourself do that. You’re not a bad leader if you take a break now and then.”
Zuko scowls. “What, so people can then say at least my father wasn’t lazy?”
Sokka tilts his head. “Don’t you think there’s a difference between laziness and, I don’t know, choosing life and happiness in spite of a terrible dad who tried to take both from you?”
----------
Zuko is sixteen years old when he’s handed a crown, a throne, and a hundred-year ancestral legacy of colonial imperialism. He’s not scared of the work; he’s scared of being consumed by the responsibilities and burdens he’s claimed. What Zuko doesn’t quite realize, yet, is that he’s not alone in this.
(do you take this jerk to be) your one and only by jatersade | Rated T | 55k
Under the leadership of Fire Lord Iroh, the Fire Nation has made every attempt to restore peace and make amends for the harm they inflicted during the Seventy-Year War. Their newest proposal is a literal proposal: a marriage to unite the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes.
The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.
The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.
Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.
Will We Last the Night by CSHfic | Rated T | 144k
Chief Arnook never assigns Sokka to protect Princess Yue, so he goes to fight the Fire Nation with the other men. When the moon dies, and the ocean spirit takes its revenge, Sokka is caught standing on the deck of a Fire Nation ship. Sokka should have drowned… and he would have drowned, if not for a certain Fire Nation raft fleeing the North Pole.
[An enemies-to-lovers season 2 rewrite, where Sokka is separated from the gaang during the Siege of the North, and travels the Earth Kingdom with Zuko instead].
War Crimes by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 90k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING FOR SA, CHILD SA, TORTURE, MURDER, AND VIOLENCE - PLEASE READ THE TAGS AND CONTENT WARNINGS)
Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously)
Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.
And they argue.
A lot.
War games by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 428k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING, TORTURE, VIOLENCE, MURDER - Unfinished)
After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.
Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.
Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)
Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.
Her father may have made a slight tactical error.
In the Soft Light by CHSfic | Rated T | 84k
As the newly appointed cultural liaison to Northern Water Tribe, Zuko is the first Fire Nation Citizen to step foot inside the city's walls in nearly a century. He's determined to prove himself—to the Fire Lord and to his father—even if the Water Tribe's spirit-touched prince seems to want nothing to do with him.

These Things Written by Erisenyo | Rated E (Underage) | 222k
The letter was never supposed to be read, least of all by Sokka. But then, things happen every day that aren’t supposed to, in war.
Or,
On a particularly hopeless night, Zuko sends out a messenger hawk to nowhere. He didn’t realize that his messenger hawk is deeply committed to completing the job. And that Sokka happens to be traveling straight through nowhere, at the time.
These Things Known by Erisenyo | Rated E (Underage) | 400k (Third in series! There is a second one between These Things Written and These Things Known)
[Aang cuts him a quick, guilty look. “I didn’t mean to imply that you…”
Sokka raises his eyebrows. “That I…Focus on the present to the point of blindly committing to enormously questionable courses of action with significant long-term ramifications because they’re gratifying in the immediate moment, which is particularly concerning as our chief Maker of Plans?”
“Uh—That’s basically…Yeah.”]
Surrounded by danger and doubts, separated by war and one irrevocable decision—after the world of just-Sokka-and-Zuko crashes into the world of everything else, what comes next?
Or,
What happens when trusting someone suddenly means something far different out in the world than it did in the space of a Ba Sing Se teashop?
I'll Share the Moon, if You'll Share the Sun by anarchycox | Rated M | 400k
An alternate world where Iroh leads a coup against Ozai on the eclipse and wins the throne for Zuko. The southern water tribe hadn't sent men to fight in thirty years, instead protecting their home, laying traps, using guerilla tactics so the fire nation gave up fighting them.
Sokka and Katara found Aang, but being frozen in ice for a hundred years has ramifications and for almost four years the tribe focuses on healing the avatar.
Zuko is advised for continued peace to have an arranged marriage outside the fire nation. The best option is a the child of the chief of the southern tribe. Katara is in love with Aang and is heartbroken, but will do her duty for her people. Sokka finds a loophole that they can carefully and craftily exploit.
Aka they lie. They lie so hard and Sokka becomes the one betrothed to Fire Lord Zuko. He is sure there will be no consequences to the plan. Certainly not going to fall in love with the man he is lying to. At all. Nope indeedy, no love on the menu. Dang it.
Everything That I Am Not by Benedick | Rated T | 85k (Unfinished)
Sokka isn’t stupid. Not that his sister is, mind you (at least, he’d never call her that to her face now that she’s honed her waterbending), or any of the rest of Team Avatar, although sometimes it feels like he’s living in a different world from the rest of them — a world where running out of food means starving, and walking into a town full of firebenders with the Avatar in tow will get you killed, rather than help you free a beaten-down Earthbender colony.
Anyways.
Sokka isn’t stupid, which is why he laughs directly in Aunt Wu’s face when she tells him that he will marry the Fire Lord.

Chad x Ryan Headcanon
So, I rewatched the High School Musical movies, and my brain won't shut up about Ryan and all the possibilities. I mean, the movies don't really show a lot of the characters outside of Troy and maybe Gabriella, but I have a lot of ideas.  Since I can't be bothered writing a fanfiction right now, these little plot points should do it. (There's a little Chad/Ryan in there and a lot of me ignoring canon)
Sharpay and Ryan are really close, even though she keeps using him, and he knows it, but he hasn't had friends outside of his sister for a long time, and he kind of profits from her reign of terror, so he lets her do it.
When she ditches him in the summer, Ryan starts realizing how lonely he really is. He loves his school, and his classmates are fine, but thanks to Sharpay's attitude and him tagging along, all he gets from them is a sneer and people calling him Sharpay's lapdog (which is really not fair, she has Boi)
He spends a lot of the time he now has alone, walking around the Lava Springs grounds, maybe booking one of the rooms for a small dance rehearsal.
Then Gabriella invites her along to the game, and Ryan is suspicious, but he also doesn't have anything better to do, so he tags along and lets Taylor and Gabriella tell him all about the game. It's the first one this summer, but there's another one planned, and they are hoping Troy might make it to that one, even though Chad is their best player.
He loves playing Baseball. He forgot how fun it was, ho he used to get so excited for practice, and his games before he decided that Theater would be a more realistic career choice for someone like him and dropped out of the team. Sharpay dragging him along and commanding all his time might have weighted into that decision, too. He tries hard not to think about him leaving Baseball behind, which also meant him leaving his friends behind (but he can't help some memories playing in his head as he watches the boys warming up on the pitch)
Gabriella offering him up as a choreographer, shouldn't feel this good, but he's always loved dancing and coming up with choreographies for his favorite musical numbers. There could be worse things than training the Wildcats for the Star Dazzle Award.
He hadn't been planning on playing, not really, but he does, and the game is the most fun he had in weeks. His muscles apparently remember his Baseball games just fine, and he feels a little bit of hope growing inside of him. Maybe he won't have to be alone all summer long.
When his team loses the game, all that hope is gone. The past hours will probably be the only fun ones he'll have this summer. He won't be training the Wildcats, and he definitely won't make some friends now. But then Chad tells him he will at least try to dance, and everyone gets really excited about the prospect of taking part in the talent show, so Ryan allows the hope back in.
They invite him for post-game fries, and hanging out with all of them makes him realize how starved he really is for social interactions after years of just Sharpay. Gabriella drags him along to her house, where they all watch a movie, but it all feels so unreal that Ryan is sure he'll wake up all alone tomorrow.
Even when Chad and Gabriella and some of the others program their numbers into his phone, that feeling won't leave him.
He does not wake up without friends, though
There are a couple of texts from Gabriella, and a picture of an article about Ryan and his Little League Team Chad dug up on the internet and might be freaking out about (Ryan did remember that article. It had praised him as a rising talent of the Baseball league. His mom still has it framed in her office).
Ryan skips breakfast and instead goes and books his favorite rehearsal room after he steals/consults his new possible friend's working hours to find a convenient time for rehearsal.
He tries out a couple of ideas by himself and then finds Kelsi to ask about the Song she wrote. They make a surprisingly good team once she stops being afraid of him.
Gabriella finds him on her lunch break, and the two of them talk over Sandwiches. Taylor eventually joins them. They find out all of them have the same favorite TV Show and make plans for a joined binging of season one at Gabriella's place since she owns the box set.
Talking with them is so easy, some of the anxiety in Ryan calms down. He even waves at Chad and Zeke when they come in for their afternoon shift, and they smile and wave back.
The anxiety gets even better when all of the Wildcats turn up for their first rehearsal, eager to learn the dance moves Ryan came up with
There's a lot of laughter, something that rarely happened once Sharpay and him started rehearsing for school plays. Ryan loves it.
Chad is a surprisingly good dancer when he puts his mind into it. Jason is a hopeless case, but he's weirdly enthusiastic, and Ryan offers him extra training after work.
He gets a text from Zeke the next morning, inviting him for breakfast in the kitchen. He gets cookies, and Martha shows him that she already memorized most of the chores, which is truly amazing. He relaxes enough around them to make sarcastic comments and tease Chad.
Rehearsing is a lot of fun with them. It's also chaotic and loud, but Ryan really doesn't mind. Even Jason gets into it after a while.
They keep inviting Ryan to hang out with them after work or when they are on break. Eventually, it becomes a common occurrence for him to come walk into the kitchen. Common enough that Mr. Fulton doesn't blink anymore whenever he tries to be awful to them but can't because Ryan will quietly glare at him (He wouldn't need too. Mr. Fulton likes him, but he's slightly scared of Sharpay and follows her every word)
Taylor and Martha join him for his yoga classes.
Gabriella, Taylor, and he have that binging night. The next day, Taylor needs a triple shot espresso to function, and Gabriella nearly falls asleep on the job. Ryan walks into a wall; he's so tired, but it was definitely worth it.
His mom notices the difference in him. Sharpay doesn't. It stings.
Chad asks him once why he doesn't play Baseball at school. "We could use someone like you on the team," Ryan tells him that he wants to concentrate on acting and dancing as much as possible. He doesn't tell him that he never really noticed how much he missed the sport.
Chad nudges him and laughs. They keep throwing a Baseball back and forth.
Ryan does get dragged into the second employee Baseball game as well as a couple of smaller ones. He's always playing against Chad because both are super competitive, and it makes for a good match.
Chad and Zeke try t teach him Basketball, but he doesn't really get it. Jason offers him one on one lessons for his extra dance training.
It takes a while for Ryan to notice how happy he is now that he has so many people to talk too.
He also noticed how hurt everyone is because of Troy's behavior, Chad and Gabi most of all. He tries to apologize to them for his sister, but they wave him off. "You are not your sister, Ryan. You shouldn't be taking the blame on you." (He nearly tears up)
Then, Sharpay manages to exclude them from the talent show, and Ryan feels like his world is crumbling around him. Gabi texts him that she broke up with Troy. Chad calls him later that night, and they talk about how weird this summer is. "But honestly, I am glad we are friends now, Ry. You are kind of awesome."
Hatching a plan to get back at Sharpay is easy once Kelsi comes rushing into the kitchen, telling them how Troy turned Sharpay down. Taylor immediately calls Gabriella, and the four of them come up with a plan. Ryan is an expert on everything Lava Springs and Sharpay, Chad and Gabriella know Troy better than anyone else, and Taylor is a fucking genius. The others love the plan.
He finds himself driving Kelsi over to Gabriella's house for a song rehearsal, and he stays to watch her sing, She looks less perky than usual, more exhausted. But she still has that spirit that keeps pulling everyone in, and when she smiles at him, he knows she'll be okay again. He is happy about that.
Ryan feels guilty about playing Sharpay like this, but he still has her voice in his head, degrading him in every way possible without telling him he sucks. Kelsi tells him it's gonna be okay.
When the big evening ends with Troy and Gabi back together, and the award in Ryan's hand like the exaggerated apology it is, Ryan thinks he's dreaming.
For a short moment, Ryan thinks the team will ditch him now that they got Troy back, but they don't. They introduce him to Troy like he's the second-best thing that ever happened to them, and Troy makes an effort to get to know him. There are no rehearsals anymore, but basketball games, lazy baseball practice, impromptu dance battles with Martha, and more text conversations than Ryan's phone has ever handled.
Sharpay starts making amends, She comes knocking on his door, and they talk. She writes apologies to Troy and Gabriella and Kelsi and delivers them personally. She grumbles all the way through writing them, but she smiles when they accept.
They invite her to hang out with them, too, and she fits the group well. There's a blush on her face when Zeke presents her with cinnamon buns, and she starts holding his hand. Ryan just smiles, glad his sister might admit her crush on the boy now.
Work at Lava Springs becomes more relaxed for the Wildcats after Fulton calms down. They get treated like everyone else, and while he's still strict on their break times, he lets them have more fun now.
The end-of-summer-party Sharpay organizes is a hit. She plans to make it a standing event for employees from now on, no matter who they are.
Then their Senior Year starts. Everything is the same, but also kind of different. Ryan grew a lot over the summer, and his friends helped him be more self-confident in a less arrogant way.
Sharpay mellowed out a bit, too. It's partly because of the Wildcats accepting her into their group, partly due to her affection for Ryan and also because of Zeke spending a lot of time with her. Ryan might have caught them in the Evan's private kitchen once, both of them giggling as Zeke showed her how to make the cookies she loved so much. He didn't tell anyone.
But then, Sharpay starts to fall back into her old ways some weeks into the school year. She snaps at Ryan, ignores Zeke, flirts with Troy, and tries to make Theater all about her again.
Ryan doesn't know what's happening, and neither does anyone else. Zeke is a sad puppy all the time, and Jason spends a lot of time trying to cheer him up.
However, Ryan is still quite settled. He visits all of Chad's games, Basketball and Baseball, and cheers his friends on. He tells Martha to audition for the cheerleaders and is her biggest fan once she gets in. Martha, Taylor, and he still do Yoga together twice a week with an instructor Ryan pays. When his dance class takes part in a competition, he gets cheered on by his friends. He and Gabriella have a standing movie night once a month, with brownies and whatever TV Shows they love. He and Kelsi still work great together, writing and choreographing the graduation musical, and they love to hang out outside of the show, too. There's not one day he doesn't get hundreds of text messages.
His favorite text convos are the late-night ones with Chad and Gabi. They eventually morph into late-night-dinner-visits. Sometimes, Troy or someone else will join them. The Diner staff has a booth for them, and they have usual orders.
Sharpay gets a PA. Ryan doesn't like Tiara. She makes him feel like he's worthless all over again, and there's a cold aura around her despite her playing nice. Gabriella tells him to keep an eye on her if she keeps making him feel that way. Taylor says he's far from worthless.
Chad tells him  about how scared he is once it becomes clear that Troy might not be as set on the U of A as everyone thought. They met when they were five, and they did everything together since. The only difference would be Baseball and Golf, and that's why the summer was so hard for Chad. He can't imagine himself without Troy by his side. He doesn't know who he is when he's not Troy Bolton's best friend. Ryan isn't sure what to say, but he holds Chad when he starts to cry, and he promises him to help him figure out who he is.
Ryan is the third person Gabriella tells about the program at Stanford. Her mom and Taylor both think she's acting childish, and she needs someone else to help her make a decision. Ryan holds her hand and carefully tells her that h thinks she needs to talk to Troy. He also tells her not to worry about the show, because that's not a problem she should concern herself with right now. Her future is calling, with an incredible opportunity, and he doesn't want her to regret missing out on it.
Sharpay finds out about the program and tells Troy about it before Gabriella can. Ryan gets so angry, he yells at her. He doesn't understand why she's trying to ruin everyone's Senior Year. She hisses at him to grow up and leaves the house.
Gabriella invites all of her friends to her house and tells them she'll graduate early and leave. She clutches Troy's hand so tightly her knuckles turn white, but he lets her. And then she's the center of a huge group hug. Jason grabs Chad, and they drive off to get them drinks and snacks, turning the whole meeting into a little goodbye party.
At one point, Ryan finds himself standing next to Zeke on the balcony. Zeke confesses that he had been planning on asking Sharpay to be his prom date, but she broke up with him before the first posters popped up. Ryan has seen a lot of heartbreak lately, and Zeke might just be the worst. He can't do anything but listen, though, and Zeke gives him a sad little smile when Ryan drops him off at his house.
Sharpay tries to win him for whatever plan she has, but he refuses. He's busy with school and the show and sad about Gabriella leaving, and he won't betray his friends.
Kelsi tells him she's gay one morning when they sit at the piano in one of the music rooms and figure out the words for a song. She only told her parents and Jason so far. Ryan offers to take her to prom as friends because he hadn't planned on going with a romantic date anyway.
He wonders when he became the person people trusted in, but it feels good to have them trust him, and he knows he can tell them everything, too.
Rehearsals are less fun now. They still want to do the show, and they work their asses off, but Gabriella was more critical for the group dynamic than anyone had realized. They miss her like crazy, and seeing Troy act like a heartbroken puppy gets frustrating. They also have to deal with a sad Zeke, who has to watch Sharpay throw herself at Troy at any possible time. It's not easy.
Late-night-diner-visits are just Ryan and Chad now. They are both comfortable in the presence of each other, but Gabriella is missing even here. When she tells them she won't be coming for prom and the show, they all get even more depressed, even when Gabi says she will be back for the graduation celebration.
Troy leaves to get Gabriella back. He doesn't tell anyone until he's left the state, only sending a group message when there's no way of getting him back. His dad calls Chad and then Troy, ranting about how he should have said something so he could've gotten his parent's car, which would've been much safer for a trip like that. Nobody is surprised at Troy's actions, though.
Prom without Troy and Gabriella is a little weird, but still lots of fun. Ryan dances with Kelsi and Martha and Taylor, and even Chad. Sharpay doesn't show, which makes Ryan worry. When he comes home late at night, he finds her curled up in his bed, fast asleep. He slips under the blanket and pulls her close, falling asleep with his sister in his arms.
Sharpay is already awake when he opens his eyes the next morning, sitting on the bed in an old pair of pink sweatpants and one of Zeke's shirts. She's always well dressed, and the fact that she isn't right now tells Ryan that this is serious. He waits for her to speak first.
She tells him about the Julliard chatroom she's been frequenting nearly every day since the summer. How she chatted with lots of people on there, all of them having the same dream. How she started to panic once she read some of their resumes and realized that her own resume had a lot of leading roles but also that understudy part of the spring musical from a year ago. She doesn't have a plan B, Julliard was always her first choice, and she can't let that go. So she started to push them all away and focused on getting herself a more significant role in the show. Flirting with Troy had already been a habit, Zeke would have held her back. Ryan is her twin, but it's only one scholarship, and while neither of them needs it, this scholarship is tied to the last free spot at Julliard. She tells him how she had never felt so alone, and that she's missing hanging out with them. She even misses Gabriella, and she doesn't like Tiara. "Nobody is that nice all the time, Ryan! Even Gabriella had her bad moments when she was around me."
Ryan hugs her tight and makes her Pancakes and smoothies. Then he texts Zeke.
Zeke turns up on their doorstep twenty minutes later, still in his PJs. Sharpay all but jumps into his arms, crying into his shoulder as he holds her. Ryan leaves them be and retires to his room to text Chad and Gabriella, only coming out when it becomes clear that they have to leave for the show.
He gets to drive Sharpay's car for the first time ever because his sister refuses to let Zeke's hand go. He accepted her apology, and while he told her he would need some time to fully forgive her, he did kiss her softly. The two of them look a bit ridiculous with Zeke in his PJs and Sharpay having changed into a hot pink tracksuit, but Ryan's happy for them.
Gabriella texts him that her mom is driving her and Troy back to East High, and to please get her a ticket. He promises her he'll put her mom on the guestlist.
East High is pretty empty. It's a Saturday, and the show won't be starting until much later. The time before is for making sure everything is okay, going through the whole thing once, warming up their voices and muscles, and trying to get rid of any complications they might get. Sharpay apologizes to all of them and explains her behavior, which leads to Ms. Darbus telling her how she should have just said something, and Kelsi would have written her a different storyline, something more substantial. Chad tells her he'll make her life a living hell if she treats Ryan like that ever again, but then he hugs Sharpay, and she smiles and lets him.
Ryan quietly admits that he send applications for Sharpay to some other schools where she can study acting. Sharpay kisses him on the cheek and says he should've told her.
Troy texts Chad that he isn't sure if he'll make it in time, so Kelsi pulls Rocket aside to help him go over the Song again.
Sharpay finds Tiara in her wardrobe, showing her real face. The conversation unsettles her much after the whole emotional morning, and it takes Ryan a little while to calm her down again.
The show is chaotic but good. Ryan enjoys every single minute of it. To everyone's relief, Troy and Gabriella make it in time for their first Song, which allows Sharpay to kick Tiara of the show, and the rest of them to breathe easy.
He never doubted Kelsi would receive the scholarship, but hearing that they decided to take him on, too, is surreal and incredible, and he doesn't think Sharpay hugged him so hard in years.
They throw an After Party right there in the Auditorium. There are music and drinks, and their parents stay to mingle. His mom tells Ryan that she already got a two-room-flat in New York, and he asks Kelsi to be his roommate so she won't have to worry about housing.
Chad is still a bit upset about Troy's choice, but he tells him he'll be okay as long as Troy keeps in contact with him, and Troy swears Chad'll be annoyed with him by the end of the first term.
Gabriella has to go back to Standford the next day, but this time around, it's okay. Troy still mops about, but now that he choose a University that won't be all that far away from her he's better.
The rest of the school year goes by in a rush of exams and presentations. Ryan spends a lot of time on the living room floor, surrounded by notes and Sharpay, maybe even Zeke.
Graduation day is fantastic and awful at once. Ryan cries. Everyone cries. They take more pictures together than is probably healthy, and Ryan is already picking out frames for his favorite ones mentally.
Most of them still have a few weeks before they'll have to leave, but Taylor has to leave early, and so do Ryan and Kelsi. Gabriella will be staying a bit longer since her Semester won't be starting until Troy's does.
Ryan's last night is spent at the diner with Chad, Gabi, and Sharpay. Sharpay offers Chad to room with her since her parents had gotten her a flat near Campus, and she knows that Chad would just have stayed at the dorms for the first year. It's a surprise, but Chad accepts happily, and Ryan feels they will work well.
All of their friends gather to see Kelsi and Ryan off. Ryan gets hugged so much he starts to believe he won't be able to stand up without a pair of arms around his body. Gabriella makes him promise to text her as often as possible, Sharpay cries and says she'll be visiting him a lot, and Chad hugs him tightly enough to bruise a rip.
Ryan loves Julliard. It's competitive and loud, but it's also passionated and flashy. He's surrounded by people who are just as taken with the showbusiness as he is, and while it's a bit hard to make genuine friends, he manages.
Kelsi gets a girlfriend, and the three of them have movie nights at their apartment.
Sharpay does visit them quite a lot. She brings Chad with her once, and Ryan spends the whole weekend showing his friend the city. Chad absolutely loves New York, and Ryan invites him for an extended stay during their next break.
It's in his second year at Julliard that Ryan finally accepts the fact that he is gay. He thought he might be bisexual, but after a couple of make-out sessions with cute guys and no attraction whatsoever for any girl in his classes, he nods and sighs. There are no tears or break-downs. Instead, Kelsi gets him his favorite Milkshake, and they celebrate.
Telling his family is easy. His parents have never been judgemental about sexuality, and Sharpay just shrugs and tells him not to steal her boyfriend. Ryan laughs and tells her Zeke would never leave her on his own free will. When he calls Gabriella, she says she'll love him anyway, and Troy teases him about crushing on cute actors. (Turns out Troy himself has a crush on Jensen Ackles, which they bond over).
He tells Chad in person when he visits him at Chad's Uni. Chad is silent for a while, and then he nods and admits that he thinks he is bisexual himself. They get drunk and have a long discussion about sexuality.
Ryan visits all the games of Troy and Chad in New York. They always get him tickets, and he will cheer them on loudly.
His third year is so stressful, he nearly misses one of Chad's games. He's landed a leading role in a Julliard production while choreographing a smaller show on the side and is swapped with course work. He barely has time to sleep and eat. Kelsi's the same, their apartment filling with dirty dishes and clothes. But he finds Taylor standing at their door an hour before the game starts, and she presents both of them with tickets.
Despite constantly texting, they have a lot to talk about. Taylor and Chad broke up shortly into their first year of University, but they are still close to each other, and Ryan kind of admires them for it. She tells him all about her new boyfriend and gushes with Kelsi about a movie they had watched recently.
The four decide to go out for Pizza after Chad finds them, freshly showered and grinning brightly from winning the game. He looks incredibly handsome and relaxed, and Ryan finds himself staring at him more than once.
It takes one more visit for Chad and Ryan to finally kiss. It's January, and they are sitting on the roof of Ryan's apartment building. Wrapped in blankets, and with warm cocoa, watching the sky. Later, neither can tell if one of them started it or both leaned in at the same time, but it doesn't really matter. All that matters are their lips meeting softly, Ryan's hands in Chad's hair, and Chad's fingers searching for warm skin. It's slow and sweet, and it goes on forever.
Long-distance is easier for them than they expected. They've been friends for nearly five years at this point, and they spent three of those apart. Now, they call and text more, and visits get a bit more frequent, but both are willing to work hard. Kelsi says it shows.
Telling their friends and families isn't a big deal. Gabriella squeals so loudly, Ryan is sure he'll get tinnitus. Troy calls him to say he'll hurt him if he hurts Chad, but also to call him if Chad's an asshole. Sharpay hugs them both, and threatens Chad with detailed revenge plans should he hurt her brother. Their parents invite the pair for dinner.
Graduating from Julliard feels as unreal as leaving High School, but Ryan has already secured his first job as a choreographer for a dance show, and he's happy.
Sharpay moves to New York and brings Zeke with her, who landed a fancy bakery job and still dreams about opening his own one in the future. He starts a YouTube channel, and Sharpay gets cast for a Broadway production.
The invitations for Troy's and Gabriella's wedding don't surprise anyone. Chad is Troy's best man, and Gabi asks Ryan to be the ring bearer. It's a beautiful wedding. Ryan cries.
Chad moves to New York two years after graduating college, signing with the Knicks and asking Ryan to move in with him. They made it work so far, and while both their schedules are packed, they also make it work when living together.
