Very large robber fly attacking a cicada.
I took this photo years ago, and for some reason I just forgot about it. I don't know how considering how interesting it is.

The cicadas are a superfamily, the Cicadoidea, of insects in the order Hemiptera. They are in the suborder Auchenorrhyncha, along with smaller jumping bugs such as leafhoppers and froghoppers. . "very similar to apoidea or odonata" FAIRY WINGS LOOK NOTHING LIKE BEE OR DRAGONFLY WINGS
they are similarly transparent but there are so many other insects with transparent wings.... and the shape is totally different for both plus bee wings are attached to each other with hamuli
you know what would be a better comparison? cicadoidea
longer fore wings, more rounded hind wings, and they're transparent
how they're held is totally different, though... they're spread here, but they're usually folded over their backs, so not a perfect match

top 5 insects?! 🐜 🐛
Number One: Moths/Butterflies (Lepidoptera)
They are so colorful and patterned! I love watching them fly around and there's just something so beautiful about it. Plus, the whole thing about monarch butterflies and their migratory habits is incredibly amazing to me
Number Two (Tied): Bees and Wasps (in Hymenoptera)
Both of these incredibly diverse groups are very important to both the planet and my heart. Both (but bees especially) pollinate all manner of flowers. Their social dynamics are fascinating (though I still love all the solitary ones too). Plus, black and yellow is such an iconic color combination and they pull it off well.
Number Three: Mantises (Mantodea)
They're so good at camouflage that I often miss them myself! They are very good at being predators and I have so much respect for that. There is just something about them that is incredibly inspirational. Very pretty.
Number Four: Fireflies (Lampyridae, in Coleoptera (beetles))
They glow!!!!!!!!!!
Number Five: Cicadas (Cicadoidea, in Hemiptera)
Their songs are very alluring and peaceful for me personally, so they just put me at ease. I love them. Their life cycle (partly underground) is so funky and their empty shells are always such a cool find

nav // tag guide for app (pinned post)
I'm Clavain, a 26yo software/web dev who hates computers and wants to become moss. I live in the French Pyrénées and speak English/French. My other blog is Clavainova. This blog has (natural or fictional) animal death, taxidermy, horror and gore, so watch out for that if it upsets you. This is the tagging system, which is very consistent, and I will not take offense if you block all my original content:
