MHA 428 - what an utter waste of a chapter this close to the end.
OK, so things we learnt:
There are interview requests for Class A, but Aizawa is rejecting them on behalf of the kids. So nobody among them has told their story yet.
Class A is cleaning up / civilians are giving them not only sweaty T-shirts, but also food. If Hori tries to sell this as progress, I'd like to remind him that this already happened in the previous war.
Edgeshot-worm will survive (color me surprised!)
Cementoss is a first-year homeroom teacher now
The kids are not obliged to stay in the dorms, but they can. (Shouto is staying in the dorms, duh)
Uraraka is still faking to be fine, but she's not fine as noticed by Tsuyu.
The camera battery ran out and did not capture Toga's sacrifice
Uraraka is crying on the cliff's edge, Deku is running to her.
IMO, this was quite a nothing chapter, but it again builds slowly towards the need to tell the story of not only Deku but of everyone, because what the journalists capture is only partial truth. So to change hearts, Ochako and Izuku have to talk about Toga and Tenko.
I'm getting the feeling even more that this is where it's all heading.
Also, I wish this whole save the villains thing wasn't conflated with the romance and Shouto could be a part of it, so we could see his feelings.

Stars and Stripes also admire all might a man from a country that also colonize half the planet and he made reference to a doctor who experimented and kills korean and Chinese civilians lol horikoshi really is hilarious
I kinda was afraid for a hot sec he can get a ton of shit for this lady too, but seems like this time it’s ok 😅
Honestly I wasn’t on board with all the hate last time, I’m sure he didn’t have any ill intentions and all these people screaming “die!!!” For real when they’re not even slightly related to that?…

Student No. 22 —

m a s t e r l i s t
pairing: shinsou hitoshi x f!reader x class1a
genre: 1tbsp of crack, 1 tsp of fluff, a sprinkle of angst and 1 cup of chaotic randomness
synopsis: y/n was certain she would never be a Hero. She had a different goal in her mind, and that is to be a great doctor someday. With a terrible past she wants to forget, she vows she would never use her Quirk and will never let the world know what it is. Not until she finds out that the invincible quirk she thought she has can also have a certain weakness.
super random updates
a/n: canon Shinsou is joining hero class for their second year but I'm gonna make him part of Class 1A already yay! ALSO IM ON MOBILE IDK HOW TO PUT A *KEEP READING CUT* will edit this tomorrow 🙏🏻 sorry for the long post on your dash
OO5 : Acceptance...Is that a Threat? —