The ten-years-reunion of their class takes place in Lava Springs. They kept in contact with most of their friends from High School, so nothing is really a surprise. Some of the other people are surprised at seeing Chad and Ryan kiss, but Nobody says anything.
Bonus:
Kelsi wins a Tony for her very first musical. She works with Ryan on another stage production, and both of them get an award.
Chad stays with the knicks, and Ryan keeps cheering him one while wearing his High School Trikot. Tumblr loves them, and they get listed as one of the Top 15 Power-Couples, even though none of them are sure why.
Zeke and Sharpay break up two more times before she proposes to him. He never opens a bakery, because his YouTube channel picks up so much he doesn't need too. They move into a place with a bigger kitchen.
I have no idea what Troy does, but whatever it is, he's happy.
Lava Springs somehow gets to be where their whole group meets up once a year for a weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Evans are glad to welcome them, and Mr. Fulton likes to tease them about the Star Dazzle Award.
Chad proposes to Ryan a year after gay marriage becomes legal in all fifty states.
Ryan loves it when Chad kisses his temple, while Chad practically melts whenever Ryan plays with his hair

well since it’s you mads i’m going to specifically make it a chyan headcanon too ;)
chad was definitely the one to make the first move but he agonized over it for months. he would find every reason for the two of them to hang out all the time but you know, just as bros obviously. by the time he finally told ryan he was into him and wanted to take him out, ryan had been under the impression that they’d been dating for weeks.

̶̶̶̶ ̶«̶ ̶̶̶ ̶ ̶ ̶̶̶ ̶«̶ ̶̶̶ ̶ Requests open  ̶»̶ ̶̶̶ ̶ ̶ ̶̶̶ ̶»̶ ̶̶̶ ̶ ̶
You walk through the halls with a big smile on your face as you see Peter. You walk up to him at his locker and wrap your arms around his waist, a bright smile on your lips when he turns his head to you. "I have news!" you cheer.
"What's up?" he asks, closing his locker and leaning against it, giving you his attention.
"My mom said they changed her schedule, and she'll be going into work on Mondays now. So that means her and my dad will both be gone! You'll be able to stay longer when you come in Sunday night from your 'business,'" you tell him, taking his hand in yours.
"What about your brother and sister?" he asks.
You shake your head. "Cameron will be with some friends for the weekend. To kick off the summer. And Chyan sleeps until noon and will be minding her own business."
It's the last week of school. After these next three days, it'll be summer break. Until now, Peter would go on patrol and then stay with you every few nights, leaving early in the morning before anyone else woke up and then meeting you at school. Even on the weekend, he'd have to leave relatively early, but now, he could stay, especially since nobody else should be there.
"Well, I look forward to it," Peter says, smiling as he leans down and kisses you.
"Hey, look! It's Penis Parker is kissing a girl!"
You pull away from him and roll your eyes, turning to the idiot in the hallway. "Eat a dick, Flash."
~~
Your eyes are heavy and close every few seconds before you force them open again. It's around 2:15 am, and you're sitting up against the wall on your bed, waiting for Peter. Patrol always took him a while. On an off night that New York streets would be quiet, he'd get in around midnight, but tonight isn't one of those nights.
The sound of your window sliding open jars you awake again, and you look around and see the familiar boy in red climbing through your window. Once he has his footing, Peter pulls his mask off, showing you his cute tired face. "Sorry. Did I wake you?" he asks in a hushed voice.
"No," you shake your head, "I was waiting for you."
Peter gives you a smile and takes off his suit, setting it on a chair in the corner of your room and moving to the drawer of your dresser that's filled with some of his shirts, sweats, and shorts.
He slips on some shorts and walks over to you, climbing in bed and laying down, opening his arms for you to curl into, loving the way you melt into his embrace. He holds your head on his arm, his other hand wrapped around you and rubbing your back.
Peter lets out a content sigh and snuggles closer to you, his eyes already starting to shut. Before he drifts to sleep, you speak up, getting his attention.
"My mom gets off at 2, but usually she'll stop and maybe go to the store and get food and stuff, so she isn't back until a little after 4, so you can stay until then," you say, running your hand around his bare chest. Peter hums, opening his eyes slightly and bringing his hand to stroke your cheek, leaning down and pressing his lips gently to your head. "You're warm," you smile.
"And you're cute," he says, holding you closer.
"Goodnight, Peter," you say gently.
"Goodnight."
It's no secret you sleep better when you're in Peter's arms. You don't know why, but any night he stayed over, you always felt so relaxed, happy, and safe it's just something about him. But nothing is perfect, so sometimes, even when he slept over, you'd wake during the night and struggle to get back to sleep.
You don't know what time it is when your eyes open, but it's quiet, and the darkness of your room tells you it's still night. Both you and Peter had moved around a little in your sleep. You're now laying on your back, your arms holding Peter's arm that's curled around your torso, holding you to his body. Peter has his head buried deep in his pillow, quiet breaths coming from his mouth.
You squirm in his hold, trying to get comfortable again. "Ya ok?" you hear Peter slur from the spot next to you.
"Yeah, sorry," you say quietly.
"It's ok," he yawns. "I woke up a few seconds ago when you started to."
You hum and smile at him, looking at his peaceful face. His eyes aren't open, but he's fully aware of you, and his arm moves to rub circles on your stomach.
"M'just a little hot," you say, starting to squirm off one of the layers of blankets.
"Oh," Peter says, pulling his arm from you and starting to scoot over some.
"No, no," you put your arm out and stop him, "you don't have to move away." Even though you were hot, it'd have to be a rare circumstance for you to be willing to sacrifice cuddling with Peter.
Without a second thought, you push the top layer of blankets off you and pull off your shirt, moving back to Peter's chest and curling on him. You and Peter have changed in front of each other countless times, but still, feeling your bare chest against his makes Peter blush.
Peter moves on his back, letting you snuggle to his chest and relax, a content sigh leaving you as you close your eyes. "Perfect," you say, barely above a whisper. Peter smiles, watching your eyes flutter closed as you fall asleep.
You wake again to the same scene, darkness, and the warm feeling of Peter holding on to you. You open your eyes, stretching and turning over, of course, Peter following. "Are you awake, or is that your reflexes?" you ask quietly, not wanting to wake him if it is only his reflexes.
He quietly laughs. "I'm awake."
"Sorry," you pout, "I keep waking you."
Peter shakes his head gently. "You were only asleep for like 2 minutes. I could tell you weren't fully asleep yet, so I waited."
You smile. "You're so sweet."
You settle on your side, Peter's chest against your back, his hand rubbing up and down your arm, wanting to help you fully relax. You snuggle back into his warm chest, feeling him curl his body around you, letting you feel protected by his body.
