🌟 - tell me something about how this part of the story played into your plans for its themes or imagery

Honestly I didn’t really have very concrete plans throughout this process 😅 I knew I wanted light to be the image because I love light imagery, but the themes came out of nowhere!

At first I wanted something more melancholy, more about the yearning for other lands and another home (which I think still made it in somewhat), but then as I got a better understand of the characters’ motivations, it started focusing more on art and subcreation and duty, and I’d like to continue that in the second part I want to someday write.

❓ - author's choice! tell me anything you'd like to share about this part of the story

I had so much that didn’t make it in to this story—I just didn’t have time to write everything!

First—I originally had an idea for Clarina to take Lyev to her university and meet her piano instructor (who in fact would turn out to be someone else who’d escaped from the same world, though only Lyev and he are aware of this)!

Second—I was also going to have Clarina have a messy ended relationship that cropped up every now and then, to make her relationship with Lyev more of a foil. It didn’t really fit in anywhere so I took it out, and I think it’s far better with the focus being on only two characters.

Third—There was another scene tentatively planned for Clarina to bring Lyev to her university orchestra’s performance of a Shostakovich symphony (No. 7, of course), and the music hits him so hard and reminds him so much of his own land that he realizes he’s made a mistake escaping it and has to go back. That was before I understood who Lyev was, but it’s something I still wish I could have included!

I headcanon that;

She and her brother are close.

She's a few years older than Bal.

She's friends with Melody and Zephyr.

She's sweet and kind, and a bit of a smart aleck.

She works in the castle and is like a sister to Ben.

She and Hans Jr (Prince Lars Westergaard and Charlotte La Bouf's 2nd oldest son) are an item. But that's about it. What are your headcanons?

She also looks like this and is played by Joey King.