"You're already enrolled and your safety was entrusted to us."
"No, I'm sorry but I think I had enough." You hoarsely whispered. "I already got the answer what I was looking for."
Aizawa stopped in his tracks, his hands buried in his pockets as he watches you struggle to reply. "And that is?"
"The Hero scene isn't cut out for me." You bravely look at his eyes, slowing down your pace and faced him, catching Shinsou's gaze just behind your teacher.
"I don't want to fight nor hurt anyone to save lives. I want to save lives as a doctor if possible. And if you think that proper guidance is that one thing I need then you're wrong, sensei. I don't need that, please don't patronize me."
Aizawa tried his best to remain calm but the way you somehow push the wrong buttons and say things so straighforward makes him want to knock some sense in to you and tell you that there is more to being a hero. But the way you fidget somehow caught his watchful eyes. Aizawa squinted as you kept glancing towards him and behind him, catching a certain purple head boy passing you two.
You fiddled your hands nervously, seeing another gaze settling on your figure. Still feeling the pain on your shoulder, Aizawa walked closer to where you stood.
"You're scared of him," he said in-a-matter-of-fact tone.
"I am not."
"Because he can control you," he taunted.
Is Aizawa even a teacher right now? Why is he so pressed into this matter? You thought to yourself as you felt his presence even closer, caging you and your thoughts... your fears that someone actually exists that can easily negate your own self defense quirk. You bowed your head, averting your gaze.
"l/n-san, you don't like being controlled don't you?" Aizawa sighs seeing how your body trembles at the mention of the word.
You looked up wide eyes, straining to retort something but words fail to escape your mouth. Instead a nonsensical challenge transpired between the two of you. Shinsou held his breath, wanting to intervene the moment he saw Aizawa’s eyes glowing red and hearing your whispered exchanges. Only for Bakugou to block his way, enjoying the scene unfolding in front of them.
Everyone was silently hoping there was a good reason why Aizawa was suddenly fighting you just after finishing the Hero Training exercise. His hair flared up as he tried to capture you with his scarf, only for you to dodge and glare at your teacher.
“You didn’t fight Shinsou and Bakugou. Is that how you like to win?,” Aizawa’s voice echoed as you run towards the exit. Trying your best not to bump into someone along the way.
At the back of your mind there was a tiny voice telling you that they’re all judging you and your intentions was so unclear to be there at the Hero Course. That you don't deserve to be there. And they were right. But...
"You can become stronger if you train against him and with him. Maybe find a reason why he of all people can do that to you..."
You scoffed, amazed by how a teacher can agitate you with such simple words. Your grandfather was worse, his training methods were the worst, the hero exercise earlier pale in comparison to what you experienced. You only learned self defense in order to protect and not fight.
And to see this class filled with hopeful heroes to be are trained in order to fight for the justice they believe is such a ludicrous notion it made you wonder... why train them in the first place only for the HPSC to control everything? You gag at the toxic hero worship everyone seems to adapt. Is everyone foolishly blind? Foolishly following such trend? Or were you the blind one?
Gritting your teeth, you spat the words angrily. You stopped running and charged into him instead, “I still won. You got what you wanted, sensei. My Quirk... you saw it with your own eyes. So why do I have to hurt someone if the only goal is to win?”
With that said you side-stepped away from the white material coursing your way only to meet another set of it the moment you evaded Aizawa’s.
The rest of the class tried their best to avoid the both of you, still confused about what's going on. "She really likes to pick a fight doesn't she?" Kaminari watches as you gracefully dodge each of Aizawa's attempt to capture you.
"Sensei's erasing quirk is useless against her too," Midoriya mumbled, amazed once again with this new information. "I thought it was only fire quirks that were affected but I'm guessing she can --"
Midoriya's words were cut off when he saw Shinsou walked closer, carefully threading in the sidelines.
"You have got to be kidding me!"
"I-I think everyone should calm down." Shinsou looked over you then to Aizawa who was shocked that his own protege captured him with his own binding technique.
"y/n-san" Shinsou pulled you into him, trapping you with his binding cloth for the second time after releasing Aizawa. "I don't know what's going on, but -" he looks at his mentor then back to you.
"Release me."
"No."
"Shinsou!"
"No!" he pulled you closer.
"Take it off."
Shinsou raised his eyebrows, smirking at the tone you used. He tried to hold his smile but the way you whispered those three words somehow made you two blush at the weird notion.
You bit your lips in embarrassment as you felt his breath on your cheeks, "No."
"Please?" you sighed, trying to calm yourself down. Too close...he's too close.
Shinsou looks back up at his teacher. "Sensei-"
Aizawa’s face was more unreadable as he walks closer, Shinsou was trying to figure out what his mentor's expression means. Aizawa simply stares at the both of you, a strange look both of you can't read.
Shinsou takes a deep breath, and goes on, “I shouldn't probably intervened but she's...she's injured because of me.” he looks away, too shy with the reason he came up with, now a small tinge of red powdering his nose.
There was a long pause. Aizawa merely nods. Shinsou opens his mouth, wanting to say something more but the words don’t come.
Giving into another temptation and succumbing to the curiousity budding, you rationalized the choices in your head. Do you want to fight him? Or do you wanna know how far he can use his quirk against you. About what he said earlier, were you scared people will resent you or maybe you really are scared of yourself.
"Fine." you murmured. "I accept the offer."
"Offer?" Shinsou looks momentarily confused about the exchange.
"Good. Now please do me a favor and stop being another problem child." Aizawa pats your head and walks away as if nothing had happened. "I'm not getting paid enough for this." he mutters to himself as he looked between you and Shinsou leaving you two behind and calling the whole class to go change back into their uniforms.
"Were you always a pushover?" Shinsou asks out of curiosity as he frees you.
"I am not!"
He watches as you contorted your face into a pout, your nose scrunching in annoyance as you rub your arms. With cheeks puffed out you glared at him, "I'm going to crush you, so you better know what's coming.”
"Is that a threat?"
You pat his shoulder bravely making him flinch at the sudden contact "No. It's a declaration of war."
The heat rises to his cheeks, his cool and passive demeanor suddenly melts aways as he chuckles lowly, accepting the declaration you just announced. "Then be ready to taste defeat this next time."
Curiosity was one thing you don't like but what you really hate the most is not finding answers to satisfy your own. So this time, you might as well go all the way in satisfying the curiosity growing.
"Then try me. Bring it on, hero."