Peter holds you, rubbing your arm and cooing quietly. "Relax, babe. I'm right here. I'll be right here." It takes a few minutes, but soon your breathing evens out, and you fall asleep, Peter following soon after.
The next time your eyes open, it's morning. You lay in silence, a smile tugging your lips as you're surrounded by nothing but silence and love, feeling Peter pressed behind you, his chest rising and falling against your back as he sleeps.
You bring your hand up and stroke his arm. He'd shifted up in his sleep, his hand's now resting on your exposed breast, which you didn't mind, knowing he didn't do it on purpose, and either way, it felt nice to feel his hand on you.
While in thought, you feel when he wakes up, shifting closer to you and moving around a little. You can tell he gets confused when he feels his hand on something, giving your boob a few squeezes before retreating his hand, realizing what he's holding. He lays his hand just below your breast, leaning over and nudging your neck as if it didn't happen.
"Morning," you say, your voice still slightly raspy and broken. You turn around in Peter's arms, looking up at his face only a few inches from yours, smiling at the blush that covers his cheeks.
He dips his head, kissing your cheek and laying his head on your shoulder. "This is nice," he says, tightening his arms around you.
"Yeah," you say, smiling and wrapping your arm around his neck and running your fingers through his hair, his eyes closing and body relaxing on top of you, melting into your touch.
You stay like that for a few minutes, neither of you speaking, only savoring the feeling of being able to stay with each other during the morning. You reach for your phone with your unoccupied hand, looking at the time, seeing it's only a little after 10.
You put your phone down, feeling Peter shift his lower half, letting out a quiet grunt. His brows frowned, showing his slight discomfort. "You ok?" you ask, moving your hand down from his hair to his neck, rubbing it gently.
"Yeah," he says. He moves his head up next to yours, and he can see your face, giving you a sweet smile. You smile back, leaning to kiss him for a moment. You pull away, laying your head on his shoulder and snuggling closer to him, closing your eyes and relaxing again.
Whenever Peter stayed the night with you, wherever you both were, he had a habit of always sleeping on whatever side was closest to the door. Just another way of showing how he wants to protect you. The only time he didn't sleep on the door side is if where the bed you guys were in was located close to a window, which in his mind is more dangerous than a door.
In your room, your bed is right next to the window, so naturally, that's the side Peter slept on, meaning when his spidey senses started going off, he immediately snapped his eyes open, glaring at your closed door.
You feel him tense, his arms pull you incredibly close to his chest, and you see the intense look on his face. "What's wrong?" you ask.
"You said it's only us and Chyan, right?"
"Yeah..." you say.
"I hear footsteps," he says quietly.
"It's probably just her." Peter shakes his head, knowing that it can't be her, able to tell the difference and now hearing the separate heartbeats.
He can't think to act before your mom walks through your door, phone in hand, about to ask you a question. You and Peter jump, both your eyes going wide as she pauses when she sees you.
Her expression changed to the 'mom look of disbelief.' You want to say something, but when you're mouth opens, nothing comes out. You three stare at each other, and it feels like an eternity before your mom turns and leaves the room.
"Oh no," you whisper, scrambling out of your bed, diving to get on clothes.
"I thought you said she was at work!" Peter whisper yells, sitting on the edge of your bed as you throw him a shirt.
"She was! She said they were changing her schedule!" you say back, throwing on a pair of sweats and his shirt. "Oh god," you whine, already forming things in your head of what could happen.
Once you have the clothes on, you stand, looking at Peter sitting on your bed. "I can't go out there," he says shyly.
You're confused at first, but then it starts to click in your head why he'd be reluctant. The squirming earlier, the uncomfortable look, plus the way he's sitting on your bad. He has morning wood.
You sigh, trying to come up with a solution. "Just stand behind me or something. I can't go out there without you," you say with pleading eyes.
Peter huffs, looking away for a second, knowing he can't ever say no to you. "Ok, ok, let's go."
Peter stands, and you turn to your door, but before you walk through, he stops you again, grabbing your arm to get your attention. "You're wearing my shirt," he points out.
"Oh, I always wear your shirts around them," you shrug.
"You do?" he asks, a smile trying to tug his lips. You laugh lightly and roll your eyes, turning to walk again.
You both walk to find your mom, seeing her in her office. You walk inside, nervously playing with your fingers and trying to find the right words. "Um, we weren't- we weren't doing anything," you say shyly. Your mouth feels dry.
"You can talk to your father about it when he gets home," your mom says.
Your eyes go wide. "Wait, mom, come on, it's not like that! I just- we aren't- I'm still a virgin!" you blurt out during the panic. "I- I mean, we haven't- it's not- me and Peter like to sleep together," you stutter out.
Peter stands behind you with wide eyes as he looks between you and your mom, unsure if he should say something. "Mom. I like laying in Peter's arms and cuddling with him when I sleep. I sleep better with him," you mumble, looking down at the floor, refusing to look at her, feeling embarrassed to say that out loud, the fact your saying it to your mom. She looks at you two, glaring. "Sorry," you add.
"Mhm. Yeah, ok. That's fine. You guys can go," she says, turning away from you and back to her desk. You look up, not knowing what else to say, so you turn and look at Peter, who immediately turns around and walks toward your bedroom. You walk through the door, a ping of hope in your stomach that maybe you'll get out of this without getting in trouble. "That doesn't change anything. You'll still be talking to your father when he gets home," she yells from her office.
Your heart drops, and the only thing you can do is pull Peter back toward your bed and curl on his lap, hiding your face in his chest and hoping it'd all go away, or at least not go as wrong as it is in your head.

what do you know!!! Chad and Ryan headcanons part 3!!!
(part 1 / part 2)
eventually Chad's hopeless crush on Ryan got a bit too annoying for his team
because all they ever heard was about the Evans boy
no matter whether it was at work, in their free time, or at their basketball games
about the basketball games, seriously
Chad loved to show off
whenever Ryan was watching them play
so like, always
whenever Chad had the chance he would take the ball and say "this one's for you Ryan!"
and even though most of the times he missed, Ryan still thought he's cool
after the games Chad explained the actions he and his teammates were doing
but Ryan's basketball knowledge stopped at an alley oop
so now every time they play, he asks Chad to do an alley oop with someone
so, as estabilished, the Wildcats are getting tooth rot from the way Chad and Ryan look at one another
they even asked directly one time
"so are you guys dating?"
and of course the two of them got all nervous and blushy and said no but still exchanged longing looks
and Troy decided he needs to get things into his own hands
one day, after work, he stopped Chad from leaving so they could talk privately, like bros
the conversation didn't start well
"dude, i know you're into Ryan"
Chad started denying it, of course, but he wasn't doing a very good job, and Troy wasn't buying any of it
so after Chad finally shut up, Troy gave him some romantic advice
he said that it's also very obvious that Ryan reciprocates the feelings
and eventually Chad agreed to take Ryan on an official date and see how things go
and sure enough, the following day, after work, Chad asked Ryan whether he wants to go to the movies, just the two of them
but he chickened out of mentioning it's a date
but worry not, because Ryan had a very similar conversation about Chad with Kelsi
so he gathered up the courage and after a minute of awkward silence in the car as they drove
"hey, Chad, is this... a date?"
Chad glanced at Ryan, his face immediately flushing and unspeakable fear momentarily filling him
"um, yes? i mean, if you'd like it to be?"
Ryan's grip on the steering wheel tightened as he sighed shakily, also looking at Chad
"i would. would you?"
"yes. i'd like that a lot"
then both of their fears just... evaporated?
the rest of the night went like usual, whenever they hung out, which only affirmed their feelings for one another
they got into a small argument while waiting for their popcorn, over who was going to pay
they both insisted, but ultimately Ryan complied and let Chad pay (what a gentleman)
they picked either a horror or a romcom, nothing inbetween
and around halfway through the movie, Ryan decided it's time to make a move
so wordlessly, without prying his eyes away from the giant screen, he reached with his hand to Chad's side, seemingly to grab some popcorn kernels
but instead, he took Chad's hand in his, trying to ignore the sudden heat he felt on his entire body
the other boy, meanwhile, tensed up and started sweating (like he usually does around Ryan, honestly, damned hormones), but didn't want it to seem like he doesn't like this, so he returned the gesture
then, they briefly looked at each other, and smiled knowingly, both feeling swarms of butterflies in their chests
but they never let go, not even when the movie was over and they left the building
and even though such a small gesture felt so special and made them so nervous, it didn't stop them from communicating effortlessly, as if it wasn't their first time on an official date doing official date things like holding hands
when Ryan was supposed to drive Chad home, he took the longest route possible and drove in circles, just so they could talk for a few minutes more, singing along with the radio
but eventually, he had to pull up to Chad's driveway, because he didn't want him to get grounded for missing his curfew
but before Chad left the car, he took Ryan's hand again, this time looking into his eyes, swallowing the lump of anxiety in his throat and smiling warmly instead
"thanks for tonight," he said, unable to contain his blush when he saw Ryan look back at him with what he could only describe as love
"yeah, it was really fun," Evans admitted, squeezing Chad's hand slightly and caressing the back of it with his thumb
"i'll see you tomorrow"
after Chad had finally left, as he was at his door, he turned around once again to wave at Ryan with a smile
when Ryan got back to Lava Springs, he and Chad texted the entire night
which was exactly the reason Chad was so tired when he showed up to work the next day

It’s just not my favourite theory
I know most of the fandom want Nick to be Ryan and ch*d’s son. But I can’t see it. It’s a timeline issue. As well as a personal preference issue. The first hsm was set in 2006 when the students were 16. Assuming the Los Feliz kids (I thing that’s the schools name) are all 16 in season one. That puts their birthdate at 2004. So timeline wise it doesn’t make sense to me that either of them would adopt a kid so soon out of high school let alone from a whole other state. New Mexico vs California people. And I’m not sure many legal agencies would let people adopt so young. The logic just doesn’t add up for me. Then there’s the personal preference issue which people are probably gonna hate me for but I don’t care
I hate him. I do. I legitimately hate Chad Danforth. He’s a terrible friend to Troy. He’s manipulative. And he’s just a jerk in general. I hate chyan as well. Ryan deserves better (coughtroycough). So I, personally, don’t like the Danforth Evans fan theory. It just doesn’t do anything for me. Honestly. I want Nick to be Reggie’s nephew via Idina Menzel and Josh Dallas really. Just think of the angst potential. Reggie’s nephew being possessed by the psycho who almost rekilled him. It’d be amazing. If people really want him to be related to a hsm character. He could be a Bolton cousin. That could work right?
That’s my opinion on this particular theory. I respect those that have the theory. But if it turns canon. I probably won’t be happy. That’s what my headcanons are for after all. I understand that many people won’t like this post. But I had to get this out of my head

Little Chyan headcanon
Everybody remembers the funny, before the performance ritual between Ryan and Sharp? Now, I headcanon that Chad always helps Ryan relaxing and doing the ritual through with him before important performances as they moved to NY together and Sharp was not able to be present at every important play. Chad not exactly understands why or how this is works for Ryan but doing it for him anyway. Ryan says he can't do it alone as he's always done it with his sister. Ryan thinks it works even better with Chad, he can convey more energy to him than his sister.

I know that the Fandom is dead but
here's how I picture the beginning of chad and ryan relationship starts from high school musical
- ryan fell in love first
- in high school, sharpay dragged him to a basketball game (because of troy), and for several days he could not stop thinking about number 8
- which then continued for weeks filled with sadness, because "oh no, I fell in love with a straight dude again"
- and then they ended up in the same class
- Kalsey, being Ryan's best friend, listened to Ryan's endless cries about what piece of trash chad is
- but the more time they spent time together, the more Ryan noticed that perhaps he still had a chance
- their communication consisted exclusively of "hey, theater kid, don't get your white shirt dirty, or mommy won't be happy" and "watch out for your ball, if something's happened to him you woyld cry"
- after that, chad carries his basketball everywhere
- and it annoys the shit out of ryan
- everything changes after the summer break, when almost everyone works for the Evans family
- did ryan ask for chad specifically, to help carry golf clubs when he and his family went to play golf?  Yes.
- Ryan often spent time with "workers" because of gabriella and kelsey, and chad could not help but be distracted from his work, staring at ryan
- Ryan ran into the kitchen every morning and every evening to check how everyone was doing
- and Chad finally began to understand that he is not just a rich guy, hes actually a really good person ... AND he's  also SO damn cute
- Chad's internalized biphobia tho quicklygot rid of those thoughts
- and what better way is there to distract yoyrself from gay thoughts than sports, right?
- and then i don`t dance happened
- they fucked.
- Ryan was on the cloud 9 from happiness, and chad still could not accept himself
- so he decided to have a girlfriend heehee - Ryan cried. so much.  and complained to his mom.  and kalsey. oh poor kalsey.