a/n: the story is progressing so slow skdkkskec i just want to stress the part that y/n hates the idea of hero worship... Probably due to one of the many traumas she endured during her childhood.
But still she's a very curious cat, Shinsou unknowingly being the reason why she accepted Aizawa's offer once again.

HI BESTIE NOVA it's time for me to send another ask instead of bothering you on discord <33 was wondering your take on 9999things!robbie meeting class1a!robbie or like. reading about/watching the other through some form of media (or those robbies meeting any other au robbies you have :eyes:). ALSO i was wondering if atla is canon in they who know class 1a universe incase i missed it lmao love your writing lots <33
hi bestie bee!!!! i love ur question :DD
I'll bring in Red from Fourth Affinity since xe started off as an AU robbie and i think it's only right to have a triad for this Into The Robbieverse.
I think it would be hilarious if atla existed as a show in bnha but considering that it's several centuries in the future it would probably be outdated and possibly (considering the dynamics between benders and nonbenders) considered culturally insensitive with Quirks. but class1a!robbie, if they encountered it, would thoroughly enjoy it and be a Zuko stan. If Fourth Affinity existed, 1A would probably discover it via Momo or, more likely, their online friends, and think it was neat, but 9999 would have found it in the Library and gone apeshit obsessed about it. They'd be an Ave stan for sure. Red of Fourth Affinity absolutely has watched atla and bnha, and is a Toph and Kirishima stan respectively.
If all the AUs did was read about each other, I think they'd really like each other. 9999 would admire 1A for getting a hero license and being able to intervene in serious situations, 1A would think 9999 was a badass for straight up hitting da bricks on the Library and joining a wholeass war, and Red would admire both Robbies for participating in violence without getting forced into it by a prophecy.
however, as real people they would have a lot of strain with each other. Red would be very uncomfortable with 9999's knives and limited training compared to the war they fight in, and really really jealous that 1A gets justice with Vixen via the competent mentor Aizawa (Mx. Khalil would absolutely expel Damian if he went to the Academy, but he doesn't, so they wouldn't really have much power in that situation). 9999 would feel insecure that 1A and Red both have established best friends and fit in with humans, especially with Red being 18 and 1A being only 15. 1A would be so jealous of the simpler worlds that Red and 9999 live in, with the limited destructive capabilities of bending and Affinities compared to Quirks. And when it comes to their differing families, they’d make each other insecure so quickly because 9999 would be super mystical about the whole thing and not be able to explain spiritual abuse, 1A would feel like they’re less valid because they got help and justice, and Red would both feel isolated by xir specific mental issues and be unwilling to talk about the extent of xir struggles to a fifteen-year-old and a new-to-this-world spirit.
So as casual friends, the Robbieverse would need breaks from each other. But if they had a problem to solve together, 9999 and 1A’s combat skills and Red’s ability to pretend to be normal, and all three of their savior complexes would combine fantastically to obliterate any enemy.
(also, both Vixens and Damian would tear each other apart because of their narcissism and it would be an utterly hilarious karmic downfall, and both Wan Shi Tongs and Red’s dad would form a book club with subtle undercurrents of drama before they got sick of each other and vagueposted about it on Facebook)