- during their graduation preparation Ryan worked a lot so as not to think about cgad
- he often stayed late at school, preparing dances and sets
- once, chad also stayed late at school (played basketball, of course) and noticed that the light in the assembly hall was still on
- he saw Ryan asleep without his shoes on in a pile of unfinished decorations and paint
- of course chad began cleaning up, trying not to wake Ryan up
- but it's chad, come on, his basketball ball rolled off the stage, waking Ryan up
- and Ryan, being still sleepy, tired and exhausted, began to swearing at chad, telling everything he has felt since summer
- and chad could not think of a better answer then a simple "sorry"
- and Ryan, not expecting to hear an apology, stupidly froze
- they were able to talk it over, and, well, now they were dating
- and at the next rehearsal, Ryan dressed chad up in a clown costume, because that's what he deserved

part 2 of Chad and Ryan headcanons because im still exploding (here's part 1 and part 3):
so then summer at Lava Springs happened
you know how Sharpay specifically asked for Troy to carry her golf bag?
well I think Ryan definitely specifically asked for Chad to be there too
and when they got left behind by everyone else on the golf field, they definitely started a conversation
neither of them expected it to go so smoothly but it did, and after that day Chad often invited Ryan to hang out
soon they found out there's more to them than being a jock and being into theater
Ryan gave Chad a ride home every night (even though Taylor could just drop Chad off while she was going home herself, but she let them be)
sometimes, they went to the cinema, or to the bowling alley, or took long walks around the town getting to know each other better
everyone knew these were dates.
when Ryan and Sharpay got into an especially rough fight, Ryan didn't really feel like spending the night at Lava Springs, so Chad invited him over without hesitation
at first Ryan was a bit wary and thought Chad's family wouldn't like him, but they did, obviously
the sleepover went great and they felt like little teenage boys, having a pillow fight and gossiping, watching their favorite movies and eating candy until they felt like throwing up, playing board games and making a karaoke contest- you name it, they did it all
it was very late when they finally decided to get some sleep
Chad was about to head to his basement to get a spare mattress for Ryan, but then
"um, i can sleep in your bed with you," Ryan said, avoiding Chad's eyes "if you don't have a problem with that, of course"
he didn't have a problem with that
instead of going to sleep, they talked about everything and nothing for a bit more
sometime during the conversation, Chad's sweaty hand ended up on Ryan's, but neither of them mentioned it
they liked it, but they were too scared to do anything else, especially Ryan, because he was scared Chad was just experimenting
after that night, they were pretty much inseparable
Ryan visited the kitchen every morning and evening to see how the Wildcats are doing
but he wasn't fooling anyone, they knew he was there to see Chad
and oh my god the way Chad anticipated Ryan's visits and was excited about them every single time
everyone was sick of their mutual pining
also, Chad often invited Ryan to eat lunch together outside, and Ryan made sure Fulton wouldn't fire Chad for it, even if they were on off-limit areas sometimes
and then the baseball thing happened
and look, i'm not saying they fucked after the game
but they went to the locker rooms and exited with their clothes switched
so just connect the dots
anyway, after the game, they sat at the tables together and ate some burgers for lunch
they were really close to each other, their legs and shoulders touching and Chad leaning slightly onto Ryan
they were talking about Ryan's amazing baseball skills when suddenly Zeke and Jason walked up
Ryan didn't want Chad to get teased so he wanted to scoot away, but then
Chad wrapped his arm around Ryan's shoulder and kept him close, grinning at him
and it was probably at this moment that Ryan realized he's head over heels and there's no going back, no matter what
so he smiled back and leaned into the embrace
anyway, back to Zeke and Jason
they asked Chad whether he wants to join them in a 2-vs-2 basketball game
Chad smiled but said that he has plans with Ryan
which wasn't entirely true, they haven't made any elaborate plans, but Ryan just stayed quiet and couldn't help but smile - Chad just admitted to his jock friends that he wants to spend time with him
Zeke and Jason just looked at each other and exchanged some meaningful glances and smirks, shoving Chad's shoulder gently
"sure, have fun you two"
when they left, Ryan looked at Chad again, only to see him blushing furiously
"what was that about?"
"no idea, they're just being stupid"
Chad couldn't help but think about getting teased the next day for being very obviously into Ryan, but for now, he didn't care - he had a crush to romance

some more Chad/Ryan headcanons!!! this time a bit more independent/general :))
for halloween, they definitely dressed up as Phantom and Christine from Phantom of the Opera
or Danny and Sandy from Grease
or Frances and Johnny from Dirty Dancing
i think you get my point. a couples costume with the characters being from a musical
(acceptable exception: Marty and Jennifer from Back to the Future)
and speaking of musicals
i think Chad secretly loves them and knows quite a lot about theatre even if he denies it
all thanks to his mom's influence!
oh and his mom definitely loves Ryan because, besides being really good for her son, he's a great actor
and she absolutely loves when they dress up as musical characteristics for halloween
she always takes a lot of photos
and shows them at family gatherings, greatly embarrassing Chad
she doesn't see the problem, though
i also believe that Chad and Ryan both love long car trips, especially when they're alone
they often end up parking their car somewhere nice like near a forest or a cliff and either stay in and take the view in or go for a walk
when they drive, they sing along with the radio
and they definitely made their own mixtape
i think that they'd love Bowie especially, along with a few others like Elton John, ABBA, Britney Spears, Rihanna
but also Tupac and Biggie
and obviously some musical songs
speaking of which, i don't care if Descendants came out a few years after the canonical date of their graduation
but "Did I Mention" is literally them
they also love going to the movies for dates
but sometimes, when there's nothing interesting, they instead go to Chad's place and watch some movies or shows he has on vhs
which, Chad's dad definitely loves collecting those
he has all seasons of The Twilight Zone, which Ryan and Chad rewatch every October
their go-to favorites are Goosebumps, 90s Moomins, Scream and Back to the Future
sometimes, while they're watching the tv in the living room, they fall asleep on the couch, cuddling under a blanket
usually, Chad's mom finds them like that and takes a few pictures while trying not to wake them up with her delighted "aww"s
when they don't fall asleep on the sofa, they eventually go to Chad's room and play board/video games until they feel like passing out
at some point, Ryan sleeping over on fridays became a sacred tradition, an impenetrable virtue
on the days following their sleepovers, Chad found himself struggling to find his hoodies
Ryan stole them, of course
when confronted about it, he refused to give them back, claiming that they're his now
but eventually he gave in and let Chad take them back, because he came to the conclusion that Chad needs to wear the hoodies so that they smell like him
it's a fair trade, though, because Ryan lets Chad take all and any of his tees
sometimes they're a bit too small, but he doesn't complain - they really bring his pecs out, and Ryan seems to like them, too
and speaking of switching clothes
thursdays are outfit swap days for them
they go to east high wearing one another's clothes and go with their days as usual, enjoying everyone's reactions when they see Chad in a tight golf or Ryan in a size L varsity jacket
ok also self advertisement time!! my posts are gaining attention lately (:DD!!) and sometimes i turn my headcanons into actual oneshots! you can read them all on my ao3 !