Some thoughts about Ch 419 - character agency and origin
I'm way behind, but wanted to add my 2c on the debate relating to the AFO "twist" and what it means for Tenko to have AFO at the core of his existence. It made me think once again of the Shouto-Shigaraki parallels .
I didn't take it quite as bad as some of the fandom, because:
we kind of already knew AFO was behind it, we just didn't know the full extent
unlike a lot of people, I didn't think that Tenko being saved by vestige magic hugs, sidestepping Tomura's adult personality and going hand in hand with child!Izuku to fight the big bad would have been a good conclusion.
I also don't think that Tenko not having any agency is necessarily a bad thing. You see, my favourite character, Shouto is a lot like Tenko. His birth, his quirk, the loss of his family, every trauma that shaped him as a child leads back to Endeavor. He's born to be his weapon to use as he wishes.
His lack of agency doesn't make him a boring character. In fact, I find it fascinating how the story shows us Shouto clawing back his agency, identity inch by painful inch, until he's able to stand firm and say - so I can AFFIRM the reason for being born. So let's look at saving Shouto, because I do think it's kind of a blueprint not only for saving Tenko/Tomura, but to Tenko/Tomura rising to save others.
And if we remember Shouto's journey - yes, it starts with a moment of a hero reaching out to him, reconnecting him to his child self who was told that he can choose who he wants to be, he can be a hero.
Notice though how being reconnected to his child self, is not an insta-save. Baby!Shouto doesn't just take over UA!Shoto and erase his personality or past mistakes. Shouto himself has to do the work. He has to face his own shitty choices, like giving the cold shoulder to Inasa or not seeing his mom for a decade and try to reconcile who he is NOW after the abuse, grooming and being driven by negative feelings. Taking ownerships of his mistakes (even if the source is Endeavor) is one of the ways to emancipation.
But it's also not a straight path. Shouto experiences being faced with his childhood dream as a nerf (just like Tomura did now lose to AFO) because of the trauma and doubts he carries. He momentarily loses his will to fight.
For people who never had agency in their lives like Shoto or Tomura, the simple truth that you get to make choices is hard to internalize and the constant doubt whether it's a choice you make by yourself or are you just walking down the path your "creator" set out for you remains.
And how could it not? Shouto wants to be a hero and wants to be not like his father who is the No 1 hero now. It's a contradiction, no? And it takes Shouto 200+ chapters to come up with an answer to reconcile the tension - he wants to be a reassuring hero - something Endeavor never was. Having this goal in his mind, he's able to accept more and more of the tools his father gave him - his quirk, Endeavor's techniques, even gear that looks like his father's - because as long as he's rooted in his own will, his own goal, he gets to keep his own identity, he gets to affirm his reason.
This is why I want not some idealized child Tenko to vanquish AFO. I think it's much more powerful if the person who makes a return is Tomura (who is also Tenko, but I use Tomura as a shorthand for his adult self, the person who he has become).
And while it's undeniable that AFO is deeply at the core of Tenko's origin (just like Endeavor is for Shouto), I also think he's gaslighting Tomura when he says Tomura never made a choice. And I'm talking about the League here specifically.
The bonds Tomura created with Touya, Toga, Spinner, Compress, Twice, Magne, etc - are fully choices he made. AFO let it happen - but the League (a place for outcasts to be accepted) are Tomura's choices.
Just as for Shoto the friends he made are instrumental in him earning his agency, being able to affirm his existence and not crumble from tragedy, the LoV is the key for Tomura to start to claw back his own.
And that's why I think it's narratively desirable for them to be part of Tomura's endgame (also to mirror Deku who would be fully an OFA/All Might creation if not for the friends and allies he made for himself and who all come to his aid in the end).
The League is also the place where the Tenko/Tomura faultlines can be reconciled into a whole. Tenko's desire to be heroic (to play with the outcasts) and Tomura's desire to stand with his allies/friends (the villains). So it boils down into a moment of wanting to be the Hero of the Villains. That's Tomura affirming himself right there. This is not AFO's path for him, but it's him reintegrating everything he has become, his truths and understanding of the world, his bonds that shaped him into that childhood dream. (It's like Shouto's "reassuring hero" moment).
And I think Tomura losing himself to the trauma, PTSD, etc. momentarily is ok too. He lost the rage that drove him forward (like Shouto in the final of the Sport Festival) and is untethered right now. He will need to find a positive emotion to become his drive to take him forward.
But his power will surface with the right trigger, just like Shouto showing up at the Stain fight wielding his newly liberated fire to help Deku was the real pay-off for their Sport Festival fight. (But only after Shouto digged deep inside himself and went to face his mother, face the existence he was given and the hurt it caused to his family with the actual reality.).
I think Tomura will also need a "deep dive" to compare his perception of the world to the current reality. Is society as passive and worthless as his perception of it? The heroes all fighting together, the civilians pitching in feels like there is a change compared to the passive hero society he remembers. But I think the real trigger should be / will be the LoV coming in. Because is it true that AFO made him choose them?
The LoV despite their bonds being real and deep couldn't save each other because they were all spiralling deep in their own traumas. But now Toga and Touya also had their own moments of reconnecting with their child self and having that child's original desire fulfilled (for Tenko - a hero came, for Touya - his family watched him, for Toga - someone accepted her as normal) but of course it's not a magic solution.
Because that moment would have saved the child they were, but not enough for their current selves. They will also have to make their own choices going forward. I think all of them can find the reason to face AFO now - Toga still wants to protect the things she likes, Touya maybe able to move beyond his father's reasons and look for his own, but not from a revenge perspective, Spinner is loyal, Compress I think will also come.
How, you ask? Well, Kurogiri is still black with bits of white. He still has in him the conditioning to protect Tomura, but also infused with Shirakumo's genuine care. I think just like Oboro helped the heroes to round up everyone, Kurogiri will round up Tomura's allies.
And once they are there, Tomura will rise up to them and will be the hero of the villains, joining forces with Deku and everyone to finally finish off AFO (and maybe save his friends). Because even with the little agency he had over his life, those choices were his alone, and he will be able to root his identity in that.

BNHA 352 - Thoughts
I’m in actual tears even though I’ve seen the leaks already. Shouto is the most soulful character of this manga and this chapter was an ode to everything I love about him:
his wisdom
his earnestness
his kindness
his endearing awkwardness
his appreciation of his friends
his constant soul-searching
his humility and gratitude
And it’s so satisfying to see him finally finding not only his own way, but his own drive. He knows who he wants to be and why and it gives him an incredible sense of serenity.
He shows so clearly in so many little and big ways how he’s the opposite of his father still (too many to count), but this time not out of pettiness, but for all the right reasons and the right way. He is not the perfect masterpiece - instead his imperfect and free-running, but also with a deep sense of his roots, accepting all of it - the good and bad and painful.
All of Shouto’s lines were so on point. Loved his little (and very overdue) talk with Izuku. “This is the one fight I cannot run away from”. (The one Endeavor ran away from again and again - is left unsaid).
Shouto doesn’t run away. He knows he has to do this, because it is who he is. He knows also that fighting Touya’s fire with fire can only end in tragedy, so he goes back to the drawing board to reinvent himself. He steps away from Endeavor’s way of thinking - he doesn’t turn up the power even more - he turns it down. HK is bringing it all together - Shouto’s power which is just a single power of temperature regulation after all (congrats to the Hero Entropy crowd!), something he can unleash from the core of his heart with infinite MP to show exactly who he is.
“Only I can find out the reason I was born in that house” - this line killed me. Then his smile, so full of gratitude, and a beautiful recall to Midoriya vs Todoroki killed me a second time (Mt Lady was right, this version of Shouto is lethal).
In stark contrast to Shouto’s hard-earned hopefulness stands Touya’s raging fatalism - echoing Stain’s ideology (Stain cameo next with Iida to the rescue?) and the logic of old hero society. Where Shouto sees himself in Touya, Touya still sees Shouto as his opposite as he launches his full-out attack of destruction, turning Kamino into an actual hellscape of bubbling ground and columns of lava to erase everything.
And it’s so beautiful how Shouto find his safe place where he can concentrate from in his friends, in Class A, that accepted him and made him feel belong. His safety net gives him the power to counter the toxicity of their home, the abuse that’s still powering Touya.
Shouto doesn’t make a big speech, he just lets his Ultimate Moves speak for him, which is not about outcompeting each other in destruction like the logic Endeavor created them in, but about putting out Endeavor’s flames of madness still burning in Touya, while embracing his brother, stopping his self-destruction and trying to open his eyes to a different way. To become the light that illuminates the darkness of Endeavor’s flames. Because Phosphorus means light-bearer.
Shouto finally finds his true power to make a stand for his family, for his brother, for the hope that it’s never too late to change the path on, for the friends and allies who gave him a safe place to stand on and reinvent himself as many times as it takes.
He creates this hauntingly beautiful, white empty space, where just for a frozen moment they can exist together in peace. Touya, who went to Sekoto peak to show his power only to feel abandoned and unseen. Shouto, who wanted to play with his brother only to be torn away. The fire that divided them is gone.
Shouto finds a way to calm Touya’s raging inner child, to show him how far he’ll go for him, how he won’t give up, how much he wants to soothe his pain, how much he is not Endeavor’s puppet, but someone who carved his own path. He backs up his words with his entire heart and actions.
Over to you, Touya.

Best moment in the chapter was Tenko subtly playing finger puppets to show that he’s still in there.
Other cool moments:
Hatsume unperturbed + Mirio tiny first aid panel.

I felt literally nothing when Deku went ham with 2nd’s quirk. Just like Fa Jin, it’s there to let him smash harder. Yay - I guess?
Technically he surpassed All Might, but because of the rushing & off-screening, it just doesn’t feel like anything.
Transmission I guess will get interesting either when Deku uses “reverse” (I assume that’s one of the gears) or if the 5-minute time limit is up.
I’m guessing Erasure will be taken out of the equation to tilt the balance again, either via Skeptic detaching the support part of the coffin or AFO showing up.
Anyways, it was interesting to see AFO in person towards the end with Yoichi - which further shows that they are not fully merged.
All Might I guess is still signing that card for Bakugou.

BNHA 365 Thoughts
Execution issues aside, I think this chapter shows that jumping onto rash, overly dramatic conclusions at the end of each (very short) chapter is counter-productive.
We can spend weeks arguing about Bakugou being a “jobber”, and then learn weeks later that his attack wasn’t reckless and stupid, but rather it did blaze that path he said he would.
Even if it came in a different moment than what he originally planned.
He rattled ShigAFO and the fused identities are starting to come apart at the seams.
The themes are also laid out. The Symbol of Victory is broken child, sacrificed for the sins and omissions of the past generation and there is no path to victory unless they heal and bring back that broken child who seems beyond hope. The pro-heroes have changed, because now their biggest ultimate moves are unleashed not to suppress the villain, but to save the child.
Of course, this triggers that beyond hope child in the trigger who asks the question why go so far for him, but not me? And it’s a valid question - I think Tomura / Tenko getting back more agency will unleash some of that rage. But it’s interesting that even though Tomura has been led to believe that all he was created for is destruction, right now the way his body adapts is creation.
Because even though his body can’t feel pain, the emotional pain of losing his family is still inside him and is searching for new pathways to manifest.
I think Shigaraki will witness once again the tenacity of the heroes - the will to save that is a strength in itself. And the heroes, once they saved Bakugou, must understand that there is no perfect victory unless every child is saved.

BNHA 367 - Thoughts
Just quickly, because I’m not invested enough in the current fight to do long meta.
1. Loved the color page (minus fucking Mineta - what a waste of space). Sad that TDBK are not on it, but then again, they are both missing, so they are off cutting chives.
2. It’s an ok chapter tbh - it ticked off one of my dreaded plot-points: rage!Deku. It did a decent job with Deku’s reaction - he lost his shit, because honestly him holding it together would have been unearned - we never saw him working on controlling his emotions. He spent a month running on fumes, running from his feelings - and I do appreciate him being an overwhelmed kid rather than some middle-aged zen guru. AFO’s mind-fuckery knocked off both Endeavor and All Might from their game and they are both experienced pro-heroes. So it makes sense Deku did too.
3. Mirio calming him down is also fine for me. He’s more experienced than Deku and he can add his own little contributions to victory with his spirit. I’m glad he got some of his dignity back after the butt-joke.
4. The narrative didn’t shy away from Deku’s guilt over this whole situation, which I think is a good thing. It was total BS that Toga could yank him (he dodged fucking bullets against Nagant with inhuman reflexes), but he also lingered on his own decision and those precious minutes cost a lot.
5. The “I’m calm now” - “Is Shigaraki in there” transition felt kind of jarring, but I guess Deku came with the intention to save Tomura, and he’s trying to pick up the thread here. Seeing a hero come for him and not seeing him as hopeless beyond repair may be what Tenko needs to be able to reach back. The no-justu seems pretty straight-forward, but something has to go wrong.
6. In any case, the lack of moral dilemma means that we are on track for Bakugou’s death to serve a different purpose than a Deku rage-boner / Deku development. That’s good news if you ask me.
7. I wonder if the pilots leaving UA undefended will have its consequence? UA siege could be back on the table.
8. Deku’s control your heart / heart-shaped Black Whip can be added to the quickly accumulating heart-motifs among the Class A crowd. OFA being a network of power that connects people’s hearts. I definitely feel like 2nd’s quirk will somehow be linked to this notion.

BNHA 353 - Thoughts
I got my wish for official Phophor colours, so this chapter is already great in my book. This title page is just so sharp. Love the cursed prince vibes, the head of icicles, the colors, the energy, even Shouto’s fierce expression.
Even if the chapter title is a bit puzzling - here are my thoughts.
The end of the fight is just absolutely devastating (Shouto’s face is just perfect)

- and it was a great contrast to how the hype rolled over the different battlefields. Last chapter, Shouto found reassurance from his friends as his mental safe place / now his win gives everyone a new push.
- Loved the Shouto & All Might Kamino parallels and All Might’s tearful “Todoroki kid” (now if only they had a post-war scene)
- It was great to see where everyone else was - nice to see Kiri & Mina & Mt Lady near Gigantomachia and the mysterious escort job. I also teared up at Kirishima’s “our very own Todoroki”.
- Satou, Sero and Ojirou over at the stadium. I think Sero is fine...
- Bakugou’s big proud smile, like he knew Shouto could do this was a really nice little TDBK crumb. (Though surprised at lack of Momo and Aizawa reactions)

- New Tartarus escapees on the scene. I guess Kunieda will be Aoyama’s fight, and I’m guessing Hagakure will be there to combo with him. But where/who is Gashly?
- Finally, Central Hospital is a battle I care about a lot, because I’ve wanted Shoji’s backstory since forever and Kurogiri/Shirakumo are there, and he can be a huge asset to either side, depending who gets to him.
- And back to the battlefield - Shouto’s tearful face, the Iida hug - it just pulls on my heartstrings so perfectly. That HUG!!!

- I went back and forth from regeneration to I-officially-have-no-clue what’s going on with Touya. My main theory (wish) that it’s something positive that’s been set off/ released because of this encounter, but AFO will fuck with Endeavor’s head, because that’s what AFO does. Nevertheless, I feel like Touya should get a narrative reward for refusing AFO twice - his quirk is a link to his family, his identity, his origin and I think keeping that intact means that Touya is not letting fully go of who he is.
In any case - the lack of a true resolution, no “Shouto rising” - it means more Shouto - Touya content to come and for me, that’s already good enough.

BNHA 354 - Thoughts
I quite liked this chapter overall. The AFO taunting Endeavor stuff didn’t hit as hard as I thought it would - maybe because I’ve expected it, and partially because we haven’t had Endeavor’s POV yet.
I enjoyed though having mostly Hawks voice and insight into his thought process on the planning (though it really sounds like there was no plan B, which is sort of underwhelming) and all of it was built on Endeavor, and while full well knowing his fragile state of mind.
Hawks believed he could keep Endeavor on task and really underestimated how hard this would be for him - so to watch his hero crumble and Hawks ready to throw himself in as sacrifice to keep Endeavor’s Prominence Burn as last resort - Hawks self-destructiveness is almost as bad as Touya’s and also centred on Endeavor.
Endeavor losing focus was predictable and a bit fast (I wish AFO told more of the story) and it’s a bit hard to see what happened - did he lose an arm? Probably not...
Tokoyami coming in on a clutch was expected - but still him telling Hawks that he’ll fight with him was a really emotional moment. It’s interesting how Tokoyami’s unquestioning devotion for Hawks in some ways mirrors Hawks and Endeavor’s relationship - yet, Hawks has been so blind to it.
Jirou was much less expected - but you go girl!
AFO was perhaps the biggest let-down. He still doesn’t feel menacing at all and I don’t see any smarts coming from him either. His comic references feel also kind of overused. I’d like a twist soon so he’d feel less incompetent and there is more tension to this battle.
I’m certain that Jirou and Tokoyami are fine though.
